Ka-ching Ka-ching! Fox News throws Gretchen Carlson twenty million dollars to make her go away.

Courtesy of TPM:

Fox News has settled former host Gretchen Carlson's sexual harassment lawsuit against ex-CEO Roger Ailes, the network's parent company confirmed Tuesday. It did not announce the terms of the settlement agreement, but Vanity Fair, which first reported on the settlement earlier Tuesday, pegged it at a whopping $20 million.

As part of the network's settlement on Ailes' behalf, the parent company, 21st Century Fox, offered Carlson an unprecedented public apology.

“21st Century Fox is pleased to announce that it has settled Gretchen Carlson’s lawsuit. During her tenure at Fox News, Gretchen exhibited the highest standards of journalism and professionalism," the statement read. "We sincerely regret and apologize for the fact that Gretchen was not treated with the respect that she and all our colleagues deserve."

Two anonymous sources familiar with the discussions told Vanity Fair that settlement agreements have also been reached with two other women.

Carlson gets 20 million dollars AND a public apology from Fox News?

And there are at least two other women who reached settlements as well?

As if that was not enough good news it seems that Roger Ailes apologist, Greta Van Susteren just got the boot:

Greta Van Susteren is exiting Fox News after 14 years, the cable news network announced Tuesday.

“We are grateful for Greta’s many contributions over the years and wish her continued success,” Fox News co-presidents Jack Abernethy and Bill Shine said in a joint statement.

Van Susteren, who was an outspoken defender of former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, exits the network on the same day the company settled a sexual harassment lawsuit against Gretchen Carlson. Back on July 8, before Ailes stepped down, Van Susteren told TheWrap: “If there were something weird going on … I would have heard it.”

Last month, Van Susteren fired back at people who criticize her for defending Ailes.

“Let’s first get something straight: I did not sexually harass anyone (of course.). And second, I did not know about any sexual harassment and keep it secret,” Van Susteren wrote on her GretaWire blog.

Oh yeah, I'm sure the timing of this is just a "coincidence."

Well if you count this along with the news about Carlson's payout, and Phyllis Schlafly's passing, this is turning out to be a pretty good day for women's rights.

Let's be honest, if you think about the women at fox news the way the men at fox news did, by their looks, then you would not have seen nearly as much reason to go after greta in a sexually harassing way. SO there's that but I seriously DOUBT that she knew nothing about the harassment of others. To be further honest, we should admit that she was on that network because she would carry water for those they wanted her to. Married to an ambulance chaser who helped the wasillabilly to boot. Who is she going to carry water for now? OH, that's right her buddy roger is going to help dumpsterfire get an alt-right network off the ground.

This. It's rather obvious that Fox is most eager to dump its more aged female faces. Nothing has changed

They certainly need some replacement for Ann Coulter. She's getting a little long in the tooth for the liking of these conservative men.

I'm surprised palin hasn't lied and said ailes made a play for her since it's proving to be so lucrative. It's probably not too late though. So I guess he either put her in the same category as greta ("not with someone else's) or he did receive bj's from her but he has her recorded on his I-phone propositioning him so she can't say a word. lol

I'm sure we'll wake up to the news Palin is suing Fox - there's too much chance of money being paid.

Why hasn't Sarah piped up in defence of Ailes? either she won't admit to sexual favors or... Ailes didn't hit on her.... Which is worse?

Sarah you still have time to claim Roger sexually harassed you also ... get Fox to pay you a few million more.

Not to defend Greta for supporting Roger Ailes, but this does show how stupid some people on the alt-right are.

They believe in corporate personhood, and that the private sector can do no wrong, but when push comes to shove, Fox shows them how big an asshole a corporation that supports only right wing lies and propaganda can be. Fox buys out their opponents with multi-millions of dollars, rewards its top managers with golden handshakes even when they are scum, and craps on one of its defenders simply because she didn't have anything to take them to court over.

I wonder how Greta feels if she's being let go without a lucrative package, while those who were victims at Fox are being set up financially for life just to shut them up.

I'm not defending any of them - they all deserve each other.

Since she spent so much time defending Ailes and Fox I doubt she'll turn around and sue them for firing her because she was old or ugly or defended Ailes.

I'm sure if she disputes it, they'll claim her work was not up to par. They'll probably have performance reviews to back it up.

Bye Greta. Don't let the door...

Greta's husband is hinting about a possible lawsuit against Fox.

"John P. Coale, said she used a "key man clause." The clause allowed Van Susteren to leave the network if Ailes left the company. Regarding why his wife used the clause, Coale said: "There's more than meets the eye," and added there was a potential for litigation in the future."

"The Donald Trump campaign Tuesday walked back remarks the GOP nominee made Monday denying any communications with Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi before his 2013 donation in support of her campaign.

According to Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks, when Trump told reporters he "never" spoke to Bondi about "it," he meant that he never spoke to her about Trump University, which Bondi was considering suing at the time of the contribution.

“His comments were in reference to any discussion about Trump University — not the donation,” Hicks told Politico."

    All righty then.

Even though there was a solicitation for a donation to Bondi's campaign chest, a conversation, tRUMP made a donation (an ILLEGAL -according to the IRS- donation from one of the tRUMP charities),a fine from the IRS for the illegal "charity" donation and no charges, the whole thing was and still is a great big coincidence.

...Van Susteren then whirled instantly back to politics when she saw the creation of the political version of Natalie Holloway, in Sarah Palin. Immediately after Palin was named the GOP vice presidential nominee in 2008 she quickly slapped together a documentary-style special on Palin which killed in the ratings. From then on, Van Susteren rode the Palin ratings wave as far as she could...

Saw Greta on TV today talking about her leaving. She didn't look too confident and at times was at a loss to explain why she stayed while it was going on. Why didn't she bring up not knowing then? Can't have it both ways, Greta, it's a either you knew or you didn't type of thing. Something tells me she's pissed Roger didn't try anything with her. I suppose she'll land on CNN or get a gig with Breitbart. Wow, how will fox survive without a Gretchen AND a Greta?
