The Secret Service says no guns at the Republican convention, breaking ammosexual hearts everywhere.

Courtesy of The Hill:

The Secret Service says people attending the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this July will not be allowed to carry guns.

The statement comes in response to a petition that calls for allowing open carry of guns inside Quicken Loans Arena, the host venue.

The petition has amassed more than 43,000 signatures as of Monday morning.

Secret Service spokesman Robert Hoback said in a statement that “only authorized law enforcement personnel” working with the agency will be allowed to carry firearms inside protected areas.

“Individuals determined to be carrying firearms will not be allowed past a predetermined outer perimeter checkpoint, regardless of whether they possess a ticket to the event,” Hoback wrote in an email.

The Secret Service cited federal law that allows the agency to prevent firearms from being carried into venues with protectees present, even in open-carry states.

Well so much for any hopes of a shoot out at the GOP Corral.

I guess we will simply have to be entertained with the fistfights, hair pulling, and eye gouging.

Well there is STILL outside for the Trump riot with guns.... Donald Trump wants a riot so there WILL be a riot.
Democrats, for your safety please stay indoors during the RNC convention week. You can still watch the melee on tv as I am sure the networks and the cable channels will cover it.

As a confirmed ammophobe, I wouldn't want to be within 100 miles of Cleveland (a lovely city, BTW) during the convention. I suspect that crazy ammosexuals will get out of hand at hotels, restaurants, etc where they can legally carry and it won't surprise me to hear of someone being shot during the lead up to or during the convention dates.

I should be as safe as I normally am on any given day here at my home in Texas! Ironic, isn't it? LOL.

I work within 3 blocks of both the convention center and Quicken Loans Arena. We are a public entity. I fully expect something to go down during this week. Unfortunately, there is no way I will be able to get any vacation time- I am low man on the totem pole in my department, and the allotted number of people have already requested the time off. I am actually frightened of what might happen during that week.

I wonder how many names on that petition weren't Republicans.

I've been wondering if the petition was actually started by a group of Democrats!

Not to worry, they just announced that the Texas Republican convention WILL allow concealed & open carry guns. Popcorn at the ready. Will the SS step in at that convention too? If so, it's a damn shame.

How convenient for them to blame the Secret Service without appearing like the cowards that they are. Guns are OK for schools when it's someone else's kids getting shot, but they're not OK when their own miserable carcasses could be in danger.

That is so wrong!! How dare the Gummint declare itself in charge of only Republican guns. How wrong is this!!!! Why aren't guns banned from Democratic gatherings? Preferential treatment by the socialists I say, wrong, wrong, wrong!!! Wrong for America. [this could go on for awhile so I'll stop now ; - ]

As a Liberal in a rf nest of conservatives, in our group I acknowledge my support for Trump citing his liberal planks. Last night's debate was great--security, healthcare, and households were his objectives as president. First, I am congratulated for becoming a conservative. Then, I explain why I did not change, conservatism evolved, using Trump verbiage. It is interesting to watch confirmed conservatives squirm at his clear illusion of conservative approach. I even disavow Hillary and her husband as DINOs because of their hawkishness.
I am voting for the dowdy old lady who used her brain instead of disappearing once she was no longer fertile and or attractive. She represents me in a work culture that values youth and appearance, which could only get worse should trump become elected. Btw, why is trump not stopped from harassing Fields on tv?

It's because conservative principles only work in 'theory' - not in practice.

Allowing personal weapons in a venue of that size is an open invitation for trouble. There's always going to be an unhinged or angry crazy who meets up with a John Wayne-type. Innocent people would get hurt or killed.

Many young girls and also women protesters are outside the places where Trump is
speaking. Yesterday one girl was groped
and pepper sprayed while standing in a
protesting crowd, by one of Trump's fans.
Every female protesting should have a
taser in her hand ready. Smaller tasers
for females are available . Females in
everyday life carry them for protection.
I don't know what legal trouble she could
get into. I call it self defense!

Well, if that new 'Smart Phone gun' comes out before then, the Secret Service will have their hands full for sure!

I read a lot of internet news, so can't recall where this was posted. A story earlier today states the secret service traced this petition back to a Clinton supporter who started it wanting to make a point about gun control apparently.

Leave it to the Secret Service to take all the fun out of the convention.

I was looking forward to those cowards ducking under chairs/tables when the the bad guy shows up and desperately fleeing with their guns.

The GOP needs to sue the Secret Service for taking away their 2nd amendment rights.

After all if it good enough for schools and churches, it is good enough for the convention.
