It is rare that I get the opportunity to say something positive about Alaska's two Republican Senators. But now I can.

Courtesy of The Hill:

Alaska’s two senators have resigned from leadership posts in their state’s Republican Party after denouncing Donald Trump, according to a new report.

Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan voluntarily stepped down over the weekend as honorary members of their party’s state central committee, The Associated Press said Wednesday.

The AP said it confirmed the pair’s decision Tuesday with Murkowski campaign spokesman Robert Dillon. Party officers are expected to back party candidates.

Murkowski and Sullivan both sharply criticized Trump last weekend following the release of a controversial recording of the billionaire.

“I cannot and will not support Donald Trump for president,” Murkowski tweeted last Saturday, one day after the tape’s emergence. "He has forfeited the right to be our party’s nominee.”

“I will continue to campaign for Republican candidates across Alaska and the country,” Sullivan said in his own statement after the footage’s emergence.

Look I am not going to pretend that this is not a political calculation on the part of these two, especially Sullivan who I don't think makes a move without a Koch brother pulling one of his strings, but having said that this is still a good thing deserving of at least a little praise.

However what is even more interesting about this move on the part of Murkowski and Sullivan is that they surely did a little internal polling to see how this would affect their future in Alaska politics. (Remember Murkowski is running for reelection in 2016.)

The fact that they went forward with this indicates that they felt there was more of a positive to doing so than a negative.

Now I am not saying that Alaska is going to go blue for the first time since 1964 (Oh please, oh please, oh please!), but it most certainly means that Trump's support among Republicans up here is disappearing faster than those SarahPAC donations.

O/T What is the deal with a new tape of Howard Stern show with Trump and Ivanka? Howard said something like “so you are a sexual predator”. Donnie and Ivanka started laughing and someone (donnie or ivanka?) said yes.

I saw this on Canadian CBC national news, haven’t seen anything on US tv, but I don’t have cable. Peter Mansfield, the anchor, said it was proof that Donnie admits he is a sexual predator.

Sorry, don't trust either one of them as far as I can throw them! They are doing it for their own benefit! And, most of all because Murkowski is up for reelection!

Turn Alaska blue - way past time in doing so!

But all these months Murkowski and Sullivan have been silent as Trump was heard admiring Vladimir Putin, suggesting that nuclear weapons should proliferate even among rogue countries, demeaning women and people with disabilities, vilifying people in this country who are Muslim, insulting our allies, attacking the freedom of the press and on and on. The GOP tolerated it all - because their base really likes Donald Trump.

What it all tells me is that there's something rotten - not just in Donald Trump but in what the GOP has become over the last five decades but especially since Barack Obama became out president. Covert racism and nativism and misogyny and warmongering have been growing in the hearts of the Republican Party since Nixon was president. Donald Trump has simply presenting those ugly traits as his soul - the soul of the 21st century GOP.

    Honest history books 2016:

The US elected its first female president, a woman who belongs to a party that has the media buy the balls and tells reporters to make Trump look like a good man, a party where 20 something get murdered to cover up DNC fraud. The firt female president has a history of sabotage, hit men, career dishonesty, financial scandals, international scandals and is married to a serial abuser.

She won because she told the media "make BIll Clinton part deux look like a suitable president and good man." It covers up all her nasty deeds.

Better check the FACTS, 3:50 AM. Bill Clinton was an outstanding POTUS and is loved around the world.

The media and Republican party have tried to bring the Clintons down for eons...it STILL isn't working!

Hillary Clinton was an outstanding First Lady, Senator of New York and Secretary of State.

Hillary Clinton will do one Hell of a job as our next POTUS! Our first woman POTUS and the most qualified to hold that position!

She is also receiving wonderful support throughout the country!

So, four weeks before the election they suddenly decide, AFTER assessing THEIR political futures in doing so, to withdraw support and they're supposed to be given accolades? Moose nuggets!

Exactly. I would have given them credit if they had come out in opposition of Trump BEFORE the polls show him tanking the ticket (and the party). This is more hand wringing and false sincerity.

Gov. Pence’s claim that all of the Trump accusers are lying and that Trump’s character is beyond reproach not only put his own credibility on the line but also the future of the Republican Party.

Murkowski happened because of her daddy, and Sullivan happened because the Koch bros. have an agenda up here in Alaska. He's their puppet and Murkowski seems to work hard for her money. I want to trust her but she screwed me by not endorsing Begich last time. I voted for her when Miller was running. Kinda can't trust her now. She's somehow in it for herself.

Nate Silver has Arizona going slightly blue. I was puzzled but then I started reading some of his articles.

Arizona is linked to Utah because apparently there is quite a Mormon population in Arizona and the Mormons are livid at Trump and his sexual deviancy.

Now Utah has Evan McMullin in play. He is starting to draw even with Trump and Clinton and there is a slight possibility he could take Utah from them. There is other fallout from this but it brought me back to Arizona and why it's swinging.

The Latinos and Blacks are against Trump. The Democrats are against Trump. I'm not sure how many of all three plus other demographics are in Arizona. But now you bring in the Mormons and the state is in play. Arizona doesn't have Evan McMullin on the ticket and writing him in wouldn't give him Arizona. So a protest vote would simply be swinging from Trump to Clinton, or maybe a third party that would still be enough to give the state to Clinton.

    Thus, Arizona blue.

    http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/

Yesterday Arizona was R + 0.3 or something like that. Now it's D + 0.2. It may swing back. The single NE and ME electorals were blue yesterday and today they are back to red. They could still swing again. Not that 2 will probably make that much of a difference. Clinton has 338 and Trump has 199.

But it is possible that Evan McMullin in Utah is swinging Arizona to the blue.

Look at Ohio Dan. He looks like an idiot. Alaska couldn't resist throwing out a perfectly intelligent senator and installing this Alaska hater in the seat to do zip.

Let me just remind you all that Dirty Dan Sullivan has no principles and like never will have. Gryphen, you have no cause for pride on his account, not for a second.

And please, Lisa Murkowski hung on and hung on because it's fine for Trump to be a crook or a child rapist, she can support that 100%- it's only negative publicity that caused her to "abandon" him. She doesn't give a shit how many women he attacks. She has no conscience. I wouldn't be proud on her account if I was you.

Donald's an open book, all one needs do is observe him and you know he's beyond help. Unfortunately, money can't buy class. The love of his life, the main squeeze in his fantasies, was stumping for him in Pennsylvania, but dodged any and all questions about the allegations, calling him "A great example of family values" No one could pay me to lie like that, the man's a cad.
