New York introduces new legislation to ban conversion therapy, names it after Mike Pence. Seems appropriate.

Courtesy of the Daily Dot:

Erie County in Western New York will start debating a new piece of legislation this December that aims to locally ban the harmful practices of "conversion therapy," which falsely claims to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity with a series of mostly discredited treatments, including psychological abuse and psychotropic medication.

The law's name also has a message. It's called PENCE: Prevention of Emotional Neglect and Childhood Endangerment.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence is well-known for his anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and advocacy for conversion therapy. As governor of Indiana, he has supported government funding to institutions "which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior." He has also discouraged government support of the Ryan White Care Act, a federally funded program for people living with HIV/AIDS, saying that supporting it would mean funding organizations that "celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus."

Of course conversion "therapy" is where a gay person is told they are a dirty sinner who will burn in a pool of fire if they don't start pretending to like the opposite sex.

Undoubtedly the same therapy that this guy went through so you can see it works like a charm.

This BS is already outlawed in Vermont, California, New Jersey, Illinois and Oregon, as well as the District of Columbia, and the is opposed by the American Psychiatric Association, but apparently there are still quite a number of states that have not yet received the memo.

I think naming it after Trump's VP choice Mike Pence is a brilliant move since it fairly clear this guy can barely tolerate people having regular sex much less gay sex.

  1. Boy, were the three of us lucky to be raised by the intelligent parents we were. We were prodded to go to mass till maybe age 13, but after that they laid off. As a divorced Catholic in the 60s, my mother equally encouraged us to bring a questioning skepticism to whatever we were taught. Nor would she have ever entrusted this gay son - or any kid of hers - to strangers over her own protective instincts.

Mom passed away a week ago yesterday at 86. I'm grateful for her wisdom.

I knew that Pence bastard would be trouble when he proudly announced he is a Christian first, conservative second and Republican third. Which is a perfect explanation for his Trumpian support. What a sorry sumbitch.

    2. As a wiser wordsmith than I once noted, sometimes what appears to the onlooker as plain homophobia is instead "anguished self-interrogation."

There is no money for social security and medicare but they manage to find it for conversion therapy.

Is this the changes to Obamacare that the republicans want, so people like Marcus Bachman can bleed they system with their phony therapies?

    1. You know, you and your significant other, lights turned down low, AC/DC playing in the background, liberal application of cooking oil, light restraints, only one well behaved pony involved, regular sex.

Gee, you all must be a bunch of weirdos.
