Old Navy uses interracial relationship in new ad. The response is exactly what you would expect.

Courtesy of News Mic:

Old Navy was hoping to kick off a happy day of Sunday internet shopping for online consumers when it tweeted an advertisement featuring a smiling interracial family, along with a 30% off coupon. But rather than an immediate boom in sales, the retail giant saw an explosion of racist trolls in their Twitter mentions, lambasting the company for showing what they referred to as miscegenation: the mixing of races.

To it's credit Old Navy tried to be diplomatic and address their potential customer's concerns.
Trying to reason with racists. When will we ever learn that there is nothing more futile.

So is it any wonder that if these idiots are still this hung up over racism that they lose their minds over trans folk using the restrooms?

I had no idea what Miscegenation meant before today. There is a first for everything! I am white but my husband is Asian. What does that make me? A Miscegenator?

It depends on how we're currently classifying Asians. If he's from Turkey, the Levant or the MiddleEast, they used to be considered white but now probably Arab--unless they're from Iran or Kurdish then they might be white. If he's Russian and born in Asia he is probably white although he no doubt has Mongolian admixture. If he is from North India, he might have green eyes and look white but is considered South Asian. Confused? That's because racial categorization in arbitrary so wasting any time on it is stupid.

"...so wasting any time on it is stupid."

Exactly, so how about if we just refer to them as "people" if we feel a need to label them? We are all in the same boat, really.

what kind of life do these bigots live that such a low-impact advertisement should rouse them to such fury? It seems they don't have anything better to do than troll the internet looking for outrage. If true, then it'll be easy to keep them in a huff, won't it?

These are Cruz supporters trying to deflect from the fact that there is video footage of Ted's father was with Lee Harvey Oswald minutes before he was shot.

      Here's the ad:
Photo showing a teenage Bill Clinton shaking John F. Kennedy's hand in 1963 next to a photo of Ted Cruz's dad handing out "Pro-Castro Fair Play To Cuba" fliers next to Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963.

      Whose side are YOU on?

Your question has its own answer: bigots.

Anonymous 7:20 am - The alleged photo is of Oswald and others leafleting in New Orleans in August of 1963. Kennedy was shot in Dallas on November 22; Oswald was shot on November 24th.

So the notion that there is a picture of Mr. Cruz and Oswald "minutes before he (he who?) was shot" is impossible.

I can't stand Ted Cruz but let's try and get our facts straight before making breathless, outlandish statements. There's enough of that coming out of Trump.

      Video of this on Politico

“His father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald's being — you know, shot. I mean, the whole thing is ridiculous,” Trump said Tuesday during a phone interview with Fox News. “What is this, right prior to his being shot, and nobody even brings it up. They don't even talk about that. That was reported, and nobody talks about it.”

“I mean, what was he doing — what was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death? Before the shooting?” Trump continued. “It’s horrible.”

Anyone want to know the biggest difference between the US and Canada? This ad. We've had mixed race ads here for YEARS, and nobody blinks an eye. American racists have had 150 years to GROW UP and learn to be kind. They tout their so-called "Christian " faith but refuse to actually live their faith. Their hateful thoughts and behaviours unfortunately rub off on the reputations of all you good folks.
We Canucks are not perfect. We've treated out First Nations peoples badly (forcing kids into Christian residential schools, trying to take the "Indian" out of them) but we're really trying to reconcile and make amends for past racist behaviours. Recognizing it is the first step. The troglodytes who view mixed race ads, and bathrooms open to transgendered folk as bad will probably never change . With luck, they may eventually die out.

That's one thing I have noticed about Canada, is that people are people and even immigrants are welcomed and integrated. In the US, there's a kind of mindset that the country belongs to whites and blacks are tolerated, while there are not enough Native Americans to really even think about. Everyone else is only "allowed" here by the grace and kindness of the "Real Americans" (or "Normal Americans").

The thing is, most people with this mindset aren't intentionally being "bad", they've just never reflected on the situation.

Look up the Loving vs. Virginia case that was unanimously decided by the Supreme Court in 1967, striking down anti-miscegenation legislation in every state (The 16 states who had such laws were all in the South.)
As President Obama has pointed out, his parents would not have been allowed to marry when he was born if they'd lived in many U.S. states.

I don't need to look it up, my own parents had to go to Canada to get married in 1946.

The response I loved was all those people posting pics of their interracial families. I couldn't fail to notice that most of them looked like model families- healthy, happy and good-looking.

Old Navy knew exactly what they were doing, and what kind of reaction they would get. This is not their first rodeo. They got LOADS of attention, lots of clicks, and I would bet it had the exact effect they were looking for. Also, gorgeous photo. Well played, Old Navy, well played.

These haters are so behind the times, saying Old Navy is trying to sell inter-racial marriage. Don't they know that ad is depicting our reality these days. The are just an average American family to many. The haters need to open their eyes and grow up and see all that is good in America.

What would these folks have done during the era of the Benetton ads?

and why did both examples shown use the out-dated word 'miscegenation'? is that a thing with certain Southern Evangelicals, to this day?

Yes, old habits and hate die hard. If these bigots did a bit of research, I'm sure they're not "pure white" nor "Pure anything", somewhere in their lineage they have relatives out of their own race.

I'm so happy how big companies support diversity of all kinds. It's a trend I hope to see more and more of because it's what makes America strong.
