A last pitch by Hollywood to appeal to the conscience of the Electoral College.

Donald Trump has not been elected president. The real election takes place December 19, when the 538 Electoral College Electors cast their ballots – for anyone they want.

If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, in 14 of the states in Trump's column, they can vote for Hillary Clinton without any legal penalty if they choose.

We are calling on “Conscientious Electors” to protect the Constitution from Donald Trump, and to support the national popular vote winner.

Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic.

I have to admit that I was not on board with this attempt to get the electors to change their vote, but the closer we get to D-Day (January 20th) the more I am looking for must about ANYTHING to stop the inevitable from being inevitable.

Here is the petition if you feel the same.

The thing I like about this PSA is that it points out that the electors don't have to vote for Hillary. If Don the Con doesn't get 50% of the electoral votes, the election goes to the House, even if he has more EC votes than anyone else. The House will then install whoever they want, which of course would be a republican, but if the conman loses both the popular vote and the EC vote, I doubt they'll put him in. They'll no doubt choose someone odious, but probably someone with a presidential temperament. Although in all likelihood it would be Pence.

      Pence becomes president

Then President Pence will be able to pardon President-elect Trump, Ivanka (?), Erik (?) and Trump's accomplices for conspiring with Vladimir Putin who hacked the election for Trump. Well what the conspiracy books will say.

I'd be happy to see this done just to get things on the record for history's sake. Anything that can go on the record needs to.

And I think he'd be fine leaving the presidency on his own, but if it were forced on him he'd be so pissed. Oh, the tweeting--imagine!

Don't understand why you, Gryph, would against the petition to persuade the EC to do right by the country, and not support by votes an obviously un-fit-to-lead candidate. Can you explain?

Unfortunately nothing trump does is against the law anymore. I don't know how that came to be, but it be.

Everywhere in the world that I've seen people commenting on the worst thing that happened in this terrible year it's Trump. True, I've seen nothing from Syria.

Every single day he gives the electors more reason to save America from him and his corrupt cronies.

"VOTE FOR ME OR PERISH BY MY TINY ORANGE HAND."

    ● “We have gotten reports from multiple people,” the elector said, “that the Donald Trump campaign is putting pressure on Republican electors to vote for him ...

    ● We’re also learning right now that, with five days to go until the electors meet,

KEEP IN MIND, 5 DAYS BEFORE THE ELECTORAL MEET, THIS POST IS WRITING ABOUT THREATS THEY SAID THEY RECEIVED

    Wonkette:
Donald Trump Intimidating Electoral College, OMG WE ARE FOR SHOCKED!

In news we completely expected, but yet are so very, for real shocked to learn, it sounds like Donald Trump has seen those stories about “Hamilton Electors” encouraging Republican members of the Electoral College to get a grip, do its historical duty, and deny Trump the presidency, and has figured he should send a message to the electors too: VOTE FOR ME OR PERISH BY MY TINY ORANGE HAND. An elector spoke to Salon, anonymously of course, and confirmed what no one could have predicted:

“We have gotten reports from multiple people,” the elector said, “that the Donald Trump campaign is putting pressure on Republican electors to vote for him based on . . . future political outcomes based on whether they vote for Donald Trump or not.”

The elector emphasized that these reports had come straight from the Republican electors themselves, with the threats steering clear of violence but instead focusing on “career pressure.”

“It’s all political, basically,” the elector said. “If Trump becomes the president, he’s going to be able to put pressure on the state parties and they won’t be involved anymore.”
That’s right, if those electors actually take seriously what Alexander Hamilton said in Federalist No. 68, that the Electoral College is meant to stand as a bulwark against an unqualified person who merely possesses “[t]alents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity” (Hamilton might as well have spelled Trump’s name in Pig-Latin), and understand their responsibility to keep the nation from falling into the hands of a tyrant influenced by a foreign nation (Russia!), and thus vote against Trump, then Trump will RUIN THEM.

It’s nice that Trump’s cabal hasn’t threatened violence (yet). Wouldn’t want the electors to have to hire private security like Megyn Kelly did.

This is, of course, happening as more electors are signing onto an open letter to Director Of National Intelligence James Clapper, begging and pleading that they might be given a full intelligence briefing on just how beholden Donald Trump’s campaign is to Vladimir Putin’s Sex Body, and also too, just how much Russia’s meddling has weakened the integrity of the 2016 election.

We’re also learning right now that, with five days to go until the electors meet, according to Harvard constitutional law professor Lawrence Lessig, there might be as many as twenty Republican electors ready to put down the Trump sauce and decide to love America instead.

.... Now, granted, we absolutely believe Trump would continue to threaten private citizens if this happened, but if he were actually denied the presidency, his threats would be thin-skinned and toothless, wouldn’t they? What’s he going to do, ban the electors from staying at his tacky-ass, brass-plated resorts?

DON’T BE PUSSIES, YOU GUYS, YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU RIGHT NOW.

Russia is known for intervening in the politics of many more countries.

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/russia-cyber-warfare-election-hack-1.3896613

Russia has actively targeted Germany, France, Britain, Poland, Sweden and NATO.

    Excerpt:
"To view the cyberattacks on Hillary Clinton's campaign, then, as a unique offence — as many Americans seem to do — is to miss the full picture.

Western Europe has been a far more consistent target of what some intelligence chiefs now see as "hybrid warfare" emanating from the Kremlin.

European spymasters have repeatedly expressed alarm over the years about a sharp rise in Russian espionage under Vladimir Putin. But what is far more worrisome are the attempts to destabilize Western governments through the same cocktail of political interference.

These attacks involve the hacking of parties and state agencies, fake news stories, financial support of far-right parties and relentless propaganda by Russian state networks and social media to stir up populist anger against establishment parties."

WE KNOW THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE ARE THREATENED BY SOMEBODY TO VOTE FOR TRUMP.

IT'S A COINCIDENCE RAPE VICTIM DROPPED CHARGES BECAUSE OF THREATS BY SOMEONE.

It's a coincidence Electoral College are being threatened to vote for Trump

Woman suing Trump over alleged teen rape drops suit, again

By JOSH GERSTEIN 11/04/16 07:03 PM EDT Updated 11/04/16 10:04 PM EDT

A woman who accused Donald Trump of raping her two decades ago when she was a 13-year-old aspiring teen model has again dropped a federal lawsuit over the alleged assaults.

The accuser, identified in the lawsuit by the pseudonym "Jane Doe," was expected to appear at a news conference in Los Angeles Wednesday, but that appearance was abruptly canceled.

The lawyer who organized the event, Lisa Bloom, said Trump's accuser had received threats and was too frightened to show up.

Will the Electoral College do what's best for America or be like the 13 year old rape victim.

They too will not go against Trump.

    What a coincidence

Lyn Van Swol, a University of Wisconsin-Madison communications professor who has studied political deception, said Trump in some ways fits the model of those who dissemble — they tend to be verbose, as if concocting a structure of support for their misstatements.

But Trump also uncommonly commits falsehoods to writing — via Twitter. That’s rare because it is “much more high-stakes, much more permanent,” she said. Nor does he adjust his assertions after being informed — in Trump’s case repeatedly — that he is wrong.

No no no! This is beyond a bad idea and a horrendous precedent to even consider doing. Like it or not, we have an electoral college. Electors are either statutorily pledged to their states or they are bound because that is what has happened every time for 240 years.

Lets see another scenario. Let us imagine if Bernie was the nominee and won the electoral vote but not the popular vote. Then there was a movement that he was too (socialist, jewish, old, grumpy, whatever) and they lobbied the electoral college to pick someone else or throw it into the House of Representatives and let them decide for us. We would be rightly howling over the outrage and disenfranchisement.

If this were to happen, I fear we would split the country like the Civil War. I'm serious, this would cause an armed insurrection by all the right wing nuts and there might not be any putting it back together again. BTW - who do you think has more guns?

This is the sort of stuff you talk about in your dorm room or on reddit but you don't actually try it because it would tear the country down.

What we need to do is respect the election and then starting January 21 have a conversation with the American people about the country they want to have. Hopefully in 2020 we will have convinced them that it is fundamentally different than the country they were living in for the past 4 years.

I would love to know what's being done by nerds to find a Putin-Trump link that shows Trump was in-the-know when Putin was hacking. There is word out there now that Trump's campaign knew. And now the press sec in the WH is basically saying so. They HAVE to get a piece of evidence out there! I know there was talk in Nov. regarding Russia having had contact with the campaign. I'm talking about something with details that are about what Putin was up to.

Encourage the Electoral College to switch their votes? Sure, lets give the public one more reason to be sure their vote doesn't count.

  16. It's not going to happen.

The biggest problem with these pitches is they end with "vote for Hillary".

Yet another bad move by the Democrats.

They should instead be appealing to patriotism and simply ask that they vote their conscience for someone that is fit and qualified. Once they ask, tell or demand that it be Hillary, they have undermined their argument.

They dont have to chose Hillary. They can pick a republican we can all live with....I mean, "live with" has become relative all of a sudden, compared to having Drumpf in the WH.

Personally, if I had to choose any Republican it would be Jon Huntsman. He seems the most sane of the lot. Which is why even his own Republicans won't make him President.
