I think the 2016 year in photographs presented by White House photographer Pete Souza is exactly what we all need right now.

These are some of my favorites.

To see the rest just click here.

  1. Pete will go down in history as the best WH photographer. He has an amazing eye and is seemingly prescient to capture real, not set up, moments.

President Obama and his family are incredibly photogenic too. They are so real, so much like normal people that you could possibly know.

I love them, I'm going to miss their presence, and am excited to see what their next chapter is going to be.

    1. Beautiful comment. Agreed on each point.

Was going to say the same, 5:13. We were so lucky to have had such a talented person as Souza to document these years of the best family to live in the White House in my long lifetime.

I'm so happy I voted for President Obama both times! He and his family are going to be horribly missed once the second term is over (January, 2017).

I'm so worried as to what is going to occur with having Donald Trump at the helm. I still don't understand how the man ever was elected!

    Pray for America everyone!

G: so good of you to point us toward these pix. I would have missed them without you.

I can't imagine the ordeal of the next 4 years. We have been so very lucky for the past 8 years. Way more than we deserve. I guess that's why it's going this way.

Remember the photo of the little boy wanting to touch the President's hair? A real tear-jerker for me.

    Thank you again, G.

I hope a really thick picture book comes out after this is all over--I want one that will capture his final days in office. Unfortunately, Lardass will probably appear in at least one photo. I'll have to find a way to cover that thing. I've never bought a single presidential memento but will of Pres BO.

In the full set of pics here, the one in April with him landing in LA on AF 1, and with so much beautiful blue and his figure in the lit doorway, gets to me. Right now I have an Xmas lights display as my computer's wallpaper, but after the holidays I'll replace it with that hopeful and inspiring pic.

I agree with you 6:54 PM I would proudly purchase the book and display it in my living room, family room or den for all guests to view.

President Obama is such an outstanding man!

It is completely impossible for me to imagine Trump in any of these photos. Oh, well, maybe one. With Putin.

America doesn't know how good President Obama was or how great he could have been had the Republicans decided to give him a chance. The Obamas have been an extraordinary example of the best of America. The incoming "family" represents the opposite in ways too numerous to mention.

So, Chrome has an extension that will replace pictures of T***p with random cat pics...but it's not all the time and can be very funny and unexpected...Sometimes it replaces Kellyanne, which is never a bad thing. I highly recommend it as you will find yourself snorting at least once or twice a day!

The pictures personify who our President is, and that is a person with humility, humor, and flexibility. Donald is none of the above. Inflexible, thin skinned, spoonfed, crooked, sucker upper, crybaby, wannabe, orange, old, lack of intelligence, and the list could go well into 2017. And guess what folks? We have to babysit him for four years. Yay!

  9. Anonymous11:27 PM

President Obama is such a charismatic, dynamic man that it shines through in every photo that I've seen of him. I also get the impression that Angela Merkel has a similar personality. She seems to be very fun-loving and goid natured. There is no eay that Trump will be able to take the kind of photos that we see of Mr Obama, Michelle Obama and many other folks. Nothing but Trump's evil nature would ever shine through.

    1. Anonymous10:26 AM

Trump never comes across as warm, kind or gentle in nature. He shows himself to constantly be cold, no humor, elite, stiff and a constant racist and liar!

His White House (if he resides there at all) will be a cold place and have zero comparison to the Obamas or their White House!

Trump and his family members will NEVER warm my heart as has President Obama, d First Lady Michelle and their lovely daughters.

Oh Im gonna miss him and the first family. It has been a pleasure to watch them grow.

    1. I so agree with you. They reflect their status, which seems to be loving, honest, intelligent, wanting to help anyone else and perhaps above all dignity. For the record, I am a white, older Southern woman. I know that I am not alone in my admiration of this family. Racism is SO passe. to add a little humor. Just want everyone to know, not all Southerners are lowlife jerks. Happy New Year and I do mean happier than the last one has been! Thank you G. and please tell Levi and Sunny and their 3 that I wish them a wonderful New Year. Keep us up with their doings as it doesn't invade on their lives. Lots of us really DO care about them but don't want to over step. Happy New Year to you and your daughter and all others dear to you. I have been here a long time and plan to stay a while longer. Take care.

One of the pictures at the site is just stunning; it shows a little boy gazing up at President Obama in awe, and our President reaching down to touch his face. It's a sweet, sweet picture. I would buy a copy of that picture.

  12. I'm sure Trump will hire a private photographer to pose appropriate photos that will be released after Trump's approval.

    Standard non-disclosure of course.

The House wants all photography and filming banned from the house floor. Because they were embarrassed by that sit-in the Democrats staged. They closed session and C-Span cut off, but the Dems used their smart phones to film it and C-Span picked up their video.

So now the Fascists are trying to make it illegal to take photos or video.

    There's your Trump Democracy.

  13. Anonymous10:21 AM

They'll figure a way to get things out and good for them. Non disclosure - anti media - under Trump and the Republicans will NOT work!

  14. Anonymous11:25 AM

And could any of us even imagine the orange anus being in any of these photos? These pictures show grace, dignity, humanity, humor, confidence, and compassion, all characteristics of our President. It will be so hard to have Trump in office.

  15. Anonymous12:09 PM

The picture of him walking around wearing the virtual reality goggles is apropos.

Don't feed the trolls!
It just goes directly to their thighs.
