Christian workbook gives instruction for how to explain to homeschool students why God would allow a child to be molested.

Courtesy of the Friendly Atheist:

The folks at Homeschoolers Anonymous recently got their hands on some old workbook pages used at the Institute of Basic Life Principles. That would be the Christian ministry founded by Bill Gothard, a man who resigned as President a couple of years ago after 34 women accused him of sexual harassment.

In these workbook pages, which are approximately 20 years old but still aligned with the ministry’s current teachings, students are presented with a question: “Why did God let a four year old boy be molested by a fifteen year old neighbor?”

Besides the odd phrasing that suggests the four-year-old did something to get molested instead of focusing on the teenager who committed the crime, it’s also a really weird way to talk about why God allows bad things to happen…

Well just threw up in my mouth a little.

As somebody who has dealt with kids who have been sexually abuses and molested I am horrified that ANYBODY would use this to "educate" an impressionable child.

In fact it reads like a manual for how to prepare children to be victimized.

    1. Unfortunately Nordstrom carries Ivanka Trump-branded shoes. My own personal shopper/best pal complains about that every time she enters the store. I joined her on this mission recently.

A salesman came out with a stack of shoeboxes and I insisted, loudly, "I won't even LOOK at Ivanka shoes! Take them awaaaay!"

So he did. I bought non-Ivanka footwear elsewhere.

No vouchers for private schools. Restructure Public Schools and stop the dumbing of our children. NO taxpayer money for private brainwashing of our young citizens. Stop private schools from destroying our society with ignorance.

I feel sick after reading that. You're right - 'horrified' is the only possible reaction from anyone with any decency whatsoever.

It gives an awful insight into the horrors of the religious mind. Disgusting.

I asked that question just a couple days ago. The answer I was given was that we all were in heaven. We did something really bad therefore God cast us here, and stuck us in our tiny bodies for punishment. God also sentenced us all to death. I asked "What did I do that was so bad that I was born to die?" She told me only God can tell me and I have another chance to get back to heaven. She also said that we are not in hell....it is much worse. With all that has happened here, and continue to happen, I truly believe we are in Hell. I have asked the question about God allowing children to be abused many times in my life-her answer to me was by far the most bizarre, and it did not change my way of thinking. She asked me if I was athiest, or agnostic? I said niether...I just don't give a damn! I cannot fathom the idea that anyone can justify the abuse of a child.

How horrible to go through life convinced that it is just some long, terrible punishment for an unknown crime. Why would anyone believe in a 'God' that was so evil?

Yes, there are awful things that happen and humans are very skilled at hurting each other, but there is also so much that is wonderful and beautiful in the world. What a waste to spend your whole life waiting for some final judgement.

That goes against Christian teachings that all are born innocent. Well, there is the original sin thing that is inherited, but that's not what this whacko chick is talking about. Hers is some sort of warped and twisted karma reincarnation thing that is not part of main stream Christian doctrine.

The only one cast out of Heaven was Lucifer. And he wasn't sent to hell. I was simply denied the presence of God, which is supposed to be punishment enough. Lucifer is an angel exiled from the presence of God. I'm not sure where the horns and brimstone hell came from, but I'll bet it was borrowed from some other religion in the dark ages.

This nonsense about "crying out or it's your fault" comes from the ancient desert tribe mythology of the mideast. Yes , it's in the bible, but it's also part of the traditions of those cultures.

If you're raped and don't scream, then you are guilty too.

Religions (nearly all of them) are like a cancer on the collective souls of the human race.

If it's in the bible it's old testament.

The new testament is supposed to replace the old testament. Jesus says he's come to make a new covenant. He only had two commandments. To love god and to love our neighbors as ourselves. That was it.

The evangelicals have warped and twisted christianity beyond recognition. They've created a new religion based on bits and pieces of the old testament and the (mostly forged) letters of Saul (Paul) who wasn't even a apostle and who never met Jesus. They've left Jesus out of their "christianity".

christianity was warped into a misogynistic religion when they made Mary of Magdalene a whore, so it's no wonder they're all about blame and punishment, especially if you're a woman.

It's funny they are so against the hijab. I'm sure they'd have us all wearing burkas if they could. Just look at those fundies with their long prairie dresses with long sleeves, hair in tight braids and bonnets. It's a frontier burka.

Oh my god. This is horrible!!!! It almost sounds like they believe that God thought that the four-year-old deserved it.

You know, because he was four and cute. Also, if he didn't want to be molested then maybe he should of moved away from the neighbor. *shaking my head*

It isn't surprising when someone reaches bizarre and twisted conclusions when they begin from belief in nonsense and magic. (Elijah/Elisha's magic cloak, virgin birth, miracle cures - raising the dead, stopping the sun in the sky, walking on water, fishes and loaves...)

It's not nonsense to them. The death of Jeebus is the key to the whole thing. They have to believe that Jeebus died for their sins.

Otherwise, those sick effers would have be responsible for their own actions. As long as there's Jeebus, they are free to do all the sinnin' and nasty goin' on that they wish.

      Cause Jeebus.

This is the cult philosophy that the Duggar family follows. Do you wonder why Josh faced no problems from his family for his crimes of molesting his baby sisters and sexually assaulting the babysitter?

  13. I've heard rumors for years about Gothard and little boys. This comes from someone who married into a Gothardite family (later divorced). Surprised it hasn't come out like the other stories. It's definitely grooming.

Being Alaskan Native, you can imagine how we've lived with the "manual" for decades. My dad totally hated these people because in church in their outfits they preached shit, and later they molested our children. Typical. Now, these behaviors lives on in our villages, and one teacher told me that a so called village leader told her that it was our culture when she questioned the injustice of it. So, puttin' your' hands down a kid's pants can be excused on many levels. It's the pedophile culture. That's a culture that needs to be exterminated.

Around 1978 I was on a Grand Jury in Fairbanks regarding a dad molesting his son and neighbor boy, he was arrested only because the friend told his mom. The native father used THIS excuse as a "way of life" in his culture as his defense. I am a white female and i was 18, born in Fairbanks. It was appalling to me. A TRUE ABOMINATION.

Sounds like it was written by the Father of the 15 year old boy.

If it had been a 15 year old girl, I'm sure it would read entirely different. Stoning would be involved.

  15. Repression from religious zealotry usually results in aberrant sexual behavior. That has been proven time and time again.
Get these people out of office and positions of influence.
Next they will be picking on animals.

Bill Gothard is his REAL NAME???? And he uses the "Physician heal thyself" stance on religion, what God wishes grown men molesting kids supposedly made in his image? I'd call him a repugnant pig, but Trump's got that slot, and I respect pigs too much, they're much smarter than some people I read about.
