Steven Brumby, the deceased. |
The incident happened at approximately 3:15 Sunday afternoon, at High Noon Gun Range in Sarasota.
William Brumby was positioned in the last shooting lane where there was a solid wall on his right-hand side. After firing a round, the spent shell casing struck the wall causing it to deflect and fall into the back of Mr. Brumby's shirt. Brumby then used his right hand, which was holding the handgun, in an attempt to remove the casing. While doing so, he inadvertently pointed the firearm directly behind him and accidentally fired. The round struck his 14-year-old son, Stephen, who was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and later died as a result of his injuries.
Man I have heard some fucked up stories about people accidentally shooting their family members, but this is may be the most fucked up one of all.
I am not going to make any tasteless jokes here because this is an absolute tragedy.
But damn people need to start recognizing that the thing in their hand is an instrument of death and make sure they treat it as such.
P.S. There is a Go Fund Me page for anybody interested.
God DAMN it!
ReplyDeleteLook at that kid...
this makes me feel like weeping.
People - guns are DANGEROUS!
They're not TOYS!
God damn it...
Full disclosure: I live in South Dakota and I own guns. I have grandchildren. MY guns are locked away. YOURS should be TOO.
Are your guns locked away at the range?
DeleteWhat did he have in his left hand that prevented him from using it? A beer?
ReplyDeleteGuy should just sell all his guns to pay for the funeral of the son he killed with one.
ReplyDeleteSeriously! Why should others pay for his stupidity?
DeleteIt really bothers me that this father killed his son out of sheer stupidity, yet there have been hundreds of gullible idiots who have donated to the family. I can think of a lot more worthy causes. The father needs to be charged with negligent homicide.
ReplyDeletecouldn't agree more
DeleteHow grief-stricken was that mother, anyway, if she managed to throw together a GoFundMe campaign before the body was cold? What terrible, terrible parents.
DeleteWhat makes guns excessively dangerous is their popularity with dumbasses.
ReplyDeleteWas it even two weeks ago? The Texas mom who rage-shot her two daughters? We knew Florida would reply before long didn't we?
ReplyDeleteI swear, dvlaries, it's one-upmanship between those states as to who can be "more stupider."
Delete18k is a lot of money for a funeral. I'm guessing the rest will go towards the family's arsenal.
ReplyDeleteI'm not donating anything unless the dad gives up all his guns, his NRA membership, and goes on Fix and begs other Republicans to vote for gun locks and responsible use. Idiots.
Delete@Anonymous 5:17 AM
DeleteWhy would you even consider donating to these people at all? They are just capitalizing off their sons death.
GoFundMe is the new way to get the public to pay for your loved ones death, and have money left over to buy luxury items. Most of these people have insurance, so they even have more profit off their loved ones deaths.
Remember: A fool and his money are soon parted.
If he can afford to use a shooting range he can damn well afford to pay for his son's funeral.
DeleteAnd the are such strong Christians you know, the gofundme page says they are happy that the kid is now rejoicing with the heroes of his faith or some such. ha! And holding up a fish the kid murdered is likely to gain sympathy among those of us who are more conscious…you reap what you sow.
ReplyDeleteThey're fundraising off their son's death?
ReplyDeleteMust be Democrats
You win the idiot of the day award.
DeleteAnd you must be a drooling moron.
DeleteUsing a child's death to attack democrats?
DeleteMust be a worthless asshole
@Anonymous 5:27 AM
DeleteNo, they are definitely right-wing NRA card carrying gun nuts.
Asking for money to profit off their sons death. Daddy needs a new Lexus.

AND>>>> the killer probably doesn't work either. Most of THEM do not work. Lazy-ass whitey.
DeleteGee 9:50am you really have a hard-on for whitey, doncha?
DeleteAnonymous10:26 AM: of course, Its' been proven over and over and over again that whites are lazy. They built this country with free labor, they hate to work and blame everyone else for their laziness. They are rapist and child-molesters. Just look at the trump followers...
DeleteLook at palin living for free and blaming the president for their laziness and crimes...i can go on and on and on and on
Hmmm... gun-loving Christians sound more like Republicans to me.
DeleteFather's are in charge of protecting their children. Not killing them!
ReplyDeleteWake up stupid people!
There are many fun and safe hobbies and activities to do with kids ... fishing, bowling, tennis, golf, etc.
ReplyDeleteThis idiot chose shooting. To bad for the kid
And the stupidity lives on in some of the heartless comments.
ReplyDeleteGo fund the funeral then.
Delete@5:37 AM The stupidity lives on with the father who used his gun as a back scratcher/shell finder. Apparently the gun was owned by his 12 year old daughter. She will probably never want to touch a gun again. Mr. Brumby is headed for divorce court.
DeleteSorry for their loss and for the son who probably didn't want to die, but not interested I paying for their stupidity.
ReplyDeleteWe're not the ones shooting our children...so tell me again who exactly is heartless?
ReplyDeleteHow many children must die before we get some sensible FEDERAL gun regulations?
ReplyDeleteObviously the massacre at Sandy Hook didn't make a difference. All of the children who found guns and shot themselves or family members since then haven't made a difference. All of the stupid, negligent adults who have shot children since then haven't made a difference.
Is there a magic number that I can look for so I don't have to cry every time I hear a story like this? That way I can just keep a tally sheet and remind myself, "Oh, not there yet. One hundred thirty seven more to go before they actually DO something to stop this needless death."
He should be charged with criminal negligence, manslaughter, homicidal stupidity, whatever fits the bill.
ReplyDeleteThe death was 100% preventable had proper precautions been followed.
No, he has not "suffered enough." He didn't care enough about his own son's life to follow simple precautions, like taking two fucking seconds to holster his gun. He needs to be charged and tried.
This needs to happen every time someone is hurt or killed through some moron's inability to be responsible with their precious gunsie wunsies. Maybe if enough cretins actually have to pay the consequences of their idiocy, the carnage can be slowed. It worked with drunk driving.
Absolutely, Nefer, I am so tired of these incidents being called "accidents."
DeleteI agree, this wasn't an accident in any sense. Obviously he pointed his weapon at someone and obviously his finger was on the trigger ( sorry, guns do not just go off on their own).
DeleteSo this family has the nerve (just like the other greedy people) to open a GoFundMe account. I guess they need a new Lexus.
ReplyDeleteGoFundMe is the modern day way of people profiting off their family members and friends deaths. Getting the public to pay for their funeral AND getting extra profit with the money left over to buy cars and other luxury items.
The guy says it's not the gun's fault, it's his, and he takes responsibility. In other words shit happens. He's apparently very religious, he says he's going to see his kid in heaven. Nice to have that fairy tale to tell yourself after you shoot your kid.
ReplyDeleteProblem is they were at the gun range on the Sabbath. Any Christian should know that the Sabbath is to be spent worshiping God. Respecting the Sabbath is one of the ten commandments, it comes way before gay sex and abortion. The biblical penalty for breaking the Sabbath was death by stoning. So I'm thinking, even if there is a God, that no one in this story would be going to heaven anyway.
First rule of gun club: don't use your gun to scratch your button.
ReplyDeletePoor kid
Gofundme should kick this worthless asshole off their site. HE killed his kid by an act of extreme stupidity. HE should pay to bury the boy.
ReplyDeleteHopefully no one will say "at least he died doing what he loved to do"
ReplyDeleteThe good news is the young man is now in Heaven, bass fishing with Jeebus, probably using his favorite lure and the sweet jon boat he got last Christmas.
Even better news is that the whole family will be reunited in Heaven some day so it's almost like it's not really even a terrible thing.
Especially if the GFM campaign covers all the 'final expenses'.
Dad assures everyone he's gonna just keep on a-rootin', a-tootin' and most of all a-shootin' with the surviving kids because that's what Jeebus would do if He accidentally shot His son in an entirely senseless and completely avoidable recreational shooting accident.
The moron was careless with his gun and has the audacity to ask for money for funeral expenses? Why doesn't he ask the NRA for money?
ReplyDeleteI no longer feel sorry for these idiots.
If they can't afford 10K, then get the less expensive package, don't expect others to pay for your stupidity.
Sounds like the family is profiting from the death and they can buy more guns with the $21K they have already collected.
I hope the father is slowly eaten up with horrible guilt for murdering his son. I hope his wife blames him for his stupidity and makes his life a living hell.
ReplyDeleteOops! says the father...and he has no remorse and STILL claims the gun had nothing to do with it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a money-making SCAM. The NRA should step up to the plate and to the "xtian" thing.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous5:27 AM: NAh...the father is not, nor WAS a Democrat. He's your typical righ-wing-guns-n-bible "god-told-me-so" trump-loving-nra-is-my-hero WHITE-ass-lazy-Republican who will not pay for his OWN son's funeral after he KILLED him. Typical.
ReplyDeleteHow does this 64-year-old man have a 14-year-old? Isn't he too old to have a child that age? My grandma is 63 and no, my mom was NOT a child-bride.
ReplyDeleteProbably pulled a Chuck Jr. And banged a young coworker.
DeleteViola!
I'm sorry, I just can't give to a killer without a guarantee the money goes to bury his mistake, his innocent son. I can picture this guy in his grief "Gun shopping" to calm his nerves.
ReplyDeleteIf you own a gun, have a contingency plan for "accidents", "mistakes" and "lawsuits". Have part of your paycheck set aside and stop begging others for your stupidity.
