Justice Clarence Thomas might be the next Supreme Court vacancy.

Courtesy of Washington Examiner:

Justice Clarence Thomas, a reliable conservative vote on the Supreme Court, is mulling retirement after the presidential election, according to court watchers.

Thomas, appointed by former President George H.W. Bush and approved by the Senate after a bitter confirmation, has been considering retirement for a while and never planned to stay until he died, they said. He likes to spend summers in his RV with his wife.

Of course the Thomas camp is denying this, which is what they always do.

However if true this would indicate that there are two Supreme Court positions that the new President would need to fill possibly within her first year on the job.

So for all of you sore losers threatening to sit this one out, or to write in Bernie Sanders name in protest, you just take a minute to imagine a Supreme Court packed with Donald Trump appointees.

Good luck trying to get a good night's sleep in that reality.

They will carve a stump in his likeness and stick it on the bench, then announce that he's decided to stay. Clarence and his asshole wife can then RV off into the sunset.

If I saw him driving in my state in an RV w/his wife, I'd be happy to give him a hearty welcome - which would be - the almighty middle finger raised very high in his direction!

The scuttlebutt around DC is that somebody cooked this up to motivate the base of one party or the other.

This story is not true, so it's either 1) a ploy by Repubs to terrify Never Trumpers into realizing that Hillary could completely pack the Supreme Court with liberals for 30 years, or 2) a ploy by Dems to thrill any leftist Bernie or Bust stragglers into realizing exactly the same thing.

@ 8:50 Bingo! He doesn't engage or ask questions (or even stay awake at the bench).

He has no idea what to do now...

It is true. So HRC will have 2-3 spaces to fill in the Court, depending on what happens with Merrick Garland. We know Ginsberg is ready to retire.

Is this your first rodeo? Nothing like calling Bernie supporters losers, to make them feel welcome under the big tent. Backers of defeated democratic candidates since WWII have always, after licking their wounds, ended up supporting the nominee.

"Big tent" is a Republican term. As for previous Dem candidates supporting the nominee, every last one of them did it sooner and with less derision and divisiveness than Bernie has or will, so you just disproved your own case. More importantly, those former second placers have been ACTUAL LIFELONG DEMOCRATS, not Indie spoilers who used party resources to line their own pockets. Given the amount of fuckery that Bernie has visited upon the DNC, and the amount of blatant misogyny his supporters have shown Hillary without consequence, it's only a teensy payback by comparison if a few bloggers tell Berners some home truths.

8:34 - My first thought, was that it was a scare tactic to bring rogue Republicans in line behind Trump.

Unfortunately for them, the Tea Party wing has been bad mouthing the court as a bunch of "unelected lawyers" who have no right to decide anything that effects their bigotry, gun ownership, or freedom to revolt against the federal government. Rank and file Republicans may not care about Supreme Court seats as passionately as they once did.

Good luck with this. When I saw this yesterday, I immediately thought that he GOP will do everything in their powers to have a ReThug elected for President. That includes futzing around with the voting machines, and making sure that all the voter suppression machinations are in place an working at full speed come November. If this means that tRump will elected, so be it. there are ways to get rid of him later on. But then hey do have one little obstacle: they need to make him appoint a VP to their liking. Not sure i he will accommodate them with this. $arah PayMe is too much a 'maverick' that will not do what the establishment wants her to do. Not sure who else is on his 'short list'.

Being from Alaska, we've seen how Sarah Palin does things - to include the fact she doesn't work - it seems too difficult for her!

And, she is NOT a team player and never has been! Trump would not be able to control her! Nor, would she be able to control him!

Shit! She couldn't be controlled by the McCain group when he ran for POTUS. Ask Nicole Wallace or read everything that's been written about Palin by those involved with that race!

Or, review the cable movie that was made regarding her! (Cannot remember the name of it to save my life! But, it can be pulled up on Google.)

Palin proved herself to be a mental mess and someone illiterate! It became so apparent the McCain group didn't properly research/vet her and her history in Alaska!

You have two huge egos with Trump and Palin. They'd literally kill each other eventually. Their being on a 'ticket' together will never work!

They'd never win anyway by the time the media/press got done with them!

Part of the research the media should do first is dig into why Palin quit so quickly as gov of Alaska? There have been many rumors of what she did throughout the years, but no one in Alaska will talk and non of the media delved into it either!

Sean Parnell and others in his administration didn't disclose anything either after Palin quit! The Alaska Republicans covered for her - plain and simple!

      Someone needs to talk!!!

    4. Anonymous11:51 AM

Are you morons still blabbering on about Palin, and actually giving her credence by trying to insinuate that she is on a vp candidate list?

Really? Are you really that dumb?

Palin is not on any list. She is not and will never be a politician again. She is just not that important, not important at all really.

Oh, and 11:15, all the talking about Palin, by those that matter anyways, is done. Nobody of any influence is digging or going to dig into anything Palin, now or in the future. She is the past, all the digging has been done, and now she is a wannabe reality star, and that is the way it is.

    3. I was so disappointed that the hearings turned into whether or not the Anita Hill allegations were true or not, and if they could not be proved, then he had to be confirmed.

Leaving Hill out of the picture entirely, there was nothing in Thomas's background that indicated that he was qualified in any for the Supreme Court.

He should never have been nominated, let alone confirmed.

But, Hillary Clinton being elected POTUS in November can help rectify that situation in that her appointments will stop the Republican majority we've seen for a number of years.

It's way past time we give Republicans a taste of their own medicine!

"In 1859, Elizabeth Cady Stanton wrote to Susan B. Anthony, “When I pass the gate of the celestials and good Peter asks me where I wish to sit, I will say, ‘Anywhere so that I am neither a negro nor a woman. Confer on me, great angel, the glory of White manhood, so that henceforth I may feel unlimited freedom.’ ”
"fighting for the Fourteenth Amendment, which they expected to guarantee the rights and privileges of citizenship for all Americans. Instead, they were told that “this is the Negro’s hour,” and that the amendment would include the word “male,” so as to specifically EXCLUDE women. “Do you believe the African race is composed entirely of males?” Stanton asked Wendell Phillips. And then she warned, “If that word ‘male’ be inserted, it will take us a century at least to get it out.”
At the Republican nominating convention in 1872, the Party split into two, but neither faction added a suffrage plank to its platform. “We recognize the equality of all men before the law,” the Liberal Republicans declared, specifically discounting women. In 1880, Anthony wrote a speech to deliver at the Democratic National Convention. It began, “To secure to twenty millions of women the rights of citizenship is to base your party on the eternal principles of justice.” Instead, her statement was read by a male clerk, while Anthony looked on.
"Margaret Chase Smith was drafted into the race, a liberal alternative. As the historian Ellen Fitzpatrick recounts in a terrific new book, “The Highest Glass Ceiling,” Smith was the first woman elected on her own to the Senate and the first woman to serve in both houses of Congress. Asked why she agreed to run against Goldwater, she once said, “There was nowhere to go but the Presidency.” She was the first and boldest member of the Senate to oppose McCarthy, in a speech she made from the floor, known as the Declaration of Conscience: “I don’t want to see the Republican Party ride to political victory on the Four Horsemen of Calumny—FEAR, IGNORANCE, BIGOTRY, and SMEAR.” At the Convention in 1964, she refused to endorse Goldwater," HRC>
"Rodham, a twenty-year-old Capitol Hill intern, attended the Republican National Convention in Miami as a supporter of the antiwar candidate, Nelson Rockefeller. For the first time since 1940, the G.O.P. dropped from its platform its endorsement of equal rights." SHE>H. R. was a SMART GIRL! But this happened with a 1 VOTE loss.
"With the end of the E.R.A., whose chance at ratification expired in 1982, both parties abandoned a political settlement necessary to the stability of the republic. "daddy>"George Romney called supporters of the E.R.A. “moral perverts,”

Maybe the movie about his confirmation caused him to take stock. And the absence of his mentor/decision provider, Scalia must have scared him when he realized that he would actually have to work and think for himself.

They have not governed - obstructed throughout the past two terms of President Obama and did nothing of benefit for anyone that voted them into office.

In Alaska - Murkowski, Sullivan and Young sorely need replacing! I've never voted for one of them and I'm in my 70's. Time to rule them out Alaskans and get new, youthful blood in Congress!
