Ted Cruz's call for increased police patrols and surveillance in "Muslim neighborhoods" in response to the bombings in Brussels does not exactly go over well.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

The New York Police Department reacted angrily to a call from Senator Ted Cruz of Texas for law enforcement to “patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods.”

At a news conference on Tuesday, Commissioner William J. Bratton denounced the Republican presidential candidate as “out of line” and unfit for the White House.

“I would remind the senator he lives in the United States of America,” Mr. Bratton said. “And the statements he made today is why he’s not going to become president of this country.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio stood beside the commissioner and chimed in repeatedly with “Amen.”

President Obama was even more pointed in his remarks

“I just left a country that engages in that kind of neighborhood surveillance, which, by the way, the father of Sen. Cruz escaped for America, the land of the free,” Obama said during a press conference in Argentina, referring to his historic trip to Cuba earlier this week.

He said the proposal “makes absolutely no sense” and goes against basic American values.

What's next, Islamic internment camps? Or perhaps concentration camps are more Cruz's style?

And remember THIS is who the establishment Republicans are rallying around to be their standard bearer in the 2016 presidential election.

Can we even begin to imagine the number of interventionist wars this creepy little puke would start to prove HIS manhood?

There's a mosque near my apt. complex. Many Muslims live near me. How many Muslims per sq. mile constitute a sufficient quantity to qualify for extra surveillance? Ted Cruz never has to answer with specifics because he's a special snowflake.

How terrific. I am glad you live in such an interesting neighborhood. To me, that is America.

Ted Cruz is a moron. They keep telling us how smart he is but his words and actions show otherwise.

      @9:53 thank you.

In addition to the mosque, we have a (large) Hindu temple, 2 Catholic churches, a (really big) Mormon temple, a (big) Greek Orthodox church, a (very large) Christian Science school and assorted Christian churches -Baptist, Lutheran, ... all within 5 miles of me.

You are so right, Ted. Some are even predicting that the Democrats might really have a chance at taking the House (!) but for sure, we will take back the Senate! And the same is true if Trump is their candidate, too.

Since it isn't stated, I think I will say it: We can get back the Senate and MAYBE the House with all the crap the GOP is pulling, BUT ONLY IF WE DON'T GET OVERCONFIDENT AND actually VOTE!

PLEASE people. Regardless of how much of "a sure thing" it looks like - VOTE!

I do find it absurd when people obsess over looks and resemblances. Tripp has always looked like Todd to me, eyes, dimples, face shape. His hair is darkening at the same rate Track's did. His hair is shiny blonde like Heath's. Saying Trig is Levi's because you think they look alike, because they have non-blue eyes, is saying Levi is Todd's son because they share similar characteristics, save eye color. And Levi is a smidge shorter (though they could be the same height.) He's not taller though.

What I'm not a fan of is this weird story over $100000 split between 3 lawyers. 3?? Is Tank considered a lawyer? Is the money those two jerks took via contract being factored in? Because I work in legal and nothing about that relatively short case, that did't involve a trial, amounts to $100000. Rex did nothing legally. Maybe $2000 worth based on average hourly rate. So unless lawyer #2 is greedy as fuck, that $10000 number is a lie. Just saying. There wasn't a long COURT battle. That process was short compared to the average nonstop cases that go on 3 full years and often longer and include actual trials because agreements cannot be found.

      ---------------------
It is easy to run up big legal bills without ever setting foot in a courtroom. Every single phone call, email, letter, consultation, etc. over the past seven years was billed to Levi by whatever lawyer he had at the time.

A two minute phone call will be billed at whatever minimum hourly fraction the attorney has set. It adds up quickly.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
This was first written by Franklin for the Pennsylvania Assembly in its Reply to the Governor (11 Nov. 1755)
This quote was used as a motto on the title page of An Historical Review of the Constitution and Government of Pennsylvania (1759); the book was published by Franklin; its author was Richard Jackson, but Franklin did claim responsibility for some small excerpts that were used in it.
An earlier variant by Franklin in Poor Richard's Almanack (1738): "Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor Liberty to purchase power."
Many paraphrased derivatives of this have often become attributed to Franklin:
They that can give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither.
He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security.
He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.
People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both.
If we restrict liberty to attain security we will lose them both.
Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.
He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither.
Those who would trade in their freedom for their protection deserve neither.
Those who give up their liberty for more security neither deserve liberty nor security.

ISIS success in recruiting Brussels nationals has been largely attributed to neighborhood segregation and discrimination against Muslims. So, naturally, Cruz/Trump/the GOP propose discrimination and hate for Muslims in the USA. How else can they ensure the growth of ISIS and fear among their base.

There was a lot of bad news for Congressional Republicans in the Quinnipiac University poll released on Thursday. Not only does President Obama have his highest approval ratings in 3 years, but by a margin of 2-1, Americans say the Senate should vote on Obama’s Supreme Court pick. Yikes.

    But wait. It gets worse.

    1. And even when he meets with Muslims, he doesn't listen.

"The hysteria caused by claiming there is a group of people too dangerous and too widespread among the populace to control has had historically horrifying consequences. Senator Cruz’s statements are not just dangerous in that they seek to ostracize Muslims or alienate them among their neighbors; the real danger is that they also contribute to the hysteria and vigilantism that bring about real attacks on Americans of all faiths.

"The real danger in Cruz’s statements is not just that he says them, but that he may not even believe them. He may be just craven enough in his desire to become the Republican nominee that he’ll sideline the liberties he’s sworn to protect to get the position he thinks he deserves."

I am not worried about Cruz. He won't make it. I am afraid that trump will be the new Hitler. And, Muslims will be the first of many targeted minorities, not to exclude Jews. Americans are being terrorized by their so called politicians. Too bad we can't find another person like Obama. He isn't a perfect president but he's holding his ground. The thought of looking at Trump's and Cruz's ugly mugs for four years as they get away with shit is almost to unbearable to consider. Here's hoping that Hillary manages this feat of becoming our next president. But I also think a lot of the opposition to her is coming from the Republican men who hate Obama's color, and would absolutely hate a woman in the house. Any woman.

The Complicit Media Helps Trump Terrify Children

...Trump's enabler and CNN host, Wolf 'We'll-have-to-leave-it-there" Blitzer really helps Trump crank up the fear-mongering after Tuesday's attacks. A few excerpts from the interview illustrate the free pass this man gets without a single follow-up question to clarify his wildly inaccurate ravings.

It's fully acceptable to violate the Geneva Code and resume torture. Why? Because Trump says so, that's why! Notice his technique of repetition. I will highlight the key word in a few of his responses.
