Former child actor Kirk Cameron's marriage advice is essentially everything works out fine as long as women know their place.

Courtesy of Christian Post:

"A lot of people don't know that marriage comes with instructions," Cameron explained. "And, we find them right there in God's word."

Cameron stated that husband's are "to love their wives and not to tell their wives that they need to submit to them," but added that wives should not only respect their husbands but also follow their lead.

"Wives are to honor and respect and follow their husband's lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband," Cameron explained. "When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage."

So to be clear the husbands should tell their wives to submit, the wives should just know to do that in order to keep the marriage together.

You know I'm twice divorced so I am the last guy to give marital advice, but it seems to me that if your relationship only survives because one of you is expected to shut up and do as they're told, then what you have is not really a relationship. Well certainly not a healthy one.

On a related note we could all still be enjoying the existence of slavery if those uppity Negroes had only accepted the fact that the white folks were in charge.

  1. His showbiz career tanked early on. So like other D-list celebs, for instance Stephen Baldwin, he flogs fundamentalist Christianity, trying desperately to find an audience.

This is a tactic also employed by cons like Charles Colson, et alia ad nauseam.

Unfortunately I think a lot of men feel this way, Christian or not. My husband is an athiest and pretty much feels the same way.

I'm afraid you're correct. It's as much a cultural problem as it is religion. They can always bleat about biology.

Yep. My soon to be x, who would tell you how tolerant and open he is, how supportive of woman, I am divorcing because he was incapable of supporting me in any way and expected me to put aside every single need of my own and work at fulfilling every single need of his. And he still doesn't understand why I left.

      And yet you married him.

@ 8:53. Sometimes who we marry morphs into someone else over the lifespan of a marriage. Btw I'm the original poster, and my husband changed after becoming a Dr and having people treat him as a God and never question him. He's not the same young college student I married 38 years ago. I'm sure I've changed too.

Exactly 9:47! Funny, mine went from the biological sciences (when I met him) and went into health care - and thus the downward fall began!

I'm so often amused at sanctimonious buffoons like Cameron who believe they know what god wants.

That's right, Kirk, let's put "love, honor, and OBEY" back in traditional marriage vows.

Oh, and Negroes enjoyed being slaves. Just ask Clive Bundy.

    Eye roll.

Most of the abuse from extremist Christians against women stems from the rants and letters of a man names Paul of Tarsus.

Paul, most unfortunately, had his lunatic rants and ravings included in the new testament, and that sealed the fate of millions of women and girls around the world to being oppressed, abused, raped, and stepped on for millenia.

Paul's writings include such gems as "gays deserve death" (Romans 1:32) and
condoning and encouraging slavery, Ephesians 6:5

Like all the Abrahamic religions, evangelical Christians have it in writing that women are 3rd class citizens, and should just stay home, pop out 19 kids, keep house, and shut the f*ck up.

According to the colossal bigot named Paul women should
" get married, bear children, keep house, be kind, and be subject to their own husbands, not teach or have authority over men, and shut the hell up in church"

The final nail in the coffin for girls and women is
    Ephesians 5:22
"Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord"

In other words, men rule every aspect of your life and body, and you'll do what we f*cking say because that's the will of Darth Vader in the sky who will punish you forever if you don't, and you'll end up going to hell.

Well, Paul (born Saul) was a convert, and converts are usually the most vehement when it comes to their religion.
and of course the "bible" was written by men alone.......

    2. Not true.

There is a gospel of Mary Magdalene but it was suppressed and considered a heresy.

There are several books by actual disciples.

Paul was included because of the agenda of the men in the church. If he didn't write it, someone else did and put Paul's name on it. Scholars have known that some of Paul's "writings" are forgeries.

Does it really matter at this point who "wrote" it? The bottom line is that the bible contains numerous examples of misogyny throughout both testaments. That misogyny is simply not acceptable in any form of polite society.

I have had enough of being told I must submit to my husband when I pay all the bills. I am sick of this crap and sick of being told I have to submit. I dont want to be subiugated to anyone anymore. The Bible, as Paul wrote it, really puts women down and says they have to shut up and take their place. As far as I can see. Paul hated women.

    1. Paul should never have been included in the bible. He was not a disciple and never knew Jesus. Plus many of Paul's "writings" are forgeries, written by anonymous authors using his name.

Paul is the Goebbels of Christianity. He was used by those in charge to put their own agendas into the bible when they were turning Christianity into a male dominated hierarchy with delusions of world theocracy.

  12. Christians don't worship Paul. His letters to the early churches do not comprise the tenets of mainstream Christianity.

Christian belief is summed up in the creeds spoken in the Catholic Mass and in Protestant services. (I.e., Nicene Creed and Apostles Creed. Credo means "I believe" in Latin.) Nothing in either creed suggests that women are inferior or should be submissive. Both creeds exalt Mary's role as the mother of Jesus.

In the Old Testament and the New, women played powerful roles. Anyone who lifts snippets of scripture out of context is missing the big picture, whether they're Christian, atheist, none, etc.

Being Christian doesn't hold women back in our time either. Hillary Clinton, a Methodist, is currently the most relevant proof of this point.

    1. "St" Paul *is* the center of the tenets of the Fundamentalists and haters. They quote him and his impersonators to justify gay bashing and misogyny. If it's justifying some sort of hate, supremacy or elitism in the bible, rest assured it's coming from something Paul or his forgers wrote.

Nothing could be better for Christianity than to have all of Paul's writings removed from the bible and disavowed. The New Testament would be much shorter and much kinder. Probably a lot closer to the teachings of Jesus too.

Too many people ignore examples of Paul according equality to women. He took pains to ensure that female apostles were treated with the same respect shown to males. He addressed Thekla, Phoebe, Priscilla, etc., as sisters, servants of God, and even perhaps deacons.

Some scholars believe a woman wrote the letter to the Hebrews. Maybe that's one of the forgeries to which you alluded.

People pushing their own agendas quote-mine both the Old and New Testaments. This may be intentional, or simply due to a negligent, superficial approach to Scripture. Regardless, the results just create more divisiveness and misunderstanding.

The writings ascribed to Paul are right where they belong, but readers should consider the whole, and not cherry-pick a few verses out of context.

You were a librarian. If you're unfamiliar with the writings of feminist theologian Dr. Sandra M. Schneiders, I recommend "Women and the Word," as a good introduction to her body of work.
