New Democratic VP candidate Tim Kaine knocks it out of the park in his first campaign speech of 2016.

Courtesy of the Daily Beast:

Holy crap. He killed it.

I’m not trying to spin you. I’m sitting here in shock. Shock. Tim Kaine was unbelievable.

He was natural. He was smart. He was relaxed and funny, and he was serious. He was proud of himself and his wife and family but never arrogant. He was humble without ever being cloying in that way the politically humble can often be. He was genuine. He was unbelievable.

And part of the way through, this thought struck me: He is the perfect choice for her because he comes across as so at ease and so real. These are two things, as we know, that Hillary Clinton has a lot of trouble with. She’s too scripted, she’s a phony, all that stuff. Kaine was just so easy-breezy, so comfortable with himself and in this role, that he has the potential to wash away a decent chunk of that negativity about her.

Yeah okay, I'm fully on board now.

I mean I was of course always going to vote for the Democratic ticket, but now I can do so with substantially more enthusiasm.

And what's more Kaine is going to REALLY force a couple of those hesitant Republicans to have to seriously consider voting for the much more competent Democratic team this time around.

And seriously who else can hardly wait to see Time Kaine face off against Mike Pence in that VP debate?

P.S. Donald Trump sends his love as well.
Yeah, THEY don't look presidential.

Ewwwwww. She must have gotten ribbed in the playground. She's wearing a versace outfit from the line three years before the picture was taken, and he's wearing his exclusive made in China single needle tailored polyester. Poor, Poor Ivanka, is she still seeing a psychiatrist over this fondling problem? He patted her on the hips when he dispatched her to do her speech, she seemed comfortable, well more comfortable than Pence and the kiss that landed in the wrong place.

My feet haven't touched the floor since Kaine's speech! Liberals concerned about Kaine's banking stance need to check the fine print. Kaine wants to allow the regional banks (small banks) to loan to small businesses etc. - think black people'e applications, small businesses attempting to expand. We have a family member who dealt with the same bank lender for decades and with his successful business has been denied loans for the first time ever. Putting money (think revenue) in rental property since can't expand his primary business.

Dragonfly - your snotty "Think. about. that" was part of what elicited less than whatevs.
As if others hadn't thought about it, but we did so based on more information and facts than you apparently did. Warren has no exec experience - nor does Hillary. And that is a big GOP bashing point. Kaine has it in spades. Plus progressive chops. Warren is wittier in print than in person. I love her and her cogent arguments, but find her a bit stilted in delivery.
Now add in that MA has a ReTHUG governor who woudl appoint an interim Senator. who coudl do quite a bit of damage in six months. VA has Tery McAuliffe - YEAH!

Now also look at the long game. Warren and Clinton are the same age. SO no VP-> POTUS or at least unlikely. Kaine is 58 - Think about it.

Kaine was the better choice given the circumstances. While I personally would have preferred Warren, the reality is that the right wing hate Hillary with such serious passion that they were calling for her to be imprisoned all last week. The have framed her as a stark raving liberal commie socialist...and if she were to have picked someone who is highly liberal then they could have ramped that up even more--and used it to demean both of them and also turn any 'leaners' back towards Trump. Kaine is actually an ideal choice...he is very attractive to a certain set of, especially old school, Republicans...I am in Texas where many of the people I know are Jesuit-schooled Catholics and this guys is one of them....and these are people who ALL voted for Cruz...they hate Trump, but they hate Hillary more...so they were probably going to hold their noise and vote for Trump...although maybe not now...I bet that Hillarry is going to get a second look by many because of this choice. And he really did knock this speech out of the park. I've never seen him, barely knew who he was, but I was suitably impressed. I would have liked Warren for sure, but he is probably a much much much better choice to nab some Republicans. Let's face it, only the stupidest of Bernie voters are not going to vote for her and let Trump win...

    15. Anonymous8:21 PM

I think that the GOP has always been afraid of her -- mainly because of her gender. And that belies lots of issues that the GOP has, not that Hillary Clinton has.

I also wish that Bernie Sanders and his "supporters" would simply grow up. Didn't they pay any attention to what happened in Cleveland last week? Don't they understand what a monster the GOP has unleashed as its candidate?

10:42 - You've obviously never been to a local delegate election. The party leaders who'll lose their superdelegate status and have to go back to the local elections aren't going to be bumping average citizens. They're already full of local elected officials - city councilmen, state reps, school board members - who stack the deck in their favor by using their election mailing lists to invite people to come and vote for them and a slate of other pre-arranged low-level elected officials. They hand them a paper when they walk in telling them who to vote for. In their invite email they also mention there's a get-together later at a local watering hole. The only real little people who get to go to Dem conventions anymore are young people as defined by the party rules and this year, the Bernie delegates elected at my local eletion were real people, not elected officials because no low-level elected officials dared not support Clinton. YMMV.

Donald Trump's Acceptance Speech Reconfirmed His Fascist Authoritarianism
Donald Trump asserted in his acceptance speech for the Republican nomination that only he can "fix" the violence and terrorism that he says is threatening individuals in the United States. His campaign has largely been based on inciting fear of "the other" among white Americans. Now that he has lit that fire among his supporters and unleashed a hideous bonfire of hate, he is positioning himself as the authoritarian (just call it fascist) solution to the frenzied fear that he has created among his supporters.

So, I hope we can stop hearing blah blah blah about Bernie's peeps needing more and more and more to go their way. I mean, come on, this is enough. Bernie or one of his followers can always run four years from now, or run for other offices so as to get things done. Nina Turner lost when she ran for Sec of State of Ohio. She got crushed. No reason why she couldn't have run for another office after or can with a next election. I like some of her work, like making Viagra a pain for men to get a hold of, so that men have to go through what a woman goes through in terms of an invasion of privacy and jumping through hoops to get an abortion. I also liked her idea that rapists who get their victims pregnant should have absolutely no claim to the children, and the kids and victims should not have to deal with the rapists, ever. But Nina has been too much to stomach at times during this election. Even yesterday she was on TV complaining about Tim Kaine--saying nothing at all positive--and that only a super-progressive of her choice would do. She and others keep pushing and just don't know when to stop or to least tone things down and stop sounding so hateful and divisive.

Kaine signed onto a letter that asked to make sure that the regulations written to protect us from the “too big to fail” banks were not written in such a way as to put undue burden on Community Banks, Credit Unions or Regional Banks.

Trump also applauded Roger Ailes, the former chief executive officer of Fox News, who parted ways with the network this week after former anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against him. Ailes denies the allegations.
"I think it’s so sad. He’s such a great guy. Roger is – I mean, what he’s done on television, is in the history of television, he’s gotta be placed in the top three, or four or five," Trump said. No, no, no Gryphen! I've been a longtime follower of you, & a Democrat, but I fully disagree with Tim Kaine as Veep. I understand why she did it. She's doing it to woo Republicans.

I'm an Iowan, and from what I read, Kaine & Tom Vilsack were her top two. Vilsack isn't super progressive, but he was a great governor in Iowa. I would have been thrilled to have him on the ticket. I bet, at least, that HRC will pick Vilsack as a member of her cabinet, though. Vilsack is Obama's longest-serving cabinet member as the Secretary of Agriculture.

Tim Kaine is too conservative. I hope, at least, that HRC will give him little power if elected. But I have read that she wants someone who she can trust & work closely with in the White House. This implies that she sees Kaine and herself as a team. I don't like that at all.

But I will be voting for her come November. We can't have that orange-haired, pissed off sociopath anywhere near the nuclear codes.
