Donald Trump attempts to instruct Nevadans on how to correctly pronounce the name of their state, and of course gets it completely wrong.

Courtesy of NBC News:

Donald Trump on Wednesday gave a lesson on linguistics to a Nevada crowd on how to pronounce the name of the state — and got it wrong. "NevAHHHHdah," Trump told the crowd in Reno, saying "nobody says it the other way."

The correct way to pronounce the name of the Silver State is "NevADDah." Then-state archivist Guy Rocha told NBC News back in 2008 that the latter way is the correct version to pronounce the state name.

Former State Assemblyman Harry Mortenson in 2010 admitted in a resolution calling for both pronunciations to be accepted that only those outside the state use Trump's version, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

What a condescending POS.

You know it's one thing to mispronounce the name of a city or state, I think we all have done that at some point in our lives, but it is quite another thing to lecture the people of that state about how to pronounce their name, and do it incorrectly.

The guy is a fucking circus clown.

I'm a lifelong Nevadan and thrilled this clip is being played on our airwaves 'round the clock. He blew it, as this is a sensitive issue for many locals. Rachel even did a piece on her show last night. Hillary and Trump are running neck-and-neck (I know, it's embarrassing), so hopefully this will help move the needle, even if only by a little. I mean, if his racist, sexist, xenophobic, idiotic, childish behavior won't make Nevadan's pay attention, maybe mispronunciation of our State's name will do it! SMDH.

Definitely xenophobic. This is the New York pronunciation.

No silly, he's going to Ore-gone.

Doesn't this jackass have a casino/hotel in Vegas? He hasn't done enough business in Nevada to know how to pronounce it properly, or was he just being a condescending prick as usual?

He has to lie about everything. There was obviously no friend who "was killed" for mispronouncing Nevada. If that had happened, Trump would have known how to pronounce it.

Funny, how Kerry was lambasted for saying Lambert Field back in 2004 and other Dems have been skewered when making such a flub, but when the GOP do it it's no biggie.

Well, I loved hearing Katy Tur mention the wrong pronunciations Trump has made, including the other day when he said aCUmen instead of ACumen. He clearly had never used the word even once in his seventy years until he read it from the teleprompter.

    1. Actually, acumen is pronounced both ways, but I've never heard it any other way but A cu men -- but however he says it, he sure doesn't have it:

      noun
the ability to make good judgments and quick decisions, typically in a particular domain.
      "business acumen"
synonyms: astuteness, shrewdness, acuity, sharpness, sharp-wittedness, cleverness, smartness, brains, etc.

No wonder. His vocabulary is fourth grade level without his handlers feeding him words to say on the teleprompter.

That was my thought, too- that he saw it there on the teleprompter and away he went.

It's obvious that Trump hasn't moved much in business circles in the US. Probably he spends most of his time yelling at the Chinese and the Arabs.

Ask him how to pronounce harassment.

It's actually HARRIS-ment but most say Har ASS ment.

If anyone should be required to know the proper pronunciation, it's Trump.

Trump needs to be slaughtered - in more ways than one! What an idiot! He didn't even hear the audience yelling the correct way to pronounce "Nevada"!

He's nothing more than a fat-assed, bloviated, ridiculous, black-souled, racist, heathen!

His clock is going to be cleaned in more ways than one when Hillary Clinton wins the race for POTUS hands down!

Vote Hillary Clinton! She IS qualified for the job of POTUS and will be a good one to follow the two, great terms of President Obama (whose approval ratings keep going up!).

For the third time since "The Atlantic’s" founding, the editors endorse a candidate for president. The editorial board concluded that Trump "appears not to read". The case for Hillary Clinton is easily made.

I'm sure some of his crowds are large. However, since they are staged events, many of the rallies are limited to a portion of the arena or other site so they can make it look larger than it is. Believe me, there are a whole lot of republicans who are not publicly acknowledging that they plan to support Clinton in November.

Paul Ryan is going to campaign for Trump in Wisconsin.

I guess neither of them realize that Wisconsin is voting for Hillary?

I guess Ryan thinks his Republican base will consider this a good thing and re-elect him. I'm hoping they'll consider him an ass and replace him the next

We in California also say NevADDa.

Probably because we respect it enough to pronounce it the way the natives tell us to.

This is very rich....I have lived in Las Vegas on and off the last 15 years, he really made a super ass of himself. The latest news of his history of business failures are finally seeing the light of day. I remember seeing the headlines that he was too big to fail (banks had to give him more money) or they would lose their shirts. What he managed to do was use most of the bank's loan money for that loss of a billion on his personal taxes. He is a disgusting person in every way you can think of.

Trump is like a pile of manure, the more you stir it, the more it smells. Give him enough rope. What chutzpah educating a state on the pronunciation of it's name. I went to school with a prick like him, he'd read up on a subject then join the group and spout off "knowledge" "Hey, did you know there are other galaxies and suns?" And he'd go on to name the ones he remembered. My room mate dated him, and he had this tome called "The Lincoln Encyclopedia of essential information" on the coffee table with tabs on universes, suns, and other topical bullshit.

Is it possible that he was trying to channel Jackie Chan as a joke? I forget the name of the movie. But, does he believe that running for president is a stand up comedy gig? Oh so once in office he will treat it as a reality show? He is so much out of touch. I tried to think of a single redeeming or positive characteristic that he might have. I failed.
