Courtesy of The Guardian:
Jill Stein, the Green party’s presidential candidate, is prepared to request recounts of the election result in several key battleground states, her campaign said on Wednesday.
Stein launched an online fundraising page seeking donations toward a multimillion-dollar fund she said was needed to request reviews of the results in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Before midnight EST on Wednesday, the drive had already raised more than the $2m necessary to file for a recount in Wisconsin, where the deadline to challenge is on Friday. The campaign had reached $2.5m by 5am EST.
Stein said she was acting due to “compelling evidence of voting anomalies” and that data analysis had indicated “significant discrepancies in vote totals” that were released by state authorities.
“These concerns need to be investigated before the 2016 presidential election is certified,” she said in a statement. “We deserve elections we can trust.”
(Since this article was written the amount raised hos increased to over 3 million.)
I'm not gonna lie when I first heard about this I was a little suspicious of Stein's motives.
She has always seemed like a loose cannon to me, and this seemed like it could just be an attempt to keep herself in the news.
But since she WAS one of the presidential candidates she is in a unique position to demand a recount, and clearly her fundraising is on point, so I am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and see how this thing plays out.
Now before any of you get too excited I still do not think this will change the outcome of his election in Hillary's favor. She has already conceded and if the Democrats tried to fight this thing I do not think it would work out well for anybody in the end.
However I would certainly like to know what exactly happened in this election, and if we do find those anomalies perhaps we can ensure that our next elections are free of manipulations.
Given the popular vote count and what look like real abnormalities to the experts, Hillary had every reason to go with a recount but I doubted she would because of not wanting to make things messy for the country. (And you know Trump would be so pissed that he’s start the “lock her up” thing up again.) Stein’s request was the perfect solution. The #s show that without Stein and Johnson in the race, Hillary probably would have had all of the states that Stein wants a recount done on:

Ah yes, another amateur opinion fluff piece targeted for people just like you. Hope for the hopeless. Good for the clicks. Not so much for any reality or factuality.
DeleteGet over yourself! 9:16, you don’t know what you’re talking about, and you can’t even differentiate between fact and opinion. CNN reported factual findings and then what could possibly be done in response to those findings. People whose job and specialty it is working with numbers saw seeming abnormalities, ones that were deemed worthy of investigation. There are rules and procedures for elections, and the findings gave reason to do further investigation and make use of those rules and procedures. But, of course, anyone with a brain understands this.
DeleteBut the fact is is that the election was rigged. Results were false. Rigged. False. Comprendo? And Americans do not knowingly allow the United States of America Presidential Election to be knowingly rigged. Nope. Americans do not allow our country to be hacked or attack without kicking some dust up. Nope. not America. This is not Russia nor china nor any other type of communist country.
DeleteSo by every legal right Americans must DEMAND that this election be recounted, a new election completely or whatever it takes to make it correct. Those involved must be charged and brought to justice immediately. It is not ok, normal or acceptable to accept such a crime. And allow a political party to commit treason, espionage and divide this country with outrageous liars and unetheical disgusting outcast.
It is an opinion piece disguised as reporting for dim bulbs such as yourself to get all excited about 10:48, because networks are lazy and are trying to get as much attention and clicks and stretch out of this election as they can.
DeleteThis is all go-nowhere stuff fluff.
Trust me. Or don't. It doesn't matter. Trump will be sworn in as President no matter how many of these articles you read and copy paste.
1:59 I hope your confidence in Trump being sworn in January 20th works out as well for you as it did for those of us who knew Hillary would win the initial election.
DeleteThe problem is that these states have GOP Governors so they can drag their feet. I think the Clintons have a deal with Stein since it would have the same effect but be somewhat less direct from the Dems. The Dems need to push back -- HARD and I'm glad they are doing this.
ReplyDeleteThere morons are throwing money at Stein and she can't even guarantee any recounts.
ReplyDeleteWho keeps the money if there are no recounts?
Welcome to the wilderness morons.
wilderness [comma] morons. !!
DeleteThere are times when action is taken quickly--and anyone who is paying attention knows that WI's deadline is tomorrow. It's not like Stein will simply keep the money. Surely there is a way of handling things. It might include info that those who have donated got when they donated. Without donating I can't know for sure, but it's almost certain that the donors know exactly what is going to happen to their money if a recount is denied.
DeleteI too was wondering who will keep the money. Seems the right thing to do would be to refund it.
DeleteThe fundraiser site clearly states,
Delete"All money raised goes toward recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. We hope to do recounts in all three states. If we only raise sufficient money for two, we will demand recounts in two states. If we only raise enough money for one, we will demand a recount in one state. If we raise more than what's needed, the surplus will also go toward election integrity efforts and to promote voting system reform."
I don't think it's going to be a problem........when I donated last night the total was at 2.4 million, now it's at 4.2 million! Pretty good considering they just started fundraising yesterday.
@anon 11:28, the site specifically says that funds will go to election integrity and voting system reform. Most people are donating $5 or $11. I for one do not need my money back! Ever since the country switched over to some of these sketchy machines, our elections have been in question. This is the third presidential election that has been very close..........we need to figure out if we have an accurate system in place or not.
DeleteThat's MORAN to you, Mr. Brian Trust.
DeleteWho knew that Jill Stein would actually do something positive? Although, I would like to see a recount and the exposure of what I feel is an election coup by the Russians, I also feel that it would trigger an armed insurrection by the right.
ReplyDeleteWe are already headed down the path of some banana republic with Trump as president. His followers are still rabidly loyal and they will remain so as long as FOX and other right wing news sources continue the BS narrative and the so-called progressive media allows itself to be silenced.
So what if some of Don's craziest fans want an armed insurrection. This is a country of laws, if it was rigged we should know and correct the problem through our legal process. If these wing nuts come out with their guns they are breaking the law and and disrespecting our Constitution!! Just because they aren't going to take it quietly doesn't mean we should "let it go" for the good of the country. Some unrest now is worth the trouble than the fallout of a Trump presidency.
DeleteThe biggest fallout if Trump is inaugurated will be when the lowest income Deplorables find out that he's raising their taxes and cutting taxes for his rich buddies. Drain the swamp indeed ;-)
DeleteWhen the Oligarchs privatize American institutions we will all suffer.

Just read the story. Typical Trump voter's point of view. There will be much more of this.
Delete"U.S. media has largely breezed past the story. But foreign press reports paint a complicated picture of the relationship between the Argentine government, Trump’s Argentine real estate partners, and the emerging Trump administration. Those reports lend further support to the existing evidence that Trump and his adult children are leveraging the presidency to advance their business interests."
ReplyDelete" Trump threw a tantrum after losing a round of golf to Mauricio Macri and broke his friend’s golf clubs one by one."When the younger Macri was kidnapped and held for ransom in 1991, his father briefly suspected that Donald Trump was the “true intellectual author” of the crime."
The president-elect sees no such conflicts of interest in his complex tangle of business, diplomatic, and family relationships."

Why Did Donald Trump Take Money From This Sketchy Ukrainian Oligarch?
DeleteWhen Victor Pinchuk gave the Clinton Foundation money, Trump called it ‘crooked.’ When the same billionaire gave to his charity, Trump buttered the guy up.
Almost $600,000 per hour.
That’s the fee Donald Trump’s charity got for recording a video on behalf of a Ukrainian oligarch.
It’s a payment that could be in violation of tax laws, legal experts told The Daily Beast. When Hillary Clinton’s foundation received money from the very same billionaire, Donald Trump blasted her as “crooked.”

"I still do not think this will change the outcome of his election in Hillary's favor. She has already conceded and if the Democrats tried to fight this thing I do not think it would work out well for anybody in the end."
ReplyDeleteG, it's already not working out well. The campaigns should see this through, and if it ends up in Hillary's favor, she can always say, sorry, too late, I'm out. We have to be able to trust the voting system. What we do about redistricting and voter suppression is a big task too, but the voting system itself needs to be as secure as we can make it.
A concession (or lack thereof - as what Trump threatened to do if he had lost the election) is pure politeness and has nothing to do with whether a candidate is elected or not. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteExactly.
DeleteThey can unconcede (Gore did in 2000 after FL looked iffy again on election night). The Dems ultimately rolled over, but they need to hold their ground this time.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU and yes, please... let's grow some balls. How can it be over until the EC has met? Then, there's still Congress ratification; hurdles to be met head on and NOT head down like little bitches.
DeleteI need a sliver of hope that we're in for the biggest shit-throwing fight in the history of our relatively young democracy. Otherwise, our children and grandchildren will be ashamed of us.
In Wisconsin, the counties that used paper ballots, Clinton won by 7%, the counties that used a mixture of paper ballots and electronic voting machines, Clinton won by 2%, the counties that used only electronic voting machines, Trump won by 15%…something fishy here. Can you say "hacking".
ReplyDeleteI'd love seeing Trump not properly elected! He is a horrid representative of our country!
ReplyDelete‘Today Show’ Awkwardly Ignores Trump Butler’s Sinister Social Media History
ReplyDeleteIn a puff piece for Thanksgiving, NBC’s “Today Show” turned the spotlight on Donald Trump’s retired butler so he could show off the billionaire’s Mar-a-Lago estate. But it failed to mention his long list of nasty public statements.

If going with your feelings was how The Donald won the election, than allowing the rest of us who have a gut feeling that the election was not on the up and up should be okay too. This election does not pass the smell test to many americans, the fact that the money is being raised so fast should show many feel this to be the case.
ReplyDeleteMitt Romney’s Dilemma
ReplyDeleteMitt Romney may soon be faced with a dilemma. If Donald Trump offers him the job of secretary of State, should Mitt take it? Normally this wouldn’t even be an open question, much less a dilemma. The position is one of the most prestigious in the federal government, and any career politician would jump at the chance to fill it, in normal times. But this is Donald Trump’s administration we’re talking about, which will complicate Romney’s choice (to put it mildly).

Day spent with family? Throwback to the time Bristol got mad at Gino for dissing his own family and complained about going to see them (the east coast ones)
ReplyDeleteI'm with Hedgewytch - if she gets the electoral vote, she wins. Though I doubt it will happen.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me feel a little bit better knowing that I contributed $10 to the cause. $10 isn't going to break any of us, and there's something wrong with the voting machines. They at least need to be inspected.
To clarify, Hillary was always my candidate, and Jill Stein's anti-vaxxer stance was too goofy for me. But I will support her in this venture.
I keep hoping things are gonna turn around..I would welcome a recount. Think about it, if Trump had lost and garnered so many popular votes, he'd be screaming.....
ReplyDeleteWhy not? We are a democratic republic ruled by laws. The rules in place are corrupted, it's time to utilize our constitution to save this country from itself!
DeleteThis is already a corrupt election.
ReplyDeleteWe have Russia hacking computers providing Wkileaks with intelligence to smear only one candidate.
We have our own FBI taking action to influence the election in direct violation of DOJ policy and their own operating traditions.
Then there are the voter disenfranchisements. Violations in Wisconsin and North Carolina.
If you add any vote counting fraud or irregularities on top of that then, yes, this has been the most corrupt election in recent history.
It certainly does nothing to support the legitimacy of a Donald Trump win. In that regard his "win" is even more tainted than Bush's.
This country has nothing in place to handle a corrupt election. If results of several investigations show corruption, too bad. Trump will still be sworn in.
Even if these recounts show ballots were flipped or uncounted in those three states and Hillary really won it will be too late. The electoral college will have already given the election to Trump.
So you do not think there is enough time between friday and Janurary 6th is enough time for this? I think that is plenty of time. Look what people like you got us into by relying on you feelings.
DeleteThe preliminary vote is Dec 15 or 19 so no, I don't think there is enough time for a thorough recount or investigation into the irregularities with th NC elections board or the FBI.
DeleteSomeone told me that Susan Sarandon had put her money where her mouth is.
ReplyDeleteI hope that's true.
