The Late Show features the best Melania Trump impersonator ever, and the Trump campaign finally got a scapegoat for "speech-gate."

I actually think that speech would have gone over better than the one that Melania actually gave.

In other news the Trumps have thrown some woman named Meredith McIver under the bus as the bitch who wrote those plagiarized portions of Melania's speech.

Here is her Everipedia page, which totally does not look like it was thrown together in a hurry.

(Some are even wondering if a Meredith McIver actually exists.)

Interestingly enough if this is all true it may cause a completely different problem.

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

But there's another problem. Notice the letterhead of the statement: The Trump Organization, which is to say Donald Trump's personal business. And notice how McIver describes herself: As an employee of the Trump Organization, not the campaign.

If Trump used corporate resources to write a political speech, that could be illegal.

"On the face of it, this looks like a corporate violation," explained Lawrence Noble, general counsel for the Campaign Legal Center. And that is "a violation of federal law. It can result in civil penalties to the corporation and the campaign." If the campaign used corporate resources "willingly and knowingly," the offense is a criminal one.

Anybody need a refill on popcorn?

I don't know if it's a wig or not but it's a strange look. The Trumps all seem to have hair that is too far down on their foreheads. Kind of like neanderthals. Coincidence? I think not.

LOL, I have a lower hairline. And yet, my dna pegs me below average in terms of my proud neanderthal heritage.

I do think people are attracted to a version of themselves. Of course, it's not like that with my 200x cousin, Mel T. I would say the only attraction is money and I don't even want to try to imagine how she has had to pay and pay and pay because of the mega-puke-production factor.

    3. I say lay off her. Melania has apologized (her speech writer, Meredith McIver has). Melania’s not running, either, her husband is. Meredith McIver might have plagiarized Michelle Obama’s speech, but this isn’t speech class. Melania Trump (or Meredith McIver) might have exercised some poor, poor judgment, appropriating (well, to you) an experience that she never lived through, but did she really do that, make someone else’s experience her own because she used THAT someone else’s words? “Give me liberty or give me death” was an exclamation by Patrick Henry, but it’s still true, isn’t it? So why can’t I cite it (with no attribution) even if it captures exactly how I feel about democracy? Plus, aren’t we missing Melania’s point? Melania had been a Slovenian, a stranger, finding life in the United States through an arduous process of immersion, assimilation and education—enduring, I reckon, all those sharp stares from natives that even Michelle Obama, a native, would have endured. It isn’t her fault that Donald Trump fell in love with her. Last, her speech writer had approved her speech—shouldn’t that have given her enough of the bona fides? Melania wasn’t in it for academicians, but to make her husband look good during the GOP convention; a carnival that we all now condemn, but admit it—by apologizing, Melania and Meredith McIver JUST HUMANIZED it and gave substance to it (as Trump’s staff scrambled for the most evasive answer it could husband), and by being honest enough to say Melania admired Michelle Obama so that “you just must put this, Meredith, it’s very good.” Academists would give Melania an “F” for cribbing Michelle Obama’s speech, but I say give her a second chance.

Forget Mr. Trump’s apologists— it was they who showed lack of character with their My-Little-Pony act and sarcasm like “if we were going to crib a speech, why crib Michelle—why not Nancy Reagan?,” as if cribbing Mrs. Reagan would have been the more conservative thing to do than cribbing Michelle. The First Lady doesn’t belong to any political party; she belongs to the White House household. Remember Maria Shriver?

No, WE had been the racists. We liked to laugh at Melania because she’s a “stranger,” who “would close the door that let her in,” for no reason other than because she’s Mrs. Trump. But we don’t know that. She likes Michelle Obama, for one, and adored that cribbed passage. In either case, so what? The owner, Michelle, hasn’t complained. Quite the reverse, I’m sure she’s delighted.

Today, Melania and Meredith McIver just sent everybody upstairs, to their room. Shamed us. And that includes me.

I also find it interesting that some other guy in the campaign already said *he* wrote it.

I hope they follow through with legal indictments so the campaign can walk it back again and say no, McIver didn't write the speech and then give us another head on a platter.

Did she write Melania's speech? I doubt it. She apparently ghostwrites books for Trump but that's a different skill than speech writing. No, someone on his staff fucked up and McIver is taking the fall. She's a Democrat so she's probably had enough and is ready to leave as long as she gets a big, fat, golden parachute, which I'm sure she will providing she signs that non-disclosure and takes the fall.

'9:02 p.m. An obscure pastor is now ranting phrases from the Constitution. In previous conventions, we would now be listening to a senator, or former president, or up-and-coming political star. This is amateur hour. But I wonder if this is deliberate. The goal is to destroy politics as we have known it and turn it into an entertainment spectacle that appeals to those who feel left out, ignored or condescended to. ...Despite working for Donald Trump who is the presidential nominee for the Republican Party, Meredith is a registered Democrat. She has ghost written several books for Donald Trump

...There is a conspiracy theory that McIver included the plagiarism on purpose to sabotage Trump. Further evidence is that a line from Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" - often used on the Internet for prank Rickrolling - was included in the speech. The line was: “He will never, ever give you up. And most importantly, he will never, ever let you down.”

O/T but look out Vermont! And this is just the beginning...

If I lived in Vermont I'd be fighting this tooth and nail!

Mega-rich Mormon wants to turn Vermont farmland into prophet’s ‘City of Zion’

...His blueprints were crafted to emulate the so-called Plat of the City of Zion, which was part of Mormon prophet Joseph Smith’s vision from 1833. Hall confessed he had more than 150 engineers working on the project. “All of the sudden it seemed like, oh my God, this is going to happen tomorrow,” she said.

She posted a blog about it on Daily UV and Vermonters went nuts, ready for a war against Hall with campaigns like StopNewVistas.org. Hall flew out from Utah to meet with them and try to explain he wasn’t about to pave paradise and put up a parking lot. Rather, he’ll erect townhomes where people can rock the magic underwear for Jesus until the end times come.

...The Old Testament tells of a city that was built so perfectly that God flew it away to heaven. Smith was studying the story and designed something similar with two friends while struck with the holy spirit. Hall found the document in the 1980s and since has sought to build it.

Donald Trump defended ghostwriter Meredith McIver on Wednesday following the revelation that she plagiarized a 2008 speech by First Lady Michelle Obama for use in Melania Trump’s speech at this week’s Republican National Convention.

“She made a mistake, and, you know, people make mistakes,” Trump told ABC News host George Stephanopoulos. “You’ve made mistakes, we’ve all made mistakes.”

McIver’s “mistake” — lifting a section from Obama’s remarks at the 2008 Democratic National Convention — could be a violation of federal campaign laws since the writer is a Trump employee.

Trump demands ‘Art of the Deal’ ghostwriter return all royalties since 1987: MSNBC

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow confirmed during an interview with a former Donald Trump ghostwriter on Wednesday that the real estate mogul has sent a “cease-and-desist” letter to him demanding that he return the royalties from his work on The Art of the Deal.

“It is true,” Tony Schwartz told Maddow. “I got almost immediately that cease-and-desist letter delivered to me by FedEx. It’s nuts, and completely indicative of who he is.”

Schwartz spoke out against the presumptive Republican presidential nominee earlier this week, saying that “if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility it will lead to the end of civilization.”

He also said that he planned to donate his royalties from the book’s sales this year to various advocacy groups, including Human Rights Watch and the Center for the Victims of Torture, among others. The letter from Trump’s organization demands that Schwartz return the royalties he has earned since the book was published in 1987.

“There’s no basis in anything legal,” said Schwartz, who is also scheduled to be a panelist on Bill Maher’s Real Time on Wednesday night.

Watch Maddow’s interview with Schwartz, as aired on Wednesday, below.

Trump has no legal grounds. It's just him being a bully.

But Schwartz has his number. He learned a lot shadowing Trump. Even turned the tables when Trump tried to stick him for half of the expense of the book's roll out party.

Tony will keep every penny and donate it where he sees fit. He's already said that the royalties will be going to charities. And if Trump tried to stop royalty payments from this point on, he'll have a lawsuit on his hands and he'll LOSE.

When it first came out today that Melania had chosen the Obama speech parts, that speech writer didn't say that she'd heard the words via phone. That phone part is way too convenient of an excuse for Melania. It allows Melania off the hook and makes it look like the writer jotted the words down and later forgot to think about where they'd come from. I don't believe for a second that anyone other than Melania stole the words. I think she presented them as her own and people have lied so she doesn't look bad. She thought nothing of the stealing of someone else's words.

I wish there was discussion of whether Donald Trump may be behind the plagarism as well as the rest of the speech which repeats his standard bragging lines. The plagarism fits his nasty style and was possibly meant to co-opt the Obamas' values and force a comparison of Michelle and Melania and associate Melania as first lady. It's Donald Trump stealing from Barack Obama's wife. Too many Trump supporters are complying with comments of how much more graceful and more sincerely Melania delivered the lines.

Greg Sargent, WashPost, has been writing about how the plagarism fits with Obama birtherism but he hasn't put Donald Trump directly in the mix.

He knew her limits and that she was not trained and skilled by the Trump brand since birth. Her vulnerability could be charming and work for this presentation.

I think he was right there with her, if not writing the whole speech he was a big part. He was confident with everything she was told to say. She had a coach or coaches.

Trump entered the stage as a winner, he said little and gave her the stage to highlight him.

Donald Trump Doesn’t Want To Be President Of The United States – He Wants Attention

...Donald Trump repeatedly proves that he only jumped into the presidential race to get attention and make the headlines. He spews hatred and makes outlandish remarks on a near-daily basis because he knows it’ll help him make the news.

He knows all of his policy proposals – to the extent that they can be considered proposals – are unworkable and borderline insane, but his goal isn’t to make sense or offer serious solutions; it’s to enrich himself.

Heck, he’s practically profiting from his presidential run.

Trump may occasionally slip up and reveal to the world he doesn’t really want to be the leader of the free world, but those of us who have been listening to him speak and watching him conduct himself for the past year already know the truth.

Trump’s presidential campaign is a monumental con job. If you think he’s in this race for anything but himself, then I’ve got a giant bridge to sell you.

I just can't help but wonder if Trump is doing all these 'goofs' intentionally? Is he doing it because his funds are dropping and he doesn't want to keep funding things himself? Does he not want to be POTUS? Why would he throw his wife under the bus who hates the public eye and never wanted him to run for POTUS in the first place?

Look at what it has done to their lives! Many of the lies he has told throughout the recent years have been brought out (and I'm sure there are many more)along with showing him to be a fraud in so many ways! Plus, he's been married umpteen times, had affairs, etc.

You would think his family would be having a very difficult time providing their 'real and heartfelt' support of their father. Or, are they just as ugly inside and out as their Dad?

Has anyone noticed that we are not seeing Don the Con's wife by his side in any of the recent media coverage? Wonder how long that marriage is going to last? I'm sure they'll never get another word out of her publically. She's been ridiculed to the max!

Donald Trump is nuts! One problem after another continues to surface and there was another tonight w/Ted Cruz not giving Trump his support during his speech as a main speaker at the Convention!

Personally, I was tickled to death he didn't! It took a LOT of balls to stand his ground and not provide one!

The Republican group at that Convention is truly the nastiest I've ever seen at a convention and I'm in my 70's. They were horrid with their rhetoric toward Hillary Clinton EVEN as to her body parts for Christ's sake!

I seriously doubt Donald Trump will be elected POTUS. He's too toxic - a liar - and, a fraud! Few Americans will want to be like the group of them attending that Convention - they represent the ugly face of America as does Donald Trump. I do not want to be a part of THEM!

Vote Hillary Clinton folks! I am!

This is NOT the first time she's used her kid as an excuse.

I seriously doubt we'll hear her speak publically again. She was thrown under the bus.

What fucking campaign would do that and lie about the words she used in her speech? Especially when they were proven to be those spoken by First Lady Obama's in 2008!

      Sickening and un-American!

Donald doesn't warrant or deserve being POTUS!

Just watched Bill Maher, and Micheal Moore who was on the panel, said that there's a chance that Trump will win. He said forty million white men are sick of a black man running this country and they will make it to the polls. If there is this chance then the rest of us Democrats better haul ass to the polls come November. Also, a guest on Bill's show was the guy who ghostwrote Donald's Art of the Deal book to tell people what a sociopath Don really is. So folks it's coming down to the wire. We need to stop Donald from hijacking our country. It won't be good.

McIver explains how she was working with Melania on the speech [BUT MELANIA SAID SHE WROTE HER OWN SPEECH?] when the candidate's wife read out some passages from Michelle Obama's 2008 convention speech [WHAT WAS MELANIA DOING WITH MICHELLE OBAMA'S SPEECH]. Those passages were then accidentally [ACCIDENTALLY?] included in the draft Trump used, for which McIver, later in the note, apologizes. Done and done; the truth has come out.

SO ARE THEY SAYING MELANIA DIDN'T SEE OR PRACTICE HER SPEECH UNTIL SHE STEPPED ON STAGE?

DO YOU THINK DONALD DIDN'T APPROVE HER SPEECH?

Can you see her as the First Lady doing model poses and every one from the Queen to Putin has seen her nude pics. For a bunch of so called religious right wingers they sure lose their principles fast. What if Michelle Obama had lewd photos in her past it would have been the downfall of him being President. Trump bitches about immigrants and he married one. Her Father was a member of the communist party. Did you hear her accent? Yet he has the gall to lump every Muslim in the same catergory as a terrorist.

She is eye candy in the world who likes reality tv and bitches about Hillary Clinton's pantsuits like they are back in the fifties and women are supposed to dress to appease men.In a world where women are constantly judged and or get ahead by their looks.Let's face it womens lib has gotten us nowhere if our hero's to this generation are plastic fish lipped selfie takers[ Bristol]. Women do not judged men by the same standards, example Bristol and Dakota with his man boobs. They underestimate just how many women out there who are sick of being judged by their weight and or their looks while they see a fat ass like Christie make it. We see the Trump family on stage not a tubby one in the bunch except for The Donald. So you go on Trump lovers but remember Elinore Roosevelt and what it meant to be a great lady with brains.Looks fade but stupid is forever..

To him, anyone looking at his wife's nude pics would just be envious because he OWNS her.

His attitude would be, I have the hottest First Lady in the world.

    From Andrew Sullivan:
Can you imagine then-Senator Barack Obama weaponizing a 9/11 widow on stage in Denver, in 2008, to rant and rage against George Bush? I’ve never seen anything more stomach-churningly distasteful on a political stage, and I’ve attended a Sarah Palin rally.

Steve Schmidt shared insight the campaign handled this badly that the public is stupid and are fools. Also the incompetency of the campaign over this and the convention can hurt by not getting donor money.

I think the more serious problem is that McIver is saying that Melania herself had read Michelle Obama's speech. Once the text was prepared (by whomever) Melania should have objected to the obvious use of Michelle Obama's words and phrases. Or is she too dumb or bottomed to know what plagiarism is? That letter, while it may indicate infractions by Trump and his henchmen (who never cared about federal law anyway) it also puts the blame for the plagiarism right at Melania's feet.

Trump's argument that he can govern the country despite his inexperience is that he will hire the right people----Considering the number of people he has hired to do work for his campaign, he has hired a very large percentage of incompetent people. One can just image what the country would be like if he had more than one thing to focus on and he would compound the number of incompetent appointments.

McIver threw the whole speech together with a paper clip, a wad of chewing gum off the bottom of Melania's Jimmy Choos and a broken light bulb.

Either that or Donald, himself, wrote it.

Melania will return with her husband to a grand entrance. Family unity is Trump's high point. She needs to be with the family again. so what she made a mistake. She may not want to say a word about that but she needs to speak and come back with fortitude.

I am curious how the campaign will handle her today. So far the staff stinks. May be the worst campaign in history. Yeah, they can do some shows and let Donald be Donald, but that is about it. They suck.
