Explaining "Bernie-math."

My favorite line:

"Then you add ten momentum points for every state he won in a row, multiply that by how much birds like him."

I totally feel that first guy's pain. I have been trying to explain this same thing for weeks right here on IM. All I've manged to do so far is piss a whole lot of people off.

How many times did libs defend Europe and socialism when they thought Obama was a socialist? Hoe many times did libs say all of Bernies goals should be instituted prior to Bernie running?

Democrats literally do not know what they believe but they will defend anyone despite not knowing them. And they'll attack anyone they see as a threat despite not knowing them.

We need a huge party overhaul. Both suck. All politicians in DC suck.

  3. As a democrat, I realize that our candidates tend to have issues with math. Hell, Hilary sucked at it in 2008 and Bernie seems to have caught the same kind of arithmetic disfunction in 2016.

Hillary was a lot better at math than Bernie is now. She was also a lot closer to BO at this point in the primary.

    2. Anonymous12:00 PM

Bernie's math consists of a single number. That number is 1. Bernie is not now, nor is he planning to help get Democrats elected to national and state office. Bernie can bleat all he wants about revolution, but as long as he is fixated on just his election, he can never actually produce a revolution. President Obama has accomplished much in spite of a belligerent congress, but he has enormous skill in out thinking his opponents. Bernie has only one method for getting things done, that is to whine, whine, whine. Well, it won't work. Bernie needs a congress that will actually enact legislation. And Bernie shows ZERO sign of realizing that.

Bernie's math is one (with zero on top of that).

How can an election go the way the polls predicted it would and have it still be the result of chicanery? I'd believe the charges ... if there were any evidence to prove Sanders would have won New York, for example, but there was never any aggregate of all polling taken that did not have Clinton with a huge lead. Were the polls all rigged too? Was fivethirtyeight.com in collusion with them to support Hillary? What rubbish!

Bet we'll see the same tonight - Hillary will win most if not all primaries, by the exact or nearly exact margin 538.com predicted based on polling data, and Sanders supporters will still try to say the results were rigged.

What is annoying is insisting over and over since February that it's impossible for Sanders to win because the Math says so. The Math doesn't say it's impossible for Sanders to win even now. Clinton has to have won 2,026 pledged delegates for it to be impossible for Sanders to win. Math says Clinton can't get to 2,026 pledged delegates before the June 7 primaries even if she won every delegate in every primary between now and June 7. If it were really over, Hillary would save her money and her health and stop campaigning. But she hasn't and she won't because she knows she doesn't have it in the bag yet no matter what her minions insist about the Math.

You're an idiot. She can't stop campaigning. She'll be campaigning every day until November. One difference 4is that she is not shirking her paid for by the citizens job to do so, unlike Kasich, Cruz and Sanders.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous10:19 AM

And her health? There's nothing wrong with her health.

Plus, maybe this is your first election, but there's no stopping a campaign when you know you're going to be running in the general. She's already campaigning against Trump and/or Cruz while continuing to gather votes for the remaining primaries.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous10:23 AM

No, you're right. It's not impossible for Sanders to win. If all the polls and data up to this point are completely wrong, he could totally get the nomination.

Or, if most if not all the superdelegates abandon the candidate who has, by far, the most votes and who has unceasingly supported state and local democrats, Sanders could totally pull it out at the convention.

Dreams are a good thing. Hold on to yours.

It has nothing to do with polls, data, superdelegates or dreams. It's pure pledged delegate Math: Until Clinton has won 2,026 pledged delegates,it's not impossible for Sanders to win. Math says Clinton can't win enough delegates to get to 2,026 pledged delegates before June 7.

On Clinton's health: She's not a healthy woman. She's obese. She's gotten so fat she waddles. She's admittedly hypothyroid. She's had a chronic cough since February.

Hillary's health is just fine. BTW most people over 50 have thyroid issues they just don't know it. Thyroid issues are easily controlled by simple meds. Hillary's Dr says her health is just fine, but it seems Bernie hasn't released any documentation about his health why is that? Is he trying to cover up his obvious dementia?

11:25 - What a misogynist! You are living in BERNIE WORLD. President Obama used super delegates to win; Hillary will do so as well. There is no way for Bern Bern to win. Maybe after tonight you'll finally get it.

Do you love the Sanders? If so, I urge you to take those exact same "Health" concerns listed above to the Sanders' campaign on behalf of Jane Sanders. She needs to lose weight for the sake of her health, and Bernie gets very red-faced on TV. Bernie coughs, too. (Honestly, he needs a good long rest. Maybe he and Jane can go to an academic conference in Fiji in June.)

      Delete
    8. Anonymous1:07 PM

Pointing out someone's obvious health problems isn't misogyny. I'm a woman. Hillary IS obese. She had a serious concussion and blood clot. Huma Abedin says she gets confused. She's hypothyroid. Even SNL makes fun of her cough. She makes fewer appearances and gives shorter speeches. Sanders' regularly gives 3 speeches a day lasting 75 minutes and gives several interviews. Sanders does not get "red in the face" and Jane isn't a candidate although she's overweight too. But not as fat as Clinton. BTW, Sanders has released a letter from his doctor, just like Clinton.

Yes, it's your blog, so you get to write what you want. Bernie is far from a perfect candidate, but for some of us >50 years old, he is a reminder of a time when America was progressive. Now, that concept is so foreign we call it "socialism". Hillary is the best choice, but she'll have to prove herself. My biggest fear is that she is such a hawk, and will want to prove that a woman can be "commander-in-chief", that she'll get us into one or more ground wars. So, keep cheering for Hillary; it is your blog. You do, though, seem to be missing the point of Bernie. It's not about Bernie. It's about an America that many of us hope to see again that only Bernie talks about. Hillary shows little interest in bringing us back toward a more progressive, and compassionate, center. So, my plea to you would be to understand why people support Bernie and get your Hillary supporters to consider pushing your candidate a little more to the left. Now, as is your and everyone elses right, go ahead and flame me for not supporting you and Hillary 100%.

10:15 - I don't flame you at all, but I would like to point out that Hillary has moved Sanders to the left on major issues as well, such as: gun control and women's rights, including reproductive rights.

It was eye-opening to me to read Bernie's old rape fantasy essay from 1972. Thank goodness he says now that it was stupid; I think running against a woman probably had something to do with that, since he had never disavowed it before in 40+ years.

I agree with you. I remember all those progressive Dems from the 60s and 70s. When I first registered to vote (1968) it was to primary for a real progressive in CT- who didn't make it, as was the case with most of those I supported who were just too progressive for the rest of the country.

The thing about Hillary is that whatever goals she has (like gun control and equal pay for equal work) she's more likely to achieve (if anyone can with a Republican Congress) because she can play the system. Can you imagine 4 years of Bernie berating the Congress (and everyone else)?

I wheeled my 95 year old mom into her local polling place this morning to cast a vote for Hillary- so excited to be voting for a woman!

I thank you for this post. This is exactly what so many are missing about how important Bernie's campaign has been. It has awakened the millennials in a way that has been profound. And it has given the progressive agenda the biggest boost in decades. I'm not a Bernie supporter, nor am I a Hillary supporter, per se. I will vote for whichever candidate stops the GOP from getting anywhere near the White House. But that doesn't stop me from seeing the huge value that Bernie has brought to the conversation and I find it incredulous that liberals/progressives aren't seeing this. This election seems the only narrow focus, not the bigger more visionary picture of what has been awakened in these young citizens who will be living their lives as the future of this country.

In 2010, so many Democrats were so disappointed with President Obama for not achieving all the miracles they expected of him that (please forgive me for reminding you of this) Republican candidates won big. At the state level. In a census year. Redistricting, as I trust you are aware, is generally a partisan operation conducted at the state level. The resultant gerrymandering can be expected to be with us at least until after the 2020 census.

Until then, any Democratic president will be working to achieve things in the face of a significantly hostile Congress.

I hope that the America you speak of will be restored in Bernie's (and my!) lifetime, but I see him—accurately or otherwise—more as "pointing the way" rather than as "drawing a map".

Perhaps if he had got himself elected in 2008, before the redistricting. …

Jane Sanders is not running for office which is good because of the stink of fraud and corruption around her time as pres of Burlington College.
