The Bernie Sanders video that is making folks on the internet furious.

Courtesy of the Inquisitr:

As reported by the Blue Nation Review, Bernie was celebrating a great election night, but in the moment that Sanders was expressing his joy, video caught Sanders acknowledging Jane — on Bernie’s all-important right-hand side — but at the same time making a motion to wave Jane away when she stepped forward.

Bernie can be heard either telling Jane not to stand there or “don’t stand next to me,” with an arm movement that pushed Jane back gently, as if to instruct her that he didn’t want her standing there the whole time. It may have been an innocent instruction towards his wishes at the moment — but it’s not being received well online.

With Bernie’s wife, Jane, being held up as a woman who has long supported her husband, to see Bernie wave Jane away or tell his wife not to stand there is being interpreted as Bernie not wanting to share the spotlight with his “help mate” or right-hand woman. As expected, such a gesture is making people online react with fury.

This is the kind of thing that often really gets overblown in the political season.

I don't necessarily think that Sanders looks like a "dick" for asking his wife to step back, however I will admit that with perhaps the most famous woman in the world as his opponent that ANY signs of misogyny on his part will be used against him moving forward.

P.S. By the way the person who posted this video also included a link to another video of Sanders appearing on Real Time and waving his hand in Abby Huntsman's face and acting dismissively toward her as more proof of his negative attitude toward women.

The audio was too muffled for me to clearly hear what he said. If the video had played on to show where his wife stood/sat after that, it would have helped.

Bernie always talked with his hands wildly flailing. In the Real Time segment, he wasn't in Huntsman's face but responding to the goon on the end. She moved his hands, and he did say "sorry."

9:05 I was going to point out that he waves his hands all the time so of course there are going to be times when it appears he's waving someone away. I still love Bernie and hope he will be our next President. This seems to be a realllllly long reach. At least Bernie isn't bought and paid for. I'll vote for H if she wins but I'll be holding my nose doing so.

    4. When I sent some money to Bernie right after he declared his candidacy, I added this note: Please, Bernie, your hands are chopping the air too much, when you speak -- think about them, they aren't doing you any favors -- they are hypnotic and take away from your talking points!

Did he listen? No, he didn't.

Still, their flailing around doesn't make me not want to vote for him. And if he doesn't get the nomination, I will -- OF COURSE! -- vote for Hillary. Nobody's perfect.

In no wave was that dismissive to her or the other woman.

100% blue, dialogue is GOOD. Those who truly are 100% blue will come together in the end no matter who our nominee is. In the meantime I for one enjoy the discussion which also helps those of us who are undecided. Gryph's opinion is only one of millions and just because he says whatever he says on his blog doesn't make it necessarily an agenda. He's as entitled to his opinion as much as anyone else alive. I believe most people who come here are adult enough to make up their own minds and aren't going to vote for a someone based solely on one person's blog.

      Anonymous9:42 AM,

You have no problem saying/insinuating that Hillary is "bought and paid for" based on right wing talking points, which implies illegalities and corruption" with absolutely NO evidence. But for Bernie you want people to be "fair" and not talk about his negatives? Nothing like the old double standard.

If Hillary had waved Bill away and told him not to stand there, You couldn't shut the Bernie supporters up.

That other link to him on Bill Maher's show us even worse. First, he sits with the arm-equivalent of "man spreading" and then waves his hand right in front of her face throughout the whole bit. He has absolutely no recognition of personal space. With his big hand waving around right in front if her face, I would have leaned over and bit it!

What he said was "Don't stand there". He was protecting her from an unsafe condition around the lectern. The lectern was set up on a corner of the stage with amplifiers place about 1 foot to the right and left of the lectern, then a 3 foot drop off to the floor. I don't know how to attach pictures, but you can see the arrangement and the unsafe condition in pictures from the front and the back at this link: http://www.tmj4.com/news/thousands-rally-behind-bernie-sanders-in-madison
Look at the pictures, then look at the video again. She looks down and realizes what he means then steps back. I cannot stand the baseless smear merchanting from both sides. This happened over a week ago and it hasn't taken off because 8000 people plus the media saw the unsafe stage set-up.

I completely agree, and she and the other woman are trying to decide what will be the best move to make. Bernie needs to keep on talking and the women figure it out. If he insulted her, the clip wouldn't end there bit would continue on and let us see a very unhappy and humiliated wife, but of course the clip ends right where the person who posted it wants it to.

As for the Real Time segment, that table is shaped like a triangle and the camera angles are so weird, so it continually looks like Bernie is moving his arm in front of the HuffPo person even when his hand is actually moving straight in front of himself and not off to the side, which people can see when the camera pulls back enough from the table. And his height when seated accounts for where his hand is in the air. The rest is Bernie just being Bernie and it has nothing to do with the fact that there's a woman next to him.

"we rate his claim Mostly False."
(YES BERNIE THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT YOU)

    POLITIFACT:
One proposal boosting Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders’ support among college-aged voters is his promise of free tuition at public colleges and universities.

In an interview with Sanders, CNN’s Erin Burnett asked about some of the issues Sanders’ critics bring up about the proposal, like the large cost of such a program and persuading states to get on board.

But Sanders said he has a way to pay for it: Wall Street....

Sanders’ assertion that the Wall Street speculation tax pays for his college tuition plan is only part of the story. Two-thirds, to be exact...

    Our ruling

Sanders said his free public university tuition program "is paid for… by a tax on Wall Street's speculation."

Sanders’ $75 billion proposal is a federal matching program, meaning the Wall Street speculation tax would cover two-thirds of the costs. States would be required to pick up the tab for the remaining one-third. There is some question if some states would participate in the program. Recently, states have refused to be part of Medicaid expansion under a more generous style of cost-sharing.

Sanders has a point that his proposed Wall Street tax would cover part of the plan, but he left out the significant state contribution. And it’s not a sure thing that every state would join in. So we rate his claim Mostly False.

Wall Street financiers and hedge fund managers are running ads against Clinton. But to say she’s the only one being attacked by people associated with the financial sector is preposterous.

The financial sector has contributed to both sides of the aisles, including to Clinton’s own campaign. Groups backed by Wall Street have run attack ads against virtually every candidate.

Bill Maher's got a triangular desk there with three people crammed together on one side and he's alone on another. The shape makes it so that it is hard not to be in people's faces if you're one of the three people on the end talking. Every now and then the camera goes onto Maher in such a way that it looks as if the desk must be square. Same with some shots of Bernie. But the fact is that the triangle means it converges and Bernie is stuck near that point of convergence and it is a very awkward setup and that's magnified on TV.

What I would like to discuss about Bernie is the fact he didn't work for 17 yrs after college, had a child he did not even attempt to co-parent with his time. So did he not pay child support? Was his girlfriend on welfare and was his child supported by the tax payers? Is this why Bernie thinks women's health issues are so unimportant to him? Because he apparently thinks it's the woman's fault and responsibility?

      Bernie Sanders Has a Secret

Vermont, his son and the hungry early years that made him the surging socialist he is today.
      http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/07/bernie-sanders-vermont-119927

Sanders only biological child, Levi Noah Sanders, the illegitimate child of his then girlfriend Susan Mott Glaeser. He is pictured here with Obama, at the time a state senator.

"Sanders has never discussed his first marriage nor the fact that his only natural-born child was with a second woman.

But Daily Mail Online has pieced together the fragments of his life as a revolutionary living in his adopted state of Vermont.

And they reveal that he was married to one woman, yet had his son Levi with a second - long before he went on to marry his current wife.

The Sanders campaign did not respond to Daily Mail Online's queries about why the veteran senator has kept details of his early life so quiet nor how he expected them to remain secret during his run for the nation's highest office.

I actually do. He seems very dismissive of women's healthcare needs and reproductive rights by stating those are not important issues. And then he never supported the child/ or cared for the child he helped create. Seems to me he could care less about women in general. Oh, and it's hard to pay child support without an income, but maybe that's why he didn't bother to work.

      Delete
    8. Anonymous2:34 PM

      12:41 here.

I have a lot of problems with Sanders being dismissive of reproductive rights, etc. I don't think it's that he doesn't care, just that it's not a priority for him.

I don't have any problem with having children out of wedlock and I don't know enough about his unemployment and his relationship supporting or not supporting his child.

What I do know is that the GOP will dig up every piece of dirt possible and present him as a deadbeat dad who was on welfare (socialist!) and now wants to raise your taxes.

I don't take any pleasure in writing this, but so many Sanders fans say he's more electable than Clinton without realizing the smear campaign that lies before him.

He has enthralled the young-ins with his "free college" promise. When I was young, I glommed onto similar candidates; mostly, they failed miserably. I finally woke up and faced reality and supported the more reasonable candidates who, while they did not fart glitter, managed to get elected and were able to get something done against the Repubs.

A lot of young men during the 1960s, had surprisingly sexist views of a woman's place in the revolution. A lot of it was about throwing off the sexual shackles of society and putting out.

Boy, Bernie haters are really having to stretch it. Ridiculous! I have nothing bad to say about either Hillary or Bernie, they both are on the same side and either is better than a republican. But I must say, I rarely meet a Bernie supporter wanting to trash Hillary (rarely, not never). I rarely meet a Hillary supporter willing to say anything good about Bernie. But the things they do complain about are really meaningless.

If anyone needs to take the lion's share of the blame it's the right wing media. They know that repeating lies often enough are going to influence a segment of the population. Benghazi for one example. Now you got Bernie millenials saying they don't trust Hillary but they can't articulate why!

1:37 I did not say that he was upset or always angry. I said I HOPED it didn't upset him, inferring that as well Hillary has put up with lies that have been told about her for decades but that hasn't stopped her. So nothing new. All politicians are lied about. I hope it doesn't stop Bernie either. And by the way he isn't my hero.

By the way toots I AM the one that has been posting the research here on Bernie!

It's a good round-up of why a lot of people don't trust her or The Clinton Foundation that is now completely intertwined with her campaign finances: A person can only give a candidate $2,300 but can give unlimited amounts to a Foundation. No wonder she is touchy on the subject of campaign financing...

Extremely interesting article here about Bernie Sanders translated from French:

" Imagine that you find yourself on a desert island with him. He speaks. The days pass. He speaks and always, in the end, you prefer sharks. " - Garrison Nelson, professor of science policy

    Stay at Kibbutz

Shortly after graduation, Bernie Sanders then spent a few months in Israel with his first wife Sha'ar Ha'Amakim, a kibbutz affiliated with the Hashomer Hatzair, the "young guard" Socialist Zionist. The episode speaks volumes about his reluctance to deliver as we had expected in February for the area is identified, after a dive into the archives of the Israeli daily Haaretz. One of its journalists had met the person then most talkative in 1990, on the occasion of its first national campaign.

His brother Larry, who had shared this communal experience, do not remember the place, located near Haifa, any more than the first wife of the senator. The campaign for the Democratic nomination and the inquisitors cohorts delivered it carries another secret. It concerns the only son of Bernie Sanders who, according to legend, hung on his other arm when he raised his hand to bring candidate. It was not until July that the identity of the real mother has been established. The story official had long retained the name of the first wife of the future senator. But the child was conceived with another companion, remained as discreet as his father.

  60. The P.S. to the article referenced another video. If you follow the link and skip ahead to about 8:30, you'll see Sanders gesturing at the person two to his right—as he has been doing a lot during this segment—with his hand and forearm more-or-less in the face of Huntsman, who is sitting in the middle. She finally gently pushes his arm away. Rather than accepting the rebuke, he simply pushes back, harder. Not nice.

Being Italian and growing in a mixed community racially and religious affiliation, if I and my jewish friends walked into a house and people were sitting on their hands while talking, the running joke was that one of us would ask "Who Died?"
I didn't catch anything in the first video, and in the second I just saw annoyance at the exuberant animation Bernie's prone to use while talking.
I couldn't make out his words to Jane, did he "put her in her place"? Or was he just talking with his arms moving, wanting to make eye contact with his audience?
Either way, it won't effect my vote, I'm still with Hillary.

I've been reading a lot of comments on Bernie and Hillary articles over at www.crooksandliars.com and www.dailykos.com and I think that from all the negative comments on those sites about Hillary that we all better get on the Bernie train before we elect Trump by not being Bernie supporters. Most Hillary supporters admit that they will vote for Bernie if he is the nominee but it's not reciprocal by the Bernie supporters. It's Bernie or bust. So if we all agree we don't want Trump, Cruz, or any other Republican we need to get on the Bernie train and support him because he will get supporters from both campaigns; Hillary will only get supporters from her campaign. And, by the way, this is snark and I am voting for Hillary and then I'm voting for the Democratic nominee in November. It's making me mad that this country has always been old white men running the place. I love President Obama.

  65. He clearly says, "Don't stand next to me" and it appears to be a response to his crew managing the presentation. A woman steps forward to move Jane Sanders back. Is this all they can come up with that while he is giving a speech his non-politician wife doesn't know to stand back from the speaker. He's giving a speech there isn't a lot of time for explanations. Anyone who stands next to Bernie when he gives a speech is in danger due to his arm waving anyway. At this point both Sanders and Clinton are getting tired and stressed and bluntness is a normal way of talking for people from NY.
