Brexit explained in one video. (Well more or less.)

Actually since this video was made David Cameron has stated publicly that he is stepping down as Prime Minister.

There is also talk over here of this giving Donald Trump a certain bump in the polls, since an anti-immigration stance is also what drove much of this vote to leave the EU in Britain.

Though considering that the markets are now in free fall it is hard to imagine that being much of a bump.

These are certainly interesting times we are living in right now.

Cameron will go down in UK history as an even bigger disaster than G.W. Bush in our life time.

Tony Blaire will always have the albatross of GWB and the Iraq War around his legacy also too.

@4:24 You sound as though you believe the results of the referendum are Cameron's fault. Please do a little research -- the newspapers (globally, not just USA) are full of well-written and researched articles that help explain why too many uneducated, bigoted Englishmen (and women) voted to leave. Scotland and Northern Ireland, and millenials voted to stay. Rightwing newspapers blared headlines leading up to and on the day of the referendum scaring the bejesus out of people. And now there is a petition (which has already collected over 1 million names) asking Parliament to hold another referendum. People are finally finding out the lies told by the Leave side and they're really, really angry.

Sorry bud, but buyers remorse has set in HARD in the UK and no one but the racist hard right wing nuts is happy. When your currency drops like a fucking stone, you know you fucked up.

Beware the law of unintended consequences. History is littered with examples. People who vote to "send a message" thinking their vote will will have no effect, never think that there might be more people like themselves and that can swing an election. GWB vs Al Gore is just one example. The Sanders factor in the Clinton vs Trump could be another.

I admire successful wealthy humans. Especially self made. Rich in pockets and soul is the ultimate human success story. BUTT!!!. Having a toxic person and his family stand in another country, insult and proclaim to represent the USA? and on national universal communication level?!! He speaks of "completely hugely ignorance" and of outrageously and of total delusion. It is the "hugely ultimately" and the sweet end to the current usa rogue republican party of complete and total hugely wrong moronic attempt to extort, buy and take over the planet. Good gosh republicans? don't you have one speck of self respect or love of life left? whew!!! You must gather your freaks and rift raft up and reorganize. This is a huge embarrassment to the World, United States of America. Get yer collective unionized chit together please. Thank you, The 99% of USA and World.

Yeah, he's not self made. His father had an estate of $400 million. Donald got to go to the best schools, without having to worry about loans. He could take a risk of buying real estate knowing that if he failed, he still had money

I read somewhere (I know, not very authoratative, but DT does it too, and I really did read this from a seemingly reliable source) that if he had taken the money his dad gave him, and invested it moderately aggressive (something like that) he'd be richer now than he is by his own efforts.

Thought it was funny that Trump stood in Scotland and said the Scots were taking their country back when A) The Scots voted to remain in the EU and B) He was able to build the golf course by lying about the jobs it would bring, bullying the locals to try and take their land and when that didn't work, try and use the Scottish version of eminent domain, which didn't work. There's a movie called You've Been Trumped about this. And now the party that pushed for the Brexit has come out and said that they lied about how money that now goes to the EU would go to the Healthcare system. That was the same guy who said they won without a shot being fired despite the MP being murdered last week. The pro-Brexit campaign used nationalism and anti-immigration. Where have I seen that lately?

I will link Sarah Jones op Ed that nails most republicans control issues which is how they distort facts to their dysfunctional point of view. It is so easy to manipulate and win over people who think in extremes throwing red meat at them. OT example I heard strong criticism of Michelle Obama not feeding her daughters nightly dessert which reminded me of the smears they would order parents what to do, take away their brownies etc.

There are consequences to BRexit beyond the victory over immigration.

I happen to agree with this guy that this is more about national sovereignty and anti one world government ruled by corporations and elites than it is about immigrants altho that probably gave a push to this movement. No country should have to give up their sovereignty to belong to a trade alliance or defense alliance.

Exactly. You can negotiate favorable trade deals and defense alliances without having to belong to one world governments that basically are being run by corporations with politicians in their pockets. Fully expect more nations to follow suit.

It's a different world today than it was even a couple of decades ago. Technological advances makes sure that globalism is here to stay. You either align with other nations to give you access to a bigger economy and greater negotiating power or you get stomped on by the larger economies. There is no going back. Isolationism is not a path to success.

Though this will very negatively impact England, and the stock markets around the world, let's hope this wakes up the low information US voters to the fact that the very same thing will happen here if Herr dRUMPf is elected.

Fascism comes wrapped in a flag and a bible - dRUMPf's bible seems to be the psychotic ramblings of the world's most notorious 20th century madman.

Hopefully the 'united kingdom' will begin to break up if they don't reverse this vote. The world needs to see that there are CONSEQUENCES tied to their vote rage.

  12. The larger question that should be asked is why so many Britons chose to exit. And no, they're not all bigoted, uneducated, and influenced by right wing media. There, as here, it is symptomatic of working people alienated from their government, seeing their jobs and pensions in peril, and cultural and technological changes occurring in ways too fast to assimilate.

There is no question there are many people here and elsewhere who live comfortably and sleep equally well knowing both their working years and retirement years will be intact. Unfortunately that is not the case for the majority individuals. That lack of security, the feeling it could all vanish in a heartbeat, makes for an unsettled populace.

From what I've been reading and hearing from friends in the UK, there are strong parallels to what is happening here. There is a tremendous wealth gap between rich and poor, undue corporate influence over the government, slow recovery from the recent recession with most of the progress being made is in the wealthy classes, and a fear of the recent wave of immigrants coming from Muslim countries.

Much like our country, those who do not closely follow the news are mislead by the lies and manipulation of the conservative right wing that uses the fear of immigrants and anger at a slow economy to control them. In many cases, the votes to leave the EU were cast as a protest by angry people who didn't really WANT their side to win. I've read in numerous places that many British people are suddenly asking just what the EU is, after voting to leave it without any understanding of what they were voting for. There also seems to be a tremendous disparity in the percentage of votes by age group. Older voters voted strongly for leaving while younger voters chose remaining in the EU by a huge majority. I read several interviews of older voters who said they weren't worried because if the withdrawal proved to be a disaster, they wouldn't have to live with it for too long anyway!

There also seemed to be a very poor campaign run by those who supported remaining in the EU. They failed to educate the voters about the very serious and far-reaching consequences of leaving the EU and how that decision would affect every aspect of people's everyday lives.

Fear, ignorance and anger were the keys to the conservatives winning this battle. It's a frightening lesson that we should pay very close attention to because the same scenario could easily play out here in November.

    5. 10.17 has it pretty much right. Just like in the Scottish referendum of 2014, the media were successfully able to conduct a campaign of misinformation of massive proportions, aimed at the average person who does not take the time to educate themselves on the issues. Just last week Farage promised that 350 million which would normally go to the EU would be pledged to the NHS. Yesterday he walked that one right back. In fact they're plan is to eradicate the NHS altogether and replace it with health ins. I can guarantee that many of the aged people who voted to leave were not planning on losing their beloved NHS.
