Army veterans return to Standing Rock to stand with Native Americans in their protest against the Dakota Access pipeline.

US veterans are returning to Standing Rock and pledging to shield indigenous activists from attacks by a militarized police force, another sign that the fight against the Dakota Access pipeline is far from over.

Army veterans from across the country have arrived in Cannon Ball, North Dakota, or are currently en route after the news that Donald Trump’s administration has allowed the oil corporation to finish drilling across the Missouri river.

The growing group of military veterans could make it harder for police and government officials to try to remove hundreds of activists who remain camped near the construction site and, some hope, could limit use of excessive force by law enforcement during demonstrations.

“We are prepared to put our bodies between Native elders and a privatized military force,” said Elizabeth Williams, a 34-year-old air force veteran, who arrived at Standing Rock with a group of vets late on Friday. “We’ve stood in the face of fire before. We feel a responsibility to use the skills we have.”

Well this is going to make it substantially difficult for the local police to bully these protesters and stomp on their civil rights.

It also presents a real challenge for the Trump administration.

After all how can they stand arm in arm with their corporate buddies when that might mean seeing military veterans dragged away in handcuffs because they were exercising their constitutional right to protest?

    Go vets!

      God, I love our vets.

Thank you American Veterans for standing with Native Americans.

Native Americans are more American than all of us.

  3. Anonymous4:54 AM

Yes, thank you Verterans. Take care!

  4. I am so proud of these Veterans and the Native American water protectors.

Trump is surrounded with bad news, complicated decisions, lawsuits galore, a mocked figure, bunkered down in his TV room -- how soon before a psychotic break-out ravages the W. H. and its staff?

A bad judge of character, a dumb bully who can't read or concentrate, disrespected by yuuge protests, defeated in court -- with people finally (in his long & cosseted life) telling him NO -- Gotta hurt.

"Don't they know I'm the fucking president?" he said.
Not so much, Donnie. You're over your head and pissed.
So, you gonna set your goons on all of us?

I read somewhere in all the articles about The Bad Hombre Wall that part of it will cross Reservation land, and that the Native people on that Reservation have not been contacted by anyone about grabbing their land. Pretty sure we have enough veterans willing to help them out, too.

    1. That's right. That tribe has refused each time to grant access for the building of a border fence. The only way that wall can be built across their land is to TAKE it from them through eminent domain. And because it is tribal land, Congress will have to approve the taking of it. It will be a HUGE STINK.

Trudeau is in DC today, trump said he was going to get a “better deal” on the pipeline, will he threaten Justin by hinting he would appoint sarah as CA ambassador?

    1. Let him threaten to shut down the pipeline if he doesn't get his "better deal." Then when he doesn't get that better deal, what is he going to do? Shut it down? Hardly. He owns stock in Energy Transfer Partners.

It would be lovely for Trudeau to refuse. Let Donny fail to get a "better deal." Of course, that's not what Donny will tweet. He'll make it all sound like he did great and the deal is better and it's all due to him being the greatest most fantastic president ever in the history of the universe. When in fact nothing happened and it's the same old shaft to the American people.

One of the worst types of abusers is people who don't understand WHY Levi Johnston is an abuser.

  11. Not enough of them. Last stand. This is it for DAPL protesters

  12. It is over.

The Army granted the permit and stopped the environmental study/report.

At least it happened without bloodshed. There was no way this wasn't going to happen under this administration.
