Students walk out, start arguing, after Texas professor informs them that they are all descended from Africa. Update!

Courtesy of The Tab:

Some Texas State University students in Dr. McGee’s Cultural Anthropology class left the lecture hall after he said in a lesson that all living people originated in Africa. As the exiting white students left the classroom, some remaining in class reportedly called after them, “Black Lives Matter.”

The lecture started out with a message from the professor that the day’s class would be a lesson on race and it would be particularly interesting so everyone should listen, said Justine Lundy, 20. The professor began talking about the Black Lives Matter movement and how it had come about before stating that all living beings descended from east Africa.

“It was dead silent,” Lundy said, before a student retorted with a “sarcastic ‘sure.'”

At that point, students began to leave the class. A few disagreeing students who didn’t leave the classroom in a huff stayed behind to argue with each other.

“A lot of people left,” said class attendee Karene Taylor, 19. “It was embarrassing.”

Of course the professor is right, but you can understand the frustration of some the students.

After all it is so much harder to hate a group of people once you learn that you are all related.

Besides how dare this professor not recognize what these students surely know to be the absolute and undeniable truth. Which is that the first people came from the Garden of Eden and that women are made out of an old rib that Adam was not really using anymore.

Pfft, and he calls himself a "professor."

Update: Snopes is not denying that a walk out took place, only that it was on a smaller scale than indicated by the original article.

Still worthy of discussion in my opinion.

The story is TRUE. The students did walk out.

TRUTH: ALL of mankind originated from AFRICA.

Don't lie. The story is out there for all of us to see.
Raw Story did not say it was a hoax. Raw Story and other publications confirm that it did happen.

5:24, if mankind originated in Africa, then from where did womankind originate?

      I'm being sarcastic, or course.

Time to retire 'mankind' please, unless you're speaking of adult male humans.

We females make up more than fifty percent of the population.

AJ needs some basic English lessons. Anyone think that prof is going to be losing his job? It's TEXAS, home of the white dominant male. It's Texas, where the State Board of Education warns against teaching critical thinking in public schools, and where they rewrite US history to exclude any mention of George Washington Carver, Harriet Tubman, or any women's achievements. So I bet these students really ARE that ignorant of the facts of all of our heritage. They'd probably be shocked to learn that Jesus was dark-skinned and Jewish. (and never carried a rifle or owned an SUV big enough to seat the Brady Bunch.)

Coming up on that time of year, Sally, when creches for sale in stores have a blonde-haired, blue-eyed baby Jesus in the manger!

Well, we all know that historical expert Megyn Kelly would be appalled to learn that Jesus was brown and that Santa might be too!

You need to look closer at this story. Many of the students are saying this is NOT the reason they walked out. It was just the point where they had heard enough. It sounds like the professor may have been pushing his own political point of view. The media has over hyped this story.

You can't have it both ways. Either they walked out because of what they were hearing, or they walked out because of what they were hearing. And I had lots of profs who shared their views with us. It's college; it's not high school. I had a SS teacher in 5th grade who was against the VietNam war, and talked to us about it. We were all pretty ignorant of anything like that at the time. Unfortunately, he was fired the next year.
Had a great English teacher in high school, and a woman got him fired because he left one of those moral dilemma problems on the board while he took some of us to a debate tournament. She was appalled that the students might have to think about someone other than themselves (or maybe it was that one of the characters was a prostitute, and her son's virgin ears would be ruined?) She also tried to get another very fine teacher fired because she dared point out that her 16 year old son was reading at a 6th grade level, and so deserved the F she gave him that 6 weeks. How would mom know. There was not one novel in the house. Not one nonfiction book. Just Bibles and Heritage Foundation magazines.

OH poor snowflakes, they couldn't stand to listen to a point of view other than their own? Are they going to walk off jobs because others or their employers say something they don't like?

    3. This is not a "point of view." It is proven scientific anthropoligal fact, all homo sapiens came from Africa. But then, these people believe that the earth is 6,500 years old, so I guess for them, yeah, it is a point of view.

Actually Julie Brown, the way anthropology facts work... is that someone makes a big claim supported by their own theories and findings, and the scientific community gloms on or they don't. Don't be surprised when in 30 years, a new discovery or series of discoveries claims all humans originated in Asia, or urope, or wherever.

I suggest everyone in the world take the Ancestry DNA testing $99. And then come back for discussion. This will clarify your heritage. It is time for America to sort out and straighten out our DNA Heritage, immigration and migration history. It is the missing link to all American Families where they came from. It is mandatory that we connect Americans to their ancestors in other parts of the world where they fled, escaped or migrated from to America.

Well I turned out to be lily white, however I was under the impression that my blackness was just too long ago to really register. Also, aren't we white people actually the result of a mutation? Black skin does seem better as its more resistant to skin cancer.

My guess is that the ones that walked out were either homeschooled or previously attended a private "christian" schools( because in the south many of those are used by people to keep their snowflakes from having to sit next to other children with darker skin).
For those that disagree with my stand that southern religious schools are used to segregate whites from blacks should spend some time investigating it on their own. There are many fascinating articles out there on the explosion of these schools when desegregation happened and how they continue to this very day. Not a pretty part of our countries history, but it may also help you understand the rage against a black man being president.

Thank you for mention homeschooling; I was waiting for someone to say it. I think you are probably right on target.

It's only been, oh, how many years now, that proof has been around that all of us are descendants of Africans? Of course that little fact is likely overlooked by homeschooling proponents. Better to "learn" from the Bible instead since all the facts impressionable young people need to know are right there.

Genesis basically describes Eve as an afterthought - a solution to an oversight. If you'd like to be kicked out of "Sunday School" (as I was), ask why Adam already had a dick and balls. That story couldn't pass my sniff test when I was ten. Since then, geneticists have demystified the spread of humans, but if you're from TX, you probably regard DNA as a liberal lie.

The question that got me in big trouble in catholic school was: If there were o people, would there be a god?
      BOOM!
Straight to the principal's office, parents called, etc. They never did answer y question, not one of them and that was when I decided it was ALL bull shit and never looked back.

My road to Damascus began when I asked "If Adam and Eve were the first two humans, who did their children marry?" I was about 8 y.o. My question was answered by an uncomfortable silence.

Of course as a child I wondered who Adam and Eve's children married, but I never wondered why Adam was originally designed with a penis, which would so obviously not have been needed without Eve. You were a brilliant ten year old!

Extra sad is the only wish fulfilled on Jordan's baby registry at Target was one package of washcloths.

What is unfortunate is that "Africa" conjures up knee jerk reactions/ notions that equates to possibly being dark skinned.
It would be wonderful if that were the case. I am white.
However our taught ignorance and our selfishness to be better then someone else creates racism.
Or the cast system. We are disgusting hypocrites, sometimes. Damit!
