FBI to reopen Clinton email server case based on "new evidence." Update!

Courtesy of Politico:

The FBI on Friday dropped a bombshell on Hillary Clinton’s campaign less than two weeks before Election Day, announcing that it is reviewing new evidence in its investigation into her use of a private email server as secretary of state.

In a letter to several congressional committee chairmen, FBI Director James Comey wrote that, “In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to this investigation.”

Comey said he was briefed on those emails on Thursday and that he “agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.”

He did not specify where the additional emails came from.

"He did not specify where the additional emails came from."

Gee could it be from...oh I don't know...Russia?

If true that would mean that the FBI was facilitating the ability of a foreign power to impact the selection of this country's next President.

That is completely unprecedented.

And even if that is not the source, this is hard to see as anything other than a political move by somebody who is very upset at the prospect of Hillary Clinton being elected President.

I think we know that this investigation, like every one before it, will find nothing criminal and will only waste taxpayer money and the FBI's time while creating new talking points for the Trump campaign.

Not at all suspicious is it?

Update: The New York Times is now saying that these emails were found on a device in the possession of Anthony Weiner:

Federal law enforcement officials said Friday that the new emails uncovered in the closed investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server were discovered after the F.B.I. seized electronic devices belonging to Huma Abedin, a top aide to Mrs. Clinton, and her husband, Anthony Weiner.

The F.B.I. is investigating illicit text messages that Mr. Weiner sent to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina. The bureau told Congress on Friday that it had uncovered new emails related to the Clinton case — one federal official said they numbered in the thousands — potentially reigniting an issue that has weighed on the presidential campaign and offering a lifeline to Donald J. Trump less than two weeks before the election.

Okay so at this point I have no idea what could be on Weiner's electronic device,  or what impact if any this might have on the campaign.

"The Associated Press reported that the emails the FBI is investigating were not from Clinton and did not come from her private server. NBC’s Pete Williams also noted that the emails were not from Clinton and were not withheld by Clinton’s campaign. He reported that the investigation is not related to WikiLeaks or Russian hacking. "

But it won't matter. The Deplorables will be on this like white on rice.

Remind me again how the e-mail thing would be over with and Hillary was fully vetted and didn't have any baggage.

I'm not talking about qualifications. I'm talking about electability.

The Democrats have pulled their down ticket money out of Florida, leaving Patrick Murphy stranded. They've decided Marco Rubio is too far ahead and not worth the money to fight.

Now if anyone remembers, the DNC chose Patrick Murphy to challenge Marco Rubio. They endorsed Murphy and put their money behind Murphy in the primaries. Murphy was running against Alan Grayson. Now say what you will about Grayson, he has experience and he is just the attack dog we needed to run against Rubio. Grayson would not have pulled any punches and would have slung as much mud as possible about little Marco not doing his job, promising not to run, etc. etc. Grayson has his uses and this would have been an excellent one. But Grayson was cut loose and the DNC chose Murphy instead. Now look where we are.

They're right to pull the money out of Florida now as it would be a waste. But I can't help but wonder if Rubio was running against Grayson instead of Murphy, if the race would be as close as North Carolina, where the Democrats are shifting their money.

Bitter? Maybe. I remember when the Democrats decided that John Kerry should be the nominee and they cut off Howard Dean. How did that work out?

The FBI announced on Friday that it is reviewing more emails related to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s handling of sensitive government information.

The New York Times reported the emails the FBI is investigating were found on devices belonging to Clinton aide Huma Abedin and former Congressman Anthony Weiner. Weiner had been under federal investigation over allegations that he traded sexually explicit messages with an underage girl. Weiner and Abedin separated in August.

In a Friday letter to members of Congress, FBI Director James Comey said the agency, “in connection to an unrelated case” had learned of email that “appear to be pertinent to the investigation.” Comey said the FBI “cannot yet assess” whether the material “may be significant” and that he “cannot predict how long it will take us to complete this additional work.”

OT"Almost every public and private metric suggests Trump is headed for a loss, possibly an epic one. His frustrated demeanor on the campaign trail suggests he knows it. Yet even as he nears the end of his presidential run, his team is sowing the seeds of a new enterprise with a direct marketing effort that they insist could still SHOCK the world on Election Day." after Trump locked down the GOP nomination by winning Indiana’s primary, Ivanka's husband>Kushner tapped Parscale, a political novice who built web pages for the Trump family’s business and charities, to begin an ambitious digital operation fashioned around a database they named Project ALAMO."When Bannon joined the campaign in August, Project Alamo’s data began shaping even more of Trump’s political and travel strategy—and especially his fundraising. Trump himself was an avid pupil. Parscale would sit with him on the plane to share the latest data on his mushrooming audience and the $230 million they’ve funneled into HIS campaign coffers." he’s begun speculating that the election will be like “Brexit times five,” "more than 100 people, from European data scientists to gun-toting elderly call-center volunteers. They labor in offices lined with Trump iconography and Trump-focused inspirational quotes from Sheriff Joe Arpaio and evangelical leader Jerry Falwell Jr."
    THEN THIS>
On Oct. 24, Trump’s team began placing spots on select African American radio stations. In San Antonio, a young staffer showed off a South Park-style animation he’d created of Clinton delivering the “super predator” line (using audio from her original 1996 sound bite), as cartoon text popped up around her: “Hillary Thinks African Americans are Super Predators.” The animation will be delivered to certain African American voters through Facebook “dark posts”—nonpublic posts whose viewership the campaign controls so that, as Parscale puts it, “only the people we want to see it, see it.” The aim is to depress Clinton’s vote total. “We know because we’ve modeled this,” says the official. “It will dramatically affect her ability to turn these people out.” By Election Day, the campaign expects to have captured 12 million to 14 million e-mail addresses and contact information (including credit card numbers) for 2.5 million small-dollar donors, who together will have ponied up almost $275 million. “I wouldn’t have come aboard, even for Trump, if I hadn’t known they were building this massive Facebook and data engine,” says Bannon. “Facebook is what propelled Breitbart to a massive audience. We know its power.”whom Cambridge Analytica has categorized as “disenfranchised new Republicans,” are younger, more populist and rural—and also angry, active, and fiercely loyal to Trump. Capturing their loyalty was the campaign’s goal all along. It’s why, even if Trump loses, his team thinks it’s smarter than political professionals. “We knew how valuable this would be from the outset,” says Parscale. “We OWN the future of the Republican Party.” To win access to them, Trump negotiated a partnership. The party’s online fundraising specialists would use his name and keep 80 percent of the revenue, while Trump’s campaign would get the remainder. “This is exactly what the party needed the RNC to do—building assets and infrastructure and the nominee gets to benefit from it,” “Jared’s a big part of what gave me my power and ability to do what I’ve been doing,” says Parscale, who sees himself as more than just a staffer. “Because you know what I was willing to do? I was willing to do it like family.”
Digital strategists typically value contact lists at $3 to $8 per e-mail, which would price Trump’s list of supporters anywhere from $36 million to $112 million. Trump will be better positioned than the RNC to reach this mass of voters because he’ll own the list himself."

FBI Director James Comey under fire from Democrats and Republicans after Clinton email announcement

FBI Director James Comey is coming under fire for his terse announcement on Friday that in light of new information, his agency is reviewing its findings from the investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State.

TheHill.com said that to many observers, Comey’s statement “appeared too vague for an announcement sure to shake up the presidential race with less than two weeks until Election Day, critics on both sides of the aisle claimed.”

James Comey throws stink bomb into election, Trump displays expected levels of grace and dignity

If FBI Director James Comey was not trying to create maximum damage with his brief, vague letter, he certainly gave it a good effort. Not only did Paul Ryan and Jason Chaffetz presciently have (inaccurate) statements ready to go at hand, the statement was issued while Hillary Clinton was still in the air, giving Donald Trump a clear field on which he could break, break, break like the wind.

With Jim Comey under-handing a Day-Glo political football just moments before he stepped on stage, it’s not surprising that Trump lumbered out to show his usual tact and restraint.

The new emails weren't from her server, weren't from her and apparently have something to do with Anthony Weiner. But IT WON'T MATTER.

Trump and the Republicans are already using them to smear Hillary. And it will work.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-hillary-clinton-emails_us_58138ed8e4b064e1b4b220de

“They are reopening the case into her criminal and illegal conduct that threatens the security of the United States of America,” Trump said. “Hillary Clinton’s corruption is on a scale we have never seen before.”

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/paul-ryan-fbi-clinton-emails_us_58138c2ee4b064e1b4b21d9e

"In response to the FBI reopening its case into Hillary Clinton’s emails, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) renewed his call Friday for James Clapper, the U.S. director of national intelligence, to suspend briefings for the Democratic nominee.

“Yet again, Hillary Clinton has nobody but herself to blame,” Ryan said in a statement. “She was entrusted with some of our nation’s most important secrets, and she betrayed that trust by carelessly mishandling highly classified information.”

Ryan said the decision to reopen the case was “long overdue,” given what he called Clinton’s “reckless use of a private email server, and her refusal to be forthcoming with federal investigators.”

“I renew my call for the Director of National Intelligence to suspend all classified briefings for Secretary Clinton until this matter is fully resolved,” Ryan said."

(But nothing about denying access to the one that is closest to Putin and is probably owned by Russian mobsters.)

It won't matter they're not from her server. It won't matter she didn't write them. The damage is done.

"Speaking at a rally in New Hampshire, Trump said he had learned about the letter just minutes before taking the stage.

“Hillary Clinton’s corruption is on a scale we have never seen before. We must not let her take her criminal scheme into the Oval Office. I have great respect for the fact that the FBI and Department of Justice are now willing to have the courage to right the horrible mistake that they made,” he said. “This was a grave miscarriage of justice that the American people fully understood and it is everybody’s hope that it is about to be corrected.” "

Personally, I'd like to know if the FBI director is a Republican. I find the timing and the disclosure very questionable and I'm not the only one.

"Matthew Miller, a former spokesman for the Department of Justice, said Comey’s Friday disclosure was inappropriate."

"The New York Times reported the emails the FBI is investigating were found on devices belonging to Clinton aide Huma Abedin and former Congressman Anthony Weiner. Weiner had been under federal investigation over allegations that he traded sexually explicit messages with an underage girl. Weiner and Abedin separated in August."

I think this is Comey trying to prove he's not biased by....being biased.

Yeah, Trump creamed himself and Kellyanne is falling all over herself with the giggles.

Nothing is going to fix this. Not even releasing these new e-mails showing it's just more of Weiner's sexting.

    The damage is done.

No amount of more women coming forward about Trump's groping are going to make any difference. That is OLD news. This is NEW.

How one Congressman punked the media on the FBI letter about Clinton’s emails

No, the FBI did not say it would ‘reopen’ its investigation.

...Though nothing in Comey’s letter said the case was being reopened, an array of news outlets repeated Chaffetz’s incorrect characterization. NBC News initially posted a story with this framing, later changing the headline and lede to drop the claim. USA Today tweeted, falsely, that the FBI director had said the probe was being reopened. The Hill and Bloomberg also got the facts wrong.

And yet another woman comes forward about Trump. Won't matter. It will be all about the e-mails now.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/barbara-corcoran-donald-trump_us_58129823e4b064e1b4b188b5?section=us_politics

"Businesswoman Barbara Corcoran, who serves as a judge on the ABC show “Shark Tank,” said Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump once talked about the size of her breasts during a business meeting."

Because that e-mail bombshell was dropped on Friday it will have all weekend to fester and blow up so that any walk back or clarification on Monday will be lost. The damage is done.

Clinton will probably still win. But it won't be the landslide we had all hoped. That will undermine her even more. Trump is doing his best to undermine her authority when she becomes president. He's moving on delegitimizing the election and damaging her as much as possible.

Because that's just the kind of guy he is. As he said, if you cross him he'll screw you over ten fold.

Guys like 1:46pm are ultimately threatened by lesbians because really, two women know how to get each other off, when a man just "thinks about baseball for a minute or two while heaving and sweating on top of us, leaving us ready to spend the next 10 minutes with our "battery operated boyfriend" who actually gives us a real orgasm.

Face it, you guys are good for only one thing, providing baby batter for procreating, and ya know what, we can get that from a sperm bank without having to even talk to you, much less deal with your sexual inadequacies.

I find it so hilarious that so many men are now threatened by their uselessness.

I am enjoying this immensely, especially when they resort to using the term "misandry" that warms my cockles so much, so very much.

Usually releasing any statement or information on a Friday afternoon is a dead giveaway that it is something that someone is trying to bury. The fact that Comey released this statement early enough on a Friday that it has had a chance to permeate everyone's newsday, but late enough in the day that the Clinton folks won't really have enough time to formulate a cohesive response before everyone heads off to Friday evening/weekend activities is another little piece of evidence that this is a political move.

If there was truly any substance to any of this, why wait until Friday afternoon to release it? Because, if they released it on a Thursday, Clinton's folks would be able to refute it and knock it down on Friday. This way the last thing many people are going to remember before tuning out for the weekend is "Hillary did something else (non-specifically) sneaky".

This is pure bullshit. Comey is going to need to go.
