John Oliver reveals the deeply flawed primary system in America and then takes a moment to explain to Bernie Sanders supporters that their candidate has essentially lost.

My favorite line is when he says of Bernie supporters "I can hear you typing right now, that I look like an angry toucan funded by Shillary."

And lo and behold in the comments section I find this: fuck you john you look like an angry toucan and are probably funded by $hillary

As well as this: The irony of John talking about Hillary having more votes so Bernie supports shouldn't be mad... Well yeah, because all of the media is extremely pro-Hillary, including this show.

This: See how Oliver never criticizes Clinton? His bosses at Time Warners wont let him.

And of course this: Its truly sad Bernie supporters get boiled down to such a stereotype.

Yes, that certainly is a shame.

The Clintons, the Obamas, and Senators like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are all going to be able to campaign across this country with a message that is designed to defeat Trump.

Once Democrats get rolling, Donald Trump is going to realize that beating lightweights like Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Jeb Bush did nothing to prepare him for the what is coming this fall.

Former President Clinton is just getting warmed up. Trump is about to find out that his Twitter account is useless when he is being taken down by a former president.

Obama Approval Rating Jumps To 3 Year High As GOP Argument For White House Evaporates

...Donald Trump’s entire argument for why he should president is that America is no longer great, but with President Obama holding an approval rating that Trump can only dream of, it’s clear that the majority of the Americans don’t share the presumptive Republican nominee’s view of the current state of the country.

The only people who share Trump’s outlook are his fellow Republicans, and there aren’t enough of them to win a general election against Hillary Clinton. The fastest way for Trump to lose will be if he continues to talk about Obama like he is from some parallel universe where George W. Bush never happened, and Barack Obama is responsible for the economic crash, ISIS, and the Iraq war.

Obama’s popularity guts the Republican change argument. Presidents aren’t popular just because they are nice people. Presidents are popular when they do a good job. Obama’s growing popularity is concrete proof that a majority like what he is doing in office. Obama’s popularity, Trump’s unpopularity, and Hillary Clinton’s competence leave Republicans with only one road to run on.

Republicans are going to have run a dirty smear fest of personal attacks against Hillary Clinton, but this tactic is just as likely to backfire on Republicans than it is to help.

Sanders And Clinton Supporters Come Together In Ohio To Unleash Hell On Trump

...A Hillary Clinton win would be good for Sen. Sanders and his supporters.

A Clinton presidency will likely lead to a Democratic Senate majority, which would result in Bernie Sanders and his message becoming more powerful. The best thing outside of Sanders victory for Bernie supporters is a Democratic victory in the fall because Sen. Sanders will be in a great position if Democrats take back the Senate.

Sanders will be able to carry his message of political revolution and influence policy as a member of the Democratic majority working with a Democratic president.

Hopefully Hillary Clinton will beat Trump in November but I'm not so sure how helpful Bernie Sanders would be in a (also hopefully) Democratically-controlled Senate. Sanders is running for reelection in Vermont as an independent so he'll continue to be on the outside, not being counted as a Democrat. While he has voted most of the time with the Democrats, he's not one of them and has held no leadership positions on committees.

You really shouldn't post comments if you're not sure you know what you're talking about. You didn't know much about Ed Rendell either. I wonder if he's ready with bombs to break up protests at the convention?

Don’t Buy The Media Hype: Democrats Are More United Now Than In 2008

The Democratic Party has descended into madness. Democratic voters are split. The convention is going to be a disaster. Bernie Sanders may take his supporters and walk away, thus handing Trump the presidency.

These are the headlines the mainstream media has been peddling now for months. As the omega primary creeps up (with California and New Jersey up for grabs), it’s becoming evident that one candidate will walk away the nominee.

This, of course, has incensed members of the opposite candidate – and naturally so. And of course the media has pounced on these feelings, and has ran nonstop coverage in an effort to tear the party apart.

No matter how loud the pundits scream, and no matter how blistering the op-eds are, don’t buy into the hype. Because there is one truth that the media doesn’t want to report on:

The Democratic Party is more united now than it was in 2008 – and Obama won in a landslide.

The news that Bernie Sanders intends to keep fighting for the Democratic nomination to the end has me clutching my pearls and collapsing on my fainting couch. Where does he get the nerve to think he deserves the nomination? And doesn’t he worry he’ll do fatal damage to Hillary Clinton and thus deliver the White House to Donald Trump?

Oh, please. This is a democracy, and we’re not supposed to resolve our fiercest disagreements with bullets and bombs. We’re supposed to do it with wide-open debate and contested elections. Strident rhetoric and noisy protests are often unpleasant, but they’re an essential part of life in a free society.

Sanders, in my view, would be a disaster in the presidency. But the fact that Clinton is having so much trouble closing out her victory is evidence that he speaks for a lot of people in his party. And if he restores their hope in electoral democracy, good for him.

As for the harm he could inflict on Clinton, it’s more a symptom of her problems than a cause. She threw plenty of hard punches at Barack Obama in her 2008 campaign, none of which kept him from winning in November. If anything, the primary battle taught him and his advisers a lot about how to respond to Republican attacks. If Clinton loses to Trump, it won’t be because of unkind things Sanders said about her.

Just because the message will never be received does not mean it is not worth sending.

Just because Bernie had no chance of winning didn't mean he shouldn't have run. Nor does it mean he should QUIT before all of the primaries are over.

If you take that view, then no one should run the Boston Marathon because they won't win.

In fact, since you'll never be as good as the best in the world, why bother to do anything since there is always someone else that can beat you at whatever it is.

Hillary wasn't entitled to the nomination. It wasn't her "turn". Anyone had a right to run against her (ANYONE) and they can choose to run as long as they want until every primary has taken place.

It is the height of hubris to expect anyone to roll over and play dead so that Hillary or anyone else can win.

That's something that would come out of the gaping maw of Trump.

Instead of crucifying Bernie for being hard on Hillary, everyone should be grateful and lauding him, because it gives her an opportunity to practice for what Trump is going to throw at her. And he will not be as civil as Bernie. If she can't handle Bernie's attacks, she'll have no chance against Donnie the Liar.

And keep in mind, after the convention, Bernie can turn all of that talent against Trump. He would excel at it. And it would heal and unite the party to embrace Bernie and set him on Trump as an attack dog. Do you really want to waste that opportunity by beating on Bernie until he washes his hands of the Democrats and goes back to Vermont?

No one had a problem with that.People thought he had integrity. Now he's all anger and scorched earth and not caring if he causes Trump to win with his meanness and vitriol. His supporters are simply left versions of Trumps.Think about that. Hillary's voting matched Bernie's 93% in the Senate, when they served together, according to the NY Times; so does that mean Bernie is a Republican, too? Chuck Schumer and John Kerry also voted for the same war authorization that HRC did. Are they warmongers, too? Why is it only the woman who is blamed for things other politicians do?

Yes, I will blame hypocrites who only hold the woman accountable, if Trump wins.

It just occurred to me that there wasn't any of this fuss over the "rigging" of state conventions and super delegates in 2008. Is that because both candidates who were there to the last understood and accepted the Democratic Party rules as they stood at the time and still stand?

I think that caucuses should become a thing of the past.

Each state should hold a primary with the country segmented into four or five sections; each section would have a primary on a particular date, the date could rotate from election to election so, say the northeast would vote first in 2020 and the southeast would vote first in 2024, etc. The primary dates would occur about six weeks apart. It's still a protracted process but we are a large and very diverse population. All of the primaries would be over at least six weeks before the national conventions which would then focus much more on the platform and the coming general election. Personally I see nothing wrong with "super delegates"; it's a way of rewarding the party leadership in each state. Members of Congress, governors, leading legislators and state party chairpersons should have a major say in the choice of the party's nominee.
