Justice Department Inspector General to investigate how FBI handled Clinton e-mail case.

Courtesy of NBC News:

The Justice Department Inspector General says he will review how the FBI and Justice Department handled certain aspects of the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

The probe by Michael E. Horowitz will include a review of FBI Director James Comey's news conference in July and his two letters to lawmakers in late October and early November.

"In response to requests from numerous Chairmen and Ranking Members of Congressional oversight committees, various organizations, and members of the public, the Office of the Inspector General will initiate a review of allegations regarding certain actions by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in advance of the 2016 election," the Justice Department said in a statement.

Just 11 days before the 2016 general election, Comey notified Congress that the FBI was reviewing a new batch of emails that appeared to be pertinent to their investigation. The emails, discovered during a probe, were found on a laptop that former New York congressman Anthony Weiner allegedly used to send lewd text messages and pictures to an underage girl.

Well this is good news, which hopefully will see Comey punished for his sabotage.

Just yesterday Vox offered up an article that offers proof Comey's letter altered the outcome of his election:

Many people — most notably Trump and other Republicans — have scoffed at the claim that the letter changed the outcome of the election, suggesting that it’s a convenient excuse for a weak candidate who made some questionable strategic decisions.

But the Comey effect was real, it was big, and it probably cost Clinton the election.

Vox then offers up four pieces of evidence to support their contention.

The first is state polls:

To be sure, the gap with Clinton was narrowing before Comey dropped his bombshell, but the pace also picked up significantly after that. For example, averaging across 14 battleground states, the race moved 1.1 points in Trump’s direction in the week following the third and final debate — but Trump gained an additional 2.4 points after October 28.

National polls:

Sort of self explanatory.

Voter choices AFTER the Comey letter:

And media coverage of the two candidates:

Coverage of Clinton’s emails eclipsed her policy proposals and ended up being the only story about Clinton that stuck with voters. While 79 percent of registered voters had heard “a lot” about Clinton’s emails, only 23 percent heard “a lot” about Trump’s housing discrimination, 27 percent heard “a lot” about the Donald J. Trump Foundation’s illegal political contribution to the Florida attorney general, and, surprisingly, only 59 percent had heard a “a lot” about the Hollywood Access tape.

I think that this is more than enough evidence in a court of law to prove malfeasance on the part of the FBI director.

I just wonder what the appropriate punishment is for a law enforcement employee helping the Russian government destroy one candidate's chances of winning in order to help their opponent?

  1. There may be some punishment, the the GOP/Trump will have adequately compensated Comey et al. After they signed a non-disclosure contract. How many of those have been signed now -- probably hundreds. All those sticky fingers, fiddling for a price.

  2. I think it is called treason.

    1. Sedition might be more accurate.

I'm calling it a bloodless coup.

    2. Anonymous8:35 AM

      Or, traitors!

  3. Anonymous2:32 PM

It's never been in doubt that Comey's untrue unwarranted unfounded mud-slinging cost Hillary Clinton the election. He and the Republicans and the Trumpthing knew exactly what would happen, and they timed it perfectly. I hope Comey has a bad accident and I am delighted to see him back in the headlines- folks were forgetting about him and his sordid doings.

    1. Anonymous11:14 PM

Remember, they called it (some time in summer!) the 'coming October surprise'!

  4. Anonymous2:34 PM

And let's not forget the media's role, they could see there was nothing there, they knew the FBI hadn't bothered to apply for a warrant... but no, it was eeeeekmail!!!!

  5. Anonymous2:54 PM

It should also be looked into how much the FBI actually investigated Trump. Supposedly the former MI6 agent gave the report to his FBI contacts in the summer. At some point he gave it to British intelligence agencies as well because he was worried about a cover-up in America. I wonder if it would have been completely buried if John McCain had not personally handed it to Comey on December 9th.

  6. You asked "I just wonder what the appropriate punishment is for a law enforcement employee helping the Russian government destroy one candidate's chances of winning in order to help their opponent?"

I'd suggest something more severe than the lame penalty former General/CIA Director Patraeus paid for giving classified documents via email to his biographer/lover.

    Jail, for instance.

I have a feeling with the repeal of ACA, there will be more protesters.

    2. Anonymous8:34 AM

The Republican in Congress are fucking idiots - led by Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell!

They have nothing to immediately provide the millions that are currently insured under the Affordable Care Act! Yet they WILL repeal!

Vote them out of office - every damn one of them when the come up for reelection! Also, be sure to note that these assholes doing this deed are 'white' Congressmen that could care less about their fellow Americans!

The majority of the 'poor' are minorities - Blacks, Mexicans, Asians and some are White!

The 'white Republicans' in Congress are racist pigs pure and simple!

All Republicans do is obstruct (we watched eight years of it w/President Obama!) and show themselves to be inept and extremely uncaring about their fellow Americans.

I hope everyone realizes that those on the Hill have their own separate type of medical coverage that the taxpayers provide them! As long as they and their family members are cared for - with top of the notch medical care - and, that they are getting richer day by day, they could care less what happens to the rest of us throughout the country!

May each of them rot in Hell when their time comes and may they suffer a very, very painful death. It would be payback for the continued ill health and deaths they will create repealing The Affordable Care Act and not having a frigging thing on hand for immediate replacement for the millions already covered.

Fuck them! I detest their black souls!

  8. Hedgewytch3:40 PM

What Comey did was a clear violation of the Hatch Act. If convicted of such a violation, it would be up to a judge to decide what his punishment should be. Clearly the FBI itself should remove him from his position - at the very least.

  9. Anonymous3:48 PM

There is more sexual perversion involving Trump coming out. The piss shower was just the beginning.

  10. Anonymous3:48 PM

    oh no

TORONTO (AP) — Canadian actor Tony Rosato has died at age 62.

He was a veteran of comedy shows including "Saturday Night Live" and Canada's homegrown "SCTV."

Rosato's former agent Larry Goldhar has confirmed that Rosato died Tuesday. Goldhar says an autopsy is being done.

The Italian-born actor joined Martin Short and Robin Duke as the only three performers to have been cast members of "Saturday Night Live" and "SCTV," which was spun out of Second City shortly after "SNL" launched in the mid-1970s.

In 2005, Rosato was charged with criminally harassing his wife. He spent two years in prison awaiting trial before he was diagnosed with Capgras syndrome, a condition that made him believe his wife and daughter had been replaced by impostors. He was committed to a mental institution.

Isn't it interesting that Comey felt morally compelled to update the public on Clinton's investigation (even when he had no info to share) but not anything about Trump's being compromised by Russians, which he also knew about in advance of the election?

    1. Anonymous5:11 PM

      Yes, interesting indeed!

  12. Anonymous3:51 PM

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tore apart Ben Carson’s non-answer on whether or not any HUD money would go to Trump and his family to expose an incoming administration that is creating a climate of corruption.

Sen. Warren wanted assurances from Carson that not a single taxpayer dollar that Carson will give out will financially benefit Trump or family.

Carson answered, “I can assure you that the things that I do are driven by a sense of morals and values, and therefore I will absolutely not play favorites for anyone.”

Warren said that her question wasn’t about Carson’s good faith, but whether or not a single HUD dollar will be used to benefit President-elect Trump or his family.

Dr. Carson refused to give a straight answer, “It will not be my intention to do anything to benefit any American. It’s for all Americans.”

Sen. Warren came back strong, “Do I take that to mean you may manage programs that will significantly benefit the president-elect?”...

      Bahahahaa! Politicususa.

      Remember these headlines:

"Comey Letter Hurts GOP As Hillary Clinton Raised $11.3 Million Online In 72 Hours, By Jason Easley on Tue, Nov 1st"

"Trump Campaign Has A Nervous Breakdown After Comey Letter Fails To Swing The Election, By Jason Easley on Sun, Oct 30th"

"Hillary Clinton Maintains Swing State Leads As Comey Email Letter Flops, By Jason Easley on Sun, Oct 30th"

And that is just a few of their confident, uneducated, predictions.

Of course they had to quickly about face and change their tune after exposing their hubris and their embarrassing lack of credibility...

"New Details Show Hillary Clinton Was Right. James Comey Got Trump Elected President, By Jason Easley on Thu, Dec 22nd"

LOLOLOLOLOLOL. Keep grasping at straws. Hillary was a terrible candidate. She was compromised from before day one. Her loss comes as no surprise for those of us with our eyes wide open!

    2. Anonymous7:05 PM

4:48 PM The fact that you are LOLOLOLOLOLOLing and so clearly appear to believe Hillary was not a phenomenally more competent choice than the disaster known as Trump truly says a great deal about you. And none of it's good.

    3. Anonymous7:39 PM

4:48,did you get your check from the Kremlin or direct from Traitor Trump?

    4. 4:48 PM seems awfully *happy* that HRC lost the election.

    5. "Hillary was a terrible candidate. She was compromised from before day one. "
You are a moron. She was a highly qualified candidate to anyone who bothered to look past the decades of non-stop demonizing.

Politicususa does feature silly, over the top headlines, but their articles generally have plenty of information and links to their sources. In other words, plenty of opportunity to weigh the credibility of their articles.

You might want to consider that a string of lololololol's doesn't make you sound any more intelligent than a single lol. Idiot.

    6. Anonymous10:45 AM

Hillary Clinton won almost 2.9 million votes more than Donald Trump. What she had was a landslide in modern times. What happened was a bizarre confluence of states switching to Trump at the last minute. Such a sudden switch that rational people have to wonder what happened. Any election fraud last November was done by the GOP. Otherwise why would the GOP have gone to such trouble to stop the vote recounts in Michigan?

    7. Anonymous11:21 AM

She won a popular vote landslide in California, and that was about it. California gets it's share of Electors, but it does not get to represent who will be the President for the entire country just because a lot of Democrats vote there. There was no bizarre confluence of states switching to Trump last minute, that is a left wing myth. It was always going to be close in the Midwest states and the rust belt.... and the Clinton campaign ignored those people, instead Hillary chose to share the stage with mothers of thugs that died while committing crimes. Her downfall.

  13. Anonymous3:57 PM

There was a time when I still thought, well, if Comey finishes out his term at least Trump won't have a year or so of his own a-hole choice in there as head. But now I just want Comey fired. Comey needs to suffer that public indignation.

    1. I don't want him fired.

I want him indicted and then incarcerated.

  14. Anonymous4:06 PM

About damned time! What is the sentence for treason? Hanging?

    1. Anonymous8:08 AM

Treason or Traitor? I say the latter!

  15. Anonymous4:07 PM

Well, they've got until 11:00am or so on January 20, 2017. What happens after noon on that day will be disastrous for us all.

The Bizarre Far-Right Billionaire Behind Trump's Presidency

When all seemed to be falling apart for Trump this summer, one shadowy billionaire offered up his own massive political infrastructure, which included Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway, and saved Trump’s campaign from demise

  17. Anonymous4:31 PM

Comey needs to be put on trial and jailed due to betraying America and enhancing the ability for Donald Trump to win the election!
Trump, who already is showing the country and world of being a lair, fraud and ego maniac!

Both, Trump and Comey appear to be traitors - but, for two distinct different reasons.

To think we could currently be waiting for Hillary Clinton to take the oath of office for POTUS and were not legally given that opportunity!

Hopefully, enough will be proven to NOT allow Trump to take the oath of office. He's in bed w/Putin - we know that much already! More will come out and it doesn't appear it's going to be good for Donnie Boy!

    1. Anonymous5:06 PM

Are you still believing what you read in left wing blogs after all the miss-information and poor predictions they have been feeding you this last year? That is sad.

Well regardless. Just to ease you into this. There is a bunch of theatrics and post election excuses going on to try to appease the Democratic base. However theatrics is all it is. Donald Trump will be sworn in as President, as he handily won the election. All this business about rigging, Comey, etc... also has no basis in reality, and is just being used to stir the pot. But there is no meat there, and nothing is to come of it.

You should stop putting all your faith in your left wing blog reading.

    2. Ah yes the attempt to undermine actual factual news sources, so that people will not focus on the manipulations behind the scenes of this election.

      So predictable, and transparent.

    3. Anonymous6:15 PM

All this business about rigging, Comey, etc... also has no basis in reality
So you don't believe trump, he is the one that said over and over the election was rigged.

You should start believing trump lied to you!!

    4. Anonymous6:17 PM

He barely won the election and he will be sworn in but just to ease you into it he will be impeached.

    5. Anonymous6:20 PM

      5:06 - Hack spewing nonsense^

    6. Anonymous6:38 PM

I personally prefer Ms.Information for myselfthank you!

    7. Anonymous7:38 PM

During the campaign when Trump would tell his staff that he was worried about winning, they would tell him"You do know it's rigged?" Unfortunately, with his fifth grade understanding,he thought they meant against him,and started whining about it.

    8. It doesn't matter now. Even if there were concrete proof that Putin compromised the election and gave it to Trump and that Trump directly colluded with Putin, NOTHING CAN BE DONE.

That was what the Electoral College was for.

At this point the only recourse is to impeach him immediately after he takes the oath. That isn't going to happen. Not with the Republicans owning the House and the Senate.

We are stuck with that traitorous orange asshole piece of shit.

The Democrats aren't even going to put up a fight over the Orange Anus' nominees. Craven balless useless pieces of crap too.

We need a strong third party to kick them both to the curb.

    9. "handily won"
You might want to look up the definition of "handily", dimwit.

    10. Anonymous8:25 AM

306 to 232 is handily won, oh great self appointed genius you lolololol.

  18. Anonymous6:15 PM

The day he came out with his latest crap about the emails, I said to myself she just lost the election.

It also didn’t help that KellyAnn ConArtist made the rounds repeating Hillary had been indicted and NO ONE corrected her.

Appropriate punishment for treason: Gitmo for life. However my question is how far will this go if there is a new corrupt administration coming in?

    1. Anonymous6:32 PM

Appropriate question, since you are all throwing the word treason around as if it were going out of style, you must all be super experts on, treason.

So please, for us poor uneducated folks, please provide the exact US Federal Law, statute, code, section, with regards to treason, that has been broken? Please provide the legal framework for the treason you are so certain has been committed lol.

    2. Anonymous7:35 PM

      Hear,clueless,a 10 second Google.

    3. It won't go anywhere. If they are going to deny the role of Russia in the election, deny the hacking, say it had no effect, etc. you think they're going to investigate Comey? That will be dropped ON January 20. He's in like Flynn for 6 more years.

    4. Anonymous11:34 AM

Anybody can look that up 7:35 lol.... What you need to do is provide the exact evidence (factual evidence mind you- which still doesn't exist), and link it to the exact law to which it applies. Can you do that snowflake? Since you are so sure of treason, you need to take it all the way. Good luck buttercup.

  19. More importantly, a post election poll was taken of some undecideds who waited until the last days to decide. Many voted Trump and cited the Comey announcement.

So fuck him. Not that anything will come of it. Not until the Democrats are in charge and by then it will be too late.

  20. Anonymous11:13 PM

Well, they better get their act together FAST, because in just a week, they will be thwarted at every turn they take!

  21. Anonymous6:39 AM

He'll resign, but he'll walk. He'll land somewhere soft, where he'll be generously compensated, and be hailed as a Reich Wing "patriot". (Spits derisively).

It just goes directly to their thighs.
