This is a thing that Meghan McCain actually said.

Now most of you are undoubtedly already realizing how unbelievably ignorant this statement is, but for those among you who are a little slow off the mark let Salon point out the obvious:

The myopia here is staggering. Although she didn’t respond, I asked Meghan if she remembers an obscure, half-forgotten figure named Sarah Palin? I asked because, in so many ways, there is no Trump without Palin. Palin was Trump before Trump. The rambling incoherence, the vacuousness, the reality TV theatrics, the ghastly marriage of ignorance and confidence – Palin brought this to national politics long before Trump did.

And it was Meghan’s father, John McCain, who foisted this catastrophe upon the country.

It was the bottomless cynicism of McCain, the once serious Senator from Arizona, who helped pave the way for Trump. He sold his soul to the conservative media-industrial complex the day he choose that buffoonish celebrity as his running mate, a woman he knew was woefully unprepared for the job. And he choose her precisely because of her potential celebrity, because she polled well with evangelicals and because she was the darling of right-wing media.

Like Trump, Palin had no governing philosophy, no vision, and lacked a basic understanding of political life. But she was greeted as a rock star by conservative pundits, who were convinced they could sell her to the base. Trump no doubt noticed this, and took from 2008 an obvious lesson: Win the headlines and Republican primary voters will follow.

Yep. "There is no Trump without Palin," that is the unavoidable truth.

And for the rest of his life John McCain will have to live with that simple fact.

Perhaps THAT is why Donald Trump gave a shout out to Palin during his Indiana victory speech. Because he was acknowledging that she blazed his pathway to the nomination.

And now I feel a little responsible.

Here I was so busy making sure that Palin herself would never be a viable candidate for the White House that I forgot to pay close enough attention to the Palin clones.

Courtview on May 5. Dakota files for Sailor name change to Palin Meyer. Also, for doubters, note the DOB of 12/23. Would they file a false birthday?

    1. Oooo. That's gonna hurt.

I think the Palins have been hoist by their own petard. The only way to stop Meyer is to admit he's not the father.

    2. Anonymous3:28 PM

Yes, of course they would "file a false birthday".
      Are you serious?
That would be among the Palin's smaller lies.

    3. Anonymous3:40 PM

Yes, they would. If she's told Dakota that is the DOB, that's what he wrote. Bet he hasn't seen her birth certificate.

    4. Anonymous3:44 PM

Good for Dakota! He's smarter than I thought and he's not afraid of the Palins which is a great pleasure to watch!

We are going to see more and more of this type action against the white trash family from small town Wasilla as time moves on. All their crap and lies will be more and more exposed!

    5. Anonymous4:13 PM

I don't know if this is going to be a problem with the Palins ... Palin Meyer ... first we would need to know what the benefits of being a child of a MOH are to see what
      is in it for ME!

    6. Anonymous5:39 PM

The only way that Bristol Palin can prove Sailor's birth date is with a certified copy of her birth certificate. Don't hold your breath. How many women in Wasilla have given birth to 4 babies, but have never been married to any of the fathers?

    7. LOL. Just wait until Bristol steps so far outta line he sues her for full custody as an unfit mother. Man, I can't wait.

  2. Anonymous2:11 PM

Palin is also directly responsible for the not so subtle dog whistle racism she's spewed since '08.

"... As September wore on, the dog whistling escalated to full-throated accuastions: Risky! Elitist! Not proud of America! Dangerous! Dishonorable! Catastrophic harm! Al Qaeda! Domestic terrorist! Terrorist! Terrorist!

With these words, the McCain-Palin ticket gave their crowds implicit permission to engage in the same. Ordinary stump patriotism quickly disintegrated into a pack mentality, as their rally mobs began shouting, with a menacing glee, racial epithets and words such as: He’s a terrorist! Traitor! Treason! He’s a socialist! A communist! A commie faggot! Barack Hussein Obama! A one-man terrorist cell! A Muslim! An Arab! Osama bin Lyin! Bomb Obama! Off with his head! Kill him!"

The Republicans like their candidates dumb. The dumber the better I guess.

At some point, it stops being left vs right, blue vs red and Democrat vs Republican. What is at stake in this election is the future of the United States of America as we know it. Kudos to all the Republicans who put their country before their party.

    1. Anonymous3:39 PM

Do you know one? I hear them, but I bet they all push the button for Trump.

  4. Anonymous2:13 PM

And what the hell are these conservative principles anyway....apart from tax cuts for the rich?

    1. Anonymous3:47 PM

      Every embryo has voting rights.
Women are only good for breeding, and only good looking ones.
Women do not need an education (my MIL was on this kick 40 years ago...AARGH)
Women should bow to their masters
Children need to be spanked if they don't memorize their Bible verses.
      Minorities should not vote
Immigrants no welcome in white America
Higher education is 'too liberal,' so cut all funding for colleges. Only rich white males need a college education
The EPA needs to go-how dare they regulate corporations to secure clean water and air?
The IRS is full of anti-Christian bigots. Who needs 'em?
America is at war with the church-so we must let the CHURCH run the country-just like England in 1660.
ISIS is coming to chop off our heads: bomb every nation with an I in its name.

  7. Anonymous2:20 PM

Obviously NOT her dad she was alluding to. Jeez, wonder who she was talking about.

    1. I believe the point is the hypocrisy of the statement she made.

    2. Anonymous3:53 PM

      Thanks. ;)

  8. Anonymous2:25 PM

If Meghan McCain didn't have an influential father and a wealthy mother she'd probably be driving a pink cadillac and selling makeup door to door. I'm pretty sure she doesn't have anything to say that is worth remembering.

    1. She would never be a good enough saleswoman to earn the Pink Caddy!

    2. Anonymous4:44 PM

She's not very smart so I predict she'd be swinging those giant fun bags around a pole somewhere.

  9. Anonymous2:46 PM

Te vitriol all started with Palin so Meghan can thank her own Daddy. FU_K MCCAIN
Maybe she should remember the video clips of people at Palin rallies cheering out "KILL HIM!" about President Obama, then Senator Obama.

    1. Anonymous3:14 PM

There are people who've joked about killing republicans. And I've seen No clips. It's impossible to discern comments at rallies where 20000 gather. Palin Hassan's nice things about Obama the man. That is on video.

    2. Anonymous3:17 PM

      Sarah wouldn't condone that.

What are your thoughts on the comedians in 08 saying she hoped Sarah would get gang raped in Harlem? That was at the beginning of the campaign. The media is full of assholes. There are no classier people than politicians and their families. Critics on both sides are nasty.

Thing is, people at c4p don't write vile things like people here.

    3. Anonymous4:08 PM

      @ 3:17pm
Palin DID condone that or the people would have been removed from her rally.
BTW that comedian said Sarah should get a train ( which is not rape but consensual sex with more than one partner). She might enjoy it since Todd only goes to his prostitutes.

    4. Anonymous4:43 PM

Politicians are some of the worst people in the world. One has to hold her nose to vote for ANY of them, but vote for someone we must. But damn, they are greedy shysters, every single one of them, concerned only with how their office will propel their career and sell some books.

The only people the run for office are career narcissists that think that they know better than the average person how things should be run, when many of them are actually not prepared for the job when they are elected.

It's such a sorry state of affairs.

    5. Anonymous5:31 PM

3:17 PM You are welcome to go back to c4p.

    6. Anonymous7:35 PM

      1. c4p have horrific names for michelle Obama and Hillary and Elizabeth warren and MORE. THEY are also VILE to each other and anyone they don't agree with

      2. Why all the comments about how bad politicians are? Oh trying to get out ahead of the fact skank ain't running for nor being appointed to any office

      3. Can't wait for the next sarahpac fling-word is it has gone busy-no money at all-good times!

  10. Anonymous2:50 PM

I read where John McCain was lamenting Trump's nomination because it hurts his re-election chances

That's called karma, buddy. You created $arah Palin. And $arah created Trump.

When future generations learn about you, you will be known as the one-time war hero who was desperate to win a hopeless election, that you introduced a horrible, horrible cancer on this country.

People will remember what you've done to this country by giving $arah a voice...long before they remember your brave service in the military

    And you deserve that legacy.

    1. Anonymous3:15 PM

If lumpy little Johnny Mac loses his seat in Arizona, will Meghan still have a job?

    2. Anonymous5:28 PM

McCain's 'relationship' with Lowell Bud Paxson's lobbyist(Vicki Iseman) is what forced him to select Sarah Palin as VP candidate. Why do you think that Trig's name includes Paxson, and Van? Lowell Paxson blackmailed McCain, and Thomas Van Flein was the attorney who assisted in the Trig hoax. Their scheme to get an Evangelical puppet(Palin) onto McCain's ticket actually caused McCain to lose.

    3. Anonymous8:32 PM

Who would ever name a kid over people that ascended her into the political foray, let alone first name of his disability? An effing lunatic, that's who, and she's not even his mother.

  11. I object to calling Palin a "buffoonish celebrity."

That's an insult to buffoons everywhere.

  12. Anonymous3:01 PM

OT can you verify if this is true? I submitted it to Snopes, just wondering if anyone else has seen this.

  13. Anonymous3:07 PM

People who think Palin changed politics are incredibly ignorant.

    1. Anonymous3:16 PM

      Care to elaborate?

    2. Anonymous3:37 PM

So she didn't have a thing to do with the rise of reality star Trump? Not a thing? Have you got stock in her bridge?

    3. Anonymous4:16 PM

She didn't change politics; she just used to be better at demagoguery.

    4. Anita Winecooler6:19 PM

She can't change her panties, and people think she changed politics?

  14. Anonymous3:12 PM

The only thing palin has proven is democrats are hypocritical. She was not new to politics. Meaning she brought nothing new but a fresh unfiltered voice which this country needs because no one else is real. No one except Bernie.

Democrats are condemning Bernie for being too idealistic when they just spent 8 years defending socialism under the false pretense Obama is socialist. Turns out obama is part of the problem like Hillary.

Imagine a republican treating any democrat the crass, libelous way Palin was treated. Imagine someone on the right stalking a persons innocent hometown and residents, creating propaganda and fiction. Democrats would flip the same way you all flip when someone has the audacity to point out how dangerous Hilary's real record is. You'd flip ifademocrats innocent extended family members were harassed and libeled. You'd flip if someone did an Indepth interview with Chelsea's nannies.

    1. Anonymous4:04 PM

Being hypocritical is Bernie thinking it's okay to send toxic waste from the NE to Texas. Being hypocritical is Bernie just this week touting how wonderful big coal is. Take off your blindfold before trying to hold up Bernie's so-called ethics. BTW where are his tax returns? Or did your "ethical" Bernie just lie about releasing them? But thanks for proving my theory that Bernie Bros are just stupid Palin fans.

    2. Anonymous4:07 PM

Here is a fun little clip from an old Huffington Post article.
Also, the man responsible for vetting Palin was A B Culvahouse...lots of info on his vetting on the internet.

If the Palins had gone home and regrouped after 2008, and $arah actually educated herself in what she did obviously did not know, it would have been one thing, but OH NO. Out come the claws.

They voluntarily made themselves into public figures, only to cement the fact that they are as dysfunctional and stupid as they come and then some!

I've said it many times, and will again. As long as big shot $arah has a voice in the political realm, I'll say any damned thing I want to as a voting citizen.

That you don't like it is YOUR problem, and theirs that they're ridiculed.

    5. Anonymous5:04 PM

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

  15. Anonymous3:25 PM

It is possible that McCain vetted Palin so poorly that he didn't even know she was "pregnant". I can't recall the exact time-line of her announcing her details, but I have a copy of the Wall Street Journal front section (somewhere), and I distinctly remember that no mention of any Palin being pregnant was included in the announcement day-after article regarding her name being picked for VP. So, McCain may've been the first "recorded" victim of the Palin curse.
    Poor fellow.

    1. Anonymous4:25 PM

Trig was presented to the world in April, so Sarah Palin wasn't even pretending to be pregnant anymore when she was tapped for VP.

    2. Anonymous7:03 PM

Remember little gold crown on trig birth announcement?? VP was already in the works.

    3. I believe TriG was born before the announcement.

It was Bristol they didn't know what pregnant. Or at least, didn't tell McCain Bristol was pregnant. It came out around the time of the Convention, which is why Levi was with them. They were a "couple" and engaged until McCain/Palin lost. Then they broke up.

  16. Anonymous3:38 PM

Sarah Palin is a proven idiot, liar and fraud!

She was not vetted properly by John McCain, who will now have her name attached to him and his family members, for the rest of their lives! This being so whether they like it or not.

She is their kiss of death!!!

    1. Anonymous4:15 PM

And thus, we now have Trumpenstein.

    2. Anonymous4:39 PM

One of the only places that I know that continued to cover Palin was this blog. There hasn't been a Palin post, covering any of them, and all of them, for at least two weeks. I'm thinking the family is finally done and over, which this Alaskan is happy to see.

    3. Anonymous6:23 PM

4:39 I was noticing same lack of Palin stuff here lately.

But my thoughts were 1) Must be really bad to be Sara and have her long-time biggest sure-thing-content blog (defunk as it is) NOT covering her. How she has fallen.

Also 2)Usually to get attention she goes wacko in public, but she's not. Wonder who's got her clamped down and how the heck is she managing to NOT be wacko and stay away from media.

    1. Anonymous4:21 PM

      Thank you!

  21. I think you are giving McCain too much credit. He's not that smart... to have figured all that out ahead of time. Maybe he was just looking for an energetic pretty face to liven up his campaign. But, maybe so.

    1. Anita Winecooler6:28 PM

He was under the impression that no one would expect a female, and automatically vote for him. He had better odds picking Mary Matalin or Michelle Bachman.

  22. Anita Winecooler4:34 PM

Didn't she admit to being in a stupor with the sheets pulled over her head the whole time daddy warbucks was palling around with Palin? She's so dirty sexy hypocritical, but at least she can write in complete sentences and doesn't pretend to be anything more or less than she is, the rich spoiled brat whose daddy has a famous last name, Senator John McCain Palin.

  23. Anonymous5:42 PM

Is it true that Jordan Loewe is pregnant? Is ti Track's, or is it her ex-boyfriend's? What a picture of dysfunction it is in Wasilla.

  24. Anonymous6:20 PM

Oh, I misread it. I thought she WAS talking about Sara.

So who is she referring to?

Also, too I have always felt that if we had not had Sara as VP candidate, we would not have Trump.

She "made it OK" to be racist, vulgar and crazy in public and visible on the campaign trail.

I am thankful that it is Trump and not Sara, who is too lazy to run a campaign. They would not have criticized Sara the way they do Trump.

They would have been called out as sexist to speak any ill of her, the way it was in 2008.

So is that some form a reverse-sexism happening with Trump?

I'd love to hear him complain that he was Sara he wouldn't be getting targeted for what he said and how he acted.

  25. Obviously Meghan didn't talk to her father, who said today that he would support the party's nominee. This means he will vote for the man who called him a loser for being a POW. So, not only did he give us Palin, he is revealing his utter lack of a moral core just so he can keep his job at age 79. What a humiliating end.

While I agree with the gist of the Salon article quoted above, I take some exception to their description of John McCain as the "once serious senator." John McCain was heavily implicated in the Keating scandal (something which should have finished his political career early on) and has featured himself since primarily as an opportunist and television gadfly. Not terribly intelligent either. His only quality is that he has occasionally sided with his Democratic colleagues, but only very rarely since President Obama's election and not at all since 2012. I would describe him as one of the Senate's more "media hungry" members.
