Black bear visits downtown Anchorage. Sure why not?

Believe it or not this happens with some frequency.

Not typically downtown, but all around Anchorage proper.

Quite a few years back we had an unfortunate incident where a local radio station was giving updates on a visiting bear's location.

People started showing up to get a look at the bear and things got so dicey that the cops had to shoot the bear.

Huge public outcry, and ever since then folks have shown a little more restraint.

I have to admit that I found this video over on Palin's Facebook page, which I think marks the very first time I have borrowed anything from there without mocking it or making fun of her for posting it.

Good chance it will be the last time too.

  1. Very happy to see a peaceful outcome. I knew you wouldn't post it if it wasn't G.
We are dodging a bear family every other day in this small town and hoping for a nice ending like the one in Anchorage.

Last year (or was it the one before) some redneck hit a bear with his truck and tried to finish it off with a rock. He dragged the still breathing bear into the back of his pick up and made our local paper. Not sure if the cops caught up with him or not.

It is a baby and Terrified! It tried desperately to go under the fence. What did F&W do? Tranq him and take him to the mountains? You know his mom is somewhere looking for him.
My heart went out to that poor bear! TERRIFIED!

    2. It's a black bear. Black bears don't get that big and this one looked about a teenager. In my opinion he'll be better off anywhere else.

Ironic Palin posted the video of a wayward bear but when one of her kids goes off the rails...nothing!

At first when you mentioned a Black Bear was in Anchorage, I thought it was a code name given by the Mama Grizzly? I thought it was going to an African-American gentleman there to secretly see the Mama Grizzly in Wasilla. My mistake.

That's a young bear having a good time exploring.

It was also speeded up. Bears don't move that fast.

I wouldn't be so apologetic about stealing this from Palin's Facebook page. You can be sure she stole it from someone else's.

We get them around here at times, most of it comes from not so smart people who like to leave their trash cans without lids, put food out for the squirrels, birds, rodents, feral cats etc.
The rangers come out, tranquilize them and take them to some other town, in five days, the bears are back.

Was that ol' screech, sneakin' into the city to do some shoppin', now that she has some shekels after sellin' her hacienda?
