Many of the attacks on Musk begin with something factual: His businesses were built, legally, with the help of billions in government contracts and incentives for renewable energy and space transport. But they go on to accuse Musk of fraud and wasting taxpayer dollars; some compare him to a convicted felon. At least three conservative sites have run negative pieces about Musk—by a nonexistent writer named “Shepard Stewart”—that include “Elon Musk Continues to Blow Up Taxpayer Money With Falcon 9” and “Elon Musk: Faux Free Marketeer and National Disgrace.” Two later retracted the stories.
“There’s a very obvious precedent” for this, says Sam Jaffe, managing director of Cairn Energy Research Advisors. “That’s Hillary Clinton.”
Jaffe says that whoever is behind the attacks is aiming at Musk personally because they fear he could go into politics. He cited the allegations of fraud (emails) and negligence (Benghazi) levied at Clinton during the presidential campaign, charges that cemented the public’s perception of her as shady. “It’s the exact same thing as Musk. There’s a portion of the political spectrum that is scared to death of Musk as politician. They see him as a threat. They’re starting that process.”
Jesus these people are disgusting.
But hey if they can derail a juggernaut like Hillary Clinton, and we let them get away with it, then why wouldn't they go after somebody who may present a future challenge like Elon Musk?
And believe me, he really could be an unstoppable political force in a couple of years.
Millennials LOVE the guy, including my daughter who thinks he walks on water and that he is the future of America's progress with renewable energy, transportation, and space exploration.
Hopefully after what we saw with this last election her generation is going to be much more careful as to where they get their information.
Elon Musk the Marco Rubio supporter, that Elon Musk? He walks on water? When did your daughter become a Republican?
ReplyDeleteMusk gave $5000 to Hillary in 2015, and $2,600 to Rubio for his Senate campaign, and then asked for it back when it was transferred to Rubio's presidential campaign.
DeleteLike many businessmen Musk gave to both Republicans and Democrats over the years.
My daughter respects him due to his work on renewable energy and his progressive ideas about future technologies.
Well he can't ever run for President, and I highly doubt he would want to get mired down in Politics. It is too easy to play them from the outside. He has not really created anything groundbreaking by the way in terms of electric cars or electric storage technology, it all existed and has been done before. But he is a great eccentric salesman and has a nicely packaged product.
DeleteYour daughter has good instincts. We like Musk out here in Storey county (where his huge manufacturing facility is located) now, but I see too many Trump/Pence bumper stickers. I hope that's not a problem in the future. You know how RWNJs will shoot themselves in the foot.
ReplyDeleteThey've been trying to jam Musk up for years --things like blocking Tesla car dealerships from setting up wherever they can exert influence. They are the oil & gas industry. They don't want lots & lots of efficient electric cars in this country--threatens their profits. That's all this is.
ReplyDeleteAnd this surprises you how? Chest thumping uneducated white neanderthals want to destroy everything because they're too stupid for words. Come to Canada Elon Musk, precedents are underway for leaving the US for safer more progressive places -

Maybe they hate him because one of his goals is to make us a multi-planetary species. Nowhere in their book of fairy tales is that mentioned. If Elon helps set up colonies on Mars, then they may be afraid their book of fairy tales will be exposed as that. Not only that, the neanderthals won't be able to emigrate initially, because their education levels will be unacceptable. Once there, the settlers will find that the current political system will be unworkable for their purposes.
ReplyDeleteThe personal attacks are probably to try to warn investors away and cut off any future funding he might seek for future projects.

ReplyDeleteThe only reason Obama was able to escape this targeting is that they never saw him coming until he was a candidate
ReplyDeleteTrue.
DeleteThat's the way we'll have to do it again to regain the White House. Among other things.
Another is to replace Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi and quickly change directions and methods. the Old Guard needs to step down and let allow some fresh air in.
I just talked to a brilliant young Millennial. She and her fiance are heading to Sweden to become ex pats pursuing graduatdegrees. Can you say US brain drain .
ReplyDeleteI'm not quite sure why the story says he is interested in politics. He isn't. Any anti Musk stuff is from the oil industry.
ReplyDeletePolitically if anything he has a somewhat libertarian bent. don't think he could run as a democrat.
I suppose he is aguing for a carbon tax. that's his most high profile political position.
I don't think he could run for president as he was born in South Africa and his mother is Canadian and his father is South African. I think he is a citizen now, but he isn't a natural born American citizen.
ReplyDeleteHe could be a governor or senator, but I doubt he'd be interested.
