The Daily Beast accuses Bernie Sanders of pulling a "Sarah Palin" on Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Courtesy of the Daily Beast:

Bernie Sanders is trying to Sarah Palin the head of the Democratic Party—throwing his support behind the DNC chairwoman’s primary opponent in the latest escalation of the intraparty fracas gripping the left.

“Well, clearly, I favor her opponent,” Sanders told CNN on Sunday. “His views are much closer to mine than as to Wasserman Schultz’s.” He added that if elected president he would not support Debbie Wasserman Schultz to keep her post as chair.

Of course we have already covered this yesterday, but what has not been discussed is just how dedicated the Sanders' campaign is to defeating Schultz in the primary:

In a fundraising appeal asking his “sisters and brothers” to split a donation between Bernie’s presidential campaign and the congressional campaign of Tim Canova, Wasserman Schultz’s Democratic primary challenger. “Splitting a $2.70 contribution between Bernie 2016 and Tim Canova for Congress will help elect progressives up and down the ballot while sending an UNMISTAKABLE message about our political revolution’s commitment to electing candidates who share our values,” the fundraising email read.

To put this into perspective, this is a potential presidential nominee (Well not really but for the sake of argument.) requesting donations to assist in the defeat of a sitting Congresswoman from the party he wishes to represent in the general election.

That is stunning.

I mean regardless of how you feel about the DNC Chairwoman, and there are plenty of reasons to criticize her, trying to defeat her in a primary right before she hosts you at a national convention, for a party that you just recently joined, is more than a little....did I already use the word "stunning"....because that's what it is....stunning.

But we have seen something a little similar before haven't we?

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen party on party attacks this cycle.

After Speaker Paul Ryan blindsided presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump and his campaign by declining to endorse him following the exit of Sen. Ted Cruz from the race, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin hit the airwaves and called for conservatives to rally around his primary opponent.

Now in my defense this is not a comparison that I would have necessarily come up with, but now that it has been made......well it does kind of fit.

In fact the similarities between the Sanders' "movement" and the Tea Party, which caused so much strife and divisiveness within the Republican party, are becoming more and more defined.

Bernie is a better Democrat than some of the DINOS that claim they just luuuuuuv their party. Why shouldn't Bernie throw all of his support to DWS' opponent? He better represents what used to be the values of the Democratic party. And it wouldn't be the first time the party turned on one of their own. (Alan Grayson.)

The sooner she is out the better it will be for the party.

Let her go shill her pay day loan krap to the Republicans.

I think it's dumb to characterize Bernie's response as anything "Sarah Palin." Her actions are usually a desperate, grasping attempt to be relevant. She's old news. Bernie is still very relevant and very hot.

DWS is terrible as DNC chair and she should be gone. Both my sister and I are strong Hillary supporters and we can see it. Bernie's got good reasons to say the same. Let him say it. The worst part of Bernie staying in the race is all the whiners on Hillary's side. It'll all be fine by convention time. Respect him and his supporters. We need each other. It's about keeping our eyes on the prize.

Am I correct? So Sanders didn't endorse any Democrats up or down the line except for the three that endorsed him. That means all the money he received went directly into his campaign to fund things like his chartered 767 to Rome for his family. Now that he's a sore loser, Sanders is now endorsing and wants to see Democrat Chairman Debbie's opponent defeat her. Yup that is an angry old man.

I just had an epiphany. There is about to be a major dumb of opposition research about the Sanders and he is doing a trump-type distraction with these shenanigans. When the news breaks about his past, he'll say this is a hit job because of what he did to DWS.

      Delete
    3. I sort of agree about a possible news dump on Sanders. You can bet that HRC, & DJT (or their super-pacs) have plenty of oppositional research. No pundit or politician has spoken out against him, nor have there been negative ads, yet. BS telling his supporters that the polls are in his favor against DJT is disengenuous. If he were to be the Democratic nominee, the DJT team would crucify him. Despite his supporters, he would not be able to withstand the onslaught.

But, HRC? She has strength, thick skin, intelligence, and a mighty powerful resume.

About BS & DWS, I believe he is wrong to be outspoken because she IS the DNC Chair. The Party & members have been gracious to the non-Democratic BS. I don't care if he is supportive of her primary challenger, but do it quietly.

Since last year,I've donated several times to her challenger, Tim Canova. IMHO, DWS is a DINO. Take a look at her voting record, and how she finagled her way in as the DNC Chair. How I wish, wish, wish Howard Dean were still the chairman. His 50-state strategy he set up was wonderful & working. But then it was disbanded by DWS.

As I said here before, I was initially neutral between HRC & BS. I donated small sums to both of them. But once BS began to disrespect HRC, he lost any support I had for him. Saying she is unqualified was the last straw.

I know I've rattled on a lot here, but I want to say one more thing: Hillary Clinton is the singular adult running out of both primaries. She has been the only detailed candidate on the policies facing our nation. She doesn't whine, bully, blame others, look or act stupid, pick fights with foreign leaders. Out of all the candidates, she is the only one I trust with foreign affairs. Though so many say she's hawkish, my gut says she is not. She no more wants war than you or I do. She is no Cheney, nor a PNAC member.

Hopefully this will be over soon. I want to kick that crazy & dangerous DJT's ass to Timbuktue (sp?)

    4. Anonymous11:04 AM

It's not dumb, 9:51. It just explains how rigid he is and why he brings everything back to economic equality. Everything else is a distraction to him.

Sanders obviously supports the rights of women and minorities. But if you want to talk with him about those things, he gets annoyed and brings it back to the wealth gap.

For example, he called Trump's comment about putting women in jail for having abortions a "distraction" from "real issues." By "real issues," he means economic inequality.

While the wealth gap is extremely important, it doesn't explain everything all by itself. People want to discuss racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination. They don't want their concerns to be pushed aside as "distractions."

This is a big reason why I think Sanders would not make a good president.

But then to actively go after the head of the DNC to bring her down because he didn't get to change the rules is a bit much to take.

Bad News For Trump As Democrats Are Beginning To Come Home And Follow The Election

The mythical Trump bump may be nearing its end as a new poll shows that more Democrats are beginning to pay attention to the election.

A new Gallup poll shows a five point increase over the past month in the number of Democrats who are following the election.

Democrats have gained a net 6 points as the gap between the number of Republicans who are paying attention, and the number of Democrats who are paying attention has gone to from a net (+14) for the Republicans (48%-34%) in April to a net (+8) for the Republicans in May (47%-39%). It is no shock that the group that has been paying the most attention is Trump’s demographic of white males over age 50. There is a lot of room for growth with two key Democratic constituencies. Only 26% of millennial voters are currently paying close attention to the election, and 27% of non-white voters are paying close attention to the election.

The new Democratic constituencies that have grown during the Obama years typically don’t pay close attention until the general election approaches. Interestingly, the presence of Sen. Bernie Sanders has not caused millennials to pay greater attention to the election.

Democrats are beginning to come home.

Is Bernie Sanders doing any better than he was when voting began?

One of the questions at the heart of the Democratic presidential contest is whether the race has shifted in favor of Sen. Bernie Sanders over the past few months. There's no question that Sanders has improved against Hillary Clinton over the course of the past 12 months, narrowing her once-massive lead to single digits.

...The trend at the very end of that chart, though, contradicts one of Sanders's arguments to superdelegates, that he is the candidate who Democrats want as their nominee now, versus who they wanted three months ago. The idea is that his consistent state wins are a marker of a shift in the electorate that should be rewarded at the convention in Philadelphia. This isn't Sanders's only argument to superdelegates, but it's one that his campaign and his supporters have made.

DNC agrees to give Sanders greater influence over party platform

Bernie Sanders will be able to claim more sway over the convention in July after the Democratic National Committee partially gave in to his demand for more control over the committee that writes the party's platform.

While DNC rules allow the chair to pick all 15 members of the national convention drafting committee, the organization struck a deal with the two campaigns so that Hillary Clinton will pick six members, Sanders will pick five, and DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will appoint four, party officials confirmed.

It's short of what Sanders lobbied for — he wrote to Wasserman Schultz suggesting that each campaign pick seven members and that the final member be picked jointly by both campaigns — it's still progress for Sanders, who has had an especially rocky relationship with Wasserman Schultz.

His campaign recently accused the DNC chairwoman of actively trying to undermine his presidential bid from the get-go, while Wasserman Schultz has given Sanders grief for the chaos caused by his supporters at the Nevada state convention earlier this month.

The concession will give Sanders a greater say over the party's platform in July, which will give him a chance to inject his progressive policies in a more lasting way.

This same reality check will occur for Drumpf. Neither of these empty-headed dicks know a damned thing about government or they wouldn't demonstrate the behaviors they are shoving in our face everyday - thanks to the media bloat the "non-journalists" now provide in order to make money for their network. Sad state of affairs in our nation - and what a portion of the citizenry have sunk to in supporting two frauds.

Women always have to perform twice as well and be strong enough to stand up against the males in any industry. Not many can resist a tight ass and good legs, or at least in my experiences. Boobs too, of course are a draw as Drumpf reminds us frequently.

According to a recent report released by The National, Trump’s mother, Mary Anne Macleod, was actually a poor Scottish immigrant that came to the United States to make a better life for herself – a realization that stands in stark contrast to the story the business mogul has been telling.

It shouldn’t come as a shock that The Donald would hide the fact that his mother came to America with nothing but $50 in her purse. Why wouldn’t he want people to know that his mother came to the country dirt poor and became a multi-millionaire philanthropist, other than the fact that he has slammed immigrants all throughout his presidential campaign?

    http://addictinginfo.org/2016/05/23/the-shocking-detail-trump-doesnt-want-you-to-know-about-his-mother-video/

It turns out that Donald Trump’s mother was a poor Scottish immigrant who came to the U.S. seeking a better life — which contradicts the tale told by the billionaire real estate developer and presidential candidate.

Trump has said his mother, born Mary Anne Macleod, met his American-born father while on holiday — but a report Saturday by The National revealed she actually had emigrated legally to the U.S. May 11, 1930, one day after her 18th birthday, with just $50 in her purse.

Three of her sisters had already come to the U.S., and Trump’s mother lived on Long Island until marrying Fred Trump in January 1936.

John Oliver Offers Harsh Critique Of Dem Primary, Tells Us Who Should Be Winning (VIDEO)

...So, during his show, Oliver offers some pretty damned good analysis that should clear things up for people still upset about how things are turning out.

    Oliver states:

“Now for the record, Politifact looked into the charges of rigging in Nevada and found ‘no clear evidence the state party hijacked the process,’ and you can disagree with that, as I’m sure Bernie supporters will in the comments’ section below this video—alongside hurtful remarks about my personal appearance like, ‘Oh look, it’s British Millhouse…’ But the larger point Politifact made regarding Nevada, that I think everyone can agree with, is that ‘the arcane party structures don’t reflect how most people assume presidential selection works,’ and that in itself is a huge problem. Any competition should have clear rules. You don’t get to the end of a football game and say, ‘OK, who found the most eggs?’”

    He later added:

“Sanders supporters might argue that doesn’t include all caucus votes, but when The Washington Post estimated the rest, they found that [Hillary] would still lead by 2.9 million votes, and even if you multiply all those estimated caucus votes by 7 to account for lower turnouts, even if you give Bernie a bonus of 10,000 extra votes in every state that’s voted so far, and even if you tack on an extra 100,000 votes just for shits and giggles, she’s still comfortably ahead.”

Bernie doesn't want to follow the rules now and plays like he didn't know what they were in the beginning. That is his fault and not the Democratic party - the rules were set.

He's nothing more than a trouble maker that will not be nominated for POTUS. Hillary Clinton has fairly beaten him and will be our next POTUS.

Hillary Clinton will make an outstanding POTUS. There are no Republicans that have the experience she would bring to the office and Bernie assuredly doesn't have the smarts or experience. He's known in U.S. Congress (of which he's been a member for many years) as someone who has done nothing outstanding during his long tenure (there should be limits - this is a good case and point for them!).

Bernie doesn't appear to be very sharp, repeats the same things over and over and over again in his speeches and doesn't seem to have the temperament. Kind of like Donald Trump!!

Hillary knew the rules when she signed on. Or is she too dumb to understand the rules?
Before starting in her role as Secretary of State, Hillary had to read and sign this agreement NDA Agreement:
Intending to be legally bound, I hereby accept the obligations contained in this Agreement in consideration of my being granted access to classified information. As used in this Agreement, classified information is marked or unmarked classified information, including oral communications, that is classified under the standards of Executive Order 12958, or under any other Executive order or statute that prohibits the unauthorized disclosure of information in the interest of national security; and unclassified information that meets the standards for classification and is in the process of a classification determination as provided in Sections 1.1. 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4(e) of Executive Order 12958, or under any other Executive order or statute that requires protection for such information in the interest of national security. I understand and accept that by being granted access to classified information, special confidence and trust shall be placed in me by the United States Government.
...I understand that if I am uncertain about the classification status of information, I am required to confirm from an authorized official that the information is unclassified before I may disclose it...
...4. I have been advised that any breach of this Agreement may result in the termination of any security clearances..."

For printing verbatim the NDA Agreement that Hillary ostensibly read, and then signed?
Also it appears she didn't sign Form OF-109 when she left the State Dept.
“We have reviewed Secretary Clinton’s official personnel file and administrative files and do not have any record of her signing the” form, State spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters at a regular briefing."

      Why does that mean anything?
" Employees leaving the State Department are required to sign the form, which says the employee turned over all official records before leaving. If Clinton signed the OF-109 form, some are saying she might have committed a felony given that she admitted to deleting 31,000 emails she deemed “personal.”

It's an interesting comparison, Bernie and Sarah. Sarah was the darling of the Republican party when she was picked by the neo-con's to be McCain's VP. Then she opened her mouth and it was pretty clear that they had made the wrong choice. They didn't have much to work with, but Sarah blamed the Republicans for her own failings. She lined up with Glenn Beck and the Tea Party as an in-your-face kind of response to the GOP. They couldn't have turned Sarah into a decent candidate if they had all year to work with her, but she turned on them as if her failings were their fault.

Bernie was never a Democrat. He voted with the Democrats, but he always declared himself as an Independent Socialist. It is kind of hard to expect the Democrats to be backing Bernie when they have a real Democrat who has been elected to office as a Democratic senator and who has been a party player for years. Bill Clinton is also a good party player. He campaigned with Barack Obama.

When the party plays politics, that's their job. It is also their job to make sure that the down ticket races are helped when they support their presidential candidate. Hillary is already raising money for key senate races where the Republican senator is in trouble. She could boost the Democratic challenger's chances in those races. Bernie has not shown that same kind of down ticket Democratic party support. As for Palin's picks of down ticket candidates to support, she does not support Republican candidates. She picks the ones who are as far out there in the right wing as possible. (Is she getting emails from the Koch brothers?)

NRA Convention: Dwindling Membership, Desperate Rhetoric

Any doubts about whether the NRA is feeling the pressure of an increasingly powerful gun violence prevention movement can be quelled by reading Wayne LaPierre’s latest keynote rant. While never the most coherent thinker, this year’s stream-of-warped-consciousness epic hate poem, showed LaPierre giving up all pretense and appealing directly to his audience’s worst fears, deepest prejudices and festering anger. Here’s why:

For years the National Rifle Association has maintained its stranglehold on national politics by convincing politicians that it is politically invincible. But now there is fresh evidence — actual numbers — that show the NRA is increasingly feeling the heat of Americans’ shifting attitudes about gun violence prevention. This is a big deal.

They used to have money, for lobbying. But that came mostly from the industry, not dues. Now their membership is flagging the industry isn't putting as much money into them. When the money goes, so goes their power.

It was really all smoke and mirrors anyway. Now the numbers and this article shows that the emperor has no clothes. He probably only had a jockstrap to begin with.

  30. I'm gonna repeat a post I made on an earlier thread because it fits here:

"I live in Debbie's district now (used to be in Frederica Wilson's district before the lines were redrawn).

I'm a bit disconcerted that Canova wants to take out a dem who is sitting in one of the safest FL seats for dems. If we want anything to get done in congress, we need more Ds in the House, not replacing one D for another. And while you can certainly bring up this or that vote where DWS voted more the R side, her overall record has been overwhelmingly D party line.

I also am concerned that he moved here in (apparently) 2012 and did not run for city council or state senator or representative (God knows the FL legislature could use a guy like him!) before leaping into a U.S. house run.

What I see from my point of view is a guy moving from California, who doesn't know Florida or South Florida, and moves into literally my town, not to participate in the betterment of his local community but to 'pick off' my U.S. representative, and that doesn't sit well with me, despite any criticisms you - or I - might have about that representative."

And earlier this morning I saw posters on a Crooks & Liars thread say stuff like "I just made a donation to Canova. And I don't even live in Florida!"

Now, I'm not naive enough to suppose DWS is not getting some money from out of state or out of area, but I am now convinced that the Bernie-type platform of "I pledge to not take money from PACs" is because they can fill the - let's face it, needed - coffers by soliciting individual donations from outside the voting area.

When it's your district that is the target of this, trust me, you will not like it one bit.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous5:28 PM

You say it's a safe Dem seat. So no matter what happens, it will stay Dem, right?

You also say that you are aware of DWS failure to vote the Dem party line.

Am I to understand then you'd rather have the DINO you know than someone that might better represent the people? Someone who just might be a better Democrat?

I'm not real big on "the devil you know".

And DWS isn't just representing you. She's in charge of the DNC and that's everyone.

If you think she's only getting campaign donations from the locals, think again. She is big into Wall St. and corporations. Not to mention the kick backs she's getting from Hillary due to that little donation scam they're running.

      Delete
    2. 5:28,

If you want a new DNC chair, that is something we can discuss, but if you want to take out my current representative, that's another story.

They are not mutually exclusive. DWS can be my representative while not being the chair of your/our DNC.

    1. That is absolutely fair enough, but the differences in the details between the two situations makes it impossible to compare on an absolute basis (i.e. well if it was wrong when she did it, it is wrong that he did, or if it was OK when she did it, it's OK if he does it). It's an apples vs. bananas kinda comparison.

When Clinton ran, she was 1) not trying to actively de-seat a sitting senator/representative; 2) expected to have to win a dem primary and then; 3) expected to have to win a general election against a republican candidate.

Canova did not run against DWS in 2014 and only announced he was running against her sometime shortly before 1/19/16, by which time he expected she would not have a Republican challenger (as she had had in 2014 - and 2012, and 2010). It looks like he waited until DWS was uncontested to run, so he would not have to raise money for a general election - very, very different from the Hillary analogy.

.... But the Sanders campaign doesn't seem to care. "While Mr. Sanders says he does not want Mr. Trump to win in November, his advisers and allies say he is willing to do some harm to Mrs. Clinton in the shorter term if it means he can capture a majority of the 475 pledged delegates at stake in California and arrive at the Philadelphia convention with maximum political power," reports the New York Times on the campaign's newest strategy — a scorched-earth run to the finish.

If this surprises you, you evidently have no idea what Bernie Sander's Revolution is all about. He has said from day one that Americans need to hold their politicians accountable. Sanders has never said "We need to elect democrats." He has always said "We need to elect politicians who represent us, not the 1%" and Debbie represents the 1%.
