Instead of leaning forward it appears that MSNBC will now start leading right. Well isn't that special?

Courtesy of Mediaite:

Although this has been a shift that has been a long time coming, MSNBC has now launched an ad campaign seeking to build on its Trump-fueled success with an appeal to conservatives that’s so ham-fisted, they actually had to clear it with Oscar Mayer‘s legal department first. Politico reports that as part of its rebranding, the network is now advertising its extensive slate of conservative commentators with an ad featuring the tagline “People might start accusing us of leaning too far to the right”:

In what is perhaps the network’s most overt symbol of the new tone, however, is another ad that will run in some conservative and mainstream outlets. The ad features some of MSNBC’s conservative and Republican contributors — like radio host Hugh Hewitt, GOP consultant Steve Schmidt and former RNC chairman Michael Steele — with a cheeky message: “People might start accusing us of leaning too far to the right.”

Griffin cast the rebranding as just one more stage in MSNBC’s “evolution.”

“MSNBC will turn 20 this year on July 15,” he said. “There have been so many evolutions, and look if you don’t evolve, in any medium, you’re going to lose. So I think we’ve been in a process of evolution and I feel very good about what we’re doing.”

You know the last thing this country needs is another Fox News-lite.

CNN has already demonstrated their desire to embrace the Fox News business model, and if MSNBC does the same then liberals will be without a cable news outlet that they can rely on to tell the actual, untainted truth.

The article goes on to suggest that much of the reason for this decision rests with the ratings bonanza MSNBC has enjoyed while covering Donald Trump and they clearly feel that more access to "The Donald" means more cash in their pockets.

Which makes me want to ask, "Are these idiots willing to give Trump a pass, and allow him to win the presidency, simply in order to improve their ratings while he destroys the country?"

So much for journalistic ethics.

    Tweet from Trump
"I don't watch or do @Morning_Joe anymore. Small audience, low ratings! I hear Mika has gone wild with hate. Joe is Joe. They lost their way!"

I happen to catch Morning Joe yesterday morning and Mika couldn't stop shaking her head about Trump's remarks about the Judge.
Joe had the day off but the other guests
all seemed to pretty much agree that Trump
was outrageous with his comments. I have to give credit to Mika even though not really a fan.

MSNBC and HGTV were the last channels keeping me in a higher U-verse tier. Once Martin Basheer was fired I started rethinking my support. Now I have only basic TV. I can get my favorite shows---and news--- elsewhere, and my AT&T bill is much lower.

  3. The only show I watch is Rachel Maddow. If they make her suck up to the GOP, that'll be the end of MSNBC.

    2. MSNBC already controls what show hosts (including Rachel) can or cannot cover. I'd love to see her switch to Free Speech TV where she could make better use of her intellect openly informing the public. Unfortunately, the $$ are probably what keeps her there.

When all media control the narrative, what's the point of watching? I research and draw my own conclusions and, besides, if I wanted to watch a bunch of so-called "expert" pundits screaming over each other to get the last word in, I'd pay my grandchildren a visit for a few hours. They vie for attention just like 'em and are by far cuter.

One thing is clear. Democrats are very envious people. Liberals are innately unhappy and they HATE to see people happy. It's sad. I don't understand it. Life is too short to lie about people you will never meet.

    7. As a liberal, this is what I hate. I hate people who wrap their bigotry and nastiness in the flag and religion. Here I will use "you" in a general sense, not as in "you" personally, because I don't know you.

I do not envy your pornographic love of guns, your suspicion and hatred of other religions and cultures, your bigotry directed at people who identify as LGBT, your willingness to embrace myth and fantasy rather than science, your worship of the rich, your rejection of programs and ideas that benefit those in need, your rejection of education, your rejection of choice, and your love of war.

To your point of hating to see people (you) happy, no one with as much fear and hatred as so many conservatives appear to harbor is happy. A life of quiet desperation is neither enviable, nor life.

That you think I envy you is incomprehensible to me. I don't want what you have (whatever that be). Nor do I want to be like you. There are things I desire and envy, but they have nothing do with being conservative.

My bottom line is this: Are you someone I can respect, because you walk the walk, or are you a hypocrite? And that litmus test crosses party and cultural lines.

  7. As the 4th estate, journalism has responsibilities as well as rights, and has sadly fallen down in it's obligations to those it wishes to inform.
To allow Trump to rise in power merely because it makes the ratings go up, shines a light on how little the media as a whole has gone from an information service, with ethics and integrity to a source of support to one of the most seriously disturbed individual who has anger management problems, difficulty in perceiving the truth, less than normal intelligence and a character that has no restraint. As he is applying for a job, his arrogance and lack of restraint has put him in the singular position of disqualifying himself from being hired. You must ask yourself whether or not you want this ego-maniac to represent yourself or this country in November. And this is a watershed moment, use your best judgement.

Everyone should look at Trump in this manner: If they operated their own business, would they hire Donald Trump! My answer would be a firm NO! Having him on board would run it into the ground!

If MSNBC is going to try to appeal to conservatives, I think they will find out the hard way that for most conservatives, you can never be conservative enough. Everything is too liberal to those people.

If MSNBC thinks they will ever be able to satisfy that target audience, they are in for a shock.

It took me a while to finally drop it, but I did. And I am so happy. Love seeing my telecom bill. I'm paying only for Internet, mobile and basic cable. It's great. Listen to BBC radio, watch network/public television, catch my favorite shows and movies on Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon. (I get so much more for that $30 a month than I did for my former $100+ TV bill.) And I read all my favorite websites and blogs.

I never understand these attempts to seriously change the tone of these media channels. They assume, by moving to the right, that they will gain conservative viewers in numbers greater than they lose liberal viewers.

In reality, no conservative would ever watch MSNBC when they have Fox tailor made to feed their fear and anger. And they will certainly lose a huge number of their liberal followers.

I agree with another that said all they watch is Rachel Maddow. She is a brilliant observer and analyzer of political matters. I also have been watching Lawrence O'Donnell a bit more as of late because his extreme dislike of Trump on display is entertaining. But none of the other programming is really interesting.

I don't like O'Donnell anymore. First, he was wrong about Trump. For years, he said Trump was not seriously running, even though Trump had previously run for President in 1980 on the Reform Party ticket. O'Donnell never says a good thing about HRC, either.

But most of all, I am suspicious of O'Donnell's real relationship to Trump after hearing the tapes of calls from his fiancée Tamron Hall (or did they marry already?) to Donald Trump. http://gawker.com/voicemails-appear-to-reveal-donald-trumps-cozy-relation-1762690660

True journalism is dead. And the news outlets aren't the only ones to blame. We live in a culture where people need constant entertainment and stimulation. So instead of news reporters just reporting facts they now add so much fluff to keep people entertained.

I'm very liberal and have watched MSNBC since it began. I have to have my TRMS and The Last Word. But I've actually been enjoying seeing some conservatives on the panels. Their willingness to talk about Trump's and other past candidates strengths and weaknesses and integrity and lack of it has been a good thing. I have also been enjoying the new With All Due Respect. I like seeing that kind of liberal-conservative duo setup again. And I love Chris Hayes and how (I saw him do this more than once Friday) he will interrupt a guest who's conservative to correct things factually--unlike some hosts, he doesn't just let them talk as if what they are saying is fact. Now, once the election is over I do hope that many of these people are not on or on infrequently, but right now I am very glad to hear their thoughts about the GOP aspect of the election season. It's making my hatred of Trump and anticipation of his embarrassing demise in November all that more delicious.
