Hillary Clinton now has more than one million more votes than Donald Trump.

Courtesy of The Hill:

Hillary Clinton has surpassed 1 million in her popular vote margin over President-elect Donald Trump, according to a Tuesday tally from the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.

Trump won the White House via the Electoral College a week ago, while the former secretary of State is now the fifth nominee in American history to win the popular vote but lose the presidency.

At first I was a little confused by this post because the numbers they used actually did now show Hillary ahead by a million.

However when I clicked this link it proved that she was indeed ahead 62,414,099 to 61,255,290, so yes she is comfortably ahead by well over a million votes.

Of course in our current system it doesn't mean anything. And no, signing petitions and arguing against the electoral system is not going to change that.

However it does provide a least some solace to those of us who voted based on reality, that the majority of American voters are not slack jawed simpletons who actually believed that Donald Trump would make a better president than Hillary Clinton.

Don't get me wrong, it still means that almost half of the Americans who bothered to vote probably can't tie their shoes without referring to the manual, but at least it's a little better.

  1. Anonymous8:40 AM

I love the way you phrase that, slack jawed simpletons...tying their shoes without a manual. Even some in my own family.

    1. And also with me.
I love that they obviously couldn't be bothered to even read the manual and tied their laces together but good.

    2. Anonymous11:06 AM

That's all right. Nike is coming out with self-lacing athletic shoes but it'll set you back $750.

Another fine example of what stupidity costs.

You’re Not Alone: An Unconventional Outreach Effort, After Election Leaves Many in Fear

Half of the residents of these United States have been reeling after last week’s presidential election, and it’s not just sour grapes over winners and losers.

Two years of campaign rhetoric from president-elect Donald Trump, and a sizable helping of his surrogates and supporters (and now appointees), has targeted women, Muslims, African Americans, Mexicans, refugees, veterans with PTSD, sexual assault victims, the LGBTQ community, the Jewish community, among others. Whether it was just “locker room talk” without conviction or “telling it like it is,” his electoral win has left many minority communities in fear.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a dramatic surge in reported hate crimes occurring across the country may have eclipsed the spike seen in the wake of 9/11 (more than 300 incidents since last Tuesday’s vote count), especially targeting (but definitely not limited to) Muslim Americans and African Americans. SPLC estimates there are currently 892 active hate groups active in the U.S., and Trump’s election seems to have galvanized them.

Whether or not one wishes to put the onus on the candidate, the fear is legitimate and the acts of vandalism and violence dotting the map validates that fear.

    1. 66gardeners1:44 PM

Remember when Melania called Trump's declaration, "you can grab their pussies" "Bad-boy" talk?

The ladies on “The View” are furious that Donald Trump is causing traffic problems in New York City and they’re not letting up.

“Today I’m on a little bit of a rant,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said at the top of the show. “Because it took me about seven hours to get to work this morning, because President-elect Donald Trump has his mid-town Manhattan apartment and it’s on permanent lockdown. You need to take your behind to Washington! You wanted the job! Go on and go to Washington!”

    1. Anonymous11:11 AM

It's so obvious how little Trump thinks of others. It's all about him!

He's just going to make people angrier and angrier and all Hell will eventually break lose...

      May he rot in Hell!

    2. Anonymous9:38 PM

If Hillary was causing traffic delays she would say it is all good and well worth it.

3 million votes were cast by illegals.

By the way why is no one talking about the fact that more undocumented people have been deported under Obama did anyone else? And the video of bill in the 90s saying the exact same thing as trump says on immigration. Except at this point trump just wants illegal criminals out.

But we're the other two called racist?

    1. "3 million votes were cast by illegals."

      Prove it.

The only one I've seen claim that refuses to reveal his proof. But I've seen his claim repeated by a lot of RWNJ fake news sites, so there ya go...

    2. Anonymous9:33 AM

Man but I swear I read almost exactly the same comment 8:44 AM, right here on this blog in the comments section a few weeks ago! Is it a cut-n-paste from the alt-right talking points manual?

That's a load of bs propaganda just like the lie that they get welfare and food stamps. Undocumented people cannot vote. It's hard enough for legal citizens. FU.

Trump Grows Bitter Over Popular Vote Loss As Clinton Lead Surpasses 1 Million

    1. Anonymous9:10 AM

This is how the future voted. This is what people 18-25 said in casting their votes. We must keep this flame alight and nurture this vision.

    2. Pretty ridiculous for Trump to whine now, huh? He was the one claiming it was riggged. And in 2012, he said he wanted the electoral college abolished.

He won't be able to keep his mouth shut any better after January 20th.

    3. Anonymous11:49 AM

Politiusa lol. Still getting your 'facts' from the blog that predicted a Clinton blowout up and down for the last three months?

    4. 66gardeners1:48 PM

Mellenials protesting seems ironic since many of them likely did not vote. Let us hope they are keenly inspired to vote in the future. After all, it is THEIR future!

  6. Anonymous8:53 AM

Damn, Gryphen, couldn't you find a more flattering picture of our REAL president?

  7. Anonymous8:54 AM

  8. That vote total doesn't matter one iota re: the electoral college vote Dec. 19th, because the California votes were 6 million for Clinton, only 3 million for Trump.

It would have made a difference, obviously, if that 3 million was less in California and more in the close battleground states.

    1. Anonymous9:51 AM

I love that Trump lost by so much in CA and NY and that FLA was so close. These are the states that matter to him. No matter what he says, it's what he values. It is killing him that the states with the real visionaries, and wealth that reflects this, have rejected him.

    2. 66gardeners1:49 PM

We can include Maryland in that list of progressive, visionary states.

    3. Anonymous6:37 PM

Ca and NY have been solid blue voting states for presidential elections for over 7 elections. Try again?

Yeah, real fabulous. She's still not Pres. and will never be. The Democratic Party knew Berners were never gonna vote for her, and said they didn't need those votes. So did bloggers. And we're actually quite pleased with this outcome. Better Trump than Clinton anyday.

      Oh. Right.
      You got that covered.

    2. Anonymous10:46 AM

Then "Berners" are assholes who had no problem at all with putting a racist moron in the White House who is going to allow the republican congress to get Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare. Oh, and destroy the economy.

So fuck Berners for not giving a shit who dies because of them. You're not progressives, you're cultists.

Obama defends democracy, if not Trump

In Athens, the professor-president delivered a dizzying civics lesson during his last major speech on the world stage.

That’s the trouble with democracy, President Barack Obama said here Wednesday: Sometimes Donald Trump wins.

But that’s also the good thing about democracy, Obama insisted: Trump won’t win in the end.

Summoning the founding ideals of democracy here in the Greek capital — he’d just returned from a tour of the Acropolis — Obama’s final major speech on the world stage as president tried to connect history to the future, a zigzagging line he said should prevail, despite the threat he suggested it’s now facing at home and in Europe.

The arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice, he said, using his favorite Martin Luther King Jr. quote. But the arc of the moral universe hit a snag.

“This impulse to pull back from a global world is understandable. If people feel they are losing control of their future, they will push back,” Obama said.

But the answer, Obama argued, is less make America great again than make America — and the rest of the world — greater than they ever were: “We can’t look backwards for answers, we have to look forward.”

  16. Anonymous10:18 AM

" using his favorite Martin Luther King Jr. quote"

And let's not forget his Twitter meltdown yesterday. He can't sit with the idea that anyone anyhow thinks he lost. He is an insecure child. It will be very easy for secure powerful people to play on his insecurities and manipulate him.

    1. Anonymous11:09 AM

Yesterday and today, those tweets--so presidential!

I don't care that I have to be embarrassed that an asshole is going to be in the WH. I love that he looks like such a fool and I want him to fail. No matter what happens, we'll get through it. But his ego won't. I so want him to be criticized and go down in history as destructive and trapped in an earlier century and not at all a person with any kind of real forward thinking and vision.

    2. Anonymous11:48 AM

Why would anyone wish a president to fail? If he has a successful presidency, the country is successful to. People are ridiculous.

Yes, we will get through the next four years. I will feel sorry for those who voted for Hillary if they are harmed in any way by The Donald's policies. We will stand up for them as best we can and take our revenge in two and then four years. To those that are hurt that voted for Don, welcome to what you wished for.

  20. Anonymous11:00 AM

Wisconsin was so close, closer than Florida. I just read this article on some of the voter suppression there, including email proof that a clerk worked to prevent more Dems from voting. If you google something like "wisconsin college students vote," you'll see articles about how Scott Walker has made it harder for students, as well as the poor and minorities in WI, to vote and that many people were turned away from the polls. Any criticism of her aside, Hillary should have had the state.

  21. Anonymous11:02 AM

We have missed out on having one of the best leaders in America! God bless you, Hillary Clinton!

And, now we stand by and observe the idiotic bully that is also extremely immature at age 70, a racist, nasty in thought and spirit, horribly poor spoken, inept and not bright! Plus, he's an ego maniac that will be sworn in January, 2017!

God save the minorities, Muslims, poor and middle class people in our country!

On that date of 1/20/17, America will begin it's downward spiral to becoming a third-world country if Trump is not stopped!

He will NEVER be my president!

  22. Anonymous11:11 AM

I like Hillary with her thick black glasses. She is different and so nerdy competent looking and downright getting to business.

“We elected a man who is openly misogynistic, who has a decades-long public life of ridiculing, belittling and sexually objectifying women,” Katz explained. “The fact that we have lifted him up to be the president makes a powerful statement about our society and what we accept.”

  24. Anonymous11:23 AM

She said an older white man stared at her from one seat away in the waiting room, and then took out a pocket knife, opened it and placed it on the open seat between them.

“I felt threatened,” she said. “I was shocked. And I was waiting to be stabbed just for the fact that I was wearing my headscarf.”

Basatneh said she remained in her seat, trying not to betray her fear, but none of the other patients intervened.

“There were about 20 people in that room, and everyone just carried on their normal conversations as if nothing happened,” she said. “That is scary — that is scarier than the fact that he took out that weapon. The people around us are not saying much.”

The man eventually picked up his knife, put it back in his pocket and muttered “deport them all” as he moved to another seat.

The popular vote difference is meaningless in an electoral vote system because the campaign strategy would have been different. Trump would have spent more time campaigning in places like California and Illinois that under the electoral vote system are almost a guaranteed done deal for he Democratic candidate. But Clinton fans just have to be able to spike the ball on something/someone. So if it gets you through the night, it's alright, it's alright. Just don't kid yourself into believing if we had a popular vote system Clinton would be the president elect right now, because that's something we can never know.

    1. Anonymous1:05 PM

  28. Anonymous11:34 AM

I'll probably catch flak for this, but your last sentence, Gryphen, is one of the reasons that we have the president-elect that we do. A lot of the voters who didn't vote for Mrs. Clinton did so for real reasons, and not in support of the guy I can't even name, it tastes so bad. Until we stop jeering at eachother, and enjoying the "other side's" pain and anguish, and summing people up in labeled boxes, we are never going to be more than two competing sides. Better to stop jeering, be polite, and work to find ways to keep the horrors from happening.
That's just my take on the subject at hand. I am so pleased that Mrs. Clinton got the popular vote in such large numbers.

    1. Anonymous12:19 PM

The horrors are happening. See what happens when decent people try to remain decent? You haven't noticed? There is no polite any more.

Look at the bright side. That's how almost half of this country wants it. No respect, no manners, no rules. Yee haw! Let her buck!

    2. Anonymous1:59 PM

sorry, but it is hard to believe there are legitimate "real" reasons for not voting for Hillary, considering we now have Trump.

  29. Anonymous11:43 AM

As for the popular vote, this is where Trump’s insecurities, hypocrisy, and delusion really become exposed. This morning, Trump sent out two extremely popular tweets, which were clearly inspired by his angst over Hillary having clearly “won” the national popular vote by perhaps as many as two million votes.

The first tweet was bizarre on multiple levels:

‘This is our moment’: Trump’s win emboldens activist behind effort to ‘make rape legal’

...According to Valizadeh, Trump does not need to take any specific actions to fortify the rights of men because his “presence automatically legitimizes masculine behaviors that were previously labeled sexist and misogynist.”

“This is our moment. The door is opening for a renaissance of masculinity where men can take pride in being men, and the best part of it is that we don’t need to wait for Trump to do anything,” he proclaimed. “His victory is more than enough for us to apply our own individual strength in seizing the bull’s horns where we can come out of the politically incorrect closet and assert our beliefs and behaviors.”

What Donald Trump’s Victory Means For Men

...I’m in a state of exuberance that we now have a President who rates women on a 1-10 scale in the same way that we do and evaluates women by their appearance and feminine attitude. We may have to institute a new feature called “Would Trump bang?” to signify the importance of feminine beauty ideals that cultivate effort and class above sloth and vulgarity. Simply look at his wife and the beautiful women he has surrounded himself with to remind yourself of what men everywhere prefer, and not the “beauty at every size” sewage that has been pushed down our throats by gender studies professors and corporations trying to market their product to feminist fatsoes. The President of the United States does not see the value in fat women who don’t take care of themselves, and neither should you.

  37. Anonymous12:24 PM

Again, the problem is with the artificial cap of 435 representatives. If that cap was not in place, different states would have a closer representative-to-citizen ratio--for instance, if we used the population of Wyoming as the basis for the ratio of reps-to-citizen (one rep for every 586000 people) then California would have 13 more reps, and thus 13 more electoral votes.
