Hawaii becomes the first state to have an all Democratic state senate in decades.

Courtesy of McClatchy DC:

A strong challenge to the only Republican in the Hawaii state Senate has resulted in an all-Democrat legislative body, the first in the nation in decades.

Democrat Stanley Chang won election to the Hawaii Senate, ousting Republican Sam Slom from the seat he held for 20 years.

Chang said he was deeply humbled by the outpouring of support from east Honolulu.

"We knocked on 16,000 doors, wore out three pairs of shoes, got bitten by two dogs, and all because I think the residents of east Honolulu deserve to have an elected official that will take the time to listen and understand their concerns and translate that into concrete action," Chang said.

Slom was the lone Republican in the chamber until he was defeated Tuesday.

The last time a party held all the seats in any state Legislature was 1980, according to the National Conference on State Legislatures.

Can you even imagine?

Man I thought I was jealous of people who live in Hawaii before, but now......

But that also means that these Dems better dot their "i's" and cross their 't's" because you know that the whole state is watching them, and the first time they really screw up the Republicans will be back with a vengeance.

And speaking of vengeful Republicans, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard took a meeting with Donald Trump at Trump Towers, so I am not at all sure what part she is going to play in Hawaii's future, or even if she plans on remaining in the Democratic party.

I hear she has big ambitions, and her relationship with the DNC is rocky to say the least.

I so hope the State of Alaska eventually goes down that path and rids themselves of the Republican majority in the Alaska Legislature as well as in the U.S.Congress.

It's way, way past time we no longer have to look at the white Republican faces of Lisa Murkowski, Don Young and Ohio Dan!

Love that Democrats have taken majority control of the great, and beautiful, State of Hawaii!

I have vacationed throughout their islands many times (for the past forty) and find them God's gift for peacefulness, beauty, smells and relaxation each time I take my position on one of their beaches.

Vacationing there is always time well spent!

Here's to Hawaii being a beacon to states all over the country.
Electing Republicans to office, any office, is bad for all living things.

Link? It's commonplace to include the reference when you quote something.
If you're even serious, which I doubt.

Too lazy to look it up for yourself? Despite given all you need to easily find it? How sad.

In 2017 our 2 Senators and Congresswomen will be Democrats, and female.

    Go NH!

I have decided that I will speak with my wallet. I will only support businesses in blue states, businesses who are not protriump, businesses who are pro- republican

Trump is looking for his token Dem or two (so far two and both are younger and good-looking minority females--figures) to put in positions, but he's also looking at Gabbard because he and Conway and Bannon want to keep the Dems from uniting. Bannon especially likes her or, rather, that she isn't a traditional Dem and he is looking to see people like her and Tim Ryan keeping things stirred up in such a way that the new blood and old blood don't mix and the Dems don't get their act together for the midterm elections and after. She didn't sign the letter that 169 other Dems in the House signed in condemnation of Bannon as Trump's pick as a right-hand man--obviously, that is being rewarded with a meeting. Like another poster said, Gabbard supports keeping Assad in power and she is big on the GOP background checks policies and some other things. She has a National Guard background/awards and medals and some very conservative ways, although like other Hawaiians she's big on the environment. Word was the other day that she is being considered for a UN ambassador job, and today it's being said that she's also being considered for SOS and Defense. Yeah, right, like she has enough experience. Not. But an ambassador job would be something she could probably handle, with a good deal of learning on the job. And we know Trump is appointing many second-tier people and the pickings are slim when it comes to people truly suited to the top-level positions, so putting her into the UN position would be expected. While she has a military service background, she has only been in the House three years and has a bachelor's in business and not nearly enough relative non-military experience. Hers doesn't even come close to the education and experience that Susan Rice had when she got the job in 2008. Ambassador to something, okay. To the UN? Nope. The position has grown increasingly important over the past couple decades. Some of those who have held that position of late are Madeleine Albright, Bill Richardson, Richard Holbrooke, John Negroponte, John Bolton (yeah, I know), Susan Rice, Samantha Power. All these people had job-related educations and advanced degrees, many in law, beyond a bachelor's and much more related experience and positions before becoming ambassador.

Negroponte, what a human rights advocate!

Yeah, I guess that lack of experience thing SHOULD prevent anyone from gaining experience. Sigh.

And now Trump's seriously considering Ben Carson to head HUD. The guy has no related experience. Being African American doesn't make him ready to lead Housing of Urban Development. Carson took himself out of the running for another position just last week. He admitted he was not qualified to head a department (and we know how it left people scratching their heads since he's run for pres). But Trump is being insistent on rewarding his most loyal supporters. Doesn't matter how unqualified they are. Sleepy, slow-moving Ben Carson would not be able to handle the intense pressures of HUD for even a day. Everyone knows that Trump has all second-tier and lower people to select from, but come on, Carson?!

Tulsi Gabbard is now showing her true allegiance to the GOP. Her attacks on DWS during the election caused lots of harm to the party. She's no Dem Hero. Her family is hardline Rethug, and they all belong to a recognised bizarre Hindu cult, they hold anti-LGBT, abortion agendas including Tulsi, her husband & closest advisor.

She is a stealth hardline rethug who only ran for office as a Dem because it would have been to difficult to get elected here as a Rethug, even with her good looks, vet experience etc.

She claims she went to visit Drumpf because she wants to steer him away from more war. That's BS, she's a definite hawk against Islam. Lately she exposed herself by heavily criticizing Obama for not saying Radical Islam & saying what a weak President he is. Wonder where she heard that?

She just got re-elected - DAMN! But thankfully many Dems are having serious questions about her, but many more are defending her. She's very smooth, but I think it'll become more apparent where her allegiances lie as time goes on. It can't be soon enough.
