The same guy who brought us Sarah Palin in 2008 is now vetting possible VP choices for Donald Trump. No I am not kidding.

What could go wrong?
Courtesy of the International Business Times:

They say people learn from their mistakes, so perhaps A.B. Culvahouse Jr. learned from his. The 67-year-old Washington insider -- who helped vet Sarah Palin before she became Republican presidential nominee John McCain's running mate in 2008 -- will now head the team that will screen vice presidential candidates for presumptive 2016 GOP nominee Donald Trump.

Culvahouse, a former counsel to the late Republican President Ronald Reagan, was among those taking criticism for the choice of Palin, the former Alaska governor who many critics blame for McCain's loss to then-Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in the race for the White House eight years ago

Bloomberg reported Wednesday that Culvahouse met with Trump at his Trump Tower headquarters in New York City. While Trump has said he would welcome VP advice from a number of people, including his former campaign rival Ben Carson, lawyer Culvahouse has the qualifications to dig into any vice presidential hopeful’s background.

Oh yeah, and we all know how good Culvahouse is at digging into a VP candidate's background, don't we Senator McCain?

Once again I am at the point where I am not sure if we should laugh or cry.

Though it is hard to imagine anything worse than having Donald Trump as our Reality Star-in-Chief, a VP hand picked by Culvahouse might prove that statement ultimately naive.

You know I keep pinching myself, but for some reason I just cannot seem to wake myself up from this particular nightmare.

...While Mr. Sanders says he does not want Mr. Trump to win in November, his advisers and allies say he is willing to do some harm to Mrs. Clinton in the shorter term if it means he can capture a majority of the 475 pledged delegates at stake in California and arrive at the Philadelphia convention with maximum political power.

Tad Devine, a senior adviser to Mr. Sanders, said the campaign did not think its attacks would help Mr. Trump in the long run, but added that the senator’s team was “not thinking about” the possibility that they could help derail Mrs. Clinton from becoming the first woman elected president.

Much of this is consistent with what I hear myself which is that this is being driven and fueled by Sanders himself, with two or three of his closest advisors in tow.

They also seem to be making it up as they go along.

You're betraying your ignorance on this.

Do a little research and you will find that Culvahouse rated Sarah Palin at "high risk high reward".

Culvahouse must be one mighty fine vetter if he can choose someone without so much as an Associates degree as a likely candidate for VP. What worked for a sparse population in AK just doesn't fly with the rest of the U.S.

He must have limited his search base to one of those online sites for $39. Still wouldn't have yielded much with her long standing policy of having her own and her family's records sealed. Or maybe he was just 'drunk-vetting' and tired the day he googled her FB page and called it a day.

Whatever he thought of her 'that' day was certainly turned upside down by the next 2,738 days of her constant yammering about everything contrary to reasonable thought and ideals.

This should eliminate Palin as a VP pick this time around. If you read Culvahouse's comments closely, it's clear he realizes what a disastrous mistake Senator McCain made in picking Palin in 2008. No way he signs off on her again.

  6. Anonymous8:57 AM

Culvahouse has already thoroughly vetted Sarah Palin and her family in 2008. We hope since Donald picked Culvahouse to vet his vp picks that's a sign Sarah Palin will be picked again. Sarah is a veteran, she has done this before and will help Donald defeat Bernie Sanders.

Remember back to 2008 and verify the facts!

Sarah Palin was not vetted properly, or in depth! So much came out about her that was detrimental AFTER she was named to the ticket w/McCain!

They lost to President Obama after her racists speeches! Plus, she turned out to be an idiot when it came to the first interviews! Thereafter, McCain sat next to her in an interview and answered questions directed at her!

She had a big part in their losing the race. And, thank God they did!

      What about Sarah?
The walls of A.B. Culvahouse Jr.’s office are the only remarkable things in it. For a corner perch on the tenth floor of a modern downtown DC building, the space is understated. Surely the man who occupies it—a former White House counsel and the chairman of the international law firm O’Melveny & Myers—deserves something larger and nicer.

But the mementos on the walls are impressive. One photo shows Culvahouse during his first day on the job at the White House with President Ronald Reagan. Another shows him in the Oval Office with Reagan, Vice President George H.W. Bush, and Reagan chief of staff Howard Baker. Culvahouse says he’s not supposed to have that one—it’s an original print of the meeting that took place the day former national-security adviser John Poindexter testified about his role in the Iran-Contra affair.

There are framed thank-you notes from some of the high-profile figures Culvahouse has helped through vetting and confirmation processes, an area that has become a specialty of his since he left the White House. Supreme Court justice David Souter, now retired, sent along his words of appreciation after he was confirmed to the high court with Culvahouse’s assistance. Current Defense Secretary Robert Gates wrote a thank-you after Culvahouse helped Gates become George H.W. Bush’s CIA director.

There is, however, a notable omission.

Few people outside the Beltway had heard of Culvahouse before the 2008 presidential election, when the Republican nominee, Arizona senator John McCain, asked him to vet his vice-presidential contenders. There isn’t a shred of evidence on the walls that would indicate the role Culvahouse played in launching the national career of McCain’s choice, Alaska governor turned queen of the Tea Party Sarah Palin.

Dying GOP Senator Apologizes to Muslims for Donald Trump

Bob Bennett spent his last days letting Muslims know how sorry he was that an Islamophobe had become his party’s all-but-certain nominee.

...Instead, with a slight slurring in his words, Bennett drew them close to express a dying wish: “Are there any Muslims in the hospital?” he asked.

“I’d love to go up to every single one of them to thank them for being in this country, and apologize to them on behalf of the Republican Party for Donald Trump,” Bennett told his wife and son, both of whom relayed this story to The Daily Beast.

The rise of Donald Trump had appalled the three-term Utah senator, a Republican who fell victim to the tea-party wave of the 2010 midterms. His vote for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, had alienated many conservative activists in his state, who chose lawyer Mike Lee as the GOP nominee for Senate instead.

But as Bennett reflected on his life and legacy in mid-April, following the stroke, he wasn’t focused on the race that ended his political career. Instead, he brought up the issue of Muslims in America—over and over again.

He mentioned it briefly in a hospital interview with the Deseret News, a Utah news outlet. “There’s a lot of Muslims here in this area. I’m glad they’re here,” the former senator told the newspaper in April, describing them as “wonderful.”

“In the last days of his life this was an issue that was pressing in his mind… disgust for Donald Trump’s xenophobia,” Jim Bennett said. “At the end of his life he was preoccupied with getting things done that he had felt was left undone.”

Maryland Trump delegate indicted after ATF agents find explosives, machine gun and child porn

A delegate for Donald Trump from Charles County, Maryland was indicted this week on charges related to illegal transport of explosives, possession of a machine gun and child pornography.

In a press release on Thursday, the U.S. Department of Justice said that ATF agents began investigating 30-year-old Caleb Andrew Bailey after postal inspectors discovered a package with .50 caliber cartridges with M48A1 incendiary projectiles and other ammunition with explosive projectiles.

On May 5, law enforcement executed a search warrant “at adjoining properties associated with Bailey, including his residence, and seized a machine gun,” according to the statement.

Court documents allege that Bailey also used a minor to produce child pornography, and that child pornography was found in his possession.

Bailey faces over 50 years in prison if found guilty of all charges.

New GOP talking point to “defend” Trump: He’s just BS-ing to bamboozle the yahoos of our base

Republicans are defending their support of Trump by arguing that he doesn't mean the things he says
