The BBC refutes the idea that the fabled Russian dossier on Donald Trump can be dismissed as "fake news."

Courtesy of the BBC:

The opposition research firm that commissioned the report had worked first for an anti-Trump superpac - political action committee - during the Republican primaries.

Then during the general election, it was funded by an anonymous Democratic Party supporter. But these are not political hacks - their usual line of work is country analysis and commercial risk assessment, similar to the former MI6 agent's consultancy. He, apparently, gave his dossier to the FBI against the firm's advice.

And the former MI6 agent is not the only source for the claim about Russian kompromat on the president-elect. Back in August, a retired spy told me he had been informed of its existence by "the head of an East European intelligence agency".

Later, I used an intermediary to pass some questions to active duty CIA officers dealing with the case file - they would not speak to me directly. I got a message back that there was "more than one tape", "audio and video", on "more than one date", in "more than one place" - in the Ritz-Carlton in Moscow and also in St Petersburg - and that the material was "of a sexual nature".

The claims of Russian kompromat on Mr Trump were "credible", the CIA believed. That is why - according to the New York Times and Washington Post - these claims ended up on President Barack Obama's desk last week, a briefing document also given to Congressional leaders and to Mr Trump himself.

Mr Trump did visit Moscow in November 2013, the date the main tape is supposed to have been made. There is TV footage of him at the Miss Universe contest. Any visitor to a grand hotel in Moscow would be wise to assume that their room comes equipped with hidden cameras and microphones as well as a mini-bar.

It appears that the Trump team push back, and support from Right Wing news outlets labeling this "fake news," have been successful enough for the American press to have dropped it, however that really does not mean it is not credible.
And remember this fits in nicely with the pattern of Russian support and influence over Donald Trump that we have witnessed for ourselves this last year.

Now I personally have no means for determining if this story is valid or not, but if it is that simply reinforces what we already suspected, and that is that Trump is Putin's puppet.

  1. Anonymous11:39 AM

CNN is not in a meltdown, let alone a total meltdown. CNN covered an important story that they should have covered, and they did it responsibly and professionally. Trump doesn’t like it because the story is about him, and it is centered on a report by a credible source, that he has been compromised by Russia. This report is being verified by the intelligence community, but if it’s true, and it came from a credible source not some imaginary internet video like Trump uses as credible sources, it means impeachment at the very least for Trump. So it’s a big deal.

This accusation of “fake news” is Trump’s way of denying reality, and it must not be allowed to stand.

    1. Anonymous5:01 AM

Is Corey Lewandowski still on CNN's payroll?

  2. Anonymous11:41 AM

"Now I personally have no means for determining if this story is valid or not"
Never stopped drumpf from pushing his Birther lies. So, lets just assume every single negative, salacious story about drumpf is true until he provides his (long form) proof.

    1. Anonymous11:52 AM

Agreed. Personally I believe there is info that is damaging of both a sexual and financial nature. He'll always be guilty until proven innocent for me.

    2. Anonymous12:05 PM

And during the last weeks of the campaign Trump kept saying that a grand jury indictment of Hillary was coming at any moment. It wasn't.

    3. Anonymous3:17 PM

Claper dd NOT say the report was false, only that it has not been verified. So, tRump is still under suspicion. I have no doubt whatsoever that the Russians have the goods on this orange asshole. His reputation precedes him wherever he goes, so of course the Russians were ready for him. Hopefully the video shows up son, like the day BEFORE the crowning!!

  3. It fits his M.O. so it is probably true, but like Kelly C says...don't listen to his words...listen to his heart (whatever that means).

    1. Anonymous12:12 PM

He doesn't have a heart except in the physical sense. He, like Kelly, is a sociopath. Both are liars and evil. She is very practiced at her deflections and deceptions ... even more so than Don the Con. I think she is smarter than him.

    2. Anonymous1:43 PM

She acts as if she's Trump's defense lawyer and her job is to defend him no matter what, but if she had any ethical issues with him of course she could just walk away.

She's the kind of person who would defend a rapist-murderer, get him off, and when he raped and killed again she'd not feel bad at all. Not at all.

  4. Anonymous12:08 PM

And he is lying about what Clapper said. The real news has been reporting that this tweet goes against what Clapper really said. He, Clapper, even released a statement last night clarifying things--he did not want to be misunderstood or spun, and he needed to boost the morale of the agencies that Trump had shit on. But Trump figures that no one pats attention to anything said except for what he says, so he can lie all he wants.

  5. Anonymous12:10 PM

Here is a man who brags about sexually assaulting women (not buying the germaphobe defense Donald). Can Russian prostitutes be far behind? Kushner should have kept his day job.

    1. Anonymous12:29 PM

And if you google Chris Steele BBC you'll see other articles about him being in hiding b/c his name was released.

Given how Trump treated the BBC reporter (not just CNN) yesterday, and given how the spy is a Brit, maybe we can count on British reporting to keep after the dossier story (and others like it that will surface) when our own news gets lazy.

    2. Anonymous3:19 PM

My relatives in the UK despise tRump, shocked that he is going to be president.

  7. Anonymous12:21 PM

What struck me yesterday was that I didn't hear a peep out of Trump re suing Buzzfeed. This is what he likes to do and is what has happened with Melania's escort story and using that Hulk case lawyer. So, why no word on suing BF?

    1. Anonymous1:11 PM

I wish he would sue them, little fingers donnie would have to prove that the info was false and they did it with malice.

It would open up to discovery all kinds of goodies, like all his lies about not having ties to russia.

    2. Anonymous1:44 PM

      Yes, 1:11. I'd love that.

    3. Anonymous3:22 PM

Having seen the nude photos of Maleria, I doubt she could have supported herself in a NY apartment, even with roomates. Hardly sexy, just ordinary. Then she said she would fly home every few months. Where was the money coming from, since this was before she met the large orange turd. I DO think she was an escort.

    1. Anonymous3:24 PM

So that means ALLL photos of Don the Con will be removed? Hard to take a good photo of the bastard. Maybe he will only let that 6 foot painting of him that he paid $20,000 for with charity money be published when he tweets on a daily basis.

  9. Anonymous12:31 PM

Poor Donnie, harassed President Obama with his fake “I can prove you are not a citizen” for 8 years. Called Hillary and Clinton foundation crooked with no proof. Threatened to have Hillary indicted with no proof.

Now he is getting a taste of his own medicine and it is unfair, political witch hunt. Boo hoo.

Personally, I think they should have waited on the prostitute stuff until they had more proof; it just gave donnie more leverage to play the victim of the media and distract everyone from the proven evidence that is out there.

Anderson Cooper really took Kelly Ann down on CNN yesterday.

In the mean time while everyone is distracted by his circus, the senate is dismantling the ACA and nothing from the media.

    1. Anonymous1:50 PM

Yep, I had the TV on late last night. Sad. Well, maybe, since the GOP has no plan, if it really will take them a good while for them to finally have one, people will speak up enough to get them to decide not to implement the repeal. I couldn't believe what I read here posted by an IMer, how someone thrilled about the repeal of Obamacare was at the same time saying they were happy with their ACA. Unfrigginbelievable.

Well, I know what I just suggested is a not going to happen. There are just have such haters in congress. If they had their way, after 1/20 there would be no evidence of Obama's eight years as president anywhere on the government grounds in DC.

Obama Surprises Joe Biden By Awarding Him The Presidential Medal Of Freedom

An openly crying Vice President Joe Biden went from tears to shock as President Obama awarded the final Medal of Freedom of his time in office to the Vice President.

Video of a shocked Biden thinking that he was attending a tribute then being presented with the Medal of Freedom:

The closing days of this admin have just been incredible. Biden absolutely deserved that medal, and with the additional rare distinction.

O/T So now we know why traitor trump really chose that looney toon Carson for HUD:
Elizabeth Warren Grills Ben Carson On Trump Self-Dealing

SENATOR ELIZABETH WARREN, D-MA: If you are confirmed to lead HUD, you'll be responsible for issuing billions of dollars in grants and loans to help develop housing and provide a lot of housing-related services. Housing development is an area which President-elect trump and his family have significant business interests. Can you assure me that not a single taxpayer dollar that you give out will financially benefit the President-elect or his family?

BEN CARSON: Senator, I was worried that I wouldn't get that [question] [laughter] I can assure you that the things that I do are driven by a sense of morals and values and therefore I will absolutely not play favorites for anyone.
WARREN: Dr. Carson, let me stop right here. I'm trying to ask a more pointed question and it's not about your good faith. that is not my concern. My concern is whether or not among the billions of dollars you will be responsible for handing out in grants and loans, can you just assure us that not one dollar will go to benefit either the President-elect or his family?
CARSON: It will not be my intention to do anything to benefit any American. It's for all Americans, everything we do.
WARREN: I take that to mean you may manage programs that will significantly benefit the President-elect?
CARSON: You can take it to mean that that benefits... I will manage things in ways the American people will benefit. That is going to be the goal. If there happens to be an extraordinarily good program that is working for millions of people and it turns out that someone that you are targeting is going to gain $10 from that, am I going to say now, the rest of the Americans can't have it? I think logic and common sense probably would be the best way.
WARREN: We do have a problem here and I appreciate your good faith in this. The problem is that you can't assure us that HUD money, not of ten-dollar varieties, but million-dollar varieties, will not end up in the President-elect's pocket. And the reason you can't assure us of that is because the President-elect is hiding his family's business interests from you, from me, from the rest of America. and this just highlights the absurdity and the danger of the President-elect's refusal to put it back as any true blind trust. He knows, the President-elect knows, what will benefit him and his family financially. but the public doesn't, which means he can divert taxpayer money into his own pockets without anyone knowing about it. The only way that the American people can know that the President is working in their best interest and not in his own is if he divests, and puts his assets in a true blind trust. Transferring his holdings to his children does nothing, as the head of the nonpartisan Ethics Committee said just last night. Since the President-elect refuses to address this voluntarily, we need to pass the Presidential Conflicts of Interest Act that I introduced with more than 20 of my colleagues, which would require him to do so.

  13. Anonymous12:41 PM

After the President awarded him the medal, Biden gave an emotional speech that he started in true form: with a joke, ribbing his chief of staff Steve Ricchetti for misleading him to get him to the surprise event.

Elizabeth Warren Tears Apart Ben Carson And Exposes Trump Culture Of Corruption

...Sen. Warren wanted assurances from Carson that not a single taxpayer dollar that Carson will give out will financially benefit Trump or family.

Carson answered, “I can assure you that the things that I do are driven by a sense of morals and values, and therefore I will absolutely not play favorites for anyone.”

Warren said that her question wasn’t about Carson’s good faith, but whether or not a single HUD dollar will be used to benefit President-elect Trump or his family.

Dr. Carson refused to give a straight answer, “It will not be my intention to do anything to benefit any American. It’s for all Americans.”

Sen. Warren came back strong, “Do I take that to mean you may manage programs that will significantly benefit the president-elect?”

...The lack of a straight answer was an answer. The potential for corruption isn’t going to be limited to the White House. The executive branch is going to be an ATM for the wealthy and the special interests. Carson’s answers suggested that it would be fine with him if the Trump family made money off of HUD, as long as it fit his definition of “common sense.”

Sen. Warren is showing the American people what is coming. Ben Carson’s refusal to answer told every citizen all that they needed to know.

On Thursday morning, Americans across the country woke up to a nightmare. Not only did they discover that the Senate was making fast moves to gut the Affordable Care Act, but many of them would be facing life or death consequences thanks to the Republican Party’s agenda. As one woman said to Rep. Keith Ellison (D -MN) on Twitter, “As a breast cancer survivor, this is a death sentence for me.” She was far from alone in that fear.

Before Republicans knew it, people from across the country were using the hashtag #SaveTheACA to vent both their despair and desperation. Many of them are fully aware that once the ACA is taken away, they will die — and the GOP will be to blame.

Anderson Cooper socks it to lying Kellyanne ConArtist.Someone needs to remind her that trump is NOT the president:

Kellyanne Conway Asks: Where's Trump's Nobel Peace Prize?!

We know you hate Kellyanne Conway videos, but this one is good. Promise.
As you know by now, the Trump team and CNN are in a war right now over the reporting done this week about, well, let's just say it, golden showers-gate. The golden showers part of it has largely been debunked, but we still are pretty sure the Russians have something on our soon to be President. And that's the point and we at C&L will not get distracted by that.

We figure, with no evidence sure but who is responsible for that? (tax returns, hellooo!) -- that Putin and his mob buddies bailed Trump out of his fourth bankruptcy and that he'd better give them Crimea and fuggedabout the dead journalists who never actually happened or we might have to call your loan, Mister Trump.

    Prove us wrong, Kellyanne Conway!

CNN has been very careful, extremely careful, not to use the terms "Russian hookers," "golden showers," or "soiled mattress" in their coverage of the story. As far as they are concerned, the farthest they will go is to say there were two pieces of paper attached to a briefing that Trump may or may not have attended or been awake during. And there were unmentionable terms on those papers which were dumped by Buzzfeed but we won't link to Buzzfeed because integrity, dammit!

Which, by the way, Kellyanne Conway does not possess and has never had. Watch how she continually pretends that Buzzfeed and CNN are the same organization.

Three takeaways from the above clip:

    1. Kellyanne Conway wants Donald Trump to get a Nobel. Otherwise, Unfair!
CONWAY: I took a peek at what the headlines about President-elect Obama were eight years ago. Whew! Talk about the world's biggest disconnect. It was how 'should President-elect Obama go to Oslo now and pick up his Nobel Peace Prize or wait until after he's sworn in?' We get nothing like that. We get no respect or forbearance. This man is President of the United States!
Anderson Cooper points out all the birtherism that Trump promoted against Obama throughout both terms and all of a sudden Kellyanne doesn't want to talk about "the past." No really.

    2. Conway thinks journalists who didn't like Trump during the campaign should be fired now. Anderson Cooper gets what being a journalist actually is.

CONWAY: If a business doesn't do well some year, they usually clean house and get rid of the people who embarrass them....How are we going to move forward and have a relationship with news organizations if everything stays and looks the same?

COOPER: My job is not to have a great relationship with you. I like you personally. and I respect you and anybody who is in the public arena....but the job of the press is not to be buddy buddies and hang out socially.

    CONWAY: How about be fair?

COOPER: I agree. fair and accurate. (CROSSTALK) I've never wanted to hang out. ...I don't go to the White House Correspondent's Dinner. I went once, never again.. I don't want to hang out socially with these people. That's not my job.

    3. After the interview, Anderson Cooper simply proves with facts that Kellyanne Conway is, once again, a liar.

COOPER: Throughout the interview you heard Kelleyanne Conway repeatedly claim CNN linked the Buzzfeed story that the Trump team and others are taking exception with. The Buzzfeed story, which we have not reported the details on. You also heard me say repeatedly that is not true. About 20 minutes after that interview before we went on air, she, Kelleyanne Conway, tweeted this screenshot of our reporting and what she claims again is a link to Buzzfeed in that article. Just as a matter of the fact, as facts do matter, it is not a link to Buzzfeed.

“Propaganda minister”: Carl Bernstein slams Kellyanne Conway after she picks a fight with CNN, Anderson Cooper
Legendary investigative reporter Carl Bernstein christened Kellyanne Conway a “propaganda minister” on Wednesday following a heated interview of the former campaign manager by CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

A member of Donald Trump’s team went on a tear on Twitter on Wednesday after CNN broke news that intelligence chiefs had briefed the president-elect on allegations that Russia has compromising information on him. BuzzFeed’s subsequent document dump of a supposed memo shared in the briefing enabled Conway and other Trump advisers to conflate CNN’s independent reporting with the truly insane memo that hijacked the news cycle.

The journalists involved in CNN’s reporting pushed back at Conway’s misdirection. “She does it every day; she has been an anonymous source for the last 10 months particularly during this campaign when it suits her,” Bernstein said of Conway during a CNN panel.

“And it’s time to talk about what we do as journalists and what propaganda ministers do, and that is what she is, a propaganda minister,” he added.

Donald Trump just found out how it feels to be slandered by the powerful and he doesn’t like it.

After powering his way to the presidency with innuendo, slander, and lies, Trump was painted as a sexual pervert, corrupt businessman, and Russian pawn in an explosive dossier published by BuzzFeed.

None of the claims have been proven, as BuzzFeed noted at the time. Some, like a purported meeting between Trump’s attorney and the Russians, have been proven false since publication.

BuzzFeed was no doubt motivated to publish the dossier because it believed it was telling truth to power. But now Trump is using BuzzFeed’s decision to try to delegitimize the entire press as “fake news.” No one has done more to spread fake news than Trump, from promoting birther nonsense to retweeting false crime statistics to giving interviews to conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

Trump looks and acts guilty, compares America to Nazi Germany — and clings to Putin's leg like a drowning retriever

...The broader problem here is, of course, one we’ve been discussing for many months: Trump continues to prove himself to be totally incapable of behaving in a way befitting a president. Not only does his ascendency mark the death of being presidential, but his political incompetence makes us all vulnerable to unforced errors that could exponentially augment the roster of Trump-era disasters, with millions of lives hanging in the balance. If Trump is this incapable of conducting remedial damage control, how will he handle a much more complicated crisis — one that could include nuclear weapons, a terrorist attack or an economic calamity not unlike the Great Recession? Worse, if the reports are true and Russia possesses reams of incriminating blackmail material on Trump, how do we know that he and his party are acting in our best interest and not Putin’s?

Donald Trump in Resurfaced 2013 Interview: 'I Do Have a Relationship' With Vladimir Putin

Trump Says He Doesn’t Know Putin, But He Used to Say He Knew Him ‘Very Well’

    ● During the second presidential debate Sunday night, Donald Trump said “I don’t know Putin.”

    ● But a little over a year ago, he stood on another debate stage and said, “I got to know him very well.”

During the Republican primary last November, Trump said that he and Putin became close because they appeared on 60 Minutes together. He said:

But, as far as the Ukraine is concerned, and you could Syria — as far as Syria, I like — if Putin wants to go in, and I got to know him very well because we were both on 60 Minutes, we were stablemates, and we did very well that night.

This is not the first time Trump has tried to rewrite history about whether or not he knows Putin.

    ● “I have nothing to do with Russia,” Trump said in an interview with a CBS affiliate. “I never met Putin, nothing to do with Russia.”

But in 2013, MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts asked Trump,“Do you have a relationship with Vladimir Putin? A conversational relationship or anything that you feel you have sway or influence over his government?”

    ● Trump responded:
I do have a relationship and I can tell you that he’s very interested in what we’re doing here today He’s probably very interested in what you and I am saying today, and I’m sure he’s going to be seeing it in some form.

Trump and Fox were saying repeatedly that Hillary was to be indicted and it was "imminent." Fox had to do a retraction during that first week of Nov., but word had spread and they were not completely backing away and were just finding other ways to say what they wanted so as to damage her. And Trump, of course, never stopped. He said it over and over again.

This stuff makes my blood boil and makes me want him gone asap. I'll continue to wish for a heart attack, but in all honestly I would be fine turning on my TV and hearing that he was no more no matter how it happened. Trump is one hundred percent that much of POS.
