Arctic Herbery's opening Thursday afternoon marked the beginning of marijuana retail sales in Alaska's largest city, about six weeks after the state's first store opened in Valdez.
Last week, Arctic Herbery opened with only "clones" — immature marijuana plants — in stock.
By 11:40 a.m., about 50 people waited in a line that curved around the perimeter of the property.
Bryant Thorp, owner of Arctic Herbery, had set up a shuttle service, as he has only a handful of parking spots at the store, and the shuttle brought a steady flow of customers to the shop.
I actually think that this might be a future source of cash for Alaska now that the oil is no longer as reliable a source of revenue as it was once upon time.
It certainly has been a boon to the economy in Colorado.
I don't see how it would be any different here.
Personally I am still not terribly interested in firing up a doobie (As the young kids say today.), but I am a little curious about the edibles.
The edibles are very strong..just eat a small piece of whatever you buy and wait about an hour before you eat more...lol..
ReplyDeleteThere are so many different products now. Edibles were my salvation for pain and nausea after chemo. I didn't want to get high as chemo knocks you out as it is. But there are a number of options that have less effect on the brain and more on the body. So glad this is happening!
DeleteNice to see such an orderly line.
ReplyDeleteGood advice! I've had it in brussel sprouts and brownies.
ReplyDeletePS. I'm 74 years old lol!
Same here.Muffins,fudge,brownies,butter.
DeleteThe research is promising. It appears to be helping many people.
ReplyDeleteI can personally attest to that.
DeleteI was a recreational user in my youth.
Now, I'm old and have major nerve damage from Lyme disease(diagnosed too late for antibiotics to help at all). POT WORKS!
You'll be amazed how it'll turn your economy around! My family has grows and shop in Cali. $$$$$$$$$$$ Enjoy your Green Xmas ;)
ReplyDelete~ Ice-cooled bong ~
ReplyDeleteI know there's a head shop close by...
Snow bong .
DeleteGoing to Ore. for xmas. Edibles for xmas eve. Mmmmm Mmmmm :)
DeleteJust don't eat too much at once... or you will not have a pleasant experience. Get it right and you will be smiley for hours. Try a little bit, 10 mg or less, maybe 5 if you haven't had weed in a while, and wait. Learn what works for you and start small.
ReplyDeletejust returned to Ca. here, after about 10 years away. Advances are pretty impressive...I would suggest you try a vaporizer :) tho the medical facilities now also have salve, tincture, every form of thc or cbd...OH !!! and, also, if you can get something with just the CBDs, it is not psychoactive, and will control pain without getting you high. Great possibilities here !!
ReplyDeletePBO just made cbd's illegal.
DeleteDoes anyone know if this new store is hiring? I've had experience as a 'Greeter' at Walmart.
ReplyDeleteEdibles are not available up here yet and won't be for quite some time. The way the law is written, everything sold in Alaska must be grown and (in the case of edibles, oils etc) also manufactured here. There is no existing infrastructure to derive, create and test the ingredients needed for edibles and the extracts needed to create them. Unfortunately Comrade Drumpf will have all the owners and employees of these shops in private prisons with TRUMP across the front of them, long before any edibles end up in Alaska shops
ReplyDeleteI can't smoke things since smoke as always bothered me but edibles are quite tasty. We've got to stop criminalizing this herb. It may have long term negative effects with heavy use but I think sugar might edge it out in terms of danger. Besides, sugar has zero good qualities and pot does.
ReplyDeleteClones? Then it is legal to grow for personal use again? Without a medical MJ card?
ReplyDeleteI hope current and future entrepreneurs have checked what PEOUS and his attorney general nominee think about states' rights as far as selling what is still classified as a schedule one drug.
ReplyDeleteI'd hate to see people get all excited about this and sink small fortunes into the business only to have their property confiscated and end up in jail.
The short term benefits tend to out way the long term possibilities. That's why people are investing in grows ect regardless of the feds shutting it down. Tenders alone are earning $8000-$9000 a month.
DeleteYou seriously don't see a difference with Colorado?
ReplyDeleteThey have an economic base that AK cannot match. They have their neighboring states that are contributing to their sales.
I'm not against the sale of Marijuana in your state, but please be honest about what type of a boom it will provide. You first need people with disposable income to legally purchase the product.
HeidiWY
WTF?
Delete"They have their neighboring states that are contributing to their sales."
I guess you've never heard of anyone ever visiting Alaska. We don't ever get anyone from neighboring states but we DO get all sorts of people from neighboring countries and the lower 48. It's apples and oranges anyway since Colorado's apparently enormous economic base dwarfs Ak's but the AK population dwarfs Colorado's.
"You first need people with disposable income to legally purchase the product"
This is laugh out loud funny. You clearly don't understand anything about economics OR Alaska. Not surprising considering you voted for Chaney hmmm. How many times in a row? The stupid really hurts with this one.
And why, 12:05, are you so disparaging with a simple question/statement? They were simply requesting clarification. No need to go on the attack,my friend.
Delete12:05 thinks there's more population in AK than CO!
DeleteWe were tryin' different things,we were smokin ' funny things singin' sweet home Alabama all summer long..
ReplyDeleteIf weed isn't naughty, it's only medicinal... effective but boring.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think this is one "state's rights" issue that the Trump administration is going to object to. I think Trump and his Fascists are going to put a stop to Marijuana in every state that has voted for it.
ReplyDeleteBecause that's the way they roll.
