Oh shit! |
A New Jersey congressman says a rarely invoked 1924 law could be used to examine President Donald Trump's tax returns for possible conflicts of interest and Constitutional violations.
Rep. Bill Pascrell, a Democrat who serves on the Ways and Means Committee, has asked the committee’s chairman, Rep. Kevin Brady of Texas, to order the Treasury Department to provide tax returns to the committee. Brady's office did not respond to a request for comment Friday.
After privately examining returns — Pascrell is seeking 10 years' worth — the committee could decide to share them with the full House, which would in effect make them public. The 1924 law gives congressional committees that set tax policy the power to examine tax returns. It was used in 1974 when Congress looked at President Richard Nixon's returns, and in 2014 when the Ways and Means Committee released confidential tax information as part of its investigation into the Internal Revenue Service's handling of applications for nonprofit status.
You may remember that I brought this ability by Congress to get their hands on Trump's tax returns on Wednesday. At the time I could not understand why nobody was dong this.
Well now they are.
I have no idea how long Trump can restrain himself from attacking this guy on Twitter, since we all know that this is perhaps one of his greatest fears.
I am not at all sure what is in these tax returns (Though I can imagine,) but whatever it is Trump is clearly desperate to keep them away from public scrutiny.
Boy this will interesting.
ReplyDeleteA SD native, Brady was one of the engineers of TPP which Trump killed. Brady then praised Trump for being an aggressive president. He also has commented that people elected Trump without Trump's release of taxes so this may not go anywhere.
Surprise, surprise.
What a BS answer, too chicken? The president is not the average American especially with his love for all things russian.

US House tax committee will not seek Trump tax returns
A congressional tax oversight committee will not seek U.S. President Donald Trump’s tax returns, despite calls from Democrats for a review to determine possible business ties to foreign countries including Russia, the panel’s Republican chairman said on Monday.
“If Congress begins to use its powers to rummage around in the tax returns of the president, what prevents Congress from doing the same to average Americans?” House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady told reporters.
“Privacy and civil liberties are still important rights in this country, and (the) Ways and Means Committee is not going to start to weaken them.”............

That congressman is eighty and finally doing something great. I don't think he'll be intimidated. Go for it Sir.
ReplyDeleteIt is one more rope holding Trump down...they are adding up. Like an evil Gulliver on the beach, the townsfolk tie him up good. Every day is another day of resistance on many fronts.

White House staff hold secret midnight meeting to plot around Donald Trump
It sounds like the kind of scene one would only expect to encounter in a bad spy novel purchased at an airport gift shop and swiftly discarded once the flight is finished. But the frantic, chaotic, clandestine transgressions now leaking out of Donald Trump’s White House have reached the point where his flight may soon be finished — as staffers admit to major newspapers that they’re resorting to holding secret midnight meetings to plot around him and his remaining loyalists.

Russia-gate: Donald Trump has banned Michael Flynn from the White House
How can the White House have a National Security Advisor who’s been banned from the White House? That’s the current situation, in a sign of just how chaotically out of control Donald Trump and his administration are spiraling as the Russia scandal closes in on them. Although Trump has not yet fired Michael Flynn for getting caught illegally colluding with Russia, he has rather bizarrely banished Flynn from the White House going forward.

So "banished" is now the new-speak for "disappeared"? Flynn knows far too much for his own safety...
DeleteI don't think a GOP House will allow anyone to see Trump's tax returns. They'd rather not look because the conflicts will jump out all over the place. And the GOP is fine with whatever Trump does as long as they can go on destroying every good thing that has happened in this country in the last eighty years. Besides I don't think anything about the Russian connections would be found in the tax returns. They are deeply hidden below layers and layers of con artistry.
ReplyDeleteBeaglemom
Sadly, I have to agree with you Beaglemom. The GOP will do anything to prevent damaging information from leaking out. They're in control and they want to keep it that way. Plus, Trump is an idiot, but he is still cunning enough to cover his tracks. Any link to the Russians and other illegal transactions will not be obvious from the information contained in his tax returns. However, we may get confirmation that he is not as wealthy as he says from his declared income. That would take him down a peg. Nevertheless, it's worth a try because there must be something damaging inside since he's so afraid of showing them.
DeleteI also wanted to tell you Beaglemom that I always appreciate and like your comments.
I do not think Trump is cunning -- he is too narcissistic to think he could be anything less than above questioning, and the law -- thus his many, many mistakes in just a few weeks. He has no overall plan, is just winging it, reacting to insults primarily.
DeleteIf his tax people are smart, forensic tax accounts are just as smart.
You may well be right 9:20 AM. His belief that he is above the law and smarter than anyone else may lead to his downfall. However, there is a limit as to the amount of information that is immediately available in the tax return itself. That's why there are audits and further documents and investigations are often required. That being said, the tax returns are a good start to find out where to look when an item raises suspicion. It would be awesome if they can be obtained.
DeleteI think that the GOP feel they have to give him enough time to do enough damage to be able to get rid of him without losing their constituents who voted for him. They seem to feel that their future in politics is worth more than our future as a country.
