Are you ready? Say it with me, "President Hillary Clinton."

This from CNN:

So many girls for so long were told -- overtly and subtly -- what they could and could not be. Housewives? Yes. Teachers? Sure. President? Unlikely.

They were told to not express their opinions too strongly -- it's not polite. To not challenge a man -- it's not ladylike.

For those girls -- many of them now mothers with daughters of their own -- what happened Tuesday night was more than a political triumph.

Regardless of party persuasion, Hillary Clinton's victory is the definition of historic: She became the first female presidential nominee of a major political party.

Her chances of becoming president -- the first woman head of state in America's 238-year history -- are now much closer to reality.

I predict her chances of winning the Presidency are right around 100% personally.

I think once Hills unleashes her surrogates, which will include the likes of Bill Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, and of course President Obama, they will chew Donald Trump and spit him out.

And once it really sets in for the largest voting block in the country, the women, that this election will be just as historic for them as the 2008 election was for African Americans, I imagine they will flock to their polling places to take their place in history.

And Hillary understands that as well.

Take a look at this recently released advertisement:

I'm just a guy but I certainly feel a surge of pride that my daughter will soon realize that NO door is closed to her, and that she can now be literally anything that she wants in life.

You know on the day that my daughter was born I promised to work hard to make a better world for her.

Well here it is, though to honest I cannot take much credit. But by gosh I did what I could.

Hilary would be wise to offer Bernie Sanders the VP slot and let him hire warren to go to wallstreet. He has millions of voters? and ya best not ignore them. They are serious young people which is the future. Be Wise Demos.

And serious old people, too! I and the hubby are late middle aged, peaceniks from the 70's, so-called 'BernieBros'.

It's not about the man, it's about the movement, or it always was to us.
You think we DON'T want a lady pres? WE WOULD LOVE IT. But we want that lady candidate to want money out of politics, to not be cozy with Wall Street and bankers who wrecked our economy and ruined our 401k's, to not take NO on a single-payer health system, and to stop these needless $$$wars that kill so many innocent people and wreck the lives of the survivors.

I don't trust millionaires. A millionaire has nothing in common with us common working types. We just want enough to get by, pay our bills, and maybe have enough left over to help someone else out when they need it.

I do NOT like it that working for the legislature has become a way to enrich one's bank account. Anyone can Google any Congress person's $$worth before and after their career in Congress. It has become a way to get rich and screw over the American people, who are getting poorer.

I'd rather pay out more of my taxes to educate our young people and have them get good regular health care than to pay for some bullshit war with people I never even met, who never insulted me.

      I believe in peace.

NO! NO! NO! Hillary would NOT be wise to choose Bernie as her VP. Bernie is hostile towards her, and he is hostile towards the Democratic party. I hear he is not even a Democrat, but an Independent.

Hillary must choose a Democrat for her running mate. Not a hostile Independent.

Oh, don't be silly. A million dollars is not that much nowadays. Many people can be millionaires just by making the right life choices and living within their means.

Would your 'sense of history' been so inspired if Carly Fiorina won the Republican nomination?

Making gender a primary reason to vote for a candidate is a ridiculous premise.

Had the first woman nominee arisen more organically, ala 2008 Obama, it would mean more. However, 'Hills' has been touted as inevitable for ten years now. It was just a matter of time, so the 'making history' meme doesn't resonate with a lot of people in the way it might have for another candidate.

Carly Fiorina doesn't have a fraction of the qualifications that Hillary Clinton has. Hillary is the most prepared person to ever be on the ballot for President of the United States. And, it is a big deal that she is the Democratic candidate since this country needs her to help us get out of the 1950's that the gop and their evangelical stooges are trying so desparately to force on us. The fact that Hillary is a woman is icing on the cake.

People who know her have been thinking she would be the first woman President since her years in college. Take a look at this article about her as a student and read all that she accomplished before she became Mrs. Clinton
      https://oncedailyharvard.com/2015/12/01/hillary-as-a-college-kid-part-ii/

Knowing this about her is one reason I have such a good feeling about her. Before she was famous, she was held in the highest regard for who she was and what she did. She is a true leader. IMHO

4:31am, May I rewrite? "Had the first woman nominee sat nicely waiting for an invitation to dance, I would have felt better about it. But this damn chick walked right up to that country and said 'let's dance, I'm leading.' How dare she?"

It was never going to happen organically. US society sees us as second tier objects largely for male pleasure. Not all men - not most men - but enough. Just ask the Stanford rape survivor.

I'm guessing that you've never been groped at a corporate function - even more horrifying when as I was one of the more senior people in attendance (and I wasn't the only woman receiving this treatment). You've never been propositioned in the middle of a job interview (they were recruiting me). You've never been told you were adorable in the middle of presenting killer business strategy (yes, strategy crushed the competition). You've never been told you didn't receive a plumb job assignment because your boss was "worried about who would cook dinner for your husband". You've not spent your life walking into meetings with the other party assuming you were subordinate to your male staff, because you were the only woman in the room. You've never been called out for being "mean" because you suggested the men, in the midst of profanity laced shouting, take a breath and review the data (they were reading it wrong...but nice girls don't point out to the boys that their math is wrong).

The list goes on and on. And on. My story. Other women. I've lost track of the number of women who have come to me asking for help.

I'm sorry that we didn't sit around and wait to be asked. I'm sorry that our first woman nominee did the unladylike thing of showing raw ambition, that she used the system, built the alliances, and became the powerful nominee that she is. I'm sorry that she's so damned good and so damned smart that the BS attacks thrown at her didn't take her down.

No, not really. Not sorry at all.

I'm damn proud of Hillary. She kicked ass, took names, and did it in heels.

If you really need a Cinderella story, go watch a Disney movie.

May I suggest Frozen? It will help you adjust. Because you can't hold us back anymore.

You are correct that I would not be feeling so 'historical' with Carly Fiorina. But mostly because she is not very good and would not represent women very honorably. She is just plain not good at what she does.

However if a republican woman such as Susan Collins from Maine were to have been the republican nomination then, while I don't agree with her politics, I could see the significance of it. And I would wish her a good campaign and hope she would be a strong steady voice and hold her own in the mans world of presidential elections.

Of course not, she is terribly unqualified! Celebrating the fact that a woman could be voted in to the presidency comes with the requirement that she is qualified.

We celebrate the fact that an intelligent, capable woman isn't passed over BECASE she is a woman, especially passed over for a less qualified man.

Yep, once again, two consecutive elections the Democrats will make history.

In 2008 we gave the country the first Black president, Barack Obama, and first Black first lady Michelle Obama.
Now in 2016, we give the country the first woman president, Hillary Clinton. AND Hillary will also make history by being the first 'first lady' in our history to become president. The Clintons will be first husband and wife to both serve as president of the U.S.

Us Democrats are history makers with 'firsts'.
We were also the first major party to elect a woman to run as our vice president, she was Geraldine Ferraro, who was Walter Mondale's running mate in 1984.

I'm a woman, 77 yrs old, white, and I'm increasingly dismayed at the playing up of the "woman" factor. It doesn't serve Hillary Clinton well in the general election, unless all she wants is the women's votes. The fact that she's a woman is terrific, but to the electorate the fact that she is a person* who is supremely qualified, a person of real accomplishment, lawyer, Senator, Secretary of State who has met and dealt with world leaders, knows their countries and relationship to the U.S. To keep hyping the "woman" thing renders all her accomplishments sidelined, inconsequential. The woman vote won't get her there and may turn off many male voters, tired of hearing women's issues.

The other candidate is a weak businessman, inexperienced, demonstrates little to no mastery of key issues, promises trade wars, embraces racism, and demonstrates and unstable temperament.

More power to ya', but just to be clear: you are NOT a 'progressive.'

In the same way that it is ridiculous for today's insane Republicans to try to take credit for Lincoln, today's Democratic Party bears little semblance to the party of FDR.

Bill Clinton transformed what was once a truly progressive party into a '3rd-Way-Incrementalist Neo-Liberal' party.

    As for the nominee:

She vocally opposed same-sex marriage until it was politically expedient to do so.

As Senator, she voted for the war in Iraq when a child could have seen that Bush was lying. (Why? Laying the ground for her future run for the Presidency, so she couldn't be called a 'weak Democrat.')

She voted against a ban on cluster bombs...fucking CLUSTER BOMBS, which are scattered over huge areas and often picked up by children even years after their use.

As Secretary of State, she lobbied countries across the globe to sell FRACKING rights to US petrolium companies.

She personally signed-off on unprecedented volumes of ARMS SALES, including those to many countries with deplorable human rights records.
(Including some sweet deals for Textron, makers of the above-mentioned CLUSTER BOMBS, currently raining down on Yemen from American F-15s she sold to Saudi Arabia.)

The Clintons have cosied up to George W. Bush (war criminal), Donald Trump (asshole, and on more occasions than the famous wedding photo,) and 'winter' with Henry Kissinger (WAR CRIMINAL...by some accounts, responsible for 3 MILLION+ deaths) at the estate of Oscar de la Renta.

Wow! Such impressive 'liberal/progressive' credentials, huh?

Would she be 'better than Trump'...of course, but, hell, that's not a big bridge to cross.

So, get as emotional as you want about a slick video tugging at your heart strings about how 'historic' this all is, but make no mistake:

Hillary Clinton is NOT a 'progressive.'

If you aggressively jump on the 'Hills' train, YOU are not a progressive, either.

(Yeah, I'm gonna hold my nose and vote AGAINST Trump, but I will not drink the new Kool-Aid and pretend I'm voting FOR progress.)

"And when we think about the role that Hillary Clinton has played in terms of advocating for the so-called welfare reform of 1996 that decimated the lives of millions of women economically in this country, when you think of the women in the Middle East and North Africa whose lives have been shattered by the policies advocated and advanced by Hillary Clinton, it’s problematic to see her as some sort of advocate and champion for the rights of women or children or any human being. So, this is an ongoing challenge, and I think the most important words that we heard last night were three from Bernie: "The struggle continues."

While I'm no progressive Democrat, more a right leaning Independent, just as the commenters above I can't understand why the "progressive" far left is so entranced by her, she is anathema to many things they believe in.

But hey, politics, right? If a candidate says enough things over and over, even if fact checking proves them to be untrue statements, people will still buy it. Media told them it was Hillary's turn and then Obama told us it was Hillary's turn and don't look too closely at her record and alliances because really, it's her turn dammit.

there are a LOT of pissed-off white guys around that feel like something got STOLEN from them in the last two elections.
(full disclosure: I'M an old white guy)

There is no reasoning with them: the President won the popular vote I say.
And THEY say - yeah because all the minorities voted for him.
YES - I say - indeed! Minorities get to vote TOO! We're ALL Americans with equal rights, including the right to vote!

...and then they punch me in the nose.

I would LOVE to see Hillary win in a landslide...

Yes, I was just having this conversation with my husband who is black. For us, this has been a time of very momentous change. But we understand that the bitter white guys may not give up their power and privilege quietly. This would be the final challenge to their position in the center of the universe as they know it.

Well Randal you are correct, President Obama won because of the minority vote and so will Hillary.
Full disclosure, I am a minority woman married to an old white guy and my Dad is a really old white guy.

But the days of white males deciding everything is gone, while the bigots and racists are having tantrums about it will not change that in this election or the future.

Yesterday in the Fox interview she said she has no memory of signing the NDA which clearly states her legal duty to protect classified information marked or unmarked. Calling us Hillary-bots and DINOS shows how out of touch with the Democratic Party you are. We are the huge block of the multicultural Obama Coalition. Bernie dissed or ignored us, focusing his resources on states primarily with white populations; it was especially bad when he dismissed the voters of color as the "old South." We clobbered him in CA, especially when he had no ground game here because his funds had dried up. We will deliver HRC to the White House.

I truly hope that Obama or someone talks Bernie into graciously stepping down and throwing his support to Hillary. It would be the best thing for him to do and he would come off as a hero, not a spoiler. He fought the good fight and he brought many new voters into the fold. Now, it is time for him to step back and work with others to defeat Trump and the GOP on all levels of the system.

That's what happens when you're a woman who knows what she wants. Will that ever change? Down the line. Change for some people is hard. Obama helped most over that hump. Except for the Republican party who fought him all the way. They just did not want to say goodbye to their "leave it to Beaver" era. Time to put that part of our history to rest. It's a different world. The Obamas and Hillary's are a part of it no matter how much you kick and fuss.
