British intelligence tipped off the US to Russian hacking way back in the fall of 2015. Also tracked communications between Trump advisors and Moscow.

Courtesy of The Guardian:

British intelligence reportedly provided a vital tipoff to the US in 2015 about the extent of Russian hacking on the presidential election.

The report on the UK’s involvement came after US intelligence agencies published an unclassified version of their finding that Vladimir Putin ordered a multi-pronged operation to interfere in the election in favour of Donald Trump.

The New York Times, citing “two people familiar with the conclusions” of the report, said British intelligence was “among the first” to raise the alarm in autumn 2015 that Moscow had hacked the computer servers of the Democratic National Committee.

The Brits also noticed something else:

Over the course the campaign, British officials were as alarmed as their US counterparts over the extent of contacts between Trump advisers and Moscow and by Trump’s consistently pro-Russian stance on a range of foreign policy issues.

Well isn't that interesting? And completely unsurprising?

Here's more:

Allegations about the depth and nature of contacts between the Trump camp and Moscow have been passed to the FBI but it is unclear whether they are the subject of a full investigation.

There was no reference to them in the public version of the joint intelligence report on Russian interference in the election, compiled by the CIA, FBI and NSA.

You know if the FBI can undermine Hillary Clinton's campaign with a last minute, and false, suggestion that she might soon be under criminal indictment, then why are they saying nothing about a possible criminal investigation of Donald Trump before he is sworn into office?

Never mind, I think the answer to that question is because the FBI, or at least director James Comey, may have been compromised in some way.

Which makes me wonder just who else the Russians managed to hack in the lead up to this election?

What I don't understand is this. Way back in 2015 we were saying that Russia was into our business. We already knew that. But I read somewhere that the Koch Bros. were also out to get Hillary. And then the Republicans kind of nudged all the anti Hillary stuff into the limelight. It seemed that the GOP was in cahoots. Now the Russians are in the limelight.
I am just curious as to why the Republicans are now standing back and letting Russia take the blame too. I mean we on this site knew two things. Our election was being tampered. The news was being fed to us superficially. Oh, and another thing. Trump has an unhealthy admiration for dictators who kill their opposition.
I personally think that this whole fiasco was on design and the Republicans, Kochs, and Russians were in on this. Not really in the name of idealogy but in the name of money. Money to be had in this great world that's tottering on the precipice of being pushed too far into an unhealthy status of rising temperatures, or maybe being green.

At one point the Kochs were not for Trump winning the election, but of course it's all about money with them. There are a # of articles and also books about their dirty dealings that began with the type of father they had, a man who built oil refineries first for Stalin and then Hitler. He knew exactly what Stalin was about when he provided Soviet Russia with the ability to fuel the military, and Hitler was already in charge, and anyone with a brain over there could see what was up, before he built Nazi Germany's refinery. Fred Koch may not have ever given Hitler the Nazi salute, but his partner did:

An international corporate oligarchy runs this country, not Congress and not POTUS or his cabinet.

Now that they have one of their own at the helm of the US they are even stronger and can finally accomplish all of the things they've been planning.

While the POTUS has little power against them Obama did try to stymie some of their efforts, especially regarding environmental issues, but sadly, expect things to go backwards rather quickly in the next 4-8 years.

I have always thought that Papa Koch's involvement in the John Birch Society had more to do with protecting himself from the Communist witch hunts just after WW2 than with his own "anti-Communism." He had made his fortune in Russia in the 1920's and left to avoid Stalin's sudden ire. I guess Koch was found to have made too much money from the Soviet Union for his own good.

Honest to God, Gryph, I don't know why President Obama appointed Comey in the first place. His record is so easily researched.

There was a time during the election when, rather than deny having had any contact with the Russians like they are doing now, Trump's camp said they sure did and there was nothing wrong with it. They were waving any accusations of wrongdoing away with their hand and smarmy tone. What, really, was the nature of those meetings, I'd love to know. They'd dismiss them as being nothing, but of course they were something. And Britain was watching, and for a long time. I really want the details on what they discovered. Who met whom, and so on.

The FBI is seeming rather "keystone coppish" these days, omitting this and then the fact that they released a firearm back to Esteban Santiago after he told them he was hearing voices telling him to do harm. Not the most shining example of American LEO organizations, that's for sure.

This is OT, but it's yet one more thing about the person Trump is, a POS devoid of empathy and judgment. There are a number of articles on this, but I'm pasting in a link that says that both Dems and Repubs are "livid" that Trump has fired the 89-year-old man who has been the inauguration announcer since Eisenhower. Who fires an 89-yr-old American icon, an institution? In other articles I read so many things that communicated how beloved this man is, and the Secret Service once made a comment that the job was surely going to be his for life:

Yeah I that earlier. The new announcer is a Trump supporter. Trump also refused the Obama's offer of Malia and Sasha's swing set too. Is Barron so fucked up he can't play on a swing set or is his daddy planning to buy a really ugly gold plated one.

Barron is a carbon copy of his father, according to Melania, and she calls him Little Donald? YIKES at merely ten years old. WTF are they raising? Swing sets are for babies.

    3. Anonymous1:19 PM

Thanks for that info. I was going to check if the new guy was a Trump voter. It was my guess and that the old guy was a Dem voter. When I read up on the old guy, how he is from a Russian-Jewish immigrant family, that was the only thing that surprised me re firing him.

109 Drumpf has grandkids younger than Barron. Hell Ivanka and her spawn are taking up residence down the street from the Obamas. Surely they would come and visit.

1:41 PM - Growing up in that bubble makes for WEIRD. No normal childhood, as the Obamas strived to give Malia and Sasha, of whom will no doubt go on to make their mark on the world.

Barron well on his way to being an entitled brat.

Plus I do think he is autistic, and Sidwell Friends is private, so they don't HAVE to take him. Let him and Mommy the porn model stay in NYC. It's obvious that Ivanka is Daddy's choice for FL anyway. Too bad the GOP will never hold them accountable for the selling of America to Russia.

First of all who allowed traitor trump to fire this guy?

Second who is he going to replace him with? some bimbo in a bikini holding a sign.

Barron seems a little old for a swing set, but the traitor does have grandchildren.

I am sure he doesn't think it was good enough since it wasn't gold plated.

The big question to Trump by all reporters is "What did you know and when did you know it?" This is the question that Sen. Howard Baker (R-TN) asked everyone involved in Watergate. He so wanted Nixon to be innocent but came around in the end.

I think that what the British found became part of the "threads" of evidence that ultimately became the report that Trump has been so busy lying about.

I sure wish the media (i.e., The New York Times) had taken all of those hints (Manafort, Lewandowski, Flynn, DNC hacking, promulgation of fake news, etc.) more seriously during the campaign. I'll never forgive the NYT for thinking that last minute nonsense about emails was more important than concerns about Russian influence in the Trump campaign.

To me, the answer is obvious: the infiltration is not just hacking but also influence in exactly those places that might otherwise have stopped it, publicized it, called everyone's attention to it.

Why are we thinking that the hacking is all there was? There were contacts (between Putin's and Trump's teams: those contacts were for a purpose. Was the purpose realized? Probably -- either in part, or more.

We have been cooked, folks. Just because the evidence isn't black and white, it does seem so obvious to me. Based on the way Russia has behaved over many years.

Now what? I am sure Putin has a plan, a wishlist. Do we? Where is the Dem leadership on this?

My tripwire moment regarding trump ties to Russia came early in his campaign when he declared NATO obsolete and indicated he would only defend NATO countries if they paid their full share.

The man is dumber than a box of rocks and understands very little of current world events. So my question was how was he able to offer a position on this somewhat obscure detail of foreign policy and why was that position pro-Russian without it being fed to him.

There is still a depth of cooperation that is not coming to the surface between trump and Russia. Also, I always wondered how Paul Manafort got mixed up with the trump campaign and if he wasn't hooked up with the campaign by putin's operatives.

My guess is this all has to do with trump owing money to Russian oligarchs.

  23. Anyway you look at it, this election is tainted beyond certification. And there is nothing we can do about it.

Because their candidate won, the Republicans don't intend to do anything about the many irregularities and illegalities involved in this travesty. Hell, they're responsible for the tens of thousands of voters in each state being disenfranchised. They're responsible for the gross negligence and incompetence of the voting process in so many states that make it impossible to do an accurate recount.

Is anyone surprised they are turning a blind eye and even defending this affront?

Just look at the North Carolina legislature. That's going to be national policy soon. When the Republicans are in power they will neuter the President (or Governor of a state) and when their guy is elected they'll vote it back. And if the Dems try to do that to their guy in a Democratically controlled Congress they'll scream bloody murder.

They're FASCISTS, plain and simple. It's about time we started to call a liar a liar, a fascist a fascist and a nazi a nazi.

No more mincing words or pussyfooting around. Just say it. Isn't that what Drumpf supporters so admired about the doofus that had no public policy. "He says what's on his mind."

We all need to be less polite and more blunt.
