The Sioux Falls Atheists are not playing around anymore.

Courtesy of the Friendly Atheist:

Back in May, Dale Hemming, the one-man show behind the Sioux Falls Atheists, paid for more than 20 billboards (most of which were digital) to go up in South Dakota.

Now he’s back with a collection of billboards, both static and digital, to promote science — specifically evolution and climate change.

Well so much for subtlety, but then again when has that approach ever seemed to work?

I am typically not a huge fan of the more in your face approach to Atheism, preferring instead to write my ideas down here on my own blog and inviting people to come and discuss or disagree with what I say.

However there is little doubt that this approach will stimulate conversation in Sioux Falls, and who knows perhaps even a few people will find their way to enlightenment.

Except there first fact is wrong. While ignorant christians may think the earth is 6,000 yrs old, witch doctors ( or at least the ones I met in Haiti do not believe in such drivel.

Why did whoever made this think they had to insult witch doctors? Let's be honest -- only ignorant, uneducated, and religiously biased people believe the world is only 6000 years old.

I think the "in your face" approach is important. Not abusive, but out there. Atheists are demonized and even persecuted as the biggest threat to many religions and it is time to stop it. Young people are turning away from organized religion in droves and the time is right.

    1. I agree. I was born in Sioux Falls and I am betting that the puffed up Christians are just shitting bricks. You know, the ones that can't get their amendments and commandments figured out. It has to gall them that those billboards aren't being used for more embryo pictures.

  3. Dale Hemming is the founder & sole member of "Sioux Falls Atheists". He has a long & documented history of sexually harassing much younger women, & being verbally abusive to members of the group that removed him before he started his own 5 "groups" which he is the only member of.

In the past 2.5 years he has spent an estimated $620,000 on billboards advertising his "groups". Their meetings are public and have attendance in the low single digits, with virtually nobody going twice.

This is not behavior for the larger Atheist community to model. Also, his latest signs are absolutely racist.

  4. I totally believe that things evolve but do not believe that everything can be traced to one source. The theory of evolution has big problems with too many mammal species showing up in the Cambrian period. Look up "Cambrian Explosion". There was a similar "explosion:" of flora the era preceding that. I do not know how stuff starts but it does evolve and change and adapt, but it does not follow that all things had one start. The scientific community knows this so the "fact" claim has lots of qualifiers.

Le sigh. Abiogenesis would be the single start. Evolution is the method for disparate species.
