Bernie Sanders to join Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire tomorrow.

Courtesy of Politico:

Bernie Sanders will join Hillary Clinton on Tuesday for a rally in New Hampshire, Clinton's campaign announced Monday.

Sanders will campaign with Clinton at a high school in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, less than two weeks before the party's convention begins in Philadelphia.

The Vermont senator's campaign announced his participation minutes after the Clinton team's email hit inboxes, with both announcements sharing the same language that the two former primary rivals will "discuss their commitment to building an America that is stronger together and an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top."

I think it's a safe bet to assume that tomorrow Sanders will endorse Clinton and officially end his campaign.

Sanders and his delegates have pushed to craft the most progressive platform in history, so that should be more than enough to convince Sanders that his work here is done.

However I must again point out that the platform literally means nothing unless the Democrats can get enough support to pass their policy ideas into law, and that will undoubtedly include compromise which Sanders and his supporters seem to reject out of hand.

Personally I am just glad that this whole thing is about over so that I no longer have any reason to write another word about Bernie Sanders.

G? If Senator Sanders (respectfully now) chairs the committee to investigate the Bush Admin and specifically Dick the Fuck Cheney. My bet is you would be taking that last line back. Lots to look forward to now. ;-)

Bernie Sanders is not capable of leading an investigation of Dick Cheney. Sanders has no law degree, zero capital across the aisle, and no military service or cabinet-level experience. He'd be a laughing stock and would bungle such an opportunity.

  4. For those of us "out here" who believe in Bernie Sanders' right to drag the Democratic party back to being progressive: read this.

    http://www.salon.com/2016/07/10/sanders_victory_how_bernie_ended_the_cold_war_in_2016/

The neoliberal, globalist vision embraced by many mainstream Democrats and Republicans, both Clintons included, is mostly fantasy. Sanders voters were ready to embrace democratic socialism not because they’re wild-eyed idealists, but because it works.

Being a Democratic Socialist is now a great, legitimate thing to be in America, esp. for young people who see no problem with wanting the Democrats to address inequality.

As someone who actually lives in the States, I see absolutely no sign of this. No college students I know are identifying as Democratic Socialists in any real or practical way. Maybe on social media? But that's about it.

    2. Anonymous10:01 AM

Yeah, nobody's a "wild-eyed idealist" for wanting social programs that can't be paid for and actually deepen the divisiveness in the country. And it's totally practical to think that Bernie Sanders has any power whatsoever to actually accomplish any of his ideas.
(Also, I'm an EU citizen, and you might want to check with a few of us about how our social democratic policies/program are currently faring before you talk about how easy they would be to implement here.)

      Delete
    3. I didn't say social programs would be easily workable or even possible given the present obstructionism in congress, but the acknowledgement in a presidential campaign of the staggering inequality in America is a major step forward. Thank Bernie for that.

Not really, Barbara Carlson at 2:09pm. Bernie Sanders was never up front about the actual costs of his social programs. While I wouldn't object to an increase in taxes, most Americans would be loathe to face the cost to them. Shortsighted of people but that's the reality. And politics, while it may well be the art of the compromise, is also subject to the realities of ordinary people's perceptions. Perhaps Sanders understood that and that was his reason for glossing over how his programs would be paid for.

I agree that people's beliefs can change, and the 70s was an odd time. But the point is there's a double standard. Hillary gets called a Republican/liar/shill because she was a "Goldwater girl" for about 5 seconds when she was 16, but the people who make that accusation refuse to acknowledge Bernie's shadiness from the same period. (And Bernie is five years older than her! He wrote thing about teachers being bitches when he was almost 30.) I've even had Bernie supporters ***defend*** his comments about rape and say I "just don't understand his point." It's infuriating, especially when many IM commenters are attacking Hillary supporters and saying we're the ones who are bitter, mendacious, etc.
Thanks for reading. I hope more Bernie supporters will realize that he's been given a huuuuge free pass on stuff that would easily be a death sentence for Hillary. Had Bernie made it to the general election as the DNC nominee, he would have been humiliated. he is definitely NOT "more electable" than Hillary. There's a lot more where those links came from.

However, now that Bernie has jumped on the train with the rest of the Democrats, I hope he does what he says he will do and that is fight hard to ensure that Donald Trump is not only beaten, but badly beaten.

We cannot have Republican Primary voters endangering our country with such a reckless nominee as Trump. If the Trump loss is "yuuuuge", and the Democrats pick up seats taking over the Senate and possibly the House, I think the 2020 nominee will be quite moderate.

I was very worried that the Democrats would not unite and that Bernie would not endorse Hillary. Think Ted Kennedy in 1980 or Eugene McCarthy in 1968. Both men played an integral part in the elections of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Yes, Humphrey sucked and so did Carter, but they were better than Nixon and Reagan, respectively.

Trump is the most dangerous candidate ever to be the nominee of a major party. Dems have to unite to beat him. If a Romney or a Kasich were on the ballot, I would not be so freaked out.

So, hold your nose if you must, but vote for Hillary and a straight D ticket this fall.

Full Disclosure: I am 60 years old and until Obama, I have always had to hold my nose to vote. I will be holding my nose again in November. Obama was the only candidate I ever truly liked. I am going to miss him.

One of my worries is that Trump will be dumped by the GOP convention and someone like Romney (remember the 47%, the books of women, his hiding of his wealth in foreign accounts) or Kasich (a true teabagger who did much to do the state of Ohio in). Neither is worthy of the office of the President of the United States.

That would not have happened if not for Bernie.

I thought you were progressive. Why not celebrate such a thing instead of saying, basically, "Glad i'm done with that asshole?"

Our reaction is "meh" because Bernie waited too long to do what's right.

Hillary supporters do not owe Sanders a debt of gratitude. She and the DNC already agreed with 90% of his policy proposals, and all he's done is weaken Hillary in the fight against Trump.

Bernie's legacy could very well be that he contributed to the defeat of the most qualified candidate in our nation's history, dogged the first female major Presidential candidate, and ushered in a wave of fascism (with Trump) because his pride was too big to admit he should be working WITH other liberals and not against them.

Hence, sensible left wingers will stick with "meh" for now.

How many potential voters, of either, party, know or are interested in knowing their party's platform planks. Okay, there is usually one that gets lots of attention like the quadrennial GOP plank against abortion and the reverse Democratic plank about respecting women's rights. But otherwise . . . . The party platform is a loose framework around which the candidate creates a scenario for speeches, handouts, etc. The Democrats' platform has been far more liberal than the Republican one for almost a century at least now. Not much of a platform ever becomes law unless the party in power controls all three branches of the federal government - something we do not want the GOP to achieve in 2016 or ever.

Not All Democrats Think Hillary Clinton Should Be Cleared Of Wrongdoing In Email Scandal

Fifty-six percent of Americans disagree with FBI director James Comey’s recommendation to clear Hillary Clinton of any wrongdoing for her email practices as secretary of state, according to an ABC/Washington Post poll released on Monday.

Unsurprisingly, Republicans are united in their stance on the issue: Eighty-eight percent of those polled disagree with Comey’s recommendation not to charge Clinton with a crime.

But perhaps a less anticipated finding of the poll is that Democrats aren’t completely unified in their perception of the issue. While 6 in 10 Democrats polled agree with Comey’s recommendation, a significant portion ― 31 percent― disagree with it.

...Unlike the other people being speculated about as running mate picks, Perez has actually gotten to know the Clintons, and they’ve both taken a shine to him after the year he spent putting his own progressive credentials on the line to knock back Bernie Sanders. Arguing forcefully that she’s a change agent—the former president’s made clear he’s particularly sensitive when people say otherwise—appears to have made an impression, too.

Clinton picks up progressive endorsements ahead of joint appearance with Sanders in New Hampshire

...Meanwhile, two progressive groups that had backed Sanders in the primary but have held out on supporting Clinton are formally moving into her corner.

"The Communications Workers of America announced Monday morning that it would "wholeheartedly" endorse Clinton.

The union warned that if Donald Trump is elected president, union workers would be "watching our backs for years."

"Hillary Clinton is thoughtful and experienced. Donald Trump is reckless, unthinking and much more likely to cut a deal with his billionaire colleagues than look out for working families," the union said in a statement. "The choice is clear."

And another group that had backed Sanders, the Progressive Action Political Action Committee (Congressional Progressive Caucus), also endorsed Clinton on Monday.

"“Hillary Clinton shares our ideals and has worked to improve the lives of Americans her entire adult life – as an activist, a litigator, a First Lady, a Senator, and then a Secretary of State," the PAC said in a statement. "Members of PAPAC unite behind her now, and we will work to ensure Secretary Clinton is the next President of the United States."

The organization is led by two of Sanders's biggest congressional endorsers, Arizona Rep. Raul Grijalva (who has already endorsed Clinton) and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.).

Both endorsements signal that progressive groups are urging their supporters to get behind Clinton ahead of a likely endorsement by Sanders.

This is not a profile of Hillary Clinton. It is not a review of her career or an assessment of her campaign. You won’t find any shocking revelations on her emails, on Benghazi, on Whitewater, or even on her health care plan.

This is an effort to answer a question I’ve been struggling with since at least 2008: Why is the Hillary Clinton described to me by her staff, her colleagues, and even her foes so different from the one I see on the campaign trail?

    Trump hires

...Trump is also bringing on Steven Cheung as rapid response director, whose job the announcement says will be to keep "the campaign up to date on breaking news and pushing back on false or unbalanced reporting." Cheung, who the campaign notes in its announcement worked most recently as the director of communications and public affairs for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has also worked on several Senate and gubernatorial campaigns, as well as the John McCain-Sarah Palin GOP ticket in 2008.

So he has experience in what? Losing? Good.

Just got back from vacation. Did not go on internet or watch tv. Now that was a vaction! Got back and got re-un-informed. The Hilary bashing has been kicked up a couple notches. Wheh. The boys are really really out to get her. I think they hate her because she reminds them of the mother that disciplined them as children, or a teacher, or a nurse. Or some other female authoritive figure from their past. Or they lost on the black president, damned if they are going to lose on the woman president. The Republican men are remnants of a time past when men ruled. White men, that is. Change threatens to come and all hell lets loose. Lucky Hilary is as tough as nails when all these big boy cry babies come at her.

Sanders campaign calls it a joint appearance. Clinton campaign calls it a joint appearance. Nobody who matters is promising an endorsement tomorrow.

ABC changed its headline to "Bernie Sanders Expected to Join Clinton at NH rally " from "Sanders Expected to Endorse Clinton at NH rally".
    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/bernie-sanders-join-hillary-clinton-hampshire-rally/story?id=40487166

So what's a safe bet is Sanders isn't going to endorse Clinton tomorrow.

I think it's a safe bet to assume that tomorrow Sanders will endorse Clinton and officially end his campaign.

Does that mean that old bat and Bernie will finally give up the Secret Service detail we are paying $38,000 a day for?

Let that old coot and his $200,000 wife start driving themselves around.

"using precious Secret Services resources better utilized to protect our President and his family"

Talk about a monumental goalpost move! Your and others' 'problem' with Sanders' continuing to have a SS detail heretofore has been about cost, not jeopardizing the president's safety.

I challenge you to cite anything that supports a claim that agents protecting Sanders were removed from the president's or his family's detail rotation to protect Sanders or would be assigned to that rotation if they weren't protecting Sanders.

      Man, split hairs much?

Gryphen's point is that Sanders is only in this now, after losing, for selfish reasons. That includes the SS protection, which he doesn't need.

The only one with "monumental goalpost moves" is Bernie himself. He doesn't give a shit about anything but his own image.

    2. Anonymous2:14 PM

No that was not his point. His point was absolutely clear: Secret Service protection for Sanders comes at the expense of protection of the president and his family. All along he's had a histrionic streak about Sanders that causes overly-dramatic statements he can't back up with facts.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous3:44 PM

G's "histrionic streak" is NOTHING compared to the sore loser, conspiracy-theory screeching of Bernie Bros.
We don't actually know how the SS are being paid, so Gryphen's point, even if wrong, is still more plausible than anything I've heard from Bernie supporters in a solid year.

SS details are approved by Homeland Security and the President. They also decide when a detail should be called off. Ask them!

Yeah, no need to mention Sanders again. The damage has been done, witness the replies to this post.

You think the Democrats would have the most progressive platform ever if he hadn't stayed in and pressured and pushed to make that happen?

Yeah, go ahead and bash some more. Don't forget to bully his supporters too.

As for this board, it will never be the same. The door has been opened for insults and vitriol, personal attacks and obnoxious behavior. And I'm not talking about hit and run trolls. I'm talking about some of the regulars. The ones that drove the other regulars away.

Thanks a lot, Gryphen. Hope you like what you built.

Yep. I grieve the inability of so many on IM to recognize the contributions Bernie has made to the revitalization of a youth-based passion for politics. They are the future of the Democratic Party and doubt they will let it dissolve into go-slow, unprogressive, undemocratic, entitled mess that it has become and will continue to be under Hillary.

    2. Anonymous3:32 PM

Well, in all honesty most of us Bernie supporters here were never going to vote for Hillary so it matters not what some pre-school babysitter in Anchorage has to say about Bernie.

    3. Anonymous3:48 PM

That would be a really interesting criticism if it were remotely accurate. Bernie is stealing credit for progressive causes in order to feather his own nest, and the only reason his supporters don't know is because they've never paid attention before. Also, the vitriol is from YOU, not us. If you don't like my criticisms, maybe your precious Bernie acolytes shouldn't have called me a cunt and chanted "burn it down" in the streets for ten months. Look in the mirror if you want to find the real problem.

Whatever Sanders' spin that he's endorsing Clinton because of the platform -- after saying just recently that it wasn't progressive enough and Clinton still had more work to do -- the timing of Sanders' announcement pretty loudly confirms what many have thought all along, that Sanders was waiting on the FBI and hoping on an indictment of Clinton over her email use that would force her from the race. The FBI declined to recommend an indictment, and then the chatter over Sanders' imminent endorsement began. He and Jane could read the writing on the wall; their last Hail Mary pass to win the nomination failed.

Bernie Sanders said he's not there to talk about the past but about the future

But he's mentioning how many votes he got, how many delegates he has, how many people he talked to at his rallies, about his revolution, I, I, I etc

He's giving his campaign speech and maybe publicly boxing her in.
