Donald Trump attempts to shame President Obama over his response to Louisiana flooding by handing out Play-Doh for 49 seconds. Update!

Courtesy of Mediaiate:

On Friday morning, freshly-minted Donald Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway told ABC News that Trump and running mate Mike Pence would be traveling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to “help people on the ground” in a “decidedly nonpolitical event” with “no press allowed.”

As it turns out, though, there actually were members of the press allowed, and the candidate did use the occasion to attack his political opponent, and there were opportunities for photographs, but true to his word, Trump did “help out.” Pool cameras trailed Trump for his entire visit, and over the course of those several hours, Trump “helped out” by unloading a truckload of toys for 49 seconds.

If you pause the video you will see that Trump is handing out boxes of Play-Doh which I am sure most of you know is a child's toy and not something to eat or drink.

This visit is of course a purely political response to the fact that President Obama did not cut his vacation short to appear in one of those photo-ops that are supposed to demonstrate that he is personally solving each crisis or problem that arises.

For which he is receiving no of end of grief from conservative media.

Chris Cilliza of the Washington Post explains to us why the President is not rushing to get his face on the news in Louisiana:

Obama just doesn't like to fake it. If he doesn't want to do something or thinks it's stupid to do it — regardless of whether it actually is stupid — he won't do it.

In other words Obama is not willing to jump through the hoops to placate his detractors anymore.

What he HAS done is to sign the Louisiana Disaster Declaration, which he did five days ago:

The President's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in the parishes of East Baton Rouge, Livingston, St. Helena, and Tangipahoa.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

Federal funding also is available to the state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work as a result of the flooding in the parishes of East Baton Rouge, Livingston, St. Helena, and Tangipahoa.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

In other words this is something that provides services which are actually needed in the area, and having the President show up for a photo-op would really only get in the way at this point.

Speaking of self serving political gestures, this is what Sarah Palin posted on her Facebook page :

That's right, it links to an article over on Palin's favorite go to Right Wing rag comparing President Obama's reaction to this flooding in Louisiana to Bush's historically poor response after Katrina, and suggesting that THIS is WORSE.

No I am not kidding.

Doesn't make any difference, President Obama is just going to continue doing his job. Yes, even while he is on vacation. (Everybody knows that Presidents don't get REAL vacations after all.)

And what's more he is finally at a point where he really does not give two shits what his critics say about him.

And personally I prefer a President who signs an emergency bill immediately after the flooding starts to one who shows up over a week late and hands out Play-Doh for less than a minute before boarding his private jet and flying away.

But hey, that's just me.

Update: President Obama now has plans to visit Louisiana on Tuesday:

"The President is mindful of the impact that his travel has on first responders and wants to ensure that his presence does not interfere with ongoing recovery efforts," the White House said.

And THAT'S how you do it.

And all of you people on here believe the garbage this article just spewed. Total lies! If you would bother yourselves to actually watch the videos he didnt just send play doh and it was for 4 hours not just minutes. He sent water , baby formula , diapers , food and baby food , and a lot of other things that were needed. And he paid for it out of his own pocket. Not the taxpayers pocket. And also you are probably the same people that criticized Bush when he didnt show up fast enough. Face it. Obama was too busy having fun on vacation to bother with people who are suffering.

The Federal government HAS responded to the flooding in Louisiana. It's ridiculous to expect the President to show up before things are settled there. His presence will shut down major roads and take valuable first responder resources away from providing assistance. Better to approve aid from afar, send appropriate bureaucrats to coordinate and show up personally when it doesn't disrupt rescue and aid measures. To demand he show up now is just plain political partisanship and doesn't really help anyone on the ground.

President Obama Will Visit Baton Rouge on Tuesday to Address Louisiana Floods

The president has drawn criticism over the past few days for remaining on vacation despite the recent torrential downpours in the South, although the state’s Democratic governor has publicly asked the President to stay away until the emergency abates. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson has been handling the disaster on the Obama Administration’s behalf, but a Friday afternoon email from White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest indicates that President Obama is making arrangements to visit the flood-ravaged areas to determine how government should provide further aid to the state (via email from The White House):

Trump Is Losing So Badly That His Own Supporters Walk Out Of Rally While He’s Still Talking

    http://www.politicususa.com/2016/08/19/crowd-walks-trump-speaking-order-beat-traffic.html

While speaking in a Michigan city that is nearly 93% white, Donald Trump unveiled his plan to make African-Americans hate the Democratic Party and vote for him.

...Trump’s master plan to get the votes of African-Americans is to portray Hillary Clinton as a racist who is out to harm them.

The Republican nominee said, “No group in America has been more harmed by Hillary Clinton’s policies than African-Americans. No group. No group. If Hillary Clinton’s goal was to inflict pain on the African-American community, she could not have done a better job. It’s a disgrace. Tonight, I am asking for the vote of every single African-American citizen in this country who wants to see a better future.”

Trump went on to assume that all African-Americans live in inner cities, “The inner cities of our country have been run by the Democratic Party for more than fifty years. Their policies have produced only poverty, joblessness, failing schools and broken homes. It’s time to hold Democratic politicians accountable for what they have done to these communities. At what point do we say enough?”

Trump thinks that he is going to be able to make African-American voters angry enough to leave the Democratic Party and vote for him. This is the same Donald Trump who seems to believe that African-Americans only live in the inner cities.

While Republicans try to make Louisiana’s deadly floods “Obama’s Katrina,” there is only one person getting flack for being a raging opportunist — you guessed it — Donald Trump.

Louisiana’s Democratic governor, John Bel Edwards, blasted the Republican nominee for president after he showed up to Louisiana for a photo opportunity. While citizens are dying and being displaced by the thousands, Trump has decided he would exploit the carnage in an attempt to undermine President Obama.

Remember when President Obama was chided by the GOP for not calling Gov. Rick Scott for two days after the Orlando massacre? Well, flooding has been going on in Louisiana for a week and still, Donald Trump has not reached out to the governor or any state leader tasked with handling the crisis. A spokesman for the governor pointed out:

Donald Trump hasn’t called the governor to inform him of his visit. We welcome him to LA but not for a photo-op. Instead we hope he’ll consider volunteering or making a sizable donation to the LA Flood Relief Fund to help the victims of the storm.

Trump, the self described billionaire and charitable man, should donate.

While Republicans continue to bash President Obama, Edwards has gone on the record asking that President Obama not travel to Louisiana for at least a week until the state is more secure — out of respect and timeliness of those working to aid the state.

The Connecticut Mirror reports that Senators Chris Murphy and Ron Wyden have come up with a solution to Trump’s nonsensical refusal to be honest with the American people about his taxes — something even George W. Bush was able to accomplish:

Partnering with fellow Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., Murphy on Thursday pressed for votes for a bill that would require all presidential candidates from major parties to make public their tax returns within two weeks of their parties’ national conventions. The effort is part of a renewed Democratic campaign over Trump’s tax filings.

In keeping his tax returns under wraps, Murphy said Trump is violating a “40-year-standard of campaign transparency and may even be running for president to change tax laws that benefit his companies.

“This is an extraordinary moment in which the candidate may be seeking the presidency to protect his investments,” Murphy says of his effort.

There are times when the President must make a personal appearance to provide visible support to an area after a catastrophe. He (or she) must carefully balance the need for that support with the logistical chaos that such a visit will cause.

The Governor requested that the President wait until the worst of the emergency has passed so as to not interfere with the response, and that is exactly what he is doing. In the meantime, he signed emergency funding and sent his top emergency response staff to help with the recovery.

If he arrived too soon himself, he would have been criticized for taking first responders away from the crisis where they were truly needed. If he waited too long, he would be criticized for not caring. Either way, he is condemned so he does what he thinks will help the most and interfere the least.

Be honest...no matter what he did, you would have found fault with it.

Much of Florida and the southern areas of the Gulf Coast states will be underwater in the next 100 years but unfortunately people just can't up and move overnight.

Insurance companies will stop insuring properties that are doomed in the near future, in fact they already have for people who live a certain distance from the coast and are at low elevations in respect to normal sea level.

People with the means will relocate but some will be climate change refugees that are relocated by the government. This region hosts some of the poorest in our country.

Catastrophic events will continue, but many will not be able to afford to rebuild without insurance and will relocate to less vulnerable areas.

I f*cking guarantee that FEMA folks want no part of VIP photo ops. They are a MASSIVE distraction in any domestic or international disaster.

Remember old Sarah's glory days when she could fly to a disaster area for a photo op? Sarah Palin will never ever be lucky enough to arrange one, but a presidential tour of a disaster is a BFD to put together and the governor of LA needed those resources hands on.

Sarah, "hands on" means the governor and his cabinet doing the actual work.

The man is absolutely clueless, and Sarah, using that "hugger in chief because that's what I do, hug people" photo of shrub shows she's still cray cray after all these years. President Obama deserves a vacation, when is Congress going to lead by example and actually do their jobs? No one peeps at how much paid vacation they get. Trumpunzel is making a big deal over it, and President Obama will go on his own terms. When he does, compare and contrast the two. BTW, Trumpunzel, you're running against Hillary Clinton, not Barak Obama.

Based on a little research, Bush's Katrina visit was on September 15th. Katrina hit on August 29th. Sarah wants to give the impression that Bush ran down there immediately, but that wasn't so. He probably was following the same principle to stay away so first responders could focus on immediate priorities.

Also too Sarah, you just reminded everyone about your plate-of-cookies response to your own state's crisis. Brilliant.

Donald Trump = Marie Antoinette. They don't even remember when Hurricane Katrina hit, the Bush administration wasn't exactly on the ball. Barbara Bush even made some deragatory remark about poor people, and she was speaking about the people who were in the flood. The Republican party soon forgets.

Marie Antoinette was not the clueless blonde bimbo commonly thought of. Nor did she suggest the people who were starving eat cake.

Donald Trump is more like Nero.

I make $44,000 a year and, because I work in a school, don't get paid between the end of June and the middle of September.

A friend posted on Facebook this afternoon a request from someone she knows who is with the Army Reserve in Baton Rouge, asking for donations of specific items or gift cards. Tomorrow I will be sending a gift card down to LA to help out. It won't be much, but I feel the need to do what I can.

Trump is supposedly worth billions and the best he can do is hand out Play-Doh that someone else paid for??? The man is simply repugnant.

The person making the request is from the 321st Sustainment Brigade in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

I was told that gift cards from Walmart or Target are best because they're conveniently located in the area. They can be sent to:

      Lisa LeMaire
      1735 Foss Street
      Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802

If you have any questions or would like to donate other goods, her number is (912) 977-8580.

      Thanks!

I can't bring myself to watch the video. I may see my dinner for the second time tonight. But I know that it was a crass, clueless, and cynical gesture executed for a purely political motive of "making a point"(That being, 'Hey, look at ME! I *CARE*!!! President Obama can't be "bothered" to interrupt his vacay!').
Well, Drumpf, actions speak louder than words. If you think that *thinking* people (and there are FAR more of them than you suspect) haven't caught on to your act - and that's all it is, an ACT - YOU HAVE A BIG SURPRISE IN STORE. November 8 is coming.

Trump cannot even hug people genuinely, looks like he is trying desperately to get away from them. He is about as sincere as Palin and we all know W did a horrible job with Katrina! Get real! Trump is all about the photo op and even a person with a limited intellect should see that. Palin and Trump are frauds.

Her high school friend aide that went to Washington State, John (?) when she was supposedly at the University of Idaho eight miles away in "Sarah Palin: You Betcha." Eyeball roll from him!

Let me tell you something, Miss $arah Heath Palin nobody. Remember the Ice Bucket Challenge done in your front yard because it was the "cool" thing to do? Google him and his struggle; how his family and friends have fought in Congress to get laws passed. Did you donate anything other than a stupid video? HAH.

In your "did nothing" Katrina rant, Steve Gleason also organized "Backpacks For Hope" for people coming into town for a home football game FOR the kids Katrina where we amassed hundreds from people coming into town before Steve was even diagnosed ALS. I know; I helped box them up. Go see "Gleason," the movie out now.

Tell me HOW you have the right to bitch when you sit on your @ss in Alasssska doing nothing. You have never spoken out about special needs children, although you said you would be an advocate, you robbed your grandson Trig of the life he could have had if you had only parted with the money to do so. What an absolute bitch, and the question remains, let alone naming him after his condition, is this what you call pro life?

Your new son-in-law is an idiot and it will come back to bite him, too. Alaska run? Lord knows, mini-me can't be separated from mommy to go back to Kentucky. Good luck with that.

    Bottom line: SHUT UP.

Sorry if I'm repeating: the Louisiana Governor specifically asked the President to wait for a while before visiting, because all the people, cars, helicopters, police security, etc. that such a visit would entail would take away from the ongoing efforts to save people. He cited the visit a few weeks ago of VP Biden before the rains. The President knows that an imperial appearance takes away people and resources that should be spent on the emergency.

Look how many disaters President Obama has put up with in his time in office .

Eight God Damn years! While the Rebublican Party insists global warming does not exist.Look at the cost of it. And this President has managed to not let us go into total economic chaos.

No President before him has had to put up with so much, and for that he needs to be recongized as a true patriot.

His wife has been called "MOOCHELLE" and a man. Do you remember the photo of watermelons on the White House lawn early into his Presidency? We better remember because we now have Trump a wimp spoiled brat who can't handle real life.

Obama kept his cool through all of that and that is the sign of a leader. I cannot imagine the pressure of being the first black President trying to appease everyone but knowing you cant and so you govern as an American first an foremost and that is what he has done.

Hillary Clinton, same damn thing. She will be judged harsher because she is a woman. People will question her resolve but i as a woman wont.

It's about time a mother and a woman is President. Never underestimate a mothers resolve, ever. Or any woman's for that matter. All the stereo types of women not being analytical and riding on emotion is bull.

Hillary Clinton is very analytical. In this day and age where you still have Kardashions you would think women have not gotten very far and they haven't really if you look at this society now and what is shoved up women as important.

Teach your Daughters well because they are bombarded with crap like Daily Mail where it is all about bikini photos and fake boobs. We have actually gone backwards in society as far as women go. We allow are daughters to display their boobs in prom dresses and who is that for? Them? Teach your daughters self worth.

When the day comes when i will see men in speedos at the Prom and judged by their junk then i will call it equal.

We were in a flood back in the eighties in our village. There was silt everywhere. We used the icebergs that landed on our doorstep to melt water to clean the house. The Red Cross showed up with much need food and water. Especially fruit. Everyone was tired, dirty, and hot because the sun was hot that year. The only thing that registered was when supplies came into our village. I can't imagine anyone inhumane enough to show up with playdoh. Too much to bear.
