Six injured by shotgun blast at Florida shooting range.

Courtesy of WKMG-TV:

A family of five and another teenager were hurt after an accidental shooting Saturday at an Ocala shooting range, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.

It happened at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Forest Road 88 Shooting Range on Northeast 31st Street.

Deputies said a 21-year-old man was loading an antique shotgun when it accidentally discharged into the concrete floor.

The shotgun pellets ricocheted and hit six people. Deputies said a family of five were hit -- two men and three children ages 8, 10 and 14.

A 15-year-old child who is not related to the family was also hit, deputies said.

Gee so many armed people there and not one of their guns kept these people safe?

The NRA keeps talking about guns as if they are magical talismans that keep people free from harm simply by having one on their person.

I guess not.

Gryphen, I know you will, but PLEASE KEEP POSTING pieces like this.
I'm recommending your blog to my kindreds and we're using it as another in the archive for this type of blatant gun safety issue.
We live in ammosexual GOP heaven. A friend cleaned house for a rich old fellow who had Loaded guns All Around The House. Just laying out, not in cases and some with the safety noticeably off! He was a paranoid elderly man who had poor eyesight and wouldnt wear his glasses. You think he was into gun safety too? This is just one of over a hundred little true stories I could tell.
I'm not against responsible gun ownership. My family hunted waterfowl and quail all my life and nobody ever had a hunting accident, going back generations. Gun safety was top priority, and I dont ever remember any of those country people I grew up around being so stupid as to load a shotgun aimed at anything concrete, wall or floor. When your gun is used for serious stuff, and not for fun or as a collectible, ya tend to not view it as a toy, but rather as something that kills.
Today, we live around plenty of hunters and our property abuts national forest. I don't have a gun yet, but I do have some serious bear spray, and I've practiced with the dummy canister that came with it, probably more than some shooters around here got with their guns. And I know to keep that can in my damn hand when hiking during certain times of the year, and not on my belt.
I got advice from experts(thanks Casey Black of Northern Lights Wolf Centre, huge shout out), and I never fool myself into thinkin i know it all or that i'm immortal.

There aren't words adequate enough to relay my disgust.

How do we just make it stop? If you're not safe in the safest place on earth, a gun range, where ARE you safe. And the word "Accident" doesn't apply.
