Liberty University President, Jerry Falwell Jr. is under consideration for Secretary of Education. Yes, the president of an Evangelical university, who believes that evolution is a lie, who is president of a university that was founded in opposition to school integration, may be dictating the educational agenda of America's public school children. Falwell Jr. confirmed to the Associated Press on Friday that he had met with Trump at Trump Tower.
Falwell told Virginia's Richmond Times-Dispatch last week that he's let the administration know that "one of my passions is reforming higher education and education in general." When pressed by other outlets, including the Associated Press, whether that role would be as Secretary of Education, Falwell would not, "confirm or deny whether he was being vetted as secretary of education, but says he will 'definitely play a role' in the administration.'
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Okay I just had to get that off of my chest before I attempted to respond to this news in anything resembling actual English.
This blog is called "The Immoral Minority" directly because of this guy's father, and I have long been predicting that we are seeing the beginning of the end of the Religious Right in this country.
However if Trump actually puts this anti-intellectual, creationism believing buffoon in office as the man in charge of education in this country, there is no telling the amount of damage that he could do.
Liberty University was founded because Jerry Fallwell Sr. could not stomach the idea of the little white Christian snowflakes having to share dorms, cafeterias, or "gasp" locker rooms with African Americans.
That's right the school is a monument to racism.
The school is notoriously anti-Semitic, anti-LGBTQ, and Fallwell Jr. suggested this last year:
“I’ve always thought that if more good people had concealed-carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walked in.”
So yes it is also Anti-Muslim. (You can see why Donald Trump probably likes this POS so much.)
I swear that virtually all of Trump's possible cabinet choices read like a "Who's Who of No Fucking Way." But this one, this one might be the worst so far.
I'm not sure who is worse, Bannon or Falwell. I'm just glad that I'm a childfree woman in my fifties so I no longer have to worry about birth control access. But I really fear for my friends who are younger, people of color, LGBTQ, etc. This administration will run this country straight into the sewer.

Nigel Farage hits out at 'cesspit' of politics as Downing Street rejects Donald Trump's call to make him British ambassador to the United States
Nigel Farage has hit out at the "cesspit" of politics as Downing Street rejected Donald Trump's calls for the interim Ukip leader to become Britain's next ambassador to the United States.
In a surprising tweet, which has raised eyebrows in the UK, Mr Trump made the recommendation to his almost 16 million followers on Monday night.

Mr Trump appears to be revelling in ripping up the rule book. It is highly unusual for an incoming president to suggest ambassadors from other countries.
....Nigel Farage hits out at 'cesspit' of politics as Downing Street rejects Donald Trump's call to make him British ambassador to the United States...
... However, the news was greeted with a quick riposte from No 10 who insisted that it is for Britain to decide who serves as it's ambassador to the United States. A spokesman said: "You have an ambassador who only took up his post earlier this year.
"He is doing a great job and it is recognised grid doing a great job. We have chosen our ambassador and there is no vacancy."
....I can still scarcely believe that he did that though speaking to a couple of his long time friends perhaps I am a little less surprised.
They all say the same thing: that Trump is a very loyal man and supports those that stand by him.

Melania, Barron, Ivanka, Ivanka's husband, Donald Jr, Erik, Tiffany, Christie, Giuliani, Palin, Bannon, etc?
Ambassador Ivana?
ReplyDeleteAmbassador Marla?
Why not?
Ivana Trump, the Czech-born former wife of the president-elect, recently told the New York Post that she thought her ex-husband should appoint her as U.S. ambassador to the Czech Republic. “[That] is where I’m from and my language, and everybody knows me,” she explained.
Ivana is just one of a number of rumored and hopeful ambassadors who could be appointed by Donald Trump’s White House despite having no diplomatic background. There were reports, now denied, that Trump had picked former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee to be ambassador to Israel. On the other end of the scale, another Trump ex-wife, Marla Maples, was reported by the New York Post to be angling for an ambassador gig “somewhere in Africa.”
Trump’s campaign has made little comment about potential ambassador picks, and it remains unclear whether Ivana or any other non-diplomat has any realistic shot.

ReplyDeleteIt's happening right before our eyes.
It’s Already Happening: Potential Trump Pick Leaks Sensitive Information
ReplyDelete...In his haste to be photographed with the president-elect, he left sensitive information facing directly toward the camera. And as reported by the Topeka Capital-Journal, the paper is clearly legible in the original photograph.
The document calls for updating and reintroducing the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System. The program was implemented in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, but largely suspended in 2011.
“All aliens from high-risk areas are tracked,” the document reads.
The document then calls for “extreme vetting questions” for “high-risk aliens”; echoing Trump’s campaign rhetoric. High-risk aliens would be questioned about support for Sharia law (Islamic religious law), jihad, the equality of men and women and the U.S. Constitution.
The document also asks for reducing the intake of Syrian refugees to zero.
In other words, Trump’s current top pick for Homeland Security wants a registry, wants to violate religious freedoms through extreme vetting, is completely against actually helping anyone, and is too stupid to put the damn papers in the binder before posing for a picture.
Also included in the document, but hidden partially by his arm so that context is unavailable: the Patriot Act, voter rolls, and possible amendments to the Voting Rights Act. Considering Trump’s rhetoric and what the rest of the paper contains, that is terrifying. It looks as though Republicans want to use the Department of Homeland Security to suppress the Democratic vote.

DeleteTrump’s big infrastructure plan? It’s a trap.
ReplyDelete...First, Trump’s plan is not really an infrastructure plan. It’s a tax-cut plan for utility-industry and construction-sector investors, and a massive corporate welfare plan for contractors. The Trump plan doesn’t directly fund new roads, bridges, water systems or airports, as did Hillary Clinton’s 2016 infrastructure proposal. Instead, Trump’s plan provides tax breaks to private-sector investors who back profitable construction projects. These projects (such as electrical grid modernization or energy pipeline expansion) might already be planned or even underway. There’s no requirement that the tax breaks be used for incremental or otherwise expanded construction efforts; they could all go just to fatten the pockets of investors in previously planned projects.

Delete"Instead, it’s calling for huge tax credits: billions of dollars in checks written to private companies that invest in approved projects, which they would end up owning. For example, imagine a private consortium building a toll road for $1 billion. Under the Trump plan, the consortium might borrow $800 million while putting up $200 million in equity — but it would get a tax credit of 82 percent of that sum, so that its actual outlays would only be $36 million. And any future revenue from tolls would go to the people who put up that $36 million."

And then he would allow the companies to ‘invest’ in infrastructure projects in exchange for even more tax breaks,” Sanders wrote. “Trump’s plan is corporate welfare coming and going.”

...The Times deserves praise because unlike the television networks they did not agree to Mr. Trump’s demands of off the record only sessions. The New York Times held firm, and Trump caved.
If the mainstream media does not push back against Trump, they are going to get steamrolled into becoming state-run media for his administration.

We don't want to. He's one of us.
DeleteIf it was Hillary we would definitely impeach her in a New York minute.
30 yrs from now. Dtrumpy just sat in his tower growing and growing fatter. He became elected. There was much power, but he did not know how to use it, other than to provide to crazy. Well, too make a long story short, his son did not have any education exposure to earth, life, culture, simpleness of some cultures, the vastness of the universe, the vastness of the mind. Just hate. The end. They never became people of the world.
ReplyDeleteThe other name I heard floated for that position was Betsy Devos, wife of the richest asshole in Michigan. Not only do they own our legislature, they've made it their mission to destroy public education, along with unions and worker's rights.
ReplyDeleteElections have consequences.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's why I can't say "fuck you" enough to all of those who either did not vote
or voted third-party in some kind of stupid 'protest'.
Not sure who's worse. Jerry Falwell Jr. or Michelle Rhee.
ReplyDeleteBoth would be a disaster.
