Hillary Clinton is done fooling around, declares that she "will be the nominee" for the Democratic party. Well there you go then.

As you might imagine the Bernie Sanders' campaign did not exactly take kindly to that statement.

Courtesy of Mediaite:

In the past three weeks voters in Indiana, West Virginia and Oregon respectfully disagreed with Secretary Clinton. We expect voters in the remaining eight contests also will disagree. And with almost every national and state poll showing Sen. Sanders doing much, much better than Secretary Clinton against Donald Trump, it is clear that millions of Americans have growing doubts about the Clinton campaign.

Of course in order for these last states to make any real difference Sanders would have to win about 75% in each state.  And even then he would fall short of the number that he needs to win.

However, if you count super delegates, Hillary is already 95% of the way to the 2,384 number she needs to clinch this thing.

Yes I know that in the minds of Sanders' supporters somehow the top officials from the party that their candidate has been attacking as corrupt for the last several months will suddenly have a change of heart and switch their allegiance to him during the convention allowing him to walk away with the nomination, but for those of us who did not eat a marijuana brownie for breakfast that scenario seems more than a little unlikely.

So yes, as hard as it may be to admit, Hillary Clinton is essentially correct.

P.S. By the way there is a rather interesting article over at Shakesville about exactly how much of Bernie Sanders' success he owes to the Democratic party that he now labels unfair and corrupt.

After you read it perhaps it will help clarify exactly who is being unfair to who.

  3. Hey Gryphen, you better buckle up for the Bernie Brigade to start shouting at you again...This, from The Hill:

“You know, we’ve had elections. Hillary has more votes,” Boxer continued. “And Hillary has more delegates, not even counting superdelegates. So I think we need to look at … what is at stake here. And let me tell you what’s at stake here: everything. Everything that we believe in.

“He needs to stop doing this or Donald Trump will win,” one of Clinton allies said. “While his intentions started off in the best of ways, he’s shown he has no loyalty to the Democratic Party. One hopes he understands that his actions could result in giving Donald Trump the nuclear launch codes.”

Considering the source of that doomsday prediction, Hillary could make this all go away by choosing Bernie as her VP.

Warren would be fettered as VP, and her Hemingwayesque tweets would be lost to the world.

Gryphen, even you can see a sparkle of logic in that scenario, i believe.

I'd be shocked if Hillary Clinton picked Bernie as her VP!!! Shocked, I say, shocked!

Elizabeth Warren and she would make a dynamic team! At least, that's the opinion of many Americans!

But, Hillary knows whom she'd work with the best and would feel most comfortable.

We don't know if she and Ms. Warren have met or talked together at this point. Or, for that matter, if she has conversed with another possibility.

    5. I am grateful to the Sanders campaign for clarifying several things for me.

One of these is that I would prefer not to have to vote for another Old White Man. I'd vote for Sanders as the VP or the nominee, because I'm a Democrat and I care about our country, but I'd prefer not to have to.

Another is how eager I am to work for Clinton's election.

A woman with a disability who was once Bernie or Bust, realized that Hillary is the candidate who really listens to and cares about people.

Clinton is in the 1%. She lives like she's in the 1%, she acts like she's in the 1%. She pals around with the 1%. Like Obama wrote in "The Audacity of Hope", when he started seriously considering running for the Senate, he began to meet and socialize with people with money who he wanted to support his campaign. The more time he spent with them, the more he began to identify with them and the more removed he became from the poor and downtrodden he'd been working for for so many years. It's happened to Clinton, too. She and Bill have spent the years since he left office amassing an immense fortune. She's a 1%er for sure: $600 haircut, $1600 McQueen handbag.

She's known this because it's been fixed from the beginning.
It's been fixed since she pulled out in 2008.

I was thinking about presidents yesterday at work while waiting for clients. It hit me square in the face that the presidents known for lasting accomplishments are the ones who were black sheeps, who were intensely hated and were basically loners. LBJ's brother and family hated him. And even though he became president because the govt/whomever decided to off JFK, he signed good things into practice.

While many of our current problems exist because of things from the 60s/70s, a lot of good happened as well. We like to blame presidents for things. Hoover got a lot of blame he had nothing to do with. Bush admin may have initiated war, but a lot of that started far before 2000.

But back to the point. Black sheeps and loners are often the game changers and influential movers and shakers.

For the bernie supporters railing against Hillary-why did the majority of people in public office in Vermont support Hillary instead of Bernie?

Bernie is not some God anymore than Obama was. A few things Obama has and I think Hillary has absorbed is compassion for all peoples and pragmatism which assists in prioritizing goals and a sincere warmth for everyone which transcends politics.

Yes Bernie has big ideas and most are great ideas, however, Bernie and his wife started "believing their own press" a few months back and stopped working for us. Additionally if someone is in the top 1% it doesn't mean we instantly castigate them and label them as bad. Nor is everyone in the 99% good and deserving.

Bernie and those who support them see everything and all of us in black and white without ANY room for gray. So what if Hillary is now a part of that 1% Bernie and supporters despise-are you honestly saying that just because of that one fact she is not to be trusted nor worthy of your vote?

In 2008 I campaigned for a Obama and despised Hillary however I see a different Hillary running now and she has my support and enthusiasm.

Bernie had my support as well but lost it a few months ago.

Where are the tax filings? Why won't they talk about how Jane nearly bankrupted the university she was head of? The place where she was asked to resign from?
Why aren't we talking about the billions Bernie's free ed. will cost us? And the billions for universal healthcare will cost us?
What about asking exactly how long was Bernie on unemployment? Did he pay child support? He became mayor at 40- there doesn't seem to be much evidence of him working steadily at any job prior yo that.

Why are we not allowed to ask questions? We who campaigned for Obama dealt with questions about where he was born? Is he gay? Is he Muslim? Too young? Too inexperienced? Too corrupt? Too naive? And more.

Why can't our free society ask about Bernie and Jane? Because they are running like Trump and won't engage in anything other than their narrative.

No, you missed the point. How many times have we been told that Clinton supporters don't have enthusiasm? I have a lot of enthusiasm. I'm thrilled that Clinton is going to be the nominee. I'm not going to hold back from cheering when she wins a state or when she has a clear path to the nominee. It seems even publicly showing happiness at my preferred candidate's success is somehow alienating Sanders supporters.

There are still a few states left in the primary and Clinton has every right to continue to rally her supporters, just like Sanders has that same right.

People like me? People who are excited when their candidate has success? People like Sanders supporters who are also excited when THEIR candidate has success?

Nope, people like YOU are the problem. People who call the winning candidate arrogant or condescending or entitled because they are celebrating winning.

      Totally shady.
      Janes tenure at Burlington?
      Needs investigation.
I would like to see answers to all of those questions.
I'm not talking about any of that. I'm saying that Bernie has 45% of the vote in the primaries so far, of people who were ELIGIBLE to vote. The fact is he has more supporters than just the people who turned in their registration in time to BE eligible.
I'm not saying the eligibility rules should be changed- you snooze you lose.
However it does not negate the fact that these people WILL be voting in the general.
He has more supporters out there, and we NEED them.
He's clearly in this for the long haul, and nothing anyone says is going to make him drop out.
He represents a percentage of the electorate that has a right to be heard.
Who are any of us to try to silence that voice?

Hillary has made a direct rebuttal to Warren's comments about that vote. Maybe Warren doesn't accept Hillary's reasons (although lots of people do), but Warren still encouraged Hillary to run and didn't endorse Sanders.

Sometimes people disagree. They don't have to go to war over it.

When Hillary gets the nomination, Warren will endorse her and fight on her behalf.

8:25 she represented Wall St. as a NY Senator, as did Schumer. Warren approves of HRC's Wall St. Plan; she made a statement of approval in Dec. 2015. Read link @2:44.

@9:34, right but she changed positions AFTER election to the senate--Warren's point and thus demonstrated herself as untrustworthy because she's more beholden to the Wall St. interests who paid for her election than to voters. And don't forget more than 50 percent of her current campaign money is from Wall St. This is a systemic problem Sanders and Trump both recognize--the stranglehold of moneyed interests on our government and democracy.

Whether she would stand by meaningful banking reform is doubtful to me, as she is still beholden to them. And, after all, she and Bill embraced the neoliberal economics of the Reagen era with Bill signing the repeal of the last of banking regulations from the Depression era that led directly to the 2008 financial meltdown.

Also, Hilary's friends and backers in the party, like DWS, are not representing the working and middle class as they have allowed big money to pull the strings at the expense of taxpayers and a working democracy. Read:

Your Shakesville link is a biased opinion hit piece from an anti-Sanders site. Her assertion that Sanders has benefited from the VT Dem party discouraging Dem candidates from challenging him for his Senate seat is flawed. She's suggesting he knows they've "laidup" for him and he owes the Dem Party.

What's more likely is they discouraged Dems from challenging him because he's so popular they knew a challenger would loser and they didn't want to "lost challenge to a socialist" on their young Dems' resumes: self-protection, not an arrangement to help Sanders.

And, remember that he was an outstanding POTUS when he did serve our country in that capacity! And, he has been extremely well regarded these past years doing work for people around the globe!

Hillary Clinton, as POTUS, and Bill Clinton, as a past POTUS, will be outstanding to have in the White House come January, 2017. They are a great team, knowledgeable as no others (in both parties!) and experienced (Hillary especially so in foreign affairs which has huge importance!).

Bernie will never be the nominee as badly as he and Baby Jane want that to be his outcome. He's a divider, assuredly NOT a Democrat and I would suggest he needs to relax, return home and smoke some weed!

"This has been an all-time low by mainstream corporate media," says media scholar Robert McChesney, who joins us to discuss how the media is covering the race for the White House. "What we’ve seen is the Sanders campaign has been largely neglected ... And the coverage and the framing of it has been largely through the eyes of the establishment for the Hillary Clinton campaign." McChesney says reporters also failed simply to ask questions about what exactly happened over the weekend when Sanders supporters erupted in protest at the Nevada state Democratic convention after they said rules were abruptly changed and 64 Sanders supporters were wrongly denied delegate status. This "brought to the front just how little actual journalism goes on," he notes, "how much of it is simply regurgitating what people in power tell them." McChesney is a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the Department of Communication and is co-founder of Free Press, a national media reform organization.

The rules were not changed. It was never ok at the state convention to have delegates who weren't registered democrats in NV.

In fact, the Sanders delegates tries to change the rules that delegates didn't have to be elected, probably because they knew scored of their delegates weren't going to show up and they wanted to fill those slots with random people. That rule got shot down (because it's ridiculous).

This was a case where the Sanders delegates thought they'd gotten away with flipping the caucus, never mind the will of the people (the voters). They thought they were going to win at the state level and threw a tantrum when things were righted based on the rules.

...Privately, the Sanders campaign has been sending signals for weeks that they understand that they can’t win the race for the Democratic nomination. When Sen. Sanders discusses building a movement, he is serious. The heart of the Sanders campaign has always been a burning desire to build a grassroots movement to give a voice to the voiceless, and power back to the people.

The scope of the success of the Sanders campaign was a surprise, but it also created a dilemma. Sen. Sanders needs to keep his supporters engaged through the primary process. There is a legitimate fear that many of the people who voted for Bernie Sanders won’t stick around and be as active in a movement if he admits that he is not going to be the nominee. Sen. Sanders would also lose leverage in influencing the Democratic Party’s platform if he stopped working to accumulate delegates.

Bernie Sanders is not going to tear the Democratic Party apart.

Polls Now Firmly on Trump’s Side as Candidate Masterfully Adopts Hillary’s Greatest Strength. Do four major polls officially make a trend?

Everything. Everything has been turned upside down. Trump keeps taking kidney punch after kidney punch in the media and just keeps on blowing through stop signs with no sign of slowing down. Meanwhile, Hillary will still get the nomination thanks to winning larger states and the delegates that go with them, but even her most strident supporters will admit there’s absolutely no wind at her back going into the general, particularly with the threat of an ugly revolt at the Democratic convention looming in Philadelphia this summer.

The D's still have a second potential candidate for the pollees to answer a question about and they know it's coming, so none of this is surprising. alarming, or any reason to suddenly say "WE MUST SELECT BERNIE OR WE"LLL DIEEEEEEE!!!!!".

Also, does anybody bother to look at any of the other data than the spread (which is always used because it can be such a pretty, happy, inflated number when you want it to be). Many of the polls still have 10-12% responding "undecided", "other", "won't vote", or whatever that poll's categories happen to be. So they have a yooouge margin of error (well, at least a pretty big one. I just wanted to type "yoouge").

And then there's the sample sizes.
And then there's where were these polls taken?

Lastly, remember the question is a hypothetical and asks "what would you do today"? That's only pretty weakly indicative of what you will do 6 months from now after 1) the D's select the actual candidate; 2) you are barraged by ads; 3) watching the two candidates debate; and 4) generally just seeing how the candidates comport themselves.

I don't deny this data or even claim the polls are rigged. It's just very weak data. I don't think the folks at fivethirtyeight even bother to try to weigh in on this one for that exact reason. Too much potential to be wildly inaccurate, and they hate that.

Totally disagree! The media has been going after Hillary for months trying to discredit her and let the corporate owned media outlets constantly favor Trump!

There are many, many throughout our country that have NOT fallen in the trap of following like sheep in the dislike of Hillary Trump.

She will be the nominee and will beat Trump as POTUS. He's nothing but a bully, ego driven and knows nothing about government!

Plus, Hillary will eat his cake in the debates! Can hardly wait to watch them - all he does is call her names! She's a LOT tougher than he!

For those of you living in a Clinton echo chamber, the SF Examiner endorses Bernie Sanders:

"Sanders’ vision for the future of America is optimistic, egalitarian and just. The revolution he speaks of, however distant or far-fetched, is about restoring hope to so many who have assumed the terrors and injustices of modern life were insurmountable. That vision, that government can better people’s lives and root out entrenched corruption and cowardice, deserves our heartfelt support and full-throated endorsement."

    Examiner gets it.

Read all the posts. Anger. How did democrats get angry at Hillary and Bernie? Are being manipulated? It the Donald and his cohorts behind this? Or was the pus always festering. Interesting. Anyways, we got to get it together or Donny will be the next president. I know those eight years with Bush was pure hell. People came out of it legless. Now Bush is hiding out until the shitstorm calms. If ever. Can you imagine what four years with Trump would be like. It would be like putting a wino in the liquer store or a pedophile in a daycare, or a drug addict in the pharmacy. And I could go on but you get it.

Bernie Sanders imagine a person asked you can he move into your house (Democratic Party) and you welcomed him into your family and home. Months pass and you find out the person (Bernie) who you welcomed into your home is now going door to door house to house in your neighborhood, in your city and state telling everybody how terrible your family (Democrats) is while still living under your roof. Forgot to mention, (BS) is also ruining the chances for your family member (Hillary) getting a job.

Bernie Sanders’ Campaign Is Feeling The Money Burn
Sanders’ campaign entered May with a cash balance that was dwarfed by Hillary Clinton’s.

WASHINGTON — Bernie Sanders is burning through his campaign account.

The Sanders presidential campaign began May with just $5.8 million cash on hand, according to reports filed Friday with the Federal Election Commission. That was significantly less than the $30 million available to Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

Sanders’ cash-on-hand deficiency followed heavy spending by his campaign in the previous three months. The Vermont senator’s insurgent campaign spent $160 million from January through April, bringing its total spending to $202 million.

In April, the Sanders campaign fired hundreds of staffers as it pivoted toward the final primaries and caucuses of the long election season.
    -Huffington Post

The reason Sanders is spending money like water is because he is fighting a losing battle against Hillary Clinton. Hillary was using her money to transition into the General Election but now Sanders is forcing Hillary to spend more money against Sanders. All Sanders is doing is ruining Hillary's image and helping T-Rump beat Hillary with anti-Hillary soundbites.

    ESPN:
Mark Cuban says he'd consider being Hillary Clinton's VP if asked

Though Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said he doesn't have the time to run for President of the United States, he thinks he can find the time to serve as potential Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton's vice president.

In an excerpt of an interview that will air on Sunday's "Meet the Press" on NBC, Cuban was asked if he would listen if the Clinton campaign came to him offering the vice presidency.

"Absolutely," Cuban responded while adding that he would seek to alter some of Clinton's platform were he to become her running mate.

"If she's willing to listen, if she's willing to, you know, hear other sides of things, then I'm wide open to discussing it," Cuban said.

Thanks for the clip. I missed a lot of television lately. Hillary came across as sincere and on point as the facts go. I voted for President Obama both times, not because Hillary wasn't qualified, I became committed to doing what I could to get him elected, he had young and old working hard, side by side. Organizing For Obama was genius and ran like a well oiled machine. People felt they were part of something bigger than them and they desperately wanted to help.
I feel that way now with Hillary. She actually put down the flaming pitch forks and worked FOR her opponent.

Organizing for Obama was genius! I forged online friendships around the country that are still ongoing. Some in a special FB group I'm in have met in person. We discuss and encourage anything Obama. I voted for him both terms.

I'm with Hillary. She is QUALIFIED - probably more than any presidential candidate in modern times. Electing a president is like hiring CEO to run a company. I would not trust Bernie (or Trump) if North Korea submarines were sighted on the Pacific Coast or Russian military jets were flying over Alaska. Bernie may be against war, but he has ZERO diplomacy and is irresponsible!

How Donald Trump Gained Power Over Senate Republicans With His Supreme Court List

...In life under President Trump, it’s not hard to imagine that these senators would consider the prospect of seeing their old friend, mentor or brother appointed to the Supreme Court (or, conversely, removed from Trump’s list) when weighing the White House’s legislative agenda.

This is precisely why it’s rare to see a presidential candidate release a list of potential Supreme Court nominees before ever getting elected. There’s an ethical dimension to using a sitting judge as barter for something else — even if it just looks that way.

...Trump himself may see his Supreme Court nominee list as a political vehicle. Most of his picks hail from swing states or states that Trump would clearly like to put in play as he makes a Rust Belt push in the general election. As Chris Geidner of BuzzFeed pointed out, nearly half of the people on Trump’s list are on state courts, compared to the current composition of the Supreme Court, where three members came from the D.C. Circuit and four were from other federal appeals courts.

There’s another reason to think that politics (yes, politics!) is part of Trump’s Supreme Court thinking. His names were cobbled together with the help of the right-leaning Federalist Society as a means of saying, essentially, that these were the ideological bounds of the acceptable.

Democrats turn to Schumer to fix Sanders rift

The New York senator has longstanding ties to both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

As Hillary Clinton becomes increasingly frustrated with Bernie Sanders’ dogged campaign against the party establishment, Democrats backing the front-runner have recently begun looking to a peacemaker: Sen. Chuck Schumer.

And Schumer has been telling lawmakers in recent days he believes he could be a helpful bridge between the two feuding camps, a Democratic source familiar with the conversations said.

The New York senator enjoys a close relationship with Clinton, whom he helped usher into politics when she served as his junior senator.

...But Schumer also has longstanding ties to Sanders — both senators are sons of Brooklyn, with the accents to prove it, and were fellow students at James Madison High School in Gravesend. Schumer also helped recruit and coach Sanders for his Senate run in 2006 — and it was Schumer who lured the populist Vermonter to the gilded Democratic donor retreat in Martha’s Vineyard for the annual Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fundraiser last year, according to insiders.

President Hillary Clinton may need more Secret Service protection and a Kevlar jacket if what Salon says happens. I don't trust Sanders, his wife, campaign staff or his followers.

Reading the entire post at the website below makes sense but I effing hate to see that old fucker become vice-president. He's been in politics for 25 years and no one has heard of him. He only became popular during this campaign season for offering things to young people he can't deliver, free this and free that. It bothers me he took over $400,000 from his campaign fund to fly his family to Rome to give a 10 minute speech. It also bothers me he talks about how corrupt Wallstreet is but those two took $200,000 from a college that Jane sunk into the ground. Talk about free college, how many students tuitions did it cost to buy off and get rid of Jane? Those two remind me of corrupt con artists. Salon's post said another thing that bothers me.

"Now, at age 74, he has at last caught a political wave and has a shot at effecting genuine political change. He can’t be president. He simply doesn’t have the votes. But if he plays his cards right, he could be one heartbeat away from the presidency."

That means President Hillary Clinton better wear a Kevlar vest to protect herself from the hate Sanders stirred up against her. Sanders's voters wants to see him become president and someone may even take it the next step to see him become president.

If Hillary picks that f'er to be her vice-president then the order of presidential succession comes into play. He may be too old to last four years.

    Current Line of Succession
    # President Hillary Clinton
    1 Vice President
2 Speaker of the House of Representatives
3 President pro tempore of the US Senate

    Salon:
"Hillary must pick Bernie for VP: She may even need him more than he needs her"

That means if Sanders's voters gets rid of President Clinton and Vice president Sanders dies of old stage or has a stroke and has to be be hand fed oatmeal and wear a bag for his waste then Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan becomes president if he is still the Speaker of the House.

I believe when the VP replaces a dead President he is allowed to appoint his own VP, who in turn then can become president if the President dies.

The Speaker of the House would only become president if both the president and VP died.

We'll see how long Paul Ryan stays Speaker. There is the possibility this year or in 2-4 years the Dems may take back the House.
