Bernie Sanders predicts a "messy" DNC convention, wants to exercise more control over the Democratic party moving forward.

Courtesy of The Big Story:

Bernie Sanders predicted Monday that the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia could be "messy" as he pushed the party to adopt his progressive agenda, but added, "Democracy is not always nice and quiet and gentle."

The Democratic presidential candidate said in an interview with The Associated Press that his supporters hoped to see a platform at the July convention that reflects the needs of working families, the poor and young people as opposed to one that represents Wall Street and corporate America.

The Vermont senator said he will "condemn any and all forms of violence" but his campaign was bringing in newcomers to the process and first-time attendees of political conventions. He said the Democratic Party could choose to be more inclusive.

"I think if they make the right choice and open the doors to working-class people and young people and create the kind of dynamism that the Democratic Party needs, it's going to be messy," Sanders said. "Democracy is not always nice and quiet and gentle but that is where the Democratic Party should go."

Asked if the convention could be messy, Sanders said: "So what? Democracy is messy. Everyday my life is messy. But if you want everything to be quiet and orderly and allow, you know, just things to proceed without vigorous debate, that is not what democracy is about."

So the question to be asked is "How messy will it be?"

Part of the answer to that question might be suggested by this Jake Tapper tweet from yesterday.
Okay well I think we all know that there is NO way that Hillary is going to give Bernie Sanders any say over who she appoints to her cabinet. And demanding that she do so is guaranteed to cause conflict.

Of course the pressure that Bernie wants to apply to Hillary to get her to bend to his will is the promise of endorsing her and sending his army of supporters to cast their votes for her in the general.

However as it turns out that support may be nontransferable.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Mr. Sanders has drawn enthusiastic support from young people, a common pattern for outsider candidates. But here, too, the impression of ideological commitment is mostly illusory. While young Democrats in the January survey were more likely than those over age 35 to call themselves liberals, their ideological self-designations seem to have been much more lightly held, varying significantly when they were reinterviewed.

Moreover, warm views of Mr. Sanders increased the liberalism of young Democrats by as much as 1.5 points on the seven-point ideological scale. For many of them, liberal ideology seems to have been a short-term byproduct of enthusiasm for Mr. Sanders rather than a stable political conviction.

Perhaps for that reason, the generational difference in ideology seems not to have translated into more liberal positions on concrete policy issues — even on the specific issues championed by Mr. Sanders. For example, young Democrats were less likely than older Democrats to support increased government funding of health care, substantially less likely to favor a higher minimum wage and less likely to support expanding government services. Their distinctive liberalism is mostly a matter of adopting campaign labels, not policy preferences.

The illusory progressive ideals of Sanders' supporters combined with the rabid anti-Hillary rhetoric that permeates his movement, and their absolute certainty that the system is rigged against their candidate, means that counting on their votes in November may be a waste of time and resources.

The Bernie supporters who are actually Democrats will vote for the Democrat in the race, but the ones who showed up only for the revolution, well those folks will be the ones outside arguing with the cops and screaming that the whole system is rigged.

So if Sanders has really nothing to bargain with, why bargain?

By the way for those still clinging to the idea that Sanders had this nomination stolen from him, you might want to read this post from Kos.

    "Down ballot"?!
    More like down the hall...

"The leadership PAC of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) has paid out nearly $100,000 more in salaries than it has given to Democratic candidates during the 2016 election cycle, a review of Federal Election Commission records shows.
The Democrats Win Seats PAC, or DWS PAC, has a stated mission of directing “resources to help elect Democrats around the country.” However, records show the PAC has spent more on staff than helping campaigns."

Anon at 8:28 am. And President Obama did not exactly get great help from Bernie Sanders either. Because of his "independent status," Sanders has never had an important Congressional committee role. He brayed on and on about single payor health care until the last minute when he finally decided to vote with the Democrats, after they fought the GOP anti-health care reform onslaught for months. Bernie Sanders' biggest problem is Bernie Sanders' ego.

    3. In addition I saw this morning a video interview by Kristin Welker for MSNBC where Sanders explained in detail...over and over again to the reporter...that messy was the nature of democracy. He said nothing indicating a level of 1968 in Chicago. He did not walk anything back, just explained what he said and meant, and kept correcting the reporter as she tried to stretch the statements. Seriously, this site along with the comments are looking more like World Net Daily every day. A spirited debate is good, and there is nothing this primary that was more excessive than 2008...remember the PUMAs. As for Sanders not being a real Democrat, I strongly recommend EJ Dionne's book "Why the Right Went Wrong". Mainstream Democrats today such as Clinton (both) and Schultz would be considered Eisenhower Republicans back in the day. As the right shifted right the left filled the middle gap. So enough of this crap about Sanders having no right about running as a Democrat. He's just running as a mainstream one from back when the Democrats were actually progressive. Education is an amazing thing...

“There have been a lot of meetings over the past 48 hours about what color plate do we deliver Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s head on,” said one pro-Clinton Democratic senator.
A senior Senate Democratic aide said, “There’s a strong sentiment that the current situation is untenable and can only be fixed by her leaving. There’s too much water under the bridge for her to be a neutral arbiter.”

Another Democratic senator who supports Clinton said Wasserman Schultz will hurt her chances of rallying the liberal base in the fall.

“We need to get this figured out and come together,” said the lawmaker. “Hillary’s got the nomination. She needs Bernie’s energy. It’s time for her to accommodate. It’s time to pick hard-nosed people to cut through things and figure out a deal."

WTF. The poor old man isn't even a Democrat. I hope they tell him to put it where the sun doesn't shine. He's been an independent for forever. Just signed on as a Democrat a few months ago. He's a pie in the sky prostitute. Great ideas that can't be paid for and will never happen. I've been more than a little shocked at the number of his followers. Can't help but wonder how they think all his grand delusions would ever get paid for.

Elizabeth Warren Has Had It With Donald Trump

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), amplifying her her recent attacks on Donald Trump, admonished the presumptive GOP presidential nominee in a no-holds-barred speech on Tuesday, calling him “a small, insecure money-grubber who doesn’t care who gets hurt.”

If Trump wins the presidency he should pay for a trip to Moscow for the Sanders as a thank you for handing the election to Trump.

Does Sanders really care about the Democratic Party? Sanders is playing the unwinnable scorched earth primary election game to the end.

Sanders is playing to the last second and so what if he can't win and is destroying Clinton's chance of winning the presidency by building up hate against her and is giving Trump sound bites against her.

What does Sanders owe the Democratic Party?

Hillary uses sound bits from other Republicans against Drumpf.

Why do you have so little faith in Hillary that you object to her opponent using strategies that the old girl uses, herself?

This is a game of Political Battleship. Hillary has sunk enough of Sanders ships that he has no chance of winning the Democratic Party primaries and she has moved on and focused on going after Trump's ships. Meanwhile as Hillary's ships are advancing forward to the General Election, Sanders ships are sneaking up behind Hillary's ships and sinking her ships from behind with friendly fire for no apparent reason since he can't beat Hillary.

Sanders got his picks on the platform committee. The contract is signed (in blood, with the devil). It's over. Sanders was amazing, a breath of fresh air while it lasted. He brought a lot of issues to the forefront we never would have discussed. Nobody thought he'd get this far. But it's over. Time to start picking up the pieces and move on to the real contest

    Clinton versus Trump

Sen Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) why wasn't Burlington College tuition free?

Bernie why did Burlington College pay your wife $200,000 to leave and then went under?

Bernie why did young college students give you their money for you to win the New York primaries but instead you left during the New York primaries, took their money and chartered a 767 to Rome to give a 10 minute speech and ended up losing New York?

Why did Jane sanders create a woodworking program and then hire her daughter's woodworking school to run it (paying her a pile of money from Burlington College's ailing budget)?

Funny, Bernie never was a Democrat before. He was an Independent Socialist. Now he wants to set the agenda for a party he just joined in order to run for president?

Bernie caucuses with the Democrats and always has...

Attack his message; don't attack his loyalty to American progressives.

I think that the power of speaking to thousands of cheering fans must ultimately go to a person's head. Bernie got a surprisingly favorable response that must have gone to his head. I can hear that line from Sally Fields, "You like me, you really LIKE me!"

It went to Mitt Romney's head so that he thought that he was going to win, no matter what the polls said. He had no concession speech; he was that sure that he would win. Even now, he still can't get the roar of the crowd out of his ears. It must be pretty heady stuff to have all those microphones thrust in your face, people hanging on your every word, and the media capturing every moment.

Bernie may have started out to give voice to his strong feelings, and now he believes that he should be a candidate. After all, if he runs, the polls say that he could beat Trump. The problem is that Hillary has been a long time Democrat who knows how to put an organization together in each key state. She can tap into a group of experts who can draft policy positions for her. Bernie may have run for the Senate, but Hillary has been down this road before, both with her husband and in 2008. It was good when he and Hillary debated each other, bringing out the best in each other. But now it has gone too far, and Bernie can't reach the magic number. The problem is knowing when it is time to swallow a little pride and join forces with her to make a strong, unified party-- a party that he never belonged to.

The reason why he "wins" against trump in the poles is because there has been little to no opposition advertisement or comments on his record, his personal life, his history, and his ideas. All we have seen are snippets of his stump speech and his adoring cultish fans. If he wins this, the whole world will learn what Trumps folks and Hillary's folks already know. He's a lazy, one issue old fart who has NO business near the White House except as a visitor.
