Bernie Sanders supporters plan to file injunction in California to extend primary and allow more independent voters the opportunity to interfere in the process.

Courtesy of ABC News:

Attorneys representing a group of Bernie Sanders supporters informed San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera Thursday night that they plan to file an "emergency request" with U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup in the city today "for a preliminary injunction" in California's June 7 presidential primary," Herrera's office said.

"I think it's unfortunate -- and selfish, frankly -- that these plaintiffs would inject confusion and uncertainty into an election that has been underway for weeks," Herrera said in a statement Thursday night. "San Francisco's Department of Elections and its employees have been doing an exemplary job, and I'm equally confident that our co-defendants are also meeting or exceeding their legal duties. This lawsuit is without merit, and there is no basis for an emergency injunction. I intend to fight it aggressively."

The release continued, "The activists are seeking sweeping injunctive relief in their suit, including provisions to force 58 counties to segregate ballots already cast by unaffiliated voters; to allow "re-votes" by those voters for presidential primary candidates; and to extend the state's voter registration deadline -- which passed on May 23 for eligibility to vote in the June 7 primary -- until election day itself."

Bill Simpich, one of the San Francisco-based lawyers representing the group, said, "The main relief we are asking for is for the independent voters -- non-party preference or NPP -- to be able to vote for president on June 7 without tying up the voting lines and avoiding a situation of mass confusion.”

I think it's pretty obvious what is going on here.

The Bernie folks know full well that if they can open this up to the "non-party preference" crowd that it will allow the Trump supporters to help them steal this California primary away from Hillary, and give Sanders the momentum going into the convention that he has been talking about for the last week.

You know the Bernie Bros made a big stink by accusing the DNC of changing the rules the last minute in Nevada, which did not happen, so what do they say now about their obvious attempts to rig the system in their favor?

Oh, but the majority of his supporters can't be bothered to learn how to register to vote( even though there are volunteers all over California registering people) because they are used to Mommy and Daddy taking care of everything. The millennial generation for the most part are spoiled little children that never grew up, I made the mistake of hiring 4 of them two yrs ago they all lasted less than 30 days because they couldn't stay off social media and actually work. And get this, 3 of their Mommies called and wanted to know why they were let go!

Had he never done a thing, he would leave DC in retirement with a respectable legacy. As it is now, everyone in Congress knows he is a crash and burn (including burning all bridges) kind of guy. Thus, as President, he would get little cooperation from dems and zero from repubs. If he loses the election, he will be side-lined in Congress like never before. In his entire Congressional career, he has successfully enabled one law to be passed: one renaming a post office. In the future, if he remains in Congress, he will be even less productive, if that is even possible.

Bernie Sanders and his followers are quickly closing in on the Trump crew when it comes to despicable selfish behavior.

What a shame that after watching the Republican party be overtaken by the Tea Party over the last 8 years the Dems did not anticipate a similar outcome when they let the independent democratic socialist into their party so he could snatch the party for his own selfish gain. Way too trusting of them.

So, yes, hang on to your hats. A few weeks ago, Trump and Biden found themselves at the same event in Philadelphia — the graduation ceremony at the University of Pennsylvania. Trump was there to watch daughter Tiffany graduate, while the vice-president was celebrating the achievements of his granddaughter Naomi.

Reports described how Trump arrived to warm applause from the section in which he was sitting. Biden, on the other hand, was greeted by cheering and waving from the entire stadium.

What is a well known FACT is many states allow independent voters to vote in primaries.

Some issues specific to California have been deliberately left out to aid in spinning the Bernie Bad meme.

California primaries are open for state and congressional offices - the so-called "jungle" primaries. Presidential primaries aren't.People registered as NPP can request a Democratic, Republican or American Independent party presidential primary ballot at the polls on election day. Someone registered in a party can't.

There are people who intended to register as No Party Preference: "Independent" who were instead registered as American Independent Party and learned it when they requested a mail ballot or checked their registration on line to find their polling place. Because of the number of people who have discovered they were registered as American Independent instead of NPP, there's a concern that many more will discover this when they get to the polls and will be unable to select the ballot they want.

As for "being that way for decades": that is absolutely false. In every Presidential cycle since 2004, the CA Democratic Party has voted to allow No Party Preference voters to participate in CA Democratic Party presidential primary.

The idea that people want to suppress people's votes because people in the voter registration system made mistakes or voters were confused when they registered is despicable. A fundamental Democratic Party value is to encourage voter participation and help as many people as possible to vote.

Once again people on this site are showing they're not loyal to Democratic values, they're loyal to Hillary Clinton. Now with Voter Suppression.

Why is Bernie suing to suppress my vote that's already cast? Those who declare NPP in CA know why they cannot commit to any party for a primary, right? That's their choice. It's their responsibility to follow the rules. Simple.

I disagree with you & Bernie that a primary should be open to all those who are not members of the party. Stupid!

However: The Democratic Party in CA allows NPP voters to participate at the Presidential level in the primaries; all the NPP voters have to do is know how to read.

I don't think that people who will not condescend to belong to a political party have any right in deciding who will be the presidential nominee for any political party. That's a job for, in this country, registered Democrats and Republicans. I don't even think that people who won't register in one of the political parties should have a right to vote in any primaries that choose candidates - for any level of government. One would think that party registration means that a person is evil incarnate. That's not the case. Grown ups should know which of the two (or more) political parties best expresses their goals of civic life and be willing to be so identified. It does not mean that they will be forced to donate money, volunteer time or vote for a particular candidate in the November elections. It does give people the right to help choose the party's nominee.

There's a universe of difference between being "chosen" to belong to a fraternity or sorority and the "choice" a person has to register as a member of one or another political party. Fraternities and sororities are remnants of an extremely inegalitarian way of life. Registering in a political party is an adult citizen's way of announcing that he or she wants to participate in the political process in our country. 14. It is really easy to register to vote in California. I helped two young kids who just turned 18 register for the first time. It takes all of five minutes to register online. While helping them I noticed the shut off day to register for the primary. I told a young lady who wanted to change her party affiliation so she could vote for Bernie when she had to change and guess what she was able to do it online too. Not hard at all. We have elections every two years so only a small amount of voters wouldn't know if they could vote for Bernie or not. It isn't like we always allowed independents to vote and finally said oh wait you can't anymore. Voting sucks for down ballets in Cal since they changed it 2011 with the passing of prop 14. Which means that the top two candidates will go to the general election in November. It was a complete failure and I hope we can get rid of it. Most districts are heavy Republican or Democratic and so a lot of times you have two people running for the same office that are from the same party. I have not been able to vote for a Democrat down ballot since 2010 because I live in red district and I couldn't move. I'll be out of here in two years when my youngest graduates.

The repugs will probably use everything they've learned about him during this race to throw dirt at him like crazy during that election. It would be unfortunate to see another repug replace a dem in the Senate, but it could well happen now, because they will now have a vested interest in eliminating him from the public sphere.

And the irony about all of Bernie's right-wing positions is that he voted with Hillary 93 percent of the time when she was in the Senate. Yet he castigates her as though she had an 'establishment' or uber right-wing voting record – when it was the same as HIS voting record!! Was he not in favor of the 'revolution' THEN? There's no "registered independent" in CA. Voters registered as No Party Preference in CA are allowed to select the Democratic presidential primary ballot when requesting the ballot by mail or on election day. The suit in part alleges that many county boards of election in CA do an inadequate job of informing NPP voters that they're allowed to select a Democratic primary ballot.

The reason you're calling for voter suppression of people being able to register to vote up to election day, to be informed they can select a Democratic ballot if they're NPP is you think they'll vote for Bernie. Suppressing the votes of people who you think aren't going to vote the way you want is a Right Wing tactic. This is how low Clinton supporters are willing to go. Animal Farm indeed.

Yes, NPP can request a Democratic ballot in California.

Which is why I question the need for this suit.

It's almost as if someone is trying to smear Sanders with this suit, pretending to be supporters but actually whipping up hate and resentment against Sanders.

      Seems to have worked.

You are absolutely right about Bernie not yet having released his tax returns. I, too, wonder why they are refusing to release them?????? Can think of only one reason: the rules only apply to Hillary, and we white males are the privileged ones who make up our own rules as we go along – while continually accusing, attacking, and blaming the females for doing on a small scale what we have done writ large.

Anyone calling it "voter suppression" knows that Sanders has already lost CA. Did SANDERS file this?

Or did some attorneys representing some people who CLAIM to be Bernie Supporters?

Bernie Sanders Says Two DNC Committee Co-Chairs Are Biased Against Him

His campaign accuses Barney Frank and Dan Malloy of “professional, political and personal hostility toward the Senator and his Campaign.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Friday continued his attack on the Democratic National Committee, asking that the co-chairs of two committees be booted from their posts because they were partial to Hillary Clinton.

Sanders’ campaign requested that Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy and former Rep. Barney Frank (Mass.) be removed from their respective positions on the Platform Committee and the Rules Committee. Both have endorsed Clinton.

I guess anyone who has supported Hillary Clinton or any other Democratic candidate must be banned from the Democratic National Convention now. What chutzpah! Both Frank and Malloy are long standing Democratic leaders and have every right to chair a committee at the convention. Had Bernie Sanders become a Democrat twenty years ago he might be in a leadership position today too. Obviously Bernie Sanders does not believe in "playing fair." I can just imagine what a whiny little nuisance he must have been as a child!

      Oh bullshit overwrought exaggeration.

Sanders is trying to level the playing field and fighting to remove the thumb in favor of Clinton from the scale.

Dan Malloy endorsed Clinton on day 1 of her campaign. He was among those who claimed Sanders was responsible for Sandy Hook - one of the most outrageous smears ever leveled against a candidate.

Frank is not just a Clinton supporter. He's strongly against Sanders. He's given multiple interviews against Bernie.
He even wrote an opinion piece on Politico "Why Progressives Shouldn't Support Bernie".

The chairman is supposed to be neutral. She should nominate neutral parties as her picks for the Platform Committee. Putting two blatantly biased people on the Platform committee like Malloy and Frank is like giving Clinton 2 extra spots. Unfair. Sanders has every right to protest DWS stacking the committee. You'd be up in arms if it was the other way around.

      You are correct.
And Rendell,Mr.“There are probably more ugly women in America than attractive women." is whining that the DNC is $10mil. short for their convention!

Where are all those fuckers that paid Hillary $21mil. for those speeches?

Are they shittin' their panties knowing that the FBI has the emails between the State Dept. and the Clinton Foundation that Hillary thought were deleted forever, but Datto in Conn. saved ALL of 'em and now the FBI is reading them?
$10mil is chump change to the heavy hitters on that list.
Why is Rendell whining like a bitch about not enough money for the coronation?
Can't the queen cough it up herself?

Desperate times call for desperate measures, the DNC the democrat loathes is as fault for the votes, delegates and superdelegates any particular candidate gets. He called for a recount, and there was no there "there", what's next Bernie?
The RNC is doing a bang up job, have you thought of switching sides and shaking things up big time?

Hostility toward Bernie is a one-way street. He and his followers are free to express hostility toward whomever they choose (especially Obama and Hillary), but anyone who questions them is showing hostile behavior. Folks, it's the same mindset as Trump: white male privilege. Please see it for what it really is.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anonymous6:01 PM

Bernie is either playing into the hands of Trump or playing his hand with Trump. It's baffeling. Up until this ridiculous campaign started, there was nothing wrong with the Democrats. Now everything is wrong. And the shit of it all that everyone and I mean everyone is drinking the koolaid. Someone's instigating bigtime in the shadows. And because we've been trained by media, tv, and gameshows, suddenly the average American has no mind to make up on their own. It's astounding. Did you see the NRA commercial with Charlie Danial? The South really wants to rise again. They just not done with it yet. Oh, and I am sick of Sarah Palin who keeps popping into the scene with her smug face. Why she lookin' like the Chesire cat?
