Thousands of scientists to take to the streets and march in the name of science.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Just hours after the Women's March on Washington ended on Saturday, scientists began to discuss organizing a march of their own. Now that idea has rapidly begun to take shape, with the official Facebook group gathering hundreds of thousands of online adherents in just the past day and the #ScienceMarch hashtag trending on Twitter.

Prospective attendees and organizers have been coordinating on a closed Facebook group with over 220,000 members, along with conversations happening on Twitter and Reddit. According to a post in the group from Jonathan Berman, a University of Texas Health Science Center postdoctoral fellow, the march had attracted multiple sponsorship offers and nearly 2,500 volunteers. And the initiative already has its T-shirts on sale.

"Our motivation is pretty straightforward," Dr. Caroline Weinberg, a science writer and public health researcher who is co-chairing the organizing group, said by email. "Scientists worldwide have been alarmed by the clear anti-science actions taken by the Trump administration. It has been less than a week and there have already been funding freezes and efforts to restrict scientists from communicating their findings (from tax-funded research!) with the public."

The date for the march has not yet been decided (Probably in the spring or summer.) however their certainly is no a lack of motivation.

In fact scientists with the EPA just recently learned this:

The Trump administration is requiring that political appointees review all Environmental Protection Agency studies and data prior to public release, according to a report from the Associated Press. The controversial new rules, which will also apply to information displayed on the EPA's website, have sparked outrage from scientists and journalists.

"We're taking a look at everything on a case-by-case basis, including the web page and whether climate stuff will be taken down," said Doug Ericksen, the communications director for the EPA transition team, in an interview with the AP. "Obviously with a new administration coming in, the transition time, we'll be taking a look at the web pages and the Facebook pages and everything else involved here at EPA."

And this is on top of the gag order already placed on the EPA.

Let's face it, how do we not expect an administration that disregards and even fears facts, to allow them to sway public opinion against their policy decisions?

Currently we are at war with people who are attacking our very sense of reality.

So we need scientists and educators now more than ever.

This is an appalling move by the Precedent Trump administration operatives.

To raise the consciousness of younger family members, on the evening of Trump's inauguration, I hosted a movie night (my choice first movie) and we viewed (with casual discussion) the 2006 movie 'Idiocracy.'

A mid-40s relative had never heard of the movie and found it hilarious. The 15 year was amused and stunned by the ignorance of the future (500 years).

Idiocracy is definitely worth a watch and/or a re-watch. Now.

Gee, I wonder how Humpty Trumpty, the L.I.C., will try to "spin" THIS? You just know that if "what's-her-face" tries to pull her usual crap she will be stupidly wrong - as usual. And then she'll have to face the very verbal backlash attacks from these people - world wide.

Poor baby. (HAHAHAHAHA) I wonder how long she will be able to stand the pressure of a growing backlash on EVERYTHING?

    Who's got the popcorn?

  3. It's disgraceful that they even have to do this, and now we have Mike Pence suggesting that women would try to get raped to have the 'time off' for an abortion exception.

"What if women would go out and get raped on purpose just so they could get off work?" - Mike Pence

On another note, making perfect sense(!) in light of current events, Honey Boo Boo might be returning to television:

Everyone should read the interview with Pence, since trump has stated he has no interest in the abortion issue since it doesn’t affect him, Pence will be calling the shots:

...“And as if that wasn’t enough,” Pence continued, “we’ve got this situation now throughout different states where some lawmakers allow abortion under some circumstances like rape or when the fetus is diagnosed with an illness, and others just flat out prohibit it. And that’s bad for a number of reasons.

First and foremost – we can’t have this kind of freedom of choice. This is bad, let’s be clear.”......

    =======================
And their area of expertise is what? Besides lying?

Good for them, it is also a good idea to spread these marches out, so donnie won’t be able to “enjoy the W. H”.

  9. April 15th has been suggested.

    I think it's a good one.

March is a little too soon.

Al Gore has revived the Climate Summit the CDC canceled.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/al-gore-climate-health-cdc_us_588a6a2be4b0303c0752b0bc?7pzxrmhigvz33di&

"Gore announced Thursday that he’ll hold the Climate & Health Meeting in Atlanta on Feb. 16 with Howard Frumkin, former director of the CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health, and a host of other health and climate groups: the American Public Health Association, The Climate Reality Project, Harvard Global Health Institute and the University of Washington Center for Health and the Global Environment."

"Sources inside federal agencies said this week that the Trump administration has started taking action to limit access to government climate change information. Sources inside the the Environmental Protection Agency say they’ve been instructed to stop sending out social media posts and press releases, that their grant program has been frozen and that the EPA’s main climate change web page may come down. "

The Women's March made the cover of TIME.

The scientists need to follow the success of the Women's March by making it ABOUT SCIENCE and not anti-Trump.

My son and about 8 of his friends are already planning on going whenever they decide to do it. They were all very excited about taking a stand. These are men between the ages of 23 and 28 :) I'm a very proud Momma!
