Hillary Clinton's concession speech.

Courtesy of CNN:

"I'm sorry." With those simple words, Hillary Clinton, who thought she would wake up Wednesday as the first woman president-elect but crashed to a stunning election defeat to Donald Trump, ended her White House quest and likely her political career.

The Democratic nominee unequivocally conceded the presidential race, and said that the Constitution requires a peaceful transfer of power.

"Last night, I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country. I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans," Clinton said.

"Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead," said Clinton, who was composed and dignified even as she admitted how painful her defeat was in her first public comments on the result of the election.

"This is not the outcome that we wanted and we worked so hard for, and I am sorry that we did not win this election," Clinton told supporters and campaign workers in New York.

"I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but someday, someone will, and hopefully sooner than we might think right now."

"And to all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and to achieve your own dreams."

I am sorry it took me so long to post this, to be honest I only listened to it a little while ago myself.

I only got about three hours of sleep last night, and after I finished my work today I stepped away from my computer and watched a couple of Netflix movies just to give myself a mental health break.

But worry not, I have every intention of getting right back to work exposing the frauds, revealing the truths they are working so hard to hide, and calling out bullshit whenever I step in a pile of it.

I love this country, and I will continue doing everything that I can to help it continue its sometimes slow, but consistently steady, march toward enlightenment and progressive values.

And a word to the trolls.

Look I know that you are chomping at the bit to attack this woman now that she is wounded, that is the typical modus operandi for a POS like you.

However I think she deserves to be treated with dignity, so I will be rejecting your weak ass attempts to puff up you man boobs and act tough.

For tonight at least you can take that shit to some other progressive site.

Tonight we take stock, dust off the dirt and grime of battle, and start planning our next moves.

Secretary Rodham received the popular vote. And that is how the winner should win. Popular vote. Straight up paper ballot and popular vote wins. On Election day. No time or room for corruption, liars and cheats.

Unfortunately, that will be a pipe dream for at least the next four years. I never imagined that the GOP would prevail like they did. Since this worked for them, and the voter suppression worked like a charm, they will not give change a chance.

Yes, as much as it hurts to admit that we have gotten a world-first - a rapist and sexual predator, and a liar who lies when he opens his mouth - president-elect.
Not sure, just how long he will last, or if he even gets to see the inside of the White House (which will be the White Whorehouse for ever afterwards) before he gets indicted and impeached, only to give way to someone potentially more destructive for our country, Xtian Taliban, Pence, plus a GOP hand selected Xtian Taliban VP after that.
But that is for another day. For now, we have to band together and try to make the most out of it.
Good luck to my brothers and sisters who are part of the dismissed minorities: LBGT, women, Muslims, Jews, Latinos/Latinas, immigrants, handicapped people.

I am Canadian but I have an enormous respect and admiration for HRC. Truth be told, had she been elected with a Republican Congress and Senate, her 4 years would have been hell. And the efforts to undermine her and the Clinton Foundation would have been unrelenting. Now, she can continue her public service to the world through the Clinton Foundation and the Foundation itself will be saved from petty partisan attack. America missed the opportunities Obama could have brought to the table because of the Republicans and the anger they feel that elected Trump has been misdirected. The Republican party has done everything in its power to mess things up. So buck up Buttercups, because things are just going to be more of the same but worse. Tax breaks for the wealthy and nada for the middle class. In the meantime Hillary, Bill and Chelsea can do what they do best, serve those in need through their Foundation and raise money to help the less fortunate in the world through their experience and connections. Go HRC Go. You dodged a bullet, dear lady and the US will be worse off for not respecting you and the Democratic Party enough to give them a chance.

We always knew that would happen, that she will never go quietly and behave with dignity and grace, that she would always be there kicking the door in and screeching until she was given something, anything.

She's like a flock of one seagull.

She was a terrible mayor and a hopeless governor and she has no qualification or competence for any cabinet position, but she has never let her guaranteed ineptitude stand in the way. And Donald Trump hates America enough to not give a damn who is doing what. All he is interested in is using the presidency to get richer, to weasel out of his debts, and to exercise his countless grudges. Donald Trump has no knowledge and even less interest in governing.

A pull no punches Canadian political commentary which, in part, notes -

"So if not for the Clintons, for whom was my heart bleeding last night? For all the poor saps who wanted change — and who somehow thought that a racist, misogynistic, shameless liar who has conned his way to fame and fortune would be its best agent. If Trump voters broke out of the prison of standard Washington Establishment BS this week, it was only to be strapped firmly into the electric chair.

The first shock wasn’t long in coming. For over a year, Trump has whipped up his political supporters against Clinton by calling her a corrupt, incorrigible felon who was unfit for the office of president. So I wonder what all those people with their Trump hats on backwards thought last night when President-elect Trump, sounding oh so politically correct, said, “We owe her [Hillary] a major debt of gratitude for her service to the country.”

Was this the same man who had the People of the Corn screaming at his rallies, “Lock her up, lock her up”? Was it the same Donald Trump who called Clinton “the devil” and “a nasty woman”? Was this the same self-described groper who said that “if Hillary can’t satisfy her husband, what makes her think she can satisfy Americans?” Most importantly, will one of Trump’s first actions as president be to appoint a Special Prosecutor to put “Crooked Hillary” behind bars, as he promised to do in one of those shit-flingers laughably referred to as presidential debates?

Not a chance. Remember Lying Ted and Little Marco from the Republican primary race? Trump’s belittling personal attacks against them were deployed strictly to dispatch them rather than to reveal legitimate shortcomings. He is the sort of person who buries the knife deep in his opponents’ back, then shows up at their funerals with the biggest wreath."

I hope a little honest reality check on this blog isn't considered trolling. The Democratic Party has to wake up to the fact that they just lost an election to the most unpopular presidential candidate in modern history - maybe the most unpopular presidential candidate of all time. Would that happen to a party that represents its voters' interests, or would it happen to a party that represents "other" interests? It comes down to the ole saying, "You can't serve two masters." They can't expect to win future elections either if they continue to call themselves Liberals, and progressives, and call themselves the party of the people, yet act like centrist, corporate Republicans. It may be cliche, but actions do speak louder than words. It's time for some Democratic Party soul-searching.

Blame the GOP which has carefully cultivated racism, sexism, nativism in this country for decades now. Blame the stupid voters who did not do their homework in listening to exactly what the candidates were saying and who did not think the election through. Agree completely. The Dems chose a candidate who was seen as an insider who had high negatives and was widely distrusted by voters. Many Dems were and felt sidelined by the DLC and then the DNC and their pro-corporate policies and backers.

Then the primaries were shown to have been manipulated by the DNC against Sanders--alienating and infuriating many Dem voters-- especially the young.

Rustbelt voters in Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania who voted for Obama in the last 2 elections voted Republican this time and that cost the Dems the electoral vote and the election. The Dems lost this election by their choice of candidate and by not taking care of the needs and problems of their base. The Democratic leadership certainly need to look into their own party and their part in this momentous loss--especially they need to listen to the people they serve--not pollsters, image makers, corporate donors and cronies.

      http://michaelmoore.com/trumpwillwin/

" if you believe Hillary Clinton is going to beat Trump with facts and smarts and logic, then you obviously missed the past year of 56 primaries and caucuses where 16 Republican candidates tried that and every kitchen sink they could throw at Trump and nothing could stop his juggernaut."

"From Green Bay to Pittsburgh, this, my friends, is the middle of England – broken, depressed, struggling, the smokestacks strewn across the countryside with the carcass of what we use to call the Middle Class. Angry, embittered working (and nonworking) people who were lied to by the trickle-down of Reagan and abandoned by Democrats who still try to talk a good line but are really just looking forward to rub one out with a lobbyist from Goldman Sachs who’ll write them nice big check before leaving the room. What happened in the UK with Brexit is going to happen here. Elmer Gantry shows up looking like Boris Johnson and just says whatever shit he can make up to convince the masses that this is their chance! To stick to ALL of them, all who wrecked their American Dream!"

" All Trump needs to do to win is to carry, as he’s expected to do, the swath of traditional red states from Idaho to Georgia (states that’ll never vote for Hillary Clinton), and then he just needs these four rust belt states. He doesn’t need Florida. He doesn’t need Colorado or Virginia. Just Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. And that will put him over the top. This is how it will happen in November."

"Our biggest problem here isn’t Trump – it’s Hillary. She is hugely unpopular — nearly 70% of all voters think she is untrustworthy and dishonest. She represents the old way of politics, not really believing in anything other than what can get you elected. "

"No Democrat, and certainly no independent, is waking up on November 8th excited to run out and vote for Hillary the way they did the day Obama became president or when Bernie was on the primary ballot. The enthusiasm just isn’t there. And because this election is going to come down to just one thing — who drags the most people out of the house and gets them to the polls — Trump right now is in the catbird seat."

" Hillary Clinton is going to have to do something to give them a reason to support her — and picking a moderate, bland-o, middle of the road old white guy as her running mate is not the kind of edgy move that tells millenials that their vote is important to Hillary."

The DNC should have paid a LOT more attention to Michael Moore, who is FROM MICHIGAN. Because he nailed it all back in JULY.

You know what they *should* have done.

The 2008 or even 2012 ticket should have been Obama/Clinton. The the 2016 ticket should have been Clinton/Sanders. *THAT* would have motivated the millennials and brought over some of the rust belt butt hurt Trump supporters. The *liked* Bernie. Instead the Hillary supporters thought they'd drum up support for Hillary by insulting and shaming the Bernie supporters.

Didn't work out so well, now, did it?

    12. We will take back our Party.

      "Morning After To-Do List:

      1. Take over the Democratic Party and return it to the people. They [the party elite] have failed us miserably. [and it's not the first time.]

      2. Fire all pundits, predictors, pollsters and anyone else in the media who had a narrative they wouldn’t let go of and refused to listen to or acknowledge what was really going on. Those same bloviators will now tell us we must “heal the divide” and “come together.” They will pull more hooey like that out of their ass in the days to come. Turn them off.

      3. Any Democratic member of Congress who didn’t wake up this morning ready to fight, resist and obstruct in the way Republicans did against President Obama every day for eight full years must step out of the way and let those of us who know the score lead the way in stopping the meanness and the madness that’s about to begin.

      4. Everyone must stop saying they are “stunned” and “shocked.” What you mean to say is that you were in a bubble and weren’t paying attention to your fellow Americans and their despair. YEARS of being neglected by both parties, the anger and the need for revenge against the system only grew. Along came a TV star they liked whose plan was to destroy both parties and tell them all “You’re fired!” Trump’s victory is no surprise. He was never a joke. Treating him as one only strengthened him. He is both a creature and a creation of the media and the media will never own that.

      5. You must say this sentence to everyone you meet today: “HILLARY CLINTON WON THE POPULAR VOTE!” The MAJORITY of our fellow Americans preferred Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump. Period. Fact. If you woke up this morning thinking you live in an effed-up country, you don’t. The majority of your fellow Americans wanted Hillary, not Trump. The only reason he’s president is because of an arcane, insane 18th-century idea called the Electoral College. Until we change that, we’ll continue to have presidents we didn’t elect and didn’t want. You live in a country where a majority of its citizens have said they believe there’s climate change, they believe women should be paid the same as men, they want a debt-free college education, they don’t want us invading countries, they want a raise in the minimum wage and they want a single-payer true universal health care system. None of that has changed. We live in a country where the majority agree with the “liberal” position. We just lack the liberal leadership to make that happen (see: #1 above)."

I didn't cry until this afternoon. It took a while before I could let the sadness out over the being stunned and angry. I still cannot believe what so many people are willing to vote into the presidency. We all saw the type of people who rallied around Trump. Hillary losing was not, as far as I'm concerned, her fault. We all knew what was at stake. All Dems needed to vote--period. The ugly white underbelly of this country showed itself and showed the rest of us that all that is horrible in humans is alive and well in this country of ours--and yet so many people didn't vote, didn't squash that debased and deplorable segment of the population.

I'm sick of hearing the TV people talk about Hillary's flaws and how she didn't inspire. I vote every election. Every election the candidates are different and some are highly inspiring and some aren't, but I know what my party stands for and I vote. I don't vote because someone lifts me into this realm of feeling so inspired that I float off to the voting booth. I don't need that in order to go vote. No one should. We always know what the issues are, know what’s at stake. We’re adults, supposedly with brains.

I wish I had all the data so I knew exactly how many women of different races are registered Dems and how many of each category voted. The Dem minority vote was pretty good. I’d like to know how many white women are registered Dems and how many of them voted. I do know that only half of all eligible voters voted, and that many Dems just sat things out and let Trump win by not showing up. This didn’t have to even be close. Look at the graph at the link below. Notice how Obama’s blue bar is crazy high compared to the GOP candidates’ in both of Obama’s elections (and granted, in 2008 Obama did get a number of GOP voters’ votes). Even with fewer votes in 2016, there’s no reason why Hillary’s turnout should have been so low. Trump did worse than the two GOP candidates before him. But he’s pretty close to where they were. There are so many Dem voters who just didn’t bother to vote this time.

I guess I can assume that half of these were women. White women. Some white Dem women may have voted for Trump, but so many just didn’t vote. I don’t care who’s the candidate—I know what the issues are and care what they are, but I guess too many white women are just void of an intellect. And they didn’t care enough about all that Trump had shown himself to be and stand for—they just couldn’t bother voting. The Dem share of the vote dropped by more than 3 percent. The GOP increased by less than .5. We had enough voters—way more than enough—to win. But too many people just didn’t care—and I hope they suffer for it and regret not voting every single damn day.

It is hard for me to believe that any woman, no matter what her race or ethnicity is, no matter what her economic status is, could have voted for Donald Trump. Couldn't they think of their daughters, their granddaughters, their nieces, the young women they work with or live near? Now we will have a president whose misogyny has become a twisted sick joke and his wife, who likely entered this country illegally, and who has posed nude and almost nude as a porn-like model, living in the White House. What role models for our children and for their children! Did the women who voted for Trump ever think of the message they were sending to the young men and young women in their lives?

So hard to believe, and yet those women are out there. Someone on TV was saying that the economic issues were what was most important, as if the other issues--Trump's sexism and assaults were important but far less so than the economy--but I don't buy it.

There are many women out there who accept their life as, if not as being downright subservient, definitely at a lower status than the males in their lives. And there are many who think they are living life as very strong individuals but they say things that communicate otherwise and blow my mind. I’m fine letting them live that way—but now, with this election, they have acted to take away some of what I want from my life.

There are women out there--I've known them--who could be raped and they would say it’s what happens to a female, and that is that. And I don’t mean that they say it in a depressed sounding way. It’s how they view the world. They won't report abuse and won’t think about seeing a doctor. Not out of fear or being shell-shocked. They get abused and they think this is normal, boys being boys, and they say they understand why men do what they do. I’ve seen them be proud of that ability to “understand” being abused—there’s a certain strange pride there. If their daughters were assaulted, I don’t see them as becoming upset enough. If Trump did to their daughters what we know he’s done, they’d see nothing seriously wrong with it. They’d make some kind of joke about it to their daughters or tell the daughters they should feel flattered. If their daughters were actually raped, some would file a police report and some wouldn’t. And some who wouldn’t do it wouldn't’ because of a fear of putting their daughters through hell. They’d just not do it. Period. Their attitude reminds me of Trump's in that quote where he smirkily said, of rape in the military, what did you expect when you put men and women together.

If you look at this link and read the couple of statements by his female supporter, you'll groan. Trump’s female supporters think they are tough broads who don’t need no stinkin’ feminism. They don’t give women’s rights advocates any credit. They think feminism is all BS. They laugh off the abusive kinds of things that men do. It makes me ill.

"After Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in California and Governor Jesse Ventura in Minnesota it was only a matter of time before a grossly unqualified celebrity—one with no political experience whatsoever ― would become president. "

"The whole truth is that we need to be more politically engaged all the time.

It’s been clear for decades that our government increasingly carries on without our meaningful involvement. Critical votes in Congress occur without our knowledge. Bills that could lower the cost of health care or offer powerful campaign finance reform are killed and we don’t make a peep. We know our government is failing us, we get upset about it from time to time, and then we go back to discussing television shows."

"In 2016 Donald Trump gave the worst presidential debate performances of any candidate I’ve seen in my 35 years. His answers were often incoherent and untethered from reality. He lied so much that he won Politifact’s Lie of the Year award. He blamed Hillary Clinton for nearly everything that happened during her time in government even though no First Lady, Senator, or Secretary of State can unilaterally pass a law. He offered few concrete plans. He made promises no president can keep. But we elected him anyway.

Donald Trump could not have succeeded in a country of critical thinkers, or at least in a country where enough critical thinkers routinely confronted those who weren’t critical enough. "

"It has been well noted that the three major news networks devoted just 32 minutes of coverage to policy issues in the election since the beginning of 2016, a number that was down from 114 minutes in 2012 and 220 minutes in 2008. Those numbers show that the media has gotten lazy and irresponsible but we are the ones who have rewarded them for it."

"I wish it weren’t our job to hold media to a standard they should meet on their own, but now that is our job. There is no united mainstream media. There are mostly large corporations trying to attract eyeballs to make money. As long as we keep clicking on, watching, and sharing the worthless content they offer then that’s what they will provide. If we want substance we have to start rewarding those who give it to us."

"The internet has enabled all of us to live in self-affirming bubbles where we read and discuss what we’re already inclined to agree with and gain false certainty that the world is the way we see it. That kind of insularity might work well for a Meetup group but it’s hell on a representative democracy.

Truth isn’t gleaned from reading and hearing what you already think. Truth comes from testing what you believe against all evidence to the contrary. "

"It is said that evil prevails when good people do nothing, but again, that’s only half true. Evil prevails when good people don’t do enough—and we didn’t. We were complacent and we allowed our political system to be hijacked by a man who appeals to our worst impulses. We got what we deserve."

      @6:05

Not sure your point. Hillary's negatives were through the roof. Even a ward heeler in the old Democratic party would not have suggested running someone with such high negatives for office--even if it was for the office of dog-catcher. The Dems should have run Warren or Sanders--or almost any other Dem if they wanted to win. That's the point I was making, with which you may disagree.

      @6:08

You write: "What's so hilarious is that there will be no change in circumstance for those "rust belters" that voted for him, in fact their lives will probably get much worse, if that's even possible. Gonna be fun to watch them wallow in the pit of despair that they themselves dug."

I don't enjoy watching others' misery--even if self-inflicted. But the misery of the rust belt and the real poverty and sense of despair goes way back to the exportation of jobs and loss of industry resulting in loss of income, health, education and so forth for millions of people there. I live in the rust belt. Hillary Clinton did not once visit Wisconsin for the whole campaign--nor did she acknowlege the problems or offer a serious plan for creating jobs or enacting better trade deals, etc.

On the other hand, Trump spent the entire week before the election visiting rust belt cities promising jobs and to undo NAFTA in places where poverty and despair have hit hard since Bill Clinton and the Clinton Dems brought us NAFTA in the 1990s, which as I said resulted in millions of jobs lost in the US and, again, very hard hit were rust belt areas like Michigan, PA, Wisconsin, Ohio--the very states that voted for Obama twice and now voted for Trump. Why? because Trump acknowledged the need for jobs, the poverty, the rip-off by Wall St. and the banksters that so many Americans of all parties know is the problem.

The Democrats on the other hand were preparing for their victory celebration in NYC with no plan or mention of undoing NAFTA, no comparable visits to many rust belt areas, and no credible plan offered to create jobs. And don't forget Sanders and Warren who had the same message that Trump gave to the working class were shut out of the discussion and the race by the DNC.

The way I see it, the Democratic party needs to return to the needs of its base--or we need a third party that will represent the working class and what's left of the shaky middle class.

I was standing in line today and there was a beautiful little Hispanic girl around three standing by me. My town has a large Hispanic community. She looked at me and started chatting and even offered me a bite of her pizza. She was with her Grandmother and I noticed the Grandmother looked very worried. I said to her "you look very worried". She nodded at her Granddaughter and said"Iam". I looked at her and said "So am I" and we both teared up.

As upset and frustrated as I was I maintained my cool and simply said " That will not happen because your hero would not be able to ship in all of his goods made in China, Mexico, and Bangladesh" and walked away.

I found Hillary showed great strength and leadership in her concession speech. There is a lot to be admired about her.

Did you all catch Samantha Bee with Let Hillary Be Hillary on election eve? It gave me a perspective on Hillary that I wish had been offered to voters earlier.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6zf5VkuiEQ

You can see in this video where Hillary's resilience comes from. It also might explain why we never heard her deny the accusations levelled against her constantly by the Trump regime. I think it might have helped if she had protested her innocence as some may have taken her not engaging as an admission that there was something to those accusations.

I wonder if the feisty younger Hillary Rodham would have stood there while being called a crooked liar. I mean I know it was a strategy to "rise above the fray" so that she could then get to the message she wanted to convey. But still, it seemed almost inhuman to never deny what was said. Maybe people needed to hear her be outraged at the smear tactics?

Oh and speaking of Samantha Bee, check out further video from her Russia trip where we find out Putin does NOT admire Trump, but thinks he is a colorful clown.

It's not Hillary's first instinct to fight fire with fire. Except for the US Senate she has never been in a position where she has even been able to to that: First Lady of Arkansas, FLOTUS, 2x POTUS candidate, SoS.... her fighting has necessarily been behind closed doors because the nastiest spotlights have always been trained on her- and they always will be. The vast obsessive Right-wing hatred will never die as long as she's a woman.

The last week or so Nate Silver had Trumps chance of winning varying around 30-35% from what I saw. He was correct. Trump had a 30-35% chance of winning based on his information, and he did.

The odds are always against you in Vegas but you do win some too. Nate would only be incorrect if he said Trump had a zero percent chance of winning.

I wish I knew how to cry but it's weird, neither my brother nor I has the ability to cry. My father cannot either so we must to have inherited it from him. Sometimes we feel rather awkward at sad events such as funerals as we all come off looking rather insensitive.

That being said, my mother said that we were great babies and when we had requirements we just made little 'mewling' sounds since we couldn't cry.

I think about the faces of some of those young women who were at the Javitz Centre last night - the looks on their faces as they felt the sucker punch in the gut. How was it possible that the wonder that is Hillary was not enough once again, despite the buffoon she was up against? It was devastating.

So nice to see in her speech today where she acknowledged that she was proud to have acted as a proxy for them and not to lose hope.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

The Right-wing have their candidates chosen at an early age. They recruit them in their Xianist high schools and colleges and nurse them through law school and a stint in the military and then they're good to go with a glowing resume.

The Left don't seem to even think about candidates unless there's an election coming up, and then they rely on volunteers. Does anyone think an attention-seeking exhibitionist like Anthony Weiner would have survived much scrutiny?
