Samantha Bee tries to "Feel the Bern." But fails.

Courtesy of Vox:

"I'm not here to bash Bernie," Bee said. "I'm just here to understand your optimism, and stick my fingers in it, and just roll it around in my hands, and restore myself to the person I used to be."

But try as she might, Bee just couldn't get it. She kept asking them about the political process and Sanders's chances of sustaining a movement to change America, and they repeatedly came back with the same determined enthusiasm for their presidential candidate. Why couldn't President Barack Obama deliver on some of his campaign promises? "He faced tremendous opposition and a lot of prejudice."

So how will Sanders be different? "It takes a movement to get this stuff done." "The difference is that the people will rise and stay awake after Bernie is elected." "If he has problems with Congress, I think he would call on support. … 'Let's have a big protest.'"

Bee wasn't buying it. "So are you literally saying to me right now that the difference between Obama and Bernie Sanders is that the people of America are going to continue to be motivated within the political process, and they're going to keep putting pressure on our elected leaders to make change?" she asked. "Have you met people?"

I think Samantha Bee did in this segment exactly what I have been trying to do for weeks now, and she did it much better and with humor.

Yes the obvious question to ask is if President Obama, with all of his charisma and energetic support from the voters of this country, could not push through all of his agenda in the face of entrenched GOP opposition, what makes anybody think that a 74 year old Democratic Socialist will be any more successful?

Love the way they lie about Hillary Clinton when Mrs Sanders the tax accountant is very carefully hiding her work of the past few years.

You don't hide all your tax returns without having a lot to hide. Just ask Mitt Romney.

If you think you know Bernie Sanders you are wrong. Just wait.

For Bernie and his wife - it's all a pipe dream! He's clueless and it's surprising due to his having been in Congress for so long. But, then he never did anything of significance while there - so, that should tell us something about his lack of capabilities.

Hillary Clinton has my vote of confidence and support!

He's like the high school kid who has skated through school up until he goes to college. Then the shit hits the fan when he discovers he has never learned how to study, work, or even learn. The past has been so easy for him and now he is shitting bricks.
If Bernie makes it into the WH, he will fail miserably. He will not do one thing he promised, his cult followers will stay home in protest in 2018 and 202, we will lose the house and senate in 2018 and the WH in 2020 because his cult will treat him the same way the firebaggers treated president Obama i 2010 and 2014.

Bernie Sanders answer to your 'obvious question' is that, once elected, Pres. Obama told his supporters 'bye-bye,' he didn't need them any more, and that he'd do it on his own.

Seriously. Sanders said this right after he announced his candidacy. Sanders based his candidacy and revolution on delusion and not paying attention.

In Sanders' own words during interview with Chris Hayes:

“Biggest political mistake that he made is after his brilliant campaign in 2008, he basically said to the millions of people who supported him, ‘Thanks for getting me elected, I will take it from here.’ I will not make that mistake.”

President Obama would not have the heartfelt support that he has had he "ignored" the American people, all of us, since his first inauguration. Bernie Sanders was in the Senate; was he asleep or did he not recognize the GOP's massive obstruction that began on January 21, 2009, and continues today.

    3. I remember when Sanders said that, and thought it was either inexcusably ignorant or willfully malicious. Neither are things I want to see in a presidential candidate.

If Sanders actually get the nomination, you can expect a lot of articles like the following detailing how Bernie was kicked out of a commune in 1971.

I, for one, am really, sincerely tired of the Bernie and Hillary bashing and the bashing of their respective supporters. It does us zero good to keep name calling and insulting.

Support your preferred candidate and vote in the primaries/caucuses as you see fit; that is fine. Do your best to engage and influence people without all of the vitriol. But stop right now with the damn insults, and pledge to support the party in the general when the time comes.

Unless you really want President Trump or President Cruz.

If only millions of other voters had that kind of clear thinking and brave attitude we might have a better elections and candidates right now as the corrupt to the core two party system might have finally been busted up.

    CAN YOU SAY COMRADE BERNIE?
Okay, Bernie was mayor of a small town Burlington, Vermont but it is ironic Comrade Bernie worked on getting Sister Cities with a city from Russia and Cuba

Also it is ironic Bernie went to Russia a day after getting married and the City of Burlington paid for it.

By the way who paid for Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders's chartered 767 jet trip to Rome carrying family members and grandkids.

My, it is a coincidence Bernie and family travels to other countries on Other People's Money!

    POLITIFACT:
George Will describes Bernie Sanders' Soviet Union honeymoon

For most couples, the ideal honeymoon getaway might entail a week of unwinding at a beach resort or a stay in a secluded mountainside cabin.

Not Bernie Sanders. He chose a colder route. Sanders and his wife, Jane Sanders, spent their first days as newlyweds in the Soviet Union, claims George Will in a recent Washington Post column.

... Sanders also actively pursued his agenda outside of the country, writing letters to world leaders and even traveling to Cuba to meet with the mayor of Havana.

.... The timing of the trip was unusual. Bernie and Jane were married May 28, 1988. The delegation left Burlington the next day.

    Our ruling

Will wrote that Sanders chose "to spend his honeymoon in the Soviet Union in 1988."

Sanders and his wife did travel to Yaroslavl, a city in the Soviet Union, after their wedding in 1988. In the sense that the trip came after the couple were married, the trip was a honeymoon. The two have also referred to the trip that way, albeit sarcastically at times.

But it was an unusual honeymoon, to say the least. The trip’s primary purpose was diplomacy, not leisure, and included about 10 extra guests.

Will’s claim is accurate but is missing context about the trip’s underlying purpose. We rate his claim Mostly True.

Once again, we'll have to agree to disagree. As a Bernie girl, I wasn't offended at all by Samantha Bee's bit. Event though I thought it was hilarious, at times, it mirrored what has been happening on IM over the past few weeks.

I'm just going to put it out there Uncle Gryph. I disagree with and am equally entertained by your forced attempts of a blanket coronation of Clinton 2.0. I would prefer a much more enjoyable celebration of two viable candidates on the Democratic ticket without feeling like someone is going to slash my tires. I am enjoying watching Bernie run -- same as I did with Obama -- especially since Bernie wouldn't be on the Dem ticket if the DNC and Clinton didn't agree to allow him on there in the first place.

Hell, even Bee's joke about seeing rainbows and unicorns implied that the issues Sanders and his supporters are vocalizing were childish and could never happen in our lifetime. When realistically, the wants of Sanders supporters are already in practice everywhere else across the globe. So, the reverse age-discrimination and determination to paint us as tea-partiers is ridiculous, insulting and infuriating.

To me, Bee used this video to demonstrate how Clinton supporters should slow down and take a moment to question their own deep-seeded determination to squelch the spirit of Sanders supporters. She brilliantly showed how Clinton supporters make constant mistakes by:
    1) Assuming the issues that are important to her are not as equally important to Sanders supporters.
    2) Jumping to conclusions about the Sanders supporters without giving them the courtesy of a decent dialogue about the issues that are important to her
    3) Using her own fears to rationalize that Clinton's way is the only way to address the millions of issues we are all facing as a nation
    4) Deciding it best to continue dismissing the enthusiasm of Sanders supporters and the issues that are important to them.

If anything, this video inspired me even more. Seeing soooo many different walks of life come together politically -- to carry on the enthusiasm from Obama's campaign -- was reaffirming.

So please, vote for Clinton if she best represents who you are and what you believe to be true at this time. The Bern Is Real for me and I am hopeful that the long-game of change that Obama put in place will carry on through a Sanders presidency.

Seems to me the last three things Hillary was put in charge of were an epic fail. Hmmm. Let's see. First there was her *cough* marriage that "wasn't no Tammy Wynette stand by your man", then there was Health Care when Billo was Pres. That was strike two. Then there was of course her disastrous attempt at Sec. of State that has led to 100's of investigations and TWELVE full time FBI agents investigating her. She's been a total failure at everything so it's no wonder NONE of her supporters can seem to come up with even one thing she stands for. C'mon Gryph. One thing she stands for? One position she has taken. We're all tired of hearing that she's the most electable or she's the most experienced. That's all bullshit. WTF does she stand for other than Wall Street and War?

      Delete
    4. Anonymous5:12 AM

She's pro-choice, supports moderate gun control, has a comprehensive banking reform plan (which is more detailed than Bernie's because yes, she actually knows how Wall Street works), and has a more reasonablem, nuanced stance on education reform than Bernie's magical/impossible "make college free because it will rain leprechaun gold!"
Also, and more importantly, I can name at least five down-ballot issues in my home state that she has specifically discussed and stumped for. Bernie doesn't do shit for local candidates.

Your comment is bullshit. Hillary supporters are, by and large, much more engaged in the ACTUAL POLITICAL PROCESS than Bernie supporters, who just sit around talking unicorns and rainbows and not helping down-ballot candidates or getting a single thing done except serving their own interests.

Lastly, I would suggest you be extremely careful with the rhetoric and lies you use to criticize Hillary and her supporters.
