Did you all catch Donald Trump's love letter to Vladimir Putin last night?

Courtesy of Vox:

Earlier in Wednesday’s exchange, Lauer ran through a laundry list of Putin’s sins.

"He's also a guy who annexed Crimea, invaded Ukraine, supports Assad in Syria, supports Iran, is trying to undermine our influence in key regions of the world, and, according to our intelligence community, probably is the main suspect for the hacking of the DNC computers," the moderator said.

Trump responded by arguing, in effect, that Barack Obama was just as bad.

"Do you want me to start naming some of the things that President Obama does at the same time?" Trump asked.

What the what? Did he seriously defend Putin by suggesting that the American President did worse things?

Seriously that right there should have been enough to disqualify Trump from being the GOP nominee, but he went on.

"When he calls me brilliant, I'll take the compliment," Trump said during a televised town hall meeting Wednesday.

"He does have an 82 percent approval rating according to the different pollsters," Trump said. "By the way, some of them are based here."

That’s not true — only one poll shows that level of support, and it was conducted by a Moscow-based nonprofit called the Levada Center — but those details are entirely beside the point. Given the chance to back away from his praise of Putin — a position that has alarmed many leading Republican national security figures — Trump chose to instead double down.

"If he says great things about me, I'm going to say great things about him," Trump said. "The man has very strong control over a country. It's a very different system and I don't happen to like the system, but certainly in that system, he's been a leader. Far more than our president has been a leader."

Jesus Christ somebody get these two a room.

So to clarify, this candidate for the most powerful political position on the planet has demonstrated admiration for a man who undermines our interests around the world, supports some of the nations with whom we are in conflict, and is currently hacking our computers in an apparent attempt to affect our democratic election process.

How, how, how in the name of Ronald Wilson Reagan is this man the nominee for the party that once spent decades fomenting fear of Russia to justify obscene military spending?

  1. Anonymous11:34 AM

Gryph, where did you get that photoshopped picture of Trump on stage with Ivanka and her ginormous ta-tas?

You showed a picture of Ivanka and Donald. I believe in the original picture, Donald has his hand on Hillary Clinton's hip?

No wait, my bad, Donald's hand is on Taylor Swift's hip.

Donald's manhood must be small. Donald's hand is so small in the third picture.

You're all wrong. In the fourth picture Donald obviously has his hand on his own hip.

Scroll down further, John Travolta is behind Ivanka and no they are not in a Threesome Position.

Scroll down some more, did The Donald bite and sucked Ivanka's neck?

  2. Anonymous11:50 AM

Lauer was a complete wuss with tRump. Right there, he (Lauer) should have doubled down and corner that a$$hat. But he didn't. Instead, he did everything he could do to make Hillary look bad.

Why can't we have people like Rachel Maddow be a moderator for any of these debates/interviews? Or Tamron Hall? Both of these women have 'BALLS'! Neither one of them would take sh*t - neither from Hillary, nor from Don The Con!

    1. Anonymous12:15 PM

Trump would never do an interview w/either Rachel or Tamron. He'd be afraid to do so as he'd not come out the winner!

I would especially love seeing Rachel Maddow get a hold of him.

    2. Anonymous12:19 PM

      Or Joy Reid

  3. Anonymous11:51 AM

"Do you want me to start naming...". Seriously? This is how professional adults talk? Oh wait, I forgot...yam.

    1. Anonymous11:29 PM

The correct response should have been "Yes, would you please name five that are as egregious as Putin's."

Everytime Trumps says something as outrageous as this he should be called on it. "Yes, please list, please name, please whatever." Because he can't. He can't list or name anything. Those are boring facts and details and his mind doesn't retain boring stuff. *IF* there was anything to remember in the first place since we know he just makes stuff up and then farts it out his ass.

  4. Anonymous12:09 PM

The Russians Donald likes are white. WHITE.

    Just sayin.

    1. Anonymous1:29 PM

I was in Russia last June, our group asked another American that visits frequently about the lack of non-whites on the streets in Moscow; although we saw non-whites in the hotels as maids and waiters. His response was telling, and probably speaks in part to Trump's adulation of Putin. He told us, the non-whites come from the Russian Far East to work through the tourist season. After the tourist season is over, they are expected to return to the Far East. He said that when the police see non-whites on the streets after the season, they will ask for credentials, and be told they must depart the cities immediately. Trump's future vision of America.

    2. Anonymous2:27 PM

Libs... always the racists, always the ones that feel the need to classify and categorize people by skin color.

    3. Anonymous2:51 PM

2:27 You are one of those disgusting regressives who classifies people by rich or poor. I'm gonna guess that you are barely getting by, but believe that you will be rich is only Trump could be president.

      HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA (believe on....)

    4. 2:27. You're an idiot.

  5. Anonymous12:11 PM

Am I the only one that thinks Trump has committed treason? He is not pro America when he supports and respects the likes of Putin!

The guy should be arrested, put on trial and done away with in some manner to where we never hear a word from his lips again!

A 'small' prison cell would be sufficient where he could spend the rest of his miserable life!

    1. Anonymous1:32 PM

I would call Trump a traitor for many of the things he has said and done during the campaign. His comments during the Forum last night definitely border on treason. I agree that he should be tried and locked up.

    2. Anonymous1:48 PM

I think he is on the verge of committing treason.

    3. Anonymous2:20 PM

You people throw around the word treason as if you have any clue what you are talking about.

Trump is going to win the presidency, and it will be hilarious to come back and read the sorrows when that happens.

Shouldn't have put all your eggs in the Hillary basket. She is a terrible candidate and a terrible person. The DNC and Clinton Inc duped you all.

    4. Anonymous2:48 PM

2:20 Trump repeatedly raped a 13-year old and doesn't pay his vendors. I'll take a person who eats grandmothers for breakfast over Trump. So sorry 'bout your luck for being an idiot and supporting a traitorous pedofile.

    5. Anonymous3:00 PM

Sure thing 2:48. You drink a big cup of fantasy coffee this morning? Get ready to start saying 'President Trump'.

  6. Anonymous12:15 PM

Gryphen, your blog roll has gone awry. Is it a Blogger thing?

    1. Anonymous12:45 PM

Dang because it's next to useless now. I used to link to 5 or more sites from you blog.

    2. Anonymous2:01 PM

You can still see the most recent postings from the blogroll, it's just that you have to sift through a bunch of old stuff as everything shows now.

Also if you frequent those blogs from the blogroll you could save those in your favorites, bookmark them or check your history to access them so that you don't have to rely on Gryphen's blogroll to find what interests you.

    3. Anonymous2:39 PM

I took a trip down memory lane with some of those blogs I hadn't been to in years.

      Watergate Summer where are you???

  7. Anonymous12:16 PM

"If he says great things about me, I'm going to say great things about him," Trump said.

This is how easy it is to flatter a screaming narcissist.

    1. Anonymous12:41 PM

Or as a former CIA director put it - that's all it took for Putin to co-opt him.

    2. Anonymous12:46 PM

And Trump is so caught up in his own bubble of importance, he truly believes every word.

    3. Anonymous2:02 PM

So now all leaders in the world know just how easy it is to manipulate Trump. what an idiot. And he says he won't share his fabulous ideas because he doesn't want to let the enemy know wh at he is up to. Like he's so cagey.

    4. Anonymous2:06 PM

Maybe Hillary should shift her strategy and start effusively praising the Donald!

    5. Anonymous8:59 PM

I was stunned when I heard Trump say that. He is an idiot and a narcissist.

  8. I'm kind of a political junkie, but just like Palin, I cannot listen to this scumbag speak without going mental. i think, like palin, what pisses me off listening to them being interviewed, is that nobody calls them out on their lies at all, or at least, not often enough. The MSM in this country, is more at fault than any other entity for the failures of our country and its politics. There is no fourth estate, anymore, just corporate steno pool.

    1. Anonymous8:57 PM

It is a sad commentary of our society that lies are acceptable and truth is of little importance or value even in electing a leader.

  9. Anonymous12:31 PM

Maybe it's just me, but I only appreciate compliments from people I respect. If I were to receive compliments from the likes of Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, Pol Pot, or their modern-day incarnation, Vladimir Putin, I personally would think there must be something wrong with me.

I think Trump would start strutting and preening if he received a compliment from the likes of Beelzebub himself.

    1. Jodie1:40 PM

Agreed. Glad I am not the only one.

    2. Anonymous11:35 PM

That's because he so admires Putin.

I'm sure he'd equally admire Satan and be thrilled if Satan released a statement saying how much he admires Trump and hopes to be spending a lot of time with him in the future.

  10. Anonymous12:32 PM

Matt has a b$ner for tRump.

    1. Anonymous1:35 PM

I think Lauer's biggest problem is that he knows if he is critical of Trump at all, then Trump will call him a 3rd rate journalist and other fun names. That is a problem for most of the mainstream media - they are afraid of being criticized and called names by Trump.

    2. Anonymous1:52 PM

And tRump has a boner for Putin.

    3. Anonymous3:39 PM

A boner? IF he can still get it up that is! He's 70, over weight and I'm sure on blood pressure medication!

    4. Anonymous11:37 PM

The question then is, would Lauer rather be called a third rate journalist by Trump or a sell-out incompetent ass kissing hack by all of his colleagues in the media? Because they are currently crucifying Lauer for being such a biased jerk.

  11. Caroll Thompson12:33 PM

Donald Trump is a traitor to his country. He trashes the Generals currently serving in the military (something he was too chicken to do with his five military deferments) and praises the Strongman of Russia.

  12. Anonymous12:33 PM

He has the mind and ego of a child. Putin plays him for the fool he is.

    1. Anonymous11:49 PM

Is he smarter than a 5th grader?

  13. Anonymous12:35 PM

I cannot watch his goofy hands waving around as he reads somebodies (who?) words and ideas from a teleprompter. He has a pathetic spastic speech delivery, his voice sounds like a garbage disposal, his stank face looks like a rump. And he lies lies lies.

    1. Anonymous1:36 PM

You forgot to mention that his mouth is shaped like an anus, especially when he is talking.

  14. Anonymous1:03 PM

    ... so, so obviously...

    1. Anonymous11:38 PM

He may need it when his contract is up and it is not renewed.

    2. Anonymous10:29 AM

Matt lauer looks like a muppet now. Back in the 90's he was supposedly the hottest dude. Whatever. He's a joke, and he always was to me. I was surprised that he got tapped to moderate that latest town hall deal. Best thing he's done was to piss off palin on camera when he asked her about Tracky's drunken domestic violence charges.

  16. Anonymous1:40 PM

And now Mike Pence is all lubed up for his Putin love session...

    1. Anonymous6:22 AM

Pence and Putin share their hatred of the LGBT communities. Does Pence want the same thuggery that happens in Russia with regard to LGBT's?

  17. Anonymous1:58 PM

Trump proved at last night's forum that he knows nothing and should not be the GOP nominee. At this point it's hard to tell who is stupider - Trump or Palin!

  18. Anonymous1:58 PM

Jim Wright at Stonekettle has a pretty good take on Trump's "performance" last night. I haven't seen any of the movies that he uses as reference but I still somehow got his point.

  19. Randall3:00 PM

"Do you want me to start naming some of the things that President Obama does at the same time?" Trump asked.

Yes, goddamn it - let's hear you say it right here, right now - right during a presidential debate, you slimy bastard.
Let's hear you slander the President of the United States while asking the citizens of the United States to vote for you...
Show the world the kind of lying, cheap-shooting candidate you really are.

...and then let's watch the polls.
    Yes, Donald, let's hear it.

    1. Anonymous11:41 PM

More like "Yes, please name them." and watch Trump's deer in the headlights blank stare until he sputters some excuse or starts making up something outrageous pulling it out of his ass.

Trump says this stuff because he never expects to be called on it.

    2. Anonymous5:35 AM

No he will simply lie and say his words where taken out of context. Deflect and vomit up some ultra patriotic wordsalad, maybe talk about bad Islamic people. He also might throw out some rhetoric about non Caucasian people to rile up his brain dead base.

What Really Happened at Donald Trump's Intelligence Briefing

As U.S. officials cast doubt on Donald Trump's claim he read the "body language" of intelligence officials at a recent briefing, NBC News has learned exclusive details of what unfolded in the room — and of reported tension between one of Trump's advisers and the briefers.

Six current and former senior officials said they were aware of friction between retired Gen. Michael Flynn, one of the advisers Trump brought to the briefing, and the officials who conducted the briefing. Four sources with knowledge of the briefing — including two intelligence officials who spoke to people in the room — said Flynn repeatedly interrupted the briefers until New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie intervened.

Both Christie and Flynn denied the officials' version of events, with Flynn calling the report "total b__s___" and Christie calling it "a complete work of fiction." ...

Meanwhile, four people with knowledge of the matter told NBC News that one of the advisers Trump brought to the briefing, retired general Mike Flynn, repeatedly interrupted the briefing with pointed questions.

Two sources said Christie, the New Jersey governor and Trump adviser, verbally restrained Flynn...

    1. Anonymous6:28 PM

Flynn was a junior intell officer during the US invasion of Grenada. I was part of the Army study group that wrote the lessons learned -- See "The Rucksack War: U.S.Army Operational Logistics in Grenada," 1983, by Ed Raines.

We interviewed Flynn a time or two. I ran into him a few more times before I retired in 1995. He was an insufferable asshole.

      This from Wikipedia:

      -- quote

      Association with Russia

In retirement, Flynn was described by the Washington Post as "not hostile to Russia,"[23] while Michael Crowley of Vox described Flynn as having "an odd affection for Russia and its authoritarian government."[24]

After retiring from service with the U.S. government, Flynn began appearing semi-regularly as an analyst on RT, a Kremlin-aligned English-language news outlet.[23][24][25] In 2015, Flynn attended a gala dinner in Moscow in honor of RT, where he was seated two seats away from Russian president Vladimir Putin.[25] Before attending the event, Flynn gave a paid talk on world affairs to a group; Flynn defended the Russian payment in an interview with Michael Isikoff.[25][26] Journalist Michael Crowley of Politico reported that "At a moment of semi-hostility between the U.S. and Russia, the presence of such an important figure at Putin's table startled" U.S. officials.[25]

      -- end quote

      He's a goddam mole.

    2. Anonymous7:16 PM

Why on earth is Flynn even allowed to attend intelligence briefings with Trump? It is bad enough that Trump receives the briefings.

    3. Anonymous8:08 PM

      Flynn ~ Sheep dipped?

    4. Anonymous11:50 PM

I suspect that Trump's briefing was different than Hillary's in that Trump wasn't told anything of significance or sensitivity. In fact, they may have made stuff up just for him to see if it gets passed to Russia.

      Maybe Flynn suspected that.

      Who cares?

I think Obama & Co. are right to keep Trump in the dark for the security briefings. He's a loose lipped oaf who can't be trusted to keep his big maw shut.

When did Melania become a Super Model? Before or after Donald?

    Where is she today?

    Washington Post
After convention stumble, Melania Trump has largely vanished from campaign

By Mary Jordan and Stephanie McCrummen PoliticsSeptember 8 at 2:09 PM

It was late July when voters last heard from the potential first lady of the United States. Melania Trump delivered her speech at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, and then later stood with her husband, balloons dropping, waving to the crowd in what is starting to feel like a premature farewell to the campaign trail.

Since then, she has not spoken publicly and has largely vanished from view, leaving a trail of questions and voids in her personal biography.

It was only Wednesday night — after a seven-week absence — that Melania Trump appeared at a campaign event, sitting in the audience as her husband addressed a national security forum.

Her long silence followed the fiasco over her convention speech, parts of which turned out to have been plagiarized. Then she took her website down after revelations that there was no record she had obtained a college degree, as her site had claimed. And while the issue of illegal immigration is central to her husband’s platform, neither Melania Trump nor the Trump campaign has produced documentation to prove how the Slovenian immigrant got a visa to work in the United States or how she obtained her green card in 2001....

A news conference at which her husband promised to address immigration questions has yet to happen. And there is no sign that Melania Trump will play a significant role in the final stretch of her husband’s campaign — a striking departure from tradition in which candidates’ spouses serve as key surrogates in the effort to turn out voters....

Melania, born Melanija Knavs, began calling herself Melania Knauss as she started her modeling career. She kept trying to make a name for herself, albeit with limited success at first, according to people familiar with her career at the time.

Bernarda Jeklin, who ran a Slovenian women’s magazine, met Melania when she was 22 and entered the magazine’s Face of the Year contest. Jeklin said Melania did not stand out in the crowd of so many promising models....

An exception came in 1998, when she attended a Fashion Week event hosted by Zampolli — and met Donald Trump...

[ So Melania met Donald in 1998 and then poof became a Super Model. Was she a Super Model before meeting Donald Trump? Read next paragraph ]

At the same time, Melania’s association with Trump was leading to higher-profile assignments, including the January 2000 cover of British GQ, where she famously posed nude on a fur rug in a photo shoot on Trump’s plane. She was in the 2000 swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated, and when she married Trump in 2005, she was photographed wearing a $200,000 gown on the coveted cover of Vogue.

[ Did Melania get more Super Model work after becoming Mrs. Trump? Where would Melania K be today if she wasn't sleeping with the Donald? Posing with other naked women or using her Architecture Degree? ]

[ Wikipedia- She subsequently appeared on the covers of Harper's Bazaar (Bulgaria), Ocean Drive, In Style Weddings, New York Magazine, Avenue, Allure, Vanity Fair (Italy), Vogue (following her marriage to Donald Trump),]

Is Donald Trump just plain crazy?
What Donald Trump is doing on the campaign trail

    By Eugene Robinson
    August 1

During the primary season, as Donald Trump’s bizarre outbursts helped him crush the competition, I thought he was being crazy like a fox. Now I am increasingly convinced that he’s just plain crazy.

I’m serious about that. Leave aside for the moment Trump’s policies, which in my opinion range from the unconstitutional to the un-American to the potentially catastrophic. At this point, it would be irresponsible to ignore the fact that Trump’s grasp on reality appears to be tenuous at best.

Begin with the fact that he lies the way other people breathe. Telling a self-serving lie — no matter how transparent, no matter how easily disproved — seems to be a reflex for him. Look at the things he has said in just the past week.

Trump attacks U.S. foreign policy, political press corps on state-owned Russian television network

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized U.S. foreign policy and the American political press corps Thursday during an interview on RT America, a state-owned Russian television network....

The interview came as Trump faced sustained criticism for praising Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he has regularly done on the campaign trail — to the discomfort of many members of his own

When King asked Trump if he believed reports that Russian hackers may have targeted Democratic Party databases as part of an effort to influence the American presidential election, Trump said he did not believe that to be the case.

“I think it’s probably unlikely. I think maybe the Democrats are putting that out. Who knows? But I think that it’s pretty unlikely,” he said. “I hope that if they are doing something I hope that somebody’s going to be able to find out so they can end it, because that would not be appropriate.”
