A proud, pro-gun mom was accidentally shot by her 4-year-old son — just a day after the Second Amendment-loving woman boasted about her tot’s shooting skills.
The Florida boy found the loaded weapon in mom Jamie Gilt’s car Tuesday and shot her as they cruised down a Putnam County road, officials said. The 31-year-old mother survived the mid-drive attack and is in stable condition.
“Even my 4 year old gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22,” Gilt wrote on Facebook Monday during a fiery online debate about guns as a means of self-defense. The Jacksonville mom maintained she has the right to shoot anyone who threatens her and her family — and she's teaching her kids to do the same.
This was from the woman's Twitter account:
Not sure if that was the "toy" that put the hole in her body, but it is clear she does not respect the deadliness of firearms.Got to play with my new toy today! Time to clean it! pic.twitter.com/1lkYo8b3sh— jamie gilt (@jamiegilt) January 24, 2015
I would like to think that this woman will have learned her lesson, especially since both she and her child survived what could have been a fatal incident for one or both of them, but if this post from her Facebook page is any indication she might be one of those slow learner types.
(H/T to Crooks and Liars.)
Too bad the kid wasn't a better shot-if she is DRIVING and was shot, they could have injured/killed other people on the roads. This woman should have her permits revoked and never be allowed to purchase another weapon. Alas, she'll no doubt make sure that there is another loaded weapon in the car next time, so she can shoot back. How's 'protecting my child' going, hon? Evidently your 4 year old felt threatened by you...did you refuse to stop at McDonald's?
ReplyDeleteI hope they put this child in a safe environment. It is obvious that this idiotic woman has the sense of most gun huggers. These people do not understand child development. They think if they tell a four year old not to handle a gun when they aren't there---the kid will listen. Its their convoluted sense of authority that some get when guns permeate their world.
ReplyDeleteBut in the end, maybe the kid did listen to mom. She was there when he shot her. Poor baby.
I'm betting their gun safety instructor never stressed that the child is FOUR. His brain development will not be that of a responsible human being for the next fifteen years. But all Mama knows is that the kid went through the safety class with her, and has a blast shooting at the range with her. She is sick, and lucky she isn't dead, but has she learned anything? bet not. I'm waiting for the same sort of incident with a Palin child.
DeleteThis is how the mind of a four-year-old works: "Mommy gets all happy and excited when I shoot a gun ... I love mommy, I want to make her happy ... oh look, there's a gun! ..."
DeleteWas there a canoli in the back seat as well? And I am glad despite her stupidity of leaving a loaded gun where the four year old can reach it, that she will recover. I think of the kid who pulled a loaded gun out of his moms purse in a WalMart and killed her. What will he go thru later in life with that realization?
ReplyDeleteYour ignorance, lack of gun safety skills, lack of parenting skills and overall intelligence scares me more then your gun.
ReplyDeleteYou should lose your right to own a gun forever.
You have proven that you cannot be a responsible gun owner
The comments on her Twitter page are brutal.

Referring to a deadly weapon as "my new toy" is problem #1.
ReplyDeleteYou can't fix stupid is problem #2.
Karma at its most pure.
ReplyDeleteThis mother is definitely not a responsible gun owner. Leaving an unsecured gun accessible to a child is inexcusable. She was more than fortunate to have survived this incident. Hopefully, she will no longer think it's cute for a four year old to be brandishing around a lethal weapon.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding? The NRA will probably sign the kid up for all the commercials they will run this fall. He's a hero!
Delete''''My right to protect my child with my gun trumps your fear of my gun'''
ReplyDeleteIt looks like her child needs protecting from HER.
What kind of a careless, reckless idiot leaves a loaded gun on the back seat of a car next to a child?!
Reports say that the gun was on the floor in the back and that the child was not strapped into his car seat.
DeleteIn FL it is a misdemeanor to all a child near a gun.
Hope she faces charges of all sorts.
She should have no more access to her son or to any kind of firearm. She lacks good sense. Facebook page title is ironic.

Delete'''Reports say that the gun was on the floor in the back and that the child was not strapped into his car seat.'''
********************************
Sources say the gun WAS on the back seat of the car.
Let's just hope this incident will be her "wake-up-call" and she will re-think how and where she stores her "toys"...naaaaaaaaa
ReplyDeleteProbably wasn't in a child seat either. Those damn pesky American laws.....
ReplyDeleteA country who has states that will take kids away from a dad moving to Colorado so he can get cannabis for medical reasons, but won't take a kid away from this mother who lets him shoot guns at age 4 is not a place I would want to live.
ReplyDeleteIt is fortunate that the kid blasted mommy instead of an innocent person driving by in another vehicle. Mommy must be so proud that the kid targets family members instead of the general public. That NRA training paid off big time. Mommy could have gotten prison time for letting her kid shoot someone else.
ReplyDeleteI like how they call it an "attack, as if the 4-year old is a predator. Guns don't kill people, preschoolers with access to their parents' guns kill people.
ReplyDeleteKid needs to work on his aim. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI guess there wasn't a "good guy with a gun" to blast the 4 year old to oblivion.
ReplyDeleteI get solo angry by stories like this. What if the poor kid shot himself. I am almost sad that she survived. This woman should either lose her guns or her kids. She isn't responsible enough for both. I actually have a gun, my husband owned it before we met. But I don't have kids and if any kids come to my house I give it to my neighboor while they are there.
ReplyDelete6:05 -- My son-in-law's father is a hard-core gun nut (he owns 10, none secured) fanatical supporter of the NRA, etc., etc. My daughter and son-in-law won't bring his grandson to his house unless he gets the guns out while their family is there.
DeleteThis has caused a huge rift, because of course he sees himself as the "good guy with the gun", just protecting them all.
My daughter showed him this article. Guess what? It turns out it's just librul elitist propaganda.
??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She was using her "toy" as a dildo and now she needs to clean it up.
ReplyDeleteYour propensity for leaving loaded weapons around toddlers does not trump anyone's "fear of your guns".
ReplyDeleteWe don't fear your guns - we fear your lack of responsibility with deadly weapons.
What about my rights to protect myself from her and her kid? I don’t have a fear of her gun; I have a fear of her stupidity.
ReplyDeleteSomeone commented that gun owners should be required to carry insurance-good idea, after all who pays for the medical/funeral expenses due to these “accidents” if they had shot or killed an innocent third party?
I have no sympathy for this mother at all; 4 years old do not have the brain/reasoning skills to understand the danger of guns.
This MOTHER doesn't seem to have those skills, either!
DeleteToo bad she is still in the gene pool. Without her, the kid might have a chance at a normal life.
ReplyDeleteKids today.... sigh.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or does that kid's face look like a flesh-colored balloon?
This is just another angry case of angry rural people being angry about government over-reach and the failure of the failed Obama administration. Once Drumpf takes the reins, you'll see, everything will go back to that way it should be (and never was)... tremendous... great... winning... the best... the greatest... spleevish... glorgle... blikblik.... (insert Drumpfian gibberish here, ad nauseum)
This was so fucking funny, my husband and I laughed until we cried last night, especially after reading Jim Wright's take on this fucking moron gun humper.
ReplyDeleteBitch needs to get a clue, but morons like her never will. I hope next time her toddler takes her out for good...no more of her shit needs to enter into our human gene pool. And good job little fella, you just aimed a little too low, spend a little more time at that shooting range and you might hit it on target, next time :-)
The kid's got no eyes, ears, nose, or mouth and he hit his target!! A frickin' balloon for a head, Poor kid could have died if his mom died and lost control of the car, and that would be a shame.
ReplyDeleteAnyone wanna bet her next post will really go overboard with guns and how wonderful they are??? Can't fix stupid.
I shouldn't joke, this could have gone very badly, but who, in their right mind, puts their kid in the back seat with a gun within reach?
WTF? Her social media pic of the "toy" (um.weapon) is strange, like it was even taken with the gun on a seat of the car or something? She probably threw her toy in the back seat right after bragging about it online. Darwin at work - weeding out the gene pool (or trying).
ReplyDeleteI can understand a child thinking that this gun was a "toy", but not an adult. What a foolish, foolish, foolish woman.
ReplyDeletePerhaps her little boy was standing his ground.
ReplyDeleteWere there any twinkies involved?
Stupid hot bitch needs weenie
